Captive Witness
This book is really good. Usually, I give 5 stars to Nancy Drew books, but I thought this book could've had more mystery in it. It was *very* suspenseful, though, and it had a good plot. But, honestly, it didn't interest me very much. I got bored with it after a while, because there wasn't much mystery. But read it anyways. You might like it!

a pretty good book
i liked this book because it was VERY suspenseful and full of surprises. usually i give 5 stars to most of the nancy drew books that i read, but this one probably just deserved 3 stars. the reason is because to me, it didn't have much mystery in it. i mean, it did have mystery, but honestly, i just don't think that it had enough. but, every person is different, so read the book if you want to and see for yourself how you like it!

I loved it!
Nancy is on a tour of Europe and discovers that their leader is on a secret mission to help 10 refugee children. This is more of a spy mystery but it was very good anyway.

Drug dealer wrote books
The writer who wrote this book was arrested today (12/21/2000), with the son fo former presidente of French, Francois Miterrand, by traffic of guns. He must be like the writer that like to "live the experiences" before write the book. Jail for him!

Suspense, adventure, and eye-opening !!!
This is the first book I ever read by Sulitzer (in its original french), and I now own all his novels. Trust me : they are all as good ! Using real events, he throws in a strong character, a great deal of adventure and suspense, world travel, and a little romance... In Cartel, for example, you learn about money laundering and you realize that (unfortunately) the Mafia is such a well-oiled organization that it will never be defeated...

extremely accurate look at drug billions laundering
The step by step life of a financial genius who gets involved in the drug money laundering on a worldwide scale. His passion for his gift will ruin his life. The step by step explainations of the wheeling and dealing, written to be easily understood by the neophyte is a great look at international finance and the weaknesses of a system we overtrust. All the books of this author are the best books I ever read.I am reading again for the 13th time, and I'll read it again,it has helped me a great deal in my personnal life.

Well done, but techniques are very sophisticated
The illustrations are excellent and this book is very well written, but the techniques are sophisticated. The painting, in particular, is done with oils rather than the more common acrylics. It makes a beautiful product, but is difficult for the casual amateur to accomplish. I only rate it lower because of the difficulty in replicating the painting.

Not for the novice, but well presented
I am on the finishing details of the featured santa project in this book, so I write from first-hand experience. This book describes (with both photos and captions) techniques to do highly detailed and stylized Santa carvings. You definitely need more than a benchknife and a v-tool to do these projects. Nevertheless, the progression of steps in the project is logically laid out, and if you have some carving experience under your belt, you'll do all right. One criticism I have is that most of the sequence photos on the project are in color. For me, color is actually distracting -- clear B&W photos reveal much more the sense of depth in a carving. There is a very good color gallery of other Santas, however, that should inspire. Painting technique is a bit complex, but yields distinctive results. One final thought...Bolinger's preface story about leaving his software executive job to carve full-time can be a strong temptation for a lot of us who like to work with wood!

A simple (but large) project with excellant painting tips
I would reccomend this book for someone looking to carve a larger european style Santa. The project detailed in the book is not diffiuclt, but it is time consuming due to its size. The painting techniques contained in this book are among the best I have found.

Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity: Saunders Interactive General Chemistry Cd-Rom Version 2.5 With Activchemistry
Published in Hardcover by International Thomson Publishing (November, 1998)
Authors: John Kotz and Paul Treichel
Amazon base price: $136.95

Ordinary...
Used Kotz/Treichel for Honors General Chem for Chemical and Environmental Engineers, Chemistry and Biochem majors here at U of Delaware. If you're taking any kind of honors/advanced general chemistry, don't waste your money- the book reads like a children's story. If, however, you're new to general chemistry, it provides a good foundation and is a pretty good place to start.

This CD-Rom textbook provides a mediocre sample of chemistry
I disliked this book. It unfortunately comprimises a good learning experience for advanced technology. I am probably a textbook person, and I enjoy hilighting. I did not get much from this CD-Rom

Amazing text and software package
I am delighted by the simplicity and the clarity of this package (text-CD). The CD includes many videos of actual lab experiments. The text and CD go out of their way to explain not just the what, but the why. I am the kind of person who requires a little back-ground on topics to fully grasp them. Meaningless facts are not for me. This book and CD provide everything that I need to learn and enjoy this exciting field. Emphasis on elemental/molecular models and physics of chemistry (which, in turn, has given me the confidence to tackle those physics books now). Thank you Kozt & Treichel :)

A great scource of inspiration, but.....
The complete book of chronomancers

For a long time I followed the role of time travel in Ad&d products. Of course it plays a major role in the Dragonlance setting and in other worlds have seen chronomancers sporadicly, but in my own campaign I found out that it was difficult to introduce time travel because once your players start to see time travel as a way of correcting their errors, your game balance goes right out the window. Weis and Hickman can fool around with their own world and even got to destroy the old Krynn, but my players won't accept that their favorite inn doesn't exist any more or that the Rashiman rule Thay now. The complete book of chronomancers gives you great options for campaign angles and for the price there really are some useful ideas in the book but my problem wasn't solved. I know that is something a DM has to solve with creativity but I was hoping for some support from the rulebooks. The best thing about the book is that the spells are so abstract that it gives you the oppurtunity to really mess with your players heads and make their brain muscle hurt. When confronted with the same NPC's but from different timezones it's bound to become chaos. The discription of the demi plane of time is usefull, because it restores the balance between the headache brain adventure and the adventure hack and slack problems. All in all I'm glad I bought this book in stead of just an other novel because if not for the players, it makes the game more interesting for the DM because suddenly you have a book filled with angels your players never expect. If you don't use those angles to often your players won't abuse this new development and enjoy it as well.

Innovative ideas powerful in the hands of the wise
Here's one of the most sought-after AD&D supplements ever created - this one gives you unparalleled new horizons for adventure, because it adds the most powerful element of magic ever devised - time travel! Unfortunately, this character class was considered to be so over-powered and disruptive that the supplement will never be reprinted. Which is a shame, because this amazing book will give you thousands of new adventures, and is the perfect way to expand a campaign. The 96-page book includes: chronomancer experience, kits, subclasses, the nature of time in AD&D, timestreams, paradoxes, changing history, proficiencies, the Protectors, chronomancer spells, rules for desigining worlds of science fantasy, and more. Spectacular stuff! If you have the ability to curb a powerful character with balancing flaws, making a more rounded and interesting individual, a full-fledged Chronomancer will open up infinite realms of adventure possibilities.

Interesting and inspiring concepts, but not flawless...
This book is structured more or less as the other AD&D Handbooks, but is divided into a Players and a DM section. It includes the Chronomancer class, some sub-classes and kits, spells, new equipment and new proficiencies; and everything is OK upto this point. Then comes an explanation on the Demiplane of Time, an abstract concept with quite a few inconsistencies and gaps which will have you rereading quite a few times. Overall, the book holds potential to expand your campaign in exciting new ways, it kept me awake many hours only considering the possibilities... if I get my DM to allow it, for it also has the potential to easily disrupt and/or unbalance a campaign.

Very disappointed
I purchased this book based on a preview chapter I found on the author's website. I very much enjoyed the style and tone of the first chapter and was eager for more. Unfortunately, the remainder of the book is nothing like the first chapter. If you purchase this book based on what you read in Chapter 1, you will be sadly disappointed. Personally, I expected more of a "soul journey".... considering the book is subtitled "Elvis' Soul Journey". This subtitling, and the style of the first chapter left me expecting more reflection from beyond the grave... expecting "Elvis" to look back on his life and the decisions, right and wrong, that shaped it. There is none of this.

I was also very disappointed in the ending, if you can call it an ending. The words and paragraphs just stop. I read the entire book, waiting for something to validate the time I spent reading it. I finished the last page, closed the book and threw it in the trashcan.

If you're looking for a "historical" account of Elvis' life before the Dorsey Brothers show, this book will deliver that (I assume, of course, that all claims that I've read regarding the accuracy of the author's research are true). If you're looking for a "Soul Journey", you'll probably be disappointed.

I do not recommend this book.

Clothed In Light by Paul Jaffe
I loved this book! I was blown away by the first chapter and it just kept on surprising me. I don't think I've ever read, or imagined, anything quite like this. It is profound on so many levels and, yet, fun to read. You know when you wake up from a dream and you've had some momentous spiritual insight, but you can't retrieve it? Clothed In Light is like having those back, and on paper.

Unique retelling by knowledgeable writer
Interesting concept, Elvis speaking to us as if looking back on his life from "beyond the grave." A fast-paced, well written and unique retelling of the story of Elvis' early years. Because the writer knows the Presley story inside and out, the book works. I thought it might be an "airy-fairy" new-age approach to Elvis, but it's not. The language is down to earth, colloquial, very Elvis-like.

Pictures are better than the text
I am planning to visit South Dakota this summer and since I manage to turn everything I do into an educational project I have been reading up and writing chambers of commerce for information. This book is written in the neutral public relations politically correct style of a guidebook. (Heaven forbid we ever say anything critical about the Indians or why we're still paying $1.5 billion a year for Indian health care.)In fact I believe the author has a PR background. He conveys a lot of information but he could have made the book much more interesting. For example, the story of the trapper Hugh Glass is one of the best stories ever. Glass was mauled by a grizzly and left for dead by his companions. He vowed revenge on those who left him and literally crawls back to civilization to kill the men who left him. However, the author here really does not get into the revenge theme. I had to get that from a Chamber publication. The pictures in the book are great and I would rate the pictures five stars. However, there just aren't that many books about South Dakota. So if you are going to South Dakota it probably is worth picking up. For an interesting book about the entire Great Plains which includes South Dakota read Great Plains by Ian Frazier, which is a five star book.

Better than I thought
At first , I didn't think this book was of much help in planning my trip but the more I read it, the more great information I found. I would advise you to read it like a novel and not just skim through it looking for specific information.

Interesting and informative
An ideal book for those intending to visit South Dakota. As well as giving places to visit and stay it provides an interesting insight into the history of the state. A few more photographs would be even better.

definitive!
a must have for the serious cruiser, a joy just to read as well.

Outstanding resource
A wonderful and entertaining resource book. It is filled not only with reference information for the cruising sailor, but geography, advice, local history and accounts of sailing (mis)adventures.

Well worth reading for anyone who loves the Northeast coastline - whether or not they have ever entered an unfamiliar harbor, short of food and fuel, just ahead of a storm.

THE book for clinical microbiology
If one is looking for a microbiology text that contains clinically relevant information, diagnostic approaches, and tests need to specify and diagnose an organism, then this is the one book that you need to get. Things like molecular basics in bacteria, viruses, etc are not extensively covered, but the text is clinically oriented. I would recommend this book highly to anyone in the medical/clinical field as well as to clinical pathologists.

Excellent diagnostic guide for the clinical microbiologist
The recent edition of the "Color Atlas" is the standard by which all other comparable works must be judged. The volume should be the standard reference for both laboratory personnel and clinical microbiology educators. Previous reviews to the contrary, charts and figures represent the current state of the art in microbiologic taxonomy and identification methodology. The book is highly recommended for both professional microbiologists and for the interested layperson with a background in biology, chemistry and pathology.

This guy expects a little too much from the working world.
A chapter-by-chapter adventure into situations where "someone" didn't bend over backwards to keep this guy as a customer. In all honesty, I'm not certain I would want him in my place of business. In fact, I'm not certain his errogance would fit through the door.

Great book for understanding customers.
This book gives plenty of ideas for those who support customers. It also points out the systems and processes needed to support customers well.

My Company's Bible!
I opened a small Non-Alchohalic Gentlemen's Club in the competitive Chicago market 3 years ago on a shoe string budget. Never had been in the club business before, but knew what I liked and didn't like when I was a customer....and I had this book. Applying it's principals over and over again I have become one of the best success stories in recent years in adult entertainment. Out of over 2500+ Gent Clubs in America I am rated 35th, and am the only one in the Chicago market in the top 40. I even named my corporation Ichibahn, Inc., because I want to be the best. Principals brought across in this book are the same for any business, and they are easy to understand. I can not say enough about CFL. I am now considering going into the "handyman" business, and these same lesson I know will make me a great success in that field too. Easy reading for a plane flight, and I promised your head will be spinning when you land. Joe
