One of the Best source of information on the uniforms.
Calvary, Artillery, Infantry, Special Units like the Army of Africa, Lancers, General Staff this only some of the Uniforms you would see in this great work from the French artist Charles Vernier. Each plate have a comentary by Paul Willing(Conservateur of the French Army Museun)which gave us a little introduction about the Units. In every Plate you see the evolution of the Uniforms like the Famous Hussards that their custome of the time of King XIV have a lot of changes between the First Empire and the Restauration.

The good thing about this book is that there is not other title that have all the Units uniforms together(specialy in Color) with their anciet regiment to their Restauration uniforms and not like other Uniforms Plates this set is complete, fully illustrated throughout. Not only The Napoleonic epic is portray in this great book, Fontenoy, the heroes of Valmy, The army of Africa and the Restauration all this uniforms in 60 beatiful plates from C. Vernier 1831-1887.

The price of this book is high but it worths the money for any Historian, Enthusiast or Fan of the French Army History which influnce all Europe from the XVII to the XIX century, at last We have a great reference resource for military history, lets hope that in the future we can see more books on this matter.

Excellent companion or stand alone source.
This encylopedia is an exhaustive work on an historical turning point that is overshadowed by the Second World War. This work contains biographical sketches of key participants, detailed explanations of significant battle units and troop manuevers, background on significant weaponry, and details on contemporary popular culture. I find myself reaching for it to read by itself as much as I do for looking up a reference found in another book. Americans who participated in WWI were always ashamed of the carnage and the lack of a clear resolution which ultimately led to WWII. Thankfully, this book allows us to appreciate the lost generation's bravery and ability to deal with the slaughter and destruction. This volume has done much to bring my grandfather's war into the same clear focus I've always viewed my father's war. Each entry contains a bibliography.

This is a big book.
I never really had to draw artistically, but I spent years drafting mechanical objects, carefully placing straight lines in proportionally accurate positions. Having a book like this is much less embarrassing than signing up for a drawing class and having personal responsibility for drawings which don't look good, for whatever reason. The ability to draw is a major basis for art, as far as I am concerned, and a lot of the mechanics are obvious once a technique is successfully demonstrated. Anything you see in this book can be believed, and possibly even understood, artistically. This book also provides a short history in art, mainly about one person in Paris from 1906 to 1913, who had a friend who told him "Don't throw anything away." (Page 9 explains how "Paul Alexandre begged his friend not to destroy a single sketchbook, a single study.") There are, in addition to hundreds of drawings, some oil paintings reproduced in this book. On page 88 is one which was bought by the author's father because the person who commissioned The Amazon, 1909, rejected it (she might have thought that the eyes were too large; "The Baroness did not like her portrait very much and recognized herself in it still less when Modigliani decided at the last moment that he had to repaint her red jacket in yellow." p. 89), so it was purchased by Paul Alexandre.

First, I am impressed that black and white photographs from that era can be reproduced so large and well. The people (see pages 14, 18, 20, 33, 45, 49, 51, 72, 79, 107) and places in Paris (pages 22, 36, 68, 70, 71, 81), postcards from Livorno, Modigliani's native town (pp. 108-9) and even a book by Nietzsche, Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra on page 63, fill these pages nicely. The manuscript notes reproduced on some pages are usually in French. Part of one is translated as "Equilibrium by means of opposite extremes." (p. 92). Earlier it was mentioned that Modigliani was not the type of person who kept track of things in a journal, so "these brief lines are particularly precious to us, even if, in the absence of any other documentation, we are unable to understand their full meaning." (pp. 92-93).

Secondly, there are explanations of the elements of Modigliani's sculptures and pictures. One feature which he drew a number of times, caryatids, are defined at the beginning of a section discussing those drawings. "Another setting which is theatrical in character is created by the architectural use of caryatids in place of pilasters or columns to support the entablature of a building." (p. 189) There are foldout pages of the drawings which follow, so that, after seeing the figures on page 193, and turning to page 194, the next page which is visible is page 199, which lists the contents of pages 195-198, which are hidden until 194 and 199 are folded out to reveal the four pictures inside side by side. This might be set up this way because plate 108 shows a Hermaphrodite caryatid, frontal view, which was supposed to be hidden from anyone who didn't know where to look for it. The other ones might have been hidden because they were smiling, or too luscious, and placed there as a special reward for those who happened to be reading the book slowly enough to discover them.

Thirdly, the next section, Sculptural heads, starting on page 237, doesn't have much to say, but the comparison of the drawings of Head in left profile runs from pages 255 to 263, without numbers on some pages. Plate 194, Head in left profile with earring; Blue crayon heightened with red gouache, is large and colorful. In the later sections of the book, there is a study with blue ink on page 368, and my favorite color in the book is the blue ink on pages 389, 390, and 392. This is, again, a series with pages that fold out, and the comparison with other pictures makes the blue particularly splendiferous. This book has 463 pages, and you need to read slowly enough to find them all.

Sachdev is a pioneer in adoption research. His book is refreshing because he is one of the first social scientists who does NOT ignore the life-givers in adoption. I hope this book is on many library shelves across the country.

The best book I've read in years!
This is a book that needs to be on the bestseller's list across the country. I am amazed how difficult it was to locate the book. I wonder why it is not being publicized everywhere. This book offers the best advice and plan for personal change I've ever read. I encourage everyone to get at least two copies to read and give to someone they know.

great book for amateurs
This book is thorough. It is well written, easy to follow, and loaded with information. Unfortunately, all you see here is an abbreviated table of contents which is 8.5 pages in the actual book. I feel that when I finish reading it, I will have a good fundamental base of knowledge to invest in stocks, whether it is a bull or a bear market or anything in between. Because of the amount of information here, it is a real confidence building book, for me who likes have some idea of what I'm doing before I do it. It is the best book I've found so far on investing in stocks.

A view of life from an OCD child's perspective
"Up and Down the Worry Hill" is a children's book about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In the book we see the world through the eyes of Casey, a child with OCD. It effectively illustrates the internal dialogue and struggles of Casey and the difficulties such children face. For a child with OCD it teaches them that they are not alone and someone understands them. The end of the story helps the child to understand what will happen if they seek treatment via a child therapist and the use of behavior therapy. The book effectively illustrates that the problem is not something wrong with the child, but is something that just happens sometimes to some people. It is a highly recommended text for anyone with a child with OCD or to help children with a friend with OCD to understand their self better.

An EXTREMELY Helpful Book
I took the SAT in both 7th and 8th grade as part of a special academic program, I took practice tests both years, read the book both years and improved my score (over the practice) more than 100 points. This book has everything from how to fill in the answer bubbles quickest to how to solve specific math problems to what you should do the night before the test. There is humor in the book, some of it very funny, much of it only so-so (I can forgive them for that). Buy this book well in advance, because it takes a while to read; also, they have SAT-type words you should know, that they tell you how to remember - I didn't start reading far enough in advance to even attempt to learn them, but the book helped anyway. A must for anyone who wants to improve their score, be it from a 900 to a 1000, or a 1500 to a 1600.

Upland Issues in one easy understandable book
I found that it covered many of the major British Upland issues in great detail. It managed not to get bogged down in great reams of scientific facts, but based the information on upto date ecological reasearch. As an upland ecologist it supported many of my present knowledge and expanded the areas that are my poorer areas. If you work in the uplands of Britain well worth a read
