This is a good book for everybody. Through this book, I'm becoming a modern manager step by step. this is the manager's age, if we don't realize this, we could be forgiven by this world.

A Useful Book About the Change in Training & Development

A very good collection of 23 readings on organisational learning and change. I would recommend to Human Resources executives to read some of the articles. It will certainly help in understanding behaviour and attitudes on training and learning in the workplace. Reflecting on the contents will enable you to pick ideas for policies and procedures you may be changing in your organisation. Though intended as a text for those doing post graduate programmes in people management, the readings addresses the changing paradigm in organisational learning, training and development. A worthy addition to any corporate library.

Exceptional text for police officers and all managers

This is an exceptional text for police officers as well as other managers in the public sector who aspire to "leadership" positions. Not only does the book cover practical police management issues, it provides unique perspectives on a series of management and leadership issues. As a budget and finance instructor, I was initially interested in the administrative/budget portions of the book; however, I found that the entire book was exceptional.

A thorough, thoughtful social history.

Escott has written a well-research, scholarly study of how ordinary people in North Carolina, white and black, interacted with the political and social institutions of the day. This is an important social history worth the time of anyone interested in Southern history after the Civil War. Escott focuses in particular on five counties but his study is more broad-based than this indictes. He uses statistics but the human story predominates.

Excellent Portrayal of Rural Life

Hildebrand's book is some of the best literary nonfiction I've read. His characters are well-developed. Because of that, the reader is drawn into the farm and, ultimately, its plight. This book does an excellent job of depicting rural life. It's very true to life (which is good, since it's nonfiction). EXCELLENT BOOK, highly recommended.

A Collector's Delight

I can recommmend this book in three ways-as a coffee table book, as a map collector's reference book, and as a history book. As a book out on your living room table, visitors will be sure to pick it up and review it. As a collector's reference it is wonderful. A good overview of various maps, some one of a kind, with a great writeup on each map and mapmaker. It may become a "reference" book, whereby the maps shown are more desirable to collectors simply because they are listed in "Cohen". Finaly, it is a great history book dealing with the exploration of America westward. Highly recommend to anyone interested in maps and mapping, or in American history.
