ANOTHER TOP-NOTCH BOOK!
I recently purchased this book for my daughter, also a mother, for her 30th birthday. The book, like all the other "Chicken Soup" books, is filled with writings that will make you smile, bring a tear to your eye, and cause you to reflect upon your own childhood memories of what you either had or perhaps, for whatever reason, did not have in a mother. If you are a mother, yourself, you will relate to the overwhelming love you feel for your children. You will realize how precious and wonderful they are and always will be throughout all the years to come. The book will make you want to hug them... just one more time while they are still yours to hold.

There is something contained in this book for everyone, and written in the typical fashion of pervious books of this nature, each page is a joy to read and incredibly inspiring and heart-warming. For those who have daughters who are also mothers, this book will rekindle that special bond that, every now and then, one takes for granted once they "take wings and leave the nest" to conquer the world on their own. The book speaks of silent thoughts we often neglect to put into words to the children we love so very much. It is a beautiful book!

Wonderful
Another wonderful chicken soup book!!! Full of beautiful heart warming stories and quotes. I enjoyed this book as much as any other of the Chicken Soup books (which is quite a bit). I love the sad, happy, joyful and beautiful stories. Is this book only for mothers though? The answer is definitely no! Dads, grandmas, grandpas, sisters, brothers, anyone whose ever raised and cared for a life younger than them should read this book.

Great "feel good" Book
Easy to read, hard to put down. Thats the best way to explain this book. I recommend it for people of all faiths. The stories are both touching and funny. Well written and includes short stories from well known authors like Fulghum and Buscaglia.

The Best Chicken Soup book since the Pet Lover's Edition!
More than enough great stories to warm my heart for the holidays ahead. Loved the story about the Cat named Christmas. That one little story is worth buying the whole book!!

Child at War: The True Story of a Young Belgian Resistance Fighter
Published in Hardcover by Mercury House (May, 1991)

Gripping story of young girl in Resistance in 2WW
Outstanding account of how a young 13-year old Belgian girl decided to fight the German occupation of her country. She had no training, no background but committed herself to fight the evil Nazi menace in the only way she knew how, helping her brother who was an "eminence grise" of the shadowy and dangerous resistance community. These courageous acts brought arrest, torture and she was sent to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, north of Berlin. Mark Bles has done a fantastic job of research, bringing to life this fanatastic true life account.

Best book ever
Comming from someone who has read extensively on resistance movements during WWII this is by far the best account. It is inspiring as well as informative. The text comes alive, and the reader is transported to war torn Belgium. Someday this book will be recognized by scholars as the difinitive account of the Belgian Resistance.

Reads like a history novel.
The remarkable thing about Children of Apollo is how it read like a history novel, even though most of the events depicted as having "happened" in the early 1970s never in fact occured. These "events" include a Korea style resolution to the Vietnam conflict, no Watergate scandal, and most fascinating to me a series of Apollo missions to the Moon which in real life were either cancelled or never even considered. The story of Apollo 23, which occupies the latter third of the book, is especially gripping.

A great alternate history story of space exploration.
Children of Apollo is a story of high adventure and low intrigue. Its premise is very simple. What if, instead of truncating the Apollo Program in the early 1970s, President Nixon had continued it? What if the promise of Apollo, which included space stations, lunar bases, and expeditions to the planets, had been fullfilled? That's the background to the story of Children of Apollo. The story is inhabited by full blooded people, some of whom dream of exploring the stars, some of whom would stop those dreams by any means necessary. From political intrigue and heart stopping espionoge, to the excitement of space missions which never were, the story holds one's attention like a vise. Step by step, Children of Apollo hurtles to an awesome climax at the Lunar South Pole, where the fate of the crew of Apollo 23, the furture of space exploration, and the world hang in the balance.

A fantastic book for any business student
I'm a Vietnamese international student in Boston-USA, I have been haunted by the quest of knowing more of the impacts on the southeast asia region once China entered the WTO. I hoped to predict what would happen in Vietnam once it enters the WTO because VN is likely to follow China's track and how she would deal with it. And this book says it all, it helps me so much in looking for the near future of VN, and what sector of VN needs to be fortified to be ready for the economic fight in the globalization process.

This is a well-written book with illustrations and proofs of points. The authors are well-respected in the economics community, as one of them will be the WTO Director General in Sep, 2002, and the other is the Regional Editor for BusinessWeek.

The economic impact of China accession is so profound that the book shouldn't be overlooked. This book will help you see the conflicting aspects of state-owned and private-held enterprises in China and the prospect of continuing administrative and economic reforms through the binding of WTO trade laws.

I gave the book 5 stars because it deserves to be the best.

An Exellent Report on China and the WTO.
In December 2001, China agreed to join the World Trade Organization. According to projections, economic reforms undertaken since 1978 will help China to increase its GDP to $2.2 trillion by 2010, standing behind the United States, Japan and Germany. This progress raises many serious questions for its internal transformation and her role in the global economy.
The book considers carefully the economic, social and political consequences of this event. The phenomenal success of recent economic growth is attributed to high savings rates, protective laws and strong and effective government policies. However, the great challenges facing China to become a truly modern state are institutional reforms for sustained economic growth.
Based on the World Bank's projections, China would become the world's second largest economy in 2020 with 8% of global output, trailing the United States with a 19% share. If this happens, China's skilled workers would also see the world's highest wage gains, nearly a double increase! Consequently, the great challenge China's government and the World Trade Organization will face is to make sure that all levels of society receive a fair share of its economic growth.
Supachai Panitchpakdi and Mark Clifford correctly believe that globalization and trade promoted by the WTO for all nations, many of which are small, are equally important for China as well. Numerous studies indicate that there is a strong correlation between free trade and growth. Finally, it should be recognized, that China's entry into the WTO will dramatically raise the stakes for its Asian neighbors and rivals. It would attract more foreign investment followed by a higher sustained rate of growth and in turn would increase international trade and development and help other countries to develop their economies as well.

chinese village, socialist state
This volume makes important contributions to our understanding of the Chinese revolution. . . . The entrenchment of networks of loyalty among local leaders and higher level officials of the emerging party-state is a central element of the authors' analysis. As the state extended its control over both the urban and rural economies, it increasingly monopolized the allocation of scarce resources. . . . Given the authors' trenchant critique of the Communist party's economically irrational commitment to rapid, large-scale collectivization, it is unfortunate that they have not addressed the implications of their work for the decollectivizing rural reforms of the post-Mao era, when many aspects of the peasant household economy have been restored. Perhaps there is a sequel in the making

Insightful and informative
It has been two years since I read this book, but I see it hasn't had a review yet, and I think it deserves one, so I add my two bits.

A very detailed analysis of the developments in rural Chinese society over a period of massive upheaval. Provides tremendous insight into the social mechanisms at play, and the interplay of contemporary political movements with the traditional power structures in rural China. For anyone interested in or involved in rural development in China, a drama which is still going on in the 21st century, a must read. Also recommended for anyone interested in the interactions between policy-directed, centrally planned development and the way society responds to it.

Would like to see a similar follow up on the years between the cultural revolution and the present.

A totally delightful, wonderfully entertaining pictuebook.
Mark James' delightful picturebook Christopher's Little Airplane is the engaging story of a little boy who is given a balsa wood airplane for Christmas. But the little toy airplane gets left outside and soon finds himself flying over the countryside on a winter's night and seeing the world from high up in the air. Missing Christopher, and through a combination of luck and fancy flying is ultimately able to be reunited with his young owner. Mark James enduring story of friendship and loyalty is wonderfully enhanced on every page with the color and artistry of Harold Smelcer's illustrations. Christopher's Little Airplane is easily recommended for children ages 4 to 8, and would grace any school or library children's picturebook collection.

Christopher's Little Airplane
"Christopher's Little Airplane" is a charming child's tale about a little boy's toy airplane that takes flight on its own adventure in aviation. The story is cute and the illustrations are beautiful, filled with stunning perspectives, rich colors and deep shadows. A keeper.
