Praise must go therefore to David Leigh for the subject of his biography: Howard Marks; an international drug runner, who naturally, due to the nature of his business does everything he can NOT to become a household name. Leigh follows Marks' career in the drug trade from its very beginning, in the 70s, through to its present day conclusion. Writing with a clarity of prose and an intensity of purpose that creates a breath-taking pace and begs not to be put down. Leaving questions of morality up to the individual reader Leigh shows Marks as human, intelligent, fallable, but most of all likeable. A man with whom you could comfortably have a drink.
Leigh didn't have to work hard to make a story out of his chosen subject material: it is a compelling story by its self. But he did need to steer his research and keep it capped. (He has to cover nearly 30 years worth of material, with each drug run having fascinating complications and intricate requirements) And for this too, congratulations are due. He handles the subject well, informing the reader without preaching; the end result being a thoroughly good biography.

I found this book to be insightful to help a person to fully understand his or her Christian journey. This book would be helpful to a Christian seeking a closer walk with the Lord. A new members class of a church would find this book helpful to introduce the newly "saved" to building a relationship with Jesus.

Ramsay (1851-1939) was well-equipped to delve into this area by virtue of his extensive knowledge of the history of Asia Minor, to which he devoted his archeological career. Though the present work is now a century old, it has never been superseded as a source of background information essential to seeing the epistle in historical context.
Ramsay's most noteworthy contribution was to make a powerful case for the view that the "Galatians" whom Paul exhorted were inhabitants of the cities of Phrygia and Lycaonia (in South Central Anatolia) that he had proselytized during his first missionary journey... Ramsay's "South Galatian" hypothesis has remained a minority opinion, though a review of mainstream commentaries suggests that the "North Galatian" alternative rests largely on prejudice... particular, it is not easy to fit a Pauline visit to North Galatia into the narrative of Acts, and many modernist commentators, convinced that Acts is of little historical value, seem to see that as a point against Ramsay... Ramsay is normally a clear writer, but this particular book suffers from the fact that injuries sustained in an accident prevented him from making final revisions to the manuscript. As a result, the discussion is in places disjointed. Also, the reader will need to refer frequently to the text of Acts in order to grasp the argument fully.
This commentary is not, in short, for casual reading, nor will it profit those whose interest lies solely in the doctrine of Galatians rather than its place in history. But for those who study it with care, it will offer abundant fruit. END

Many art and architecture books are just recitations of dry facts, dates and theories, with no historical or sociological context. Not so Gelernter's "A History of American Architecture."
The correlation of buildings with their context, and the inclusion of early Native American architecture, make this a thought provoking introduction to the history of architecture in America.

I recommend this book.
It has a lot of exercises and many useful day-to-day expressions that you can use in everyday life.
The layout of the book uses a very hands-on approach because all the exercises deal with examples that we can relate to.
I look forward to buy the next book in the series.
The only reason for the 4-star rating is because the cover and paper the text is written on is not of very good quality, that is, it looks and feels like a pulp magazine !!!
