Good, but not deep; doesn't always flow through concepts
I'm new to inline skating and I'm looking for a book to get me started. My experience with ice skating and skiing is helping me. I'm looking for a book to, "take me to the next level."

This is a good book, but it isn't that.

There are some good pictures that show how to do certain maneuvers in time lapse. That helps. However, sometimes illustrations rather than pictures are the most effective means to get a concept across to the reader.

The written descriptions on how to do certain things, such as a Y-stop, are good, but not always thorough enough. It would help if the author would build up to certain tasks.

For example, the author might teach certain points about turning, which could then be used to form the foundation of a Y-stop.

Learning is about developing a foundation and building on that foundation. Too much in this book was independent of everything else I need to learn. I just didn't come away feeling that I had moved to the next level because of this book.

Don't get me wrong, I learned quite a bit. However, this book wasn't as thorough as I had hoped.

Good book for beginner skaters
If you are enthusiastic about inline skating, you probably want to read everything about it you can get your hands on. I have read 3 or 4 books so far. I have learned at least something good-to-know from each one -- this one included. It's cheap enough -- order it and read it!

Inconclusive
If this book weren't the last of the excellent "Way of the Tiger" ninja series, it would deserve 4 or 5 stars. Unfortunately, "Inferno!" seems to have been the final book of the series. The problem stems from the fact that the book's "ending" is not really an ending. The hero's main quest remains unfulfilled at the end, robbing the story, and the entire series for that matter, of a satisfying conclusion.

well, it actually does come to a conclusion...
I just wanted to make the comment that it DOES come to a conclusion of sorts, just not the one one would expect. Basically, the character takes on an impossible mission--going into the Rift, and pays the consequences, so basically any decision you make, you will end up dead (even at the end, apparantly, as you are trapped and about to die). I read this book years and years ago, and was trying to find out if they ever continued the series (the black widow could spontaneously croak or something, or the hero could make a miraculous escape, or even better, the series could continue, except 30yrs in the future, with avenger's son reclaiming the throne and fighting evil, or something like that). Overall its a good book, although not quite as good as some of the other superb books in the series. I was definitely disappointed to see this series come to an end.

It would be great if someone turned this series into a video game...

Internet Legal Forms for Business

Warning to IP's
Although the contracts and forms provided in this book are fairly comprehensive and can give you a good idea of what is involved in putting together contracts, most of them have been drafted to address the needs and concerns of the person hiring a developer. If you are independant web developer looking for a site development contract template - look elsewhere - this contract is extemely client-biased and would take a lot of time and/or a lawyer to re-work it.

Helpful but flawed
This book is very helpful- use the forms only as a base though. The author apparently has NEVER heard of proofreading a contract. I have found numerous mistakes in many of the forms which could pose potential legal problems. Of serious note is the misnumbering of paragraphs and sections, some of which are referred to later in the form. If you do not carefully edit these forms you might end up with a worthless -worse yet, damaging, legal document.

Very extensive, but contact information may be incorrect.
This book offers a great variety of information on internships both in the U.S. and abroad. It also profiles former interns now turned famous. However, I have not been able to make much use of it yet. I tried calling one of the internship contact numbers listed to find out I was phoning a private residence; I tried e-mailing another contact and it too was incorrect. It seems the folks at Princeton Review have not put much effort into updating their information yearly. So, use it for the information, but beware that you may have to do research on your own to find actual updated information on the internships.

Pretty Comprehensive
It is a rather comprehensive reference on current internships. I even wrote a column for my school's student newspaper on "fun" internships using this book. It'll save you time and money if you're looking for a suitable internship. I used it extensively last summer even though I ended up finding my internship on the internet.

hard to understand
the authors are all around when they write this book. hard to understand explanations and few examples. i would recoment my professor another book but we started with this one. :(

THE BEST
This is a great textbook for undergraduate econometrics (some graduate students would also benefit from some chapters, like the one on Instrumental Variables, or Program Evaluation, or the chapters on Time Series & Forecasting). No wonder Mark Watson is one of the authors, since he is one of the best teachers I ever had. The book is clear, and it skips a lot of useless, obsolete stuff that most undergraduates have typically to go over just because everyone else has gone over it before. No time wasted with homoskedasticity, "fixed" regressors, Durbin-Watson. Everything is based on large-sample theory, the regressors are never assumed to be "nonstochastic", and homoskedasticity is treated as an exception (which is what happens in practice), not as a rule. There are nice, long empirical applications in each chapter, and some examples are dealt with in more chapters, so that you can see how new concepts are applied to the same problem, and how our understanding of the problem changes and improves with more refined tools. For more advanced students, mathematical appendixes (and a few chapters at the end) also provide reasonably accessible but relatively complex proofs. A great book.

Is It a Sin for a Christian to be a Registered Democrat Voter in America Today?

Expecting "no" got "yes" - check common sense at the door
I bought this book (pamphlet) with the catchy title in an effort to expand my point of view. I'm on the lookout for a moral and political Switzerland for my view that abortion, while aberrant, is not a decision government should dictate. This pamphlet dims my hope of ever finding any moderation in the abortion debate.

I found the thesis a stretch and the supporting evidence based more on rhetoric than scripture. In this book, as with discussions you've likely had with others about abortion, there is no room for any other reasonable conclusion other than the one the author proposes.

If this pamphlet is right, hell's gonna be pretty darn full with the rotting carcasses of the several million registered Dems in the nation.

Our founding fathers cherished Providence, and although they had more pressing issues to worry about in their time I speculate that most would favor a more constructive political and religious outlook than the line this book takes saying basically "go to hell".

Thank God for pluralism -- and freedom of religion for that matter! I might not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I strongly recommend this book
Under a catchy book-title, Mark has written a thought provoking piece that gives real insight into the impact of one's choice of party affiliation. Mark's concept of "voting every day" is something that every Pro-lifer should be aware of, but one that I believe very few currently understand. I know I didn't until I read Mark's book. I strongly recommend this book, not only to all Pro-life Democrats, but to all Pro-life Republicans and to all voters who have not yet affiliated with a political party. This book is direct and to the point, non-judgmental, but very thought provoking. It can be read in one sitting, and I recommend it enthusiastically. Joseph M. Scheidler, Exec. Dir.; Pro-Life Action League, Chicago, Illinois.

Written from an anti-Catholic perspective
When I was young I used to get Luther and Lucifer confused since the two names were generally spoken in the same tone of voice in the highly Catholic neighborhood where I grew up. I get the sense that Barthes, a German Lutheran, has much the same attitude towards Catholics despite a promising forward. A subtle anti-Catholic prejudice (fueled by a corresponding anti-Lutheran prejudice on the part of his Catholic neighbors) pervades the book which is a largely negative view of the Jesuit order although not quite at the paranoid fantasy level of a Jack Chick publication.

A history of society of the smartest and ablest
Fascinating and intriguing, extremely well written history of one of the most successful, enduring and influencing societies of medieval ages. It looks sometimes like a collection of anecdotes, but may be it is a single way to put a history in a form a normal person can actually understand and learn from.
It is all here - treachery and faith, arrogance and humility, desperate quench for knowledge and blunt obedience. A history of a society which did it best to find, train and give a reason to live for the smartest, ablest and the most initiative people of its time.
A must read for any person, already employed or looking for employment in a consulting industry, especially in a top tier management consultancy (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.).

Lots of Countries, Little Information
I have been a faithful consumer of Lonely Planet products for the last five years. However, this collection does little more than offer superficial information on every country in Central Europe. If you want to go anywhere besides the capitals and most well-known tourist "traps", forget it. I was particularly dissapointed with the book's treatment of Germany and Switzerland. Very vague, very minimal. If you want to visit any of the countries in Central Europe, buy the Lonely Planet Guide to that country or look for a different publisher. Sorry guys, this one doesn't go in my travel bag.

the fantastic planet
This book is fantastic. I was amazed at how thorough a book could be. These authors also have a great sense of humor. Lonely is an oxymoron. This book is very comforting. I highly recommend this book.

Maldives-The lost paradise
It was a good book about an overview of Maldives but did not focus much on the interior travel within Maldives and getting around its myriad of islands

A good place to start...
There are four main tour books for the Maldives, and this one is a good place to start. (Another good one is the Michelin guide.) This book gives a general overview of the islands and many of the resorts. Divers will want the Divers' Guide to the Maldives to fill out the information here.

Rambling, Poorly written.
It's true that managed care is on trial--literally and figuratively. But this rambling, disjointed, and wholly incoherent book offers little to justify its publication. Do not take my word for it. Go to the library and pick it up. Open it and read ... you will be shocked that it is for sale at any price.

Captivating, Empowering, Pulls no punches!
This book unpacks many of the hidden agendas in managed care and provides useful and practical advice to the reader on how to better understand and navigate the turbulent waters of managed care. This book is written by a well-known health systems advisor and leader, keynote speaker and expert witness with over 20 years experience in the field coupled with a dynamic foreward and introduction by Mark Hiepler often called the "Rainmaker" or "89 million dollar man" because of his record breaking 89.3 million dollar jury verdict against a large managed care. organization and involved in over 150 cases representing patients and physicians in diverse managed care scenarios. Learn the intricacies of why you have such difficulty getting a referral, how to challenge a denial of care determination, and even how to find the right attorney, if needed. Managed Care on Trial also explains how financial incentives can induce your physician to delay or undertreat and what you can do in such circumstances, Discussion of the key elements of the 1200 legislative and regulatory initiativies to tame managed care last year are highlighted, including helpful guidance and cutting edge information to assist you. State of the art information has been collected from such organizations as the AMA, prominent national trial attorneys and key figures in American Health Care. The book has been reviewed by national figures who say that the "insightful and incisive analyses of emerging controversies and challenges in mananged care are unparalled and offered in a refreshing and captivating style which transforms complicated issues into useful information for the consumer" Jeanne Boling MSN, CCRN,CDMS, CCM Exec Director Case Management Society of America. Another reviewer indicates that "not only does the book deliciously entertain but also offers uselful tactics as well. The book is not only informative but is enjoyable as a courtroom thriller. Indeed in his final chapter Dr. Robbins puts ! managed care on trial brilliantly and provocatively"... Jacek Franaschek M.D. FACEP Past President American College of Emergency Physicians. Philip Corboy, former president of the American Trial Attorneys Assn indicates that "readers as diverse as a lawyer planning to depose the CEO of an HMO or a patient seeking assistance in comparing providers will finds this book a well reasoned resource". Mark Hiepler writes that " if HMOs read and put into action Robbins practical ideas, patients will bypass the courtroom and go directly to the operating room.
