What's Your Lens?
Mark Williams' research outlining 10 human mindset "lenses" solves problems both in and out of the workplace. His work is extremely well organized for easy reference; you'll recognize in yourself and/or others the Assimilationist, Colorblind, Culturalcentrist, Elitist, Integrationist, Meritocratist, Multiculturalist, Seclusionist, New Age/Transcendent and/or Victim/Caretaker. With hope, you'll recognize that you've been reaching for your inclusive ELEVENTH LENS where paradoxical thinking acknowledges and discerns the strengths and weaknesses each lens brings to the whole personally, professionally and socially -- and globally. "The Ten Lenses" -- A Breath of Fresh Air!
"The Ten Lenses" is a badly needed breath of fresh air -- a sophisticated, intellectually grounded, and constructive framework for thinking about diversity issues. It respects and values all people and all perspectives on diversity. It opens a path to understanding each different perspective, even those dramatically different from one's own. It helps take the emotional charge out of verbal interactions between people whose approaches and reactions to diversity issues are widely divergent. It provides a new framework and a new language through which we can talk about diversity and move towards greater understanding. "The Ten Lenses" was an enormous help to me and I highly recommend it.

"The Ten Lenses" Opens Your Eyes!
I live and work in Washington, D.C., one of the most diverse cities in America. My department at work was having a lot of problems due to such a diverse workforce. We could not communicate well and our projects were never completed on time and never completed correctly. My boss brought this book in one day after he stayed up all night reading it. He could not put "The 10 Lenses" down. In a very short time, my department has turned itself around using the premises in this book. If you want to have a successful business, buy "The 10 Lenses."

Little Book That Delivers A Big Punch
If you are looking for a book that is not preachy but yet inspiring, funny but yet insightful, then this is the one for you. I very seldom read religious books but this one is not like the others. The author uses her own zany life experiences to offer messages of hope and encouragement. A powerful little book that will make you laugh and think about your own life's journey.

Madcap & Divine!
An absolutely delightful down-to-earth companion for your walk through life ...and it won't eve weigh you down in its small format. Lovely Marsha - thank you!

This woman is hilarious
I've never enjoyed an ispirational book more than this one, OK, maybe something by Anne Lamott, but 101 SIMPLE LESSONS FOR LIFE, is downright hilarious, in places...and truly insightful. Sort of like "The Road Less Traveled" meets "Traveling Mercies" meets a bit of C. S. Lewis...meets Lucille Ball. I immediatly went to the authors website to find out about her other books. I highly recommend this book. In fact my neighbor who got an advance copy said, you don't even have to be religious to like this book. And I agree. It's kind of a classic. Funny and serious in one book.

You'll read it more than once.
The true value in this book is the dynamic ideas and "action items" I was able to incorporate to manage and motivate my long term employees . . . who I thought had reach their plateau. This book worked for me.

Extremely Insightful
Mark has been able to capture a part of the business that many of us struggle with. Mark has been able to address the issues of accountability that starts within each of us as individuals. The book is very powerful as it dives directly to the motives of individuals whether they are in the best interest of a collective environment or in the best interest of a specific individuals. A must read for anyone struggling with indivividual accountability in their organization.Mark expresses his insights in a manner that most of us would avoid.

A great book about creating an accountable work culture
This book is very readable and is filled with practical strategies and tools to create a more accountable work environment. The personal and work examples bring the concepts to life. Mark's definition of accountability is right on target... "accountablity means that people can count on one another to keep performance commitments and communication agreements." I have used many of Mark's ideas with my clients with great success. Great book with timely ideas. Thanks!

A Must Read for Any College Bound Student!!!
Achieving Academic Excellence is very well written and enjoyable book. Having gone through 4 years of college and 3 years in pursuit of an advanced degree, I am well aware of what study techniques work and what doesn't. I only wish I had Mr. Mateya's book before graduating high school. Mr. Mateya outlines in one book what 7 years of hard work have taught me: There is a definite technique to studying and learning it is fundamental to academic success. I only wish I had Mr. Mateya's book before I graduated high school. Any student taking the time to use this book will be miles ahead of his/her fellow classmates. This book is a must read for any student wishing to maximize his/her academic experience. Mr. Mateya, Congratualations on a job well done!

Great Book!, A Must Have for Anyone entering College
I recently grabbed a copy of Mr. Mateya's book and found it to be an informative, yet enjoyable read. Achieving Academic Excellence does an excellent job at summarizing and listing the key studying techniques essential for the serious and struggling student attempting to maximize his/her academic opportunity. Mr. Mateya has listed in his book what 7 years of higher education has taught me: Studying is important and there is a definite technique to it which must be mastered in order to excel. A student entering college today, armed with the knowledge presented in this book, would definitely advance himself / herself ahead of his/her fellow classmates. Not only is this book a great tool for the college-bound high school student, this book would also make an excellent graduation / going-to-school gift as well. Congratulations on a job well done Mr. Mateya!

All I Ever Needed To Know ...But Didn't
Hi, I got to tell you readers that this book was such a blessing for me to have read. I am a single mother, of whom my first born is far too soon going off to college. I didn't attend college, so I don't have a multitude of guidance or wisdom to give him as I send him off to his future! I read the book before my son and was so thrilled with all I learned about college. Everything you need to know seems to be in this book. How to take great notes, even figuring out which ones to take! Scheduling time for study and play. Understanding what different Proffesors are looking to get from you to get that good grade. The funniest hint was how to stay awake during the most boring class. It is a short, extremely easy to read, well formated book. My son read it and I know he feels much more confident with all the great stuff he has learned. I also think that the cover and small size of the book really helped me to get him read to it!

Oppression of Women is Widespread in South Africa
Mark Mathabane writes that the oppression of women is widespread in South Africa. This is largely because apartheid over the years emasculated and degraded black men and stripped them of their manhood by depriving them of the means to provide for their families and loved ones. Many of these men found convenient targets for their rage, frustrations, and bitterness in those under their immediate and absolute control, their wives and children. This abuse of women and children was made easy because apartheid, for its own devious ends, encouraged and rewarded tribalism among blacks. Husbands and fathers continued to cling to customs and traditions that had long outlived their usefulness, mainly out of a sense of desperation. Under tribalism men have power, authority, and respect, while in the modern world ruled by the white man they were powerless, got no respect, were called "boys," and were treated as less than dirt. African Women is a harrowing, poignant, heroic, and inspiring saga of three women who, in their individual ways, refused to buckle under to tradition, custom, and oppression. They fought against daunting odds to preserve their individuality and independence, their dignity and pride, their hearts and souls. They worked and raised children in a culture and society where black women had hardly any rights, were daily discriminated against by apartheid, and were regarded as the property of their husbands or fathers by custom. Any attempts to liberate themselves were condemned and harshly dealt with.

phenomenal
this book is awsome. i actually felt what the women were feeling. growing up in america, this book allowed me to count my blessings!

Outstanding
Couldn't put this book down! It read like an African Waiting to Exhale only the characters were real. This really showed how over 3 generations more things remained the same than not. These women were very, very strong women who overcame a great deal

Eleven spaceships, four aliens, and a fifth grader compete
Eleven spaceships, four aliens, and a fifth grader compete in an intergalactic race from one side of the universe to the other but must face some formidable challenges during the race. When Spuckler finds his old rival is also in the running, Akiko finds herself in the competition for a trophy in Aiko & the Alpha Centauri 5000, a fun science fiction tale for young readers.

akiko and the alpha centauri 5000
Akiko and the Alpha Centauri 5000 is a wonderful addition to the Akiko series. When her friends from Smoo trans-moovulate her on board the Boach's Bullet to help them win the Alpha Centauri 5000, Akiko is a little upset. But soon enough she's pitching in to help Spuckler win against the sneaky Streed. If you like light adventure stories, you're going to love this new Akiko.

A Great Brand New Adventure
As a fan of the Akiko comics and the past four books I can't express how happy I am to have another adventure, and best of all it's totally barnd new! Plus, it's a lot of fun, even if Middleton isn't. (If I was Akiko I'd just stay on Smoo!)

The Quest Nears It's Conclusion.....
Continuing their quest to free the captured Prince Froptoppit, Akiko, Gax, Poog, Mr. Beeba, and Spuckler must get past one final obstacle: The huge Wall of Trudd. And waiting on the other side- Alia Rellapor and the mysterious Throck.....

Writer/Illustrator Mark Crilley continues to improve with each book, and this is the best one yet. The characters are great fun, and the situations they encounter are exciting, but nothing that would scare a younger reader. This would make a great bedtime story....

Make sure to check out the Akiko comics from Sirius Comics!

Great Book!
I thought Akiko and the Great Wall of Trudd was one of the best books I've ever read. I love the series, and I hope for more. It's easy to read, and the characters are very interesting. My favorite characters are Gax and Spuckler, because Gax is a funny robot, and Spuckler is smart, strong and is kind of a ruffian.

Akiko and the Great Wall of Trudd
The third book in the series was the best so far! I have read all of the books in the series to my 6 year old. He has liked them all. But with the Wall of Trudd, he wanted to read more and more. It has great action in it. My interest was also kept by watching Akiko grow as a leader and a person. The characters continue to amuse and engage.

All Aboard With E.M. Frimbo: World's Greatest Railroad Buff (Kodansha Globe)

"Get on a train!"
The old nostalgic ways of travel -- railroad trains and ocean liners -- have a romance to them that cars and airplanes just can't match. Rogers E.M. Whitaker, the man behind the pseudonymous E.M. Frimbo, and his sometime collaborator, Tony Hiss, capture some of that romance and interest in these essays by and about the world's greatest railroad buff. Detailing some of Whitaker/Frimbo's great train experiences from the '30s to the '70s, and recapturing the all-but-vanished world of life on the rails, the pieces gathered here make for fascinating and evocative reading.

As with any collection of essays, some of the chapters here are better than others. And generally, I found the chapters added to this "greatly expanded edition" to be less satisfying than the earlier ones, though the obituary of Whitaker and the long closing piece, "Frimbo's Peak," were both rather moving. Much of Tony Hiss's preface I could likewise have done without. His predictions for the revival of government-funded passenger rail in the early years of the twenty-first century seem, fortunately, not yet to be coming to pass. But then, it wouldn't be the first time a Hiss was on the wrong side of history.

But don't let the preface distract you. The essays themselves are by and large great reading, and have me hoping to hop a train before too much longer myself. Whether you're an inveterate train buff, a long-time Frimbo fan, or just a fan of great travel writing, I recommend grabbing this book and taking to the rails, if only in your mind.

A book for all ages
I read this book as an 11 year old boy, and still remembered it over all these years as a wonderful railroading book. It really captured the glamour and joy of passenger rail travel in those days.

And I was excited and thrilled when I met Tony Hiss by chance on the Boston-NYC shuttle, and he told me that the book had been reissued and was available on Amazon. I (virtually) ran right out and purchased it...as much for my 9 year old (also a rail fan) as for myself.

An infectiously enjoyable ode to the joys of train travel
I was the editor of the greatly expanded 1997 edition of this railroading classic of the 1970s. E.M. Frimbo was the alter ego of Whitaker, a writer who spent more than 50 years at the New Yorker, one of the original coterie that included A.J. Liebling, Joseph Mitchell, and others. Beginning in the 1940s, Frimbo began chugging through the pages of the magazine, right up to and beyond Whitaker's death in the early 1980s. In the 1960s, Tony Hiss had come along and become Whitaker's collaborator on these travel essays. When Hiss began to assemble this new edition, he discovered many pieces that were not in the earlier edition, so the book grew by 50%, and includes many photos of Whitaker never published before. Hiss unearthed such articles as one about the railway in Wales that travels through the Potemkin village where the classic TV show "The Prisoner" was filmed, and a final tribute to Whitaker, appropriately mounted to him at Cumbres Pass, the highest elevation in the USA reached by a train. If you have affection for the open (rail)road, then you will love this book.
