Analyzing Political Theory
Myself, SUKANT VYAS,am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Dyal Singh (Evening) College of the University of Delhi, India and I also teach postgraduate students - Liberal Politicl Theory and Marxist Political Theory. I have reviewed many books on political theory specifically and have written research articles. This particular book has by now become a handbook for me as a teacher of political science. I do not think there is any better comment for this very useful book for all the scholars of political science. This book is recommended for all interested in politics.
Analyzing Politics; Rationality, Behaviors, and Institutions
I am using this book as the primary text of a graduate level course in Rational Action Theory. It is very clear and easy to read, and takes several different and complex matters, and simplifies them. The subject matter involves: How we make decisions, Politics, Statics, and Probability. Of all material that I have read on the subject matter including The Federalist Papers, The Prince, Microeconomics and Behavior, and An Economic Theory of Democracy, this is by far the easiest to understand. I rate this book four stars. I would have rated it five stars if it used examples that were more interesting, and held the reader to the relatively dry subject matter a little better. I am not trying to find fault with this very good work. I just think that it could have been even better if some minor changes had been made.

Not of interest to me. A little distressing.
I'm glad I didn't buy this book, now that I've seen it. Although the reproduction quality of the photographs is very good, the photographs themselves aren't interesting to me and are even a bit distressing.
I haven't seen the film(s) or exhibitions about Nan's work though. There is some information about her work on the web - take a look at Yahoo.
family fun for all!
this is one of the best collections of color photography i have seen. nan and her friends are beautiful and scary and strong and fun and sad. i have seen the slide show and bought the book when it was reprinted. go out and buy it! END
Basic Business Statistics
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall College Div (June, 1999)
Amazon base price: $31.80
Average review score:
Good, but could be better
This book is okay, but it could definitely be better. For a basic statistics class, this book contains WAY too much information to digest in a semester of college. No professor I know of has ever gotten past chapter 8. Further, the problems are quite wimpy as far as the amount of thought required for them. Quite wimpy. Could be better. The only good thing is that for doing it on a spreadsheet, the data comes on a CD, so that you don't have to re-type it, thankfully.
This is one of the best business statistics book
This book is used in the course of Business Statistics at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. This is a useful and understandable book. The questions are well-prepared.Also,the statistics program PhSTAT is given with this book. I advise you to buy.
Breathtaker

Sorry, I'm still breathing.
Purchased this book from my local comic shop and read it and that's it. Really, that's it. Had an interesting premise, plot was tight, characters were intersting, everthing was fine. What happened was the ending. There was none. Zilch. Nada. This could have ended better than it did. How did Chase reverse her deadly kiss and save THE MAN? Who did she resolve to run off into the sunset with? What about the government's involvement afterwards? Too many loose ends left me gasping for a better closing.
Unusual story with unusual art
BREATHTAKER is an adventure story involving a
government-sponsored secret weapons program, an
unwilling subject, and the man assigned to take
her down.
Chase Darrow is a young, beautiful woman who possesses a lethal, unwanted power: she has the ability to literally drain the life out of her lovers. When a secret faction of the government discovers her existence, a government-sponsored and sanctioned superhero known only as The Man is sent to bring her back to the federal fold where her powers can be examined...and exploited.
This was a rather interesting premise but it sort of fell flat upon its ending, as originally seen in the 4-part comic book miniseries. This collected edition has a few extra pages that attempt to expand upon the original ending, with somewhat unsatisfying results.
The Hempel artwork is bright and vivid, and while his characters seem somewhat abstract, it's only because he tends to magnify the imperfections we all have.
It's worth a look if the premise interests you.

Brief Child Therapy Homework Planner
If you work with underprivileged kids, as I do, you will find this book's exercises very difficult to use. The exercises require sustained attention for reading long passages, and the vocabulary level is extremely high, even for my 7th grade clients. Many exercises require critical thinking and creative writing skills, which my client's have great difficulty with as well. Most inner city kids I work with are performing 2-3 grade levels behind, and look at me like I am crazy when I try to do these exercises with them.
This book would work great with middle/upper-middle class kids who are taught verbal skills from the get go.

Child Homework Planner Review
I feel this book is an excellent resource for students, teachers, family, and clinicians. I use this book on a regular basis, incorporating each homework assignment into each session and treatment plan. It is very helpful in defining the appropriate technique to a specific problem area. This book gives specific homework assignments for particular diagnoses. As clinicians, we can use this book to explore assignments other clinicians have found useful. We can also increase our knowledge of new homework assignments. This book is different to other books due to its specificity to various childhood disorders. I recommend counseling classes use this book as a guide to learn techniques. I also recommend families to read this book and try out the homework assignments. As a psychotherapist, I have found this book to be a highly effective tool in my everyday work with childhood disorders.
Bscs Biology: A Molecular Approach
Published in Hardcover by Everyday Learning Corp (July, 2000)

Average review score:
Too confusing
I used this text for Honors Biology as a high school sophomore and the material was presented in a complicated fashion that makes it hard for a typical reader to understand. While I am generally a good student and can grasp new ideas quickly this text was complicated and in my opinion needs a lot of teacher aid in explaining, especially for first year biology.
Excellent AP prep text!
I used this book in my Biology PreAP class, PreAP meaning prerequisite to AP Biology, and managed to always get the highest test scores in class(although I do get the highest scores in all my classes)! Its topics cover the cellular processeses almost as in depth as AP Biology and will no doubt build a strong foundation when entering AP Biology. And although it maybe very in-depth for a typical high school freshman--its actual targeted audience are gifted students at the sophomore level--especially when it comes to its most complicated subject of Biochemistry, it should come as simple and quite obviously logical if read carefully. Its biggest strengths are in the evaluation questions, which help you to build an effective writing strategy and study guide when it comes to writing those lengthy scientific essays in AP Biology exam. Of course, this book alone won't guarantee you a 5.0 in the AP Biology exam(as you do have to get a new book for AP Biology), but it is the book that will guide you to that goal!
Captain America: Man Without a Country
Published in Paperback by Marvel Books (April, 1998)
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:
Yuck.
This is just more proof that Mark Waid doesn't understand Captain America. The story is incredibly boring, overly wordy, and has a stupid ending. I bought it because I was a big fan of Waid's stuff, but this sure didn't read like a Waid story. If you want good Waid, go buy Kingdom Come and Flash. Forget this schlock.
Great Captain America Tale
The basis for this book is what is the worst thing that can happen to Captain America? How about being thrown out of America and having your American citizenship being taken away from you? That's what happens here as Steve Rogers tries to find who framed him for a crime that he didn't commit. It's an exciteing story which builds to an explosive climax and it could only have been written by Mark Waid.

Great Story
My seven year old son loved this book. He used it for his accelerated reading program.
Chomsky's Universal Grammar: An Introduction
Published in Hardcover by Blackwell Publishers (April, 1996)
Amazon base price: $81.95
Average review score:
A Transition Help from GB to MP
The Government and Binding Theory (GB), though Chomsky prefers it to be called the Principle and Parameter Theory, is the most popular version of Chomsky's grammar in 1980s'. This book is an easy reading to cover every important part of GB. All significant terms are highlighted in a shaded block, which is very convenient for the reader to check up. In particular, the last chapter of the book provides a brief but clear explanation for the current version of Chomsky's theory, i.e., the Minimalist Program (MP). The chapter is a good help for the reader who want to transit from GB to MP, though he would be quite surprising to see that almost all key concepts in GB, such as D-structure, S-structure, Government, disappear in MP. This is a good introductory book both about the GB and MP framework.
excellent intro to GB for non-linguists
Although I am not a Chomskyan, I personally am fond of this book. It is well-written and lucid, presenting basic Government & Binding theory in terms that are very easy to understand. I doubt a single non-technical introduction to generative grammar of this brevity and clarity has yet been written (far superior to Pinker's hand-waving in _The Language Instinct_), and I recommend it to anyone, non-generative linguist and non-linguist alike, who is interested in current mainstream linguistics in North America.
However, Cook does seem worshipful of Chomsky to a degree that is just short of disturbing; Chomsky is frequently quoted more as authority than for argument, and does indeed appear on almost every page. The overall affect was, for me, disquieting.
It is also, of course, no longer accurate: "Chomsky's" Universal Grammar is now the Minimalist Program, which is handled only by a final, tacked-on chapter. Cook should completely update this book with a third edition that starts with Chomsky's current theory from the beginning.

Not easily understood.
While the book does give a lot of valuable info to one starting out in the service business, it is not explained in enough detail. It leavea me with a lot of questions that I still can't find answers for. It should be followed by a book that will provide the answers to the serious minded service person.

Starting a Cleaning Business
Don Aslett covers many of the major points that anyone who wants to start a business should consider. He has obviously gained a thorough knowledge of the subject through many years of practical experience in the business. As a cleaning contractor who started in the same way as Don I disagree with some of his views regarding hiring and motivating staff although this may because of the different countries where we work (Reviewer resides in the UK). He advises buying products from local suppliers in order to recieve a good reliable service. This is always more expensive for the contractor and does not guarantee good service. His points regarding overspending on items such as vehicles etc is well founded and his advice is generally sound. It is an interesting read although to gain more knowledge on the subject an aspiring cleaner/entreprenuer will need to know much more about the subject before considering embarking on a cleaning career and setting themselves loose on an unwary public. He has covered the subject in other books he has written and this may be found there. All things considered his book is readable and quite informative and generally quite good value for your dollar.
