Index of Garden Plants: The New Royal Horticultural Society Dictionary
Published in Hardcover by Pan Books Ltd (December, 1994)
Author: Mark Griffiths
Amazon base price: $87.50
Average review score:

Ultimate Reference
The RHS Index is a must for any hort library. Taxonomy has changed so much in recent years that Hortus Third has long been obsolete. I found this book to be indispensible in my research, aiding me in confidently naming thousands of plants. A real bonus is that RHS has alphabetically interspersed common names throughout the latin entries. No more flipping to the back for a separate index! Worth twice the price.

Essential to any serious gardener
What a great book! I have long sought a book that would provide a handy reference to the extraordinary range of plants out there to help me pick out what will go where in our exurban garden. This book does it. Not having photographs is actually a plus of this volume, as it does not give you an idealized picture of what your gangly specimens will actually look like; the textual descriptions are more realistic, I think.

Healthy, Flavorful, Easy
I was first introduced to Indonesian food at a wonderful Rijstaffel (rice table) restaurant in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in 1994. Once I returned to the States, I lost touch with this cuisine. Fortunately, I recently found The Indonesian Kitchen. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. The ingredients needed are relatively easy to find if you have any Asian groceries in your area (and since we have a few here in western Montana, you should be able to find them just about anywhere). My family loves the dishes I've prepared from this book, and it will get used often! Spice up your life and try the recipes in this book. You won't be sorry.

THIS IS THE BOOK FOR INDONESIAN COOKING.
As a "meat-n-potatoes" American woman married to an Indonesian man, I have been looking for a good Indonesian cookbook for 15 years. THIS IS IT. Most other Indonesian cookbooks are written in Dutch or suffer from metric measurements. Recipes from other multi-Asian cookbooks have resulted in bland semi-chinese food. But this book results in authentic Indonesian cooking. All dishes have both English and Indonesian names so I can cook my husband recipes from his childhood. Everything I have tried has turned out delicious. Also the menu planning tips for "rice tables" or banquets help with meal planning. Spices and common ingredients are listed in Indonesian, Latin botanical, English, and Chinese or Indian if applicable.

Mark Gruhin Chapter Fantastic!
This is an excellent book with an extremely insightful and fascinating chapter written by Mark I. Gruhin. He is a very skilled writer and lawyer, and I look forward to his future writings.

Great Book-Very Interesting....
Being a lawyer in NYC, I was very impressed with some Inside the Minds: Interne Lawyers. Although it is impossible to cover every Internet related topic, the book does a good job at covering some very interesting topics. In addition, the individuals portrayed in the book represent a good cross sampling of different talents related to Internet law. I particularly enjoyed the interview with Mark Fischer at Palmer & Dodge. If you are a woman, make sure to also check out Inside the Minds: Leading Women.

Forget John Kremer.
And the Ross books too. Okay, so some of you won't want to, but INTENT TO SELL may be the only book you'll need and actually use in the marketing and promoting of your book.

This is a no nonsense, practical guide to selling your genre novel. Unlike the Kremer book and other such marketing bibles that focus primarily on non-fiction books, Jeff's book deals with the realities of selling a novel.

If you're a new author, a self published author or print on demand, I can't recommend this book more highly. As an author who has published two books through small presses and used many of Jeff's marketing and promoting plans, I can honestly tell you that they work! Yes, it's hard work selling your books, but use the ideas in this book, mark it up for reference and sell, sell, sell!

Patty G. Henderson, author of BLOOD SCENT, Justice House Publishing, and THE BURNING OF HER SIN, Barclay Books.

A must-read for learning about book publicity
In this well-written and succinct book by Jeffrey Marks, the aspiring genre author will find invaluable advice and instruction from an experienced veteran of the publishing world. Marks provides both general and specific tips and approaches for making published fiction a profitable and exciting venture, as well as helpful appendices with contact information to help implement his proven strategy. Marks is straightforward and clear in this book, exercising the very sort of ambition he suggests. INTENT TO SELL is vital reading for the business side of writing and publishing, giving concise expertise on turning one's passion for writing into profit.

International Relations Theory: Realism, Pluralism, Globalism
Published in Paperback by MacMillan Pub Co (January, 1993)
Authors: Paul R. Viotti and Mark V. Kauppi
Amazon base price: $51.00
Used price: $4.00
Average review score:

An Excellent Graduate Level Textbook
Kauppi and Viotti's work gives a comprehensive comparison between the contending theories of International Relations. Each section is followed by key readings which helps clear any misunderstanding and introduces to the student some of the finest texts supporting each perspective. Truly informative, great book. Recommended to Political Science graduate students everywhere.

Basic about realism, pluralism, globalism
A very good comparative analysis of the international relations theory. The authors first introduce each theory and briefly characterize it, describe characteristic authors and explain the advantages and disadvantages of realists, pluralist and globalist. Following each brief review of a theory are a number of essays of typical authors. I personally used this book to prepare for my pre-exams in political science and there's nothing that comes close to it

A superb book
This book is the centerpiece of the Princeton career center. We get ALOT of use out of it.

Very Well Written....
This book is very well put together. The material is presented in, at times, a jovial manner(hard to do with an instructional computer text). It's easy to understand and the authors have an incredible grasp on the subject matter.

wow it was so romantic
I loved the part where the little dog got run over by the truck and little billy ran after him

This ONE is for REAL
No matter what you think about differential equations, you just got to have that book. The software that comes with it, is dynamite, and fully adds to Mathematica's Dsolve. Fact is, after you read the book you may understand what Ordinary Differential Equations are all about. "By the way there is nothing ordinary about Differential equations". These guys really know their stuff. Even better they can really explain it well. The book reads like someone is constantly talking to you or guiding you. The presentation is great. My only problem is that I finally understood the stuff. [ A pleasant one at that] The other fascinating thing about the book is the historical backgound of the mathematicians who contibuted to the discovery of DEs. This makes the book so enjoyable. Read this book and your girlfriend/boygriend will think you are a true inspired genius. However make it fast. They are bound to find out for themselves. This book will be true classic. BTW, you c! ould also look up another great book on DE. Authors are Blanchard, Devaney and Hall. Published by Brooks/Cole. These two books are all you should ever need.

Great Text and Fantastic Mathematica Aproach with ODE.m
Really good, if not best. It is the resource text as an example for textbooks for the years to come. You learn to work out analytically first and then computing and numerically. The Mathematica notebook format of the acompaning CD-Rom is not only containing all the 900 pages of the book and it's graphycs but also animations and the solutions to exercises and Mathematica exercises. I would have liked that my first ODE textbook would have been like that one. Fantastic!

Awesome Text!
This book is user-friendly, and students really like it. The only thing they don't like is the price, but, every intro text like this is over $100 these days. I really love this text for teaching my introductory classes.

The best introduction to a complicated subject available.
Extremely well written, many current examples and court cases, raises important social aspects of the insurance transaction. Covers issues important to consumers expecially frequently purchased insurance contracts

Make it a part of your personal library !
This book is well written one and contains a vast and updated knowledge in soil microbiology. The content of this book is easy to digest especially for individuals who are new to the field of soil microbiology. The text is enriched with easy to follow displays and figures. I strongly recommend my fellow students to get this reference and make it a part of their personal library.

Great book on Microbiology
This is one of the best science textbooks that I have ever read. It is intended for students and others who are interested in everyday microorganisms and the roles they play in the environment. Topics include the history of soil microbiology, metabolism, enzymes, soil macrofauna and microfauna, microbial interactions, soil as a microbial habitat, nitrogen and other nutrient cycling processes, carbon cycling, heavy metal remediation, bioremediation and composting.

What makes this book unique is the fun way that the information is presented (from fundamental to advanced topics). What I especially liked were the breakout sections that described especially interesting environmental "hot" topics (PCBs in the environment, Se in Kesterson wetland, vermicomposting, and many others) and simple microbial experiments (e.g. making sauerkraut at home, measuring denitrification, and many others) illustrating the role of microorganisms and other procedural steps of the methods. Another aspect that I really liked was that each subject was told in a short story format with enthusiasm and wit.
