I don't know how to title this.
WE have a Donor by Mark Dowie is an excellent easy breezy non technical read for the the general pulbic. The very people who will make the decisions to donate or not. Information to help make an informed decision regarding organ donation. There are thousands out here needing transplants with others too afraid to sign the donor card because of inaccurate information or Gossip being spread. Some people are afraid the physicians will not do enough to save their lives because an organ is needed. I actually heard a person say this. Hog Wash! The physicias will always do everything possible to save a person's life. After being on dialysis for 18 months I received a transplant from a brain dead accident victim. It is the "Gift of Life". My younger brother died suddenly this month and his organs were donated to help save others as he wished. I have been on both sides of this issue and believe this to be a perfect read for anyone wanting information on organ donation.

The best devotional book series I've ever used
This book, Welcome Home Year of Mark, is one of a series of three of its kind. The devotionals follow the Christian Liturgical year and offer wonderful prayers, readings and blessings that may be used on a personal or family level. Daily readings accompanied by simple, yet powerful prayers prepare one for the day ahead or refresh one when the day is done. Combined with the other two books, Year of Matthew and Year of Luke, the series takes the reader through the entire Bible over a period of three years. The cycle then begins again, each time revealing new insights into dealing with daily life and further enriching the reader in his/her journey of faith.

What Is Darwinism?: And Other Writings on Science and Religion

A Thoughtful Classic
Prof. Hodge was arguably America's most respected theologian for most of his 56 years teaching at Princeton Theological Seminary. This was laregly due to how he was able to apply his keen insights to such a wide number of cultural interests. Dr. Hodge had his fingers on the pulse of politics, the arts, literature and history. After theology his greatest interest was in science. He enjoyed lively debate and had strong opinions, but he was always fair and gracious to his opponents. Folks often disagreed with Hodge's conclusions, but they always knew he was going to summarized the subject at hand lucidly and insightfully.

This book is chiefly known for its conclusion, *What is Darwinism? It is atheism.* This is unfortunate. He only condemns Darwinism after he has spent more than 100 pages closely defining it. It is not all change that he condemns, or even evolution, but a particular species of evolution -- naturalistic Darwinism.

Hodge rarely made hasty judgments. He wa sone of the first theologians to comment on Darwin's The Origin of Species (1859) in print -- 1861. Hodge spent many years studying all aspects of the theory. He identifies its strengths as well as its philosophical inconsistencies.

This book is of great value not only to those interested in theology and 19th century history and culture, but also to those interested in the contemporary debates over the merits of Neo-Darwinism (Hodge would have surely been fascinated by the exciting new Intelligent Design [ID] theorists -- like William Dembski, Jonathan Wells, Hugh Ross, Michael Behe, etc.).

When Hollywood Loved Britain: The Hollywood 'British' Film 1939-45

Revelations and Nostalgia in "When Hollywood Loved Britain"
Dr. Glancy's book covers those American films during the war years, 1939-1945, that dealt with England and the English. I was 9-15 during that period and spent many nickels and dimes to see them. For me, and I would imagine for anyone of my vintage, this book is chock full of both nostalgia and a wealth of details about the making of those films, all the more fascinating for the behind the scenes documentation. I literally cut my moveigoing teeth, as, I am sure, did many other of my contemporaries, on "Mrs. Miniver," "A Yank in the RAF," "Eagle Squadron," and so many others. What is new, for me, is the details of the conscious, and well motivated, attempt to subtly marshall US public opinion behind the British, mostly during the time when they were struggling alone. This was effected, not only with the war movies, but also and perhaps more subtly, with others, such as "Goodbye, Mr. Chips," 'Pride and Prejudice," and "Waterloo Bridge." It is one of those things we may have assumed to be true, but find all the more interesting when we are shown the full story. I believe that for anyone interested in movies at all, but particularly for those interested in those films which for many of us are still the hayday of film making, this will be a fascinating book. I look forward to seeing more of this genre from Dr. Glancy, and, hopefully, from others who can, with the same degree of skill and industry, contribute to this entertaining and important topic.

A Review For Where In America's Past Is Carmen Sandiego?
This is my review for Where In America's Past Is Carmen Sandiego? You Are The Detective Series, by John Peel, Illustrated by Paul Vaccarello. This is definetly a five-star book, that I highly recommend! It's so entertaining, that I've read it over again, many, many times! This time around, Carmen Sandiego, and her elusive gang are sneaking through American History, and have already taken 4 priceless treasures. In this book, there are 4 mystery-adventure games for you to play. How you play them: First, you choose what item you want to go after, first, out of: Old New York City, Robert E. Lee's Horse Traveler, Benjamin Franklin's Bifocals, and The Apollo 8 Space Capsule that orbited the Moon! Then, turn to the indicated page number. Example: Say you first went after The Apollo 8 Space Capsule. The number would be: 133. Well, there aren't 133 pages in the book. But, on each page there are several numbers. So, you'd find the number 133, not the page. Read on, until you have choices. You could either question people, or go to a new destination. First, question people. There are 3 people that you can question. {You don't have to question all 3 if you don't want or need to!} As usual, turn to the number indicated. Once you know where you're going, next, go to your new place, and time period, by turning to the indicated number. Do the questioning, and traveling, repeatedly, until you have only one option: Question 1 of 3 people. Now, you have to be careful. The thief is nearby, with the loot. Question whoever you like, until you find a list of addresses for all of Carmen's sneaky gang. Then, choose your thief. {By the way, you should have recieved clues about what your suspect looks like. Then, you should have recorded all of your clues on the Score Card, and what treasure you're returning, how many travel points you have, That means put down 1 point for each move you make. and who you think you're suspect is.} Then, choose which one of Carmen's gang is your suspect, and turn to the page that's indicated. At the end of the case, add up all of your travel points, and check the final number against the Scoring Chart in the back of the book. This wonderful book comes with 8 suspect cards, 8 Map Cards, 4 Stolen Object Cards, and 4 Bookmark/ Scorecards. I love this book, and recommend it to anyone who loves mystery, and adventure! Enjoy! I hope that you liked my review, and, maybe, even considered buying the product!

Where No Flag Flies: Donald Davidson and the Southern Resistance

A fine biography; a necessary rescue
The lack of attention Donald Davidson has received since his death is scandalous. No doubt it stems in part from his racicialist views and resistance to the civil rights movement. Well Davidson was a flawed man--but to call him a "Racist" ( His old friend Robert Penn Warren's daughter says that his name was never spoken in their house on that account--I find it hard to believe) is simply to miss the measure of the man. He was a fine poet (just a notch below Robert Penn Warren and John Crowe Ransom) and a brilliant literary critic and teacher. His "Attack on Leviathan" is essential reading for those who confuse conservatism with Newt Gingrich, and his poem "Lee in the Mountains" is a tribute not only to a lost cause, but to all lost causes, and should therefore resonate with all but the incurable narcissist. Winchell has done us a great service by presenting the man warts and allto us. If we ever get beyond the name calling that passes for political and literary judgement these days it will be due in large measure to books like this one.

White City sparkles and transcends
With his latest book of collected poems, Mark Irwin once again proves that he is one of the finest poets writing today. With a voice that is at once ephemral and yet schooled in hard earth, he writes poems of beauty and transcendence. Similar to Jorie Graham or Pinsky in scope and texture, Mark cleaves a path of his own here. This book is wonderful and I reccommend checking out his earlier collection Quick, Now and Always for more of the same.

For the Love of the Team
Temple University Press has published some notable team histories in this on-going series. The Sox Encyclopedia however, is at the top rung of the ladder for its completeness, quality of photos, and crisp writing. Even Cub fans are envious, considering how badly done the Cub book was, in comparison. Only a true believer and a died-in-the-wool fan could have produced such an epic labor of love as this -- 600 plus pages of facts, figures, trivia, stories and Sox folklore. Lindberg is controversial in his opinions. A lot of Sox fans don't agree with him, but few doubt his knowledge of team history. Fans of the South Side team who haven't read this book are really missing out on something. Lindberg concludes with the 1997 season. I hope there is an update in the works. No one writes books about the Sox these days, let's face it. But then again no one writes about the Sox like this guy either.
