In this 500 plus page reference manual you start off with a great breakdown of IP routing and the different types of routing. The author make easy work of how routing functions and what you need in order to make routing occur. Then the book breaks down the RIP protocol very well, however the book should have included RIP2 and what the similarities and differences are and how to use them separately and together.
The section on IGRP and EIRGP is also excellent, taking you from the basic understanding right through troubleshooting. This is the first book I have seen that was able to do this and do it well, although both protocols could have been given separate chapters for more detail.
OSPF is another protocol this book delves deeply into and this is by far the best breakdown of the topic. The configuration section is highly informative and for the most part easy enough to follow without getting lost.
The BGP Protocol section is broken down to explain, in great detail, what is required to make this protocol work both an IBGP and EBGP. The advanced configuration section leaves nothing out and the troubleshooting section give clear, concise explanations of how to make the protocol work and work correctly.
Other section of their book covers topics like static and default routing, redistribution routing and DDR. Each section sheds enormous light on the best methods and ways to make sure your routers are setup and running properly.
Finally the appendicles included cover access list configuration, routing with VLANs, which could have been given a section in the book if the information was expanded. About the only drawback, and a very small one, is there was no real coverage of TCP/IP and subnetting, which if included would add more value to the book.
Overall this book can be used as a handy reference manual and a study guide for Cisco tests. The price is small in comparison to what you get.
The book starts from the basics of IP routing with cisco IOS in mind, even tell you about 'routed' vs 'routing' protocols! The protocol coverage starts from RIP then moving on to IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS and BGP. It has an entire chapters on Static and default routing, Redistributing routes, DDR. Appendix has a nice brief discussion of access lists, VLANs, NAT and HSSRP.
If you deal with cisco routers, you got to have this book. Specially the beginners can get a lot from the text coz it not only covers the config issues but also the theory behind various routing protocols.
All in all, a pleasant book to own and benefit from. And yes I did find solution to my IS-IS problem in the book.

Mark Gerner openly shares his experiences, emotions and thoughts in a way that not only provide the reader with insight but with medical facts and a bird's eye view of the treatments he received. I finished this book with a greater understanding of what it means to be 'treated' medically and a far greater respect and understanding for anyone whose life's journey is interrupted with this disease.
This book is a great read for anyone interested in personal triumph and a definite MUST READ for anyone who is, or knows, someone battling cancer.

The book is a very clear and well organized and will teach you prophecy from their viewpoint. While the book claims to be 'complete' it really only gives you very, very short explanations of the other viewpoints. Nonetheless, there is a wealth of information included on other subjects that most other books on prophecy omit. I especially appreciate that fact that the author treats other viewpoints of prophecy graciously and doesn't ridicule them. There are many excellent charts, outlines, and lists included in the book that makes this an excellent reference source. There is a question and answer section at the end of the book that is particularly useful. The typesetting and layout are modern and very well done.
I was hoping that this book would deal with 2 Thess. 2:1-4 and the timing of the rapture but the author has avoided it as many in the pre-trib camp do. While these verses and the chapter in general are referenced about eight times throughout the book, it is always in reference to other events described within (restrainer, power & signs, antichrist seated in temple, day of the Lord, etc). There is no integration of this set of verses as they concern timing with the pre-trib doctrine, probably since this is a problem verse that just doesn't work with pre-trib doctrine. For an excellent treatment on this subject for comparitive study get Robert Van Kampen's book "The Rapture Question Answered." Van Kampen's book is an argument against pre-trib so be prepared for a more confrontational tone; but it is a must read if you want to be exposed to other equally valid viewpoints on the rapture.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject but make sure your studies are balanced with books on other viewpoints (preterist, pre-wrath, amillenialism) and make up your own mind about what the scriptures really do say. Too often, authors of books include information that make their case but leave out facts that will weaken (sometimes considerably) their position. By studying as many viewpoints as possible, you'll get a larger set of facts in which to base your opinion on. Just because it's in print doesn't mean it's correct. There are many learned and Godly people with differing viewpoints so don't hang your hopes on just one set of theories, no matter how persuasive or popular they might be.

To my surprise, and delight, this book was truly AWESOME. So much so that I just received it a couple of weeks ago, and I'm now on my second reading. The book is packed with information. It not only delves into the aspects of Cable Modems and DSL(which is does so very intensely), but also tells you how you can optimize your standard dial-up modem connection to the internet. You can't lose with this book--if you already have an internet connection, the knowledge on getting the most out of THAT hook-up is worth the price of the book. In addition, the author definitely has a sense of humor, and that REALLY helps when you sit down to read a book, and along with educating you, you're also given a dose of humor that's JUST ENOUGH to make the education FUN.
The book also gives the reader information on what to do in order to have your computer completely in order BEFORE the installation of a broadband hook-up takes place, whether you do it yourself, or somebody's going to be installing it for you. This book even delves into how computers work, and the processes of computers connecting to one another to put the wheels of the internet into motion. The reader won't be BOGGED down with this, however, as the book is written in a very clear, concise manner. You'll also learn little tricks here and there throughout the book on how to maintain your computer for overall optimal performace. What a great book--I couldn't recommend it more highly!
The second part of the book is divided into chapters explaining ISDN, DSL, satellite, and wireless Internet and how each one works. It also gives you an idea of which specific type might work best for your individual needs. The next part of the book is divided into chapters explaining how to install whichever service you've decided on, complete with "installation checklists" at the end of these chapters.
There are also a couple chapters devoted to keeping your PC secure from "hacker attacks," which is always a problem, but even more so if you have this kind of Internet connection. Finally, there's a section devoted to troubleshooting problems, even a glossary at the book's end so you can familiarize yourself with related terms, and if nothing else amaze your friends with your knowledge of this technology!
This book provides an excellent overview of the high speed Internt technology available today.

The method is extremely effective yet spontaneous enough to hold your attention, and best of all, no dictionary is needed. All the English equivalents are included on the tapes along with the native Spanish speaker.
Of the many methods I have experienced, this is by far the fastest and easiest I have experienced. The native speaker is clear as a bell and the American instructor talks you through the tapes explaning everything so you don't have to guess.
I bought a Spanish dictionary to help me learn with this course and guess what? I haven't used it once. Why should I? The explanations and translations are given to you 'immediately' on the tapes and in the learning guide.

For men, this book doesn't beat around the bush (pun intended) as it describes in graphic detail how to - ahem - conquer as many women as possible, in more positions than the Kama Sutra can describe, from womb to tomb. In no uncertain terms, it will turn the "nicest guy" (what a curse) into an a**hole so quickly that you'll have Penthouse playmates begging you to take them home with you. Even some of us nice girls will come your way (unless we've read the book before you!) Don't keep this one on your bookstand, however, as your secret will soon be revealed. Keep it under your bed along with your useless girlie magazines, and memorize it verbatim. I highly recommend that you also take a juggling class, as you'll need to learn this skill when you try to manage all the new women in your life. Happy hunting!

Major disciplines coverd include: phonetics, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Also included in this new addition are new chapters on second language acquisition and psycholinguistics.
One of the best features of this text is how well it is laid out. It is a pleasure to peruse and even study because of it's logical and user friendly format.
If you love anything about language- whether knowing it's origins, or what part of the mouth is used to create certain sounds, or how language changes over time and for what reasons, or a host of other curiosities, you will certainly enjoy the wealth of information within Contemporary Linguistics!
One thing in particular that I liked about the format of CL was the treatment of more advanced material (marked "Advanced") in each chapter. The "Advanced" sections augment the material in the rest of the chapter and are placed in logical sequence with the rest of the material instead of appearing in an appendix at the end of the chapter. For example, a section marked "advanced" on X' (read X-bar) Theory appears fairly early in the syntax chapter. Having some knowledge of X' Theory allows the reader to proceed to examine the rest of the material with the knowledge that there exists an intermediate level of structure between lexical categories (N, V, ...) and phrasal categories (NP, VP, ...).
Most chapters in CL are pretty well written and technical tools to treat linguistic phenomena are almost always introduced at the correct juncture. However, CL does not treat Innateness properly (why Innateness and arguments for and against Innateness), and has a weak chapter on semantics. The reader would do well to augment the material in CL by reading Pinker's "The Language Instinct" or Jackendoff's "Patterns in the Mind" for a non-technical introduction to some ideas in linguistics, as well as sections of De Swart's "Intro to Natural Language Semantics" to get an idea of how semantics is done. If the reader is interested in looking at language from a cognitive science perspective, she would also do well to read most of Gleitman et al's "An Invitation to Cognitive Science: Language".
All in all, CL provides a relatively painless initiation into linguistics and I highly recommend it.
