Laughed out loud....
You can't help but laugh...not at us but near us.

It really is as good as people are saying. But even better, you will see the world with a slightly twisted perspective afterwords...it really is a fun book.

"AN ACERBIC DELIGHT FROM COVER TO COVER"
'BAY WINDOWS' WROTE: "Simply put, IT'S QUEER WORLD is an acerbic delight from cover to cover.... Simpson excels at casting a cynical gaze over British and American pop culture with hilarious results. To his way of thinking, we're all in the same boat, and guess what - it's leaking! Bitchy yet pithy is a rare combination to pull off, but Mark Simpson has it in buckets."

THE QUEER MONTY PYTHON
Is there something they put in the water over there in England? How do those Brits manage to be so funny? This Simpson guy has to be one of the funniest Brits to hit these shores. My boyfriend thought I'd lost it when I was reading this - he had to go into the other room. Really inspired stuff - some of it was a bit more stretching intellectually than I bargained for, but I sort of liked that too.

FAMILY FRIENDLY
Mark Shaw's book is a real treat. His loving, poignant photographs show the real love, the real bonds, the real ties within the most famous family. The pictures of little Caroline and John are among my favorites. Caroline and John from all accounts have remained so natural, so wonderfully, refreshingly normal. I loved seeing these two children at play. Pennsylvania Avenue could have been Main Street. To their parents' credit, they grew up unaffected. This book shows it.

TOUCHING PHOTOGRAPHS
This book has beautiful photographs of the former first family. Congradulations to Mark Shaw for a wonderful job!!!!!! FOR QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSIONS ON JACKIE ONASSIS, PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT MellissaLD@aol.com. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

The John F. Kennedys : A Family Album.
Mark Shaw's photographs capture the idyllic moments of John, Jackie, Caroline and John Jr., whether at play in the White House or laughing together on a Cape Cod beach. The simple yet stunning photos of this famous foursome will be as familiar to you as your own family photo album.

To those who were there when John Kennedy was in the White House, this book will serve as a touching remembrance and to people who know about the Kennedys from just a historical standpoint, the photos and words will provide a more personal glimpse into the years that are commonly referred to as the Camelot era. Richard Reeves words are not overly sentimental but an accurate assessment of the life and times of this legendary family.

Overall, The John F. Kennedys: A Family Album, is a pleasant, yet sometimes sad journey looking back at what was considered the perfect family of two successful, stunning parents and their adorable children. Behind the photos, all was not perfect but Mark Shaw's camera didn't lie -- in the end, they were like any other family with problems but in-between they knew how to have fun and simply enjoy each others company, as is evident in many of Shaw's photos, especially those showing them at play at their home on Cape Cod.

Followers of the Kennedy's will no doubt enjoy this book, as will those who are interested in what life was like for a very public family who shared their private times with a talented photographer and with the world. If you like taking a look back in time, you will no doubt enjoy the journey Mark Shaw and Richard Reeves takes you on.

Junkyard Dogs and William Shakespeare

A great read for poets and dog-lovers!
A truly creative portrayal of Shakespearean poetry. Its unique depiction of canine is absolutely captivating!

Shakespeare and Dogs ?
Shakespeare Shakespeare Shakespeare and Junk Yard Dogs. Who would ever think to put the two of them together. Mark LaMonica did, thats who. Mr. Lamonica is a pure genius. I have been reading Shakespeare for about 5 years now. This is the most enjoyable book which includes Shakespeare. I am from Mr. LaMonica's home town of Brooklyn, NY. Besides Coney Island and "The Silver Hurst," Mr. LaMonica is one of the best things to "come outta" Brooklyn. I hope to see more of Mr. LaMonica's work as shown in the synopsis.

The Bard and the Junkyard Dog
"Ye who loves dogs and life and Shakespeare (or any one of those) may also feel fondness for a small book of photos that combines all three in a really original way. It's photographer/sculptor Mark Lamonica's tribute to an unsung part of Americana:junkyards and the valiant beasts who guard them." Los Angeles Times, December 28,1997

Highly recommended for all sales professionals
When I bought this book, I had just finished reading an installment Mr. McGlinchey's column Sound Sales (which a friend passed along to me) and thought he might have a pretty good idea of what it really takes to be successful in sales. I was pleasantly surprised (and very impressed) with the content of this book. This guy knows his stuff!! I have already started spreading the word to my company's sales force to buy this book. The most enjoyable and enlightening sections were Life Plan and Prospecting. This is worth investing of few hours to read.

A Clear Roadmap to Sales Success
Too many so-called sales instructional books are long on motivational material but short on strategies and tatics that are mandatory in a successful sales career. "Let's Put Some Lipstick on this Pig?" provides a clear road map to sales success that I haven't seen demonstrated in such an organized and succinct manner. The book includes sections on self focus and awareness, the stages of a buying cycle, effective sales tactics and real world examples of sales successes and failures. I would strongly recommend it to anyone that is determined to improve their sales profession.

Great ideas
As a sales manager I am always looking for sources of new ideas on how to improve my teams performance. Mark McGlinchey's "Let's Put Some Lipstick on This Pig" is just one of those sources. His chapters on Managing the Selling Cycle were excellent. His Five Zones of Selling have already proven to be extremely helpful to my reps in the field. In addition to the great ideas, Mr. McGlinchey's book also offers workbook type exercises with each chapter that allows the reader to personalize the information to their individual needs.

A wrenching story of love beyond death
Mark and his wife wanted a family for years and were filled with joy upon discovering they were expecting triplets - but when the dream was ruined, Mark faced an empty future. His container for collecting thoughts and feelings became gifts which included his friends and anyone who knew him. The Letter Box is a wrenching story of love beyond death and the recovery process, and is a highly recommended pick.

Moving
Picked up an autographed copy of this book for Mom for Christmas. I was bored later that day and started reading it and couldn't put it down. I cried and smiled and in the end, was inspired to create my own letter boxes for my loved ones. Get this book!

Very Moving...An amazing story!
Dian and Mark Button have written an extremely rewarding story.

The most amazing part is that it is true!

I believe books, like people, can come into our lives at certain times for a reason. This is a book that showed up and changed my life. It is a story that is as good as any intensely romantic novel. And.... the book offers a path that can change your life, and the lives of your ancestors, for generations to come.

Page by page, Diane and Mark share a story that is a keen, honest observation of their struggles, pain, joys and humanity. Although I read it in one sitting, it is a journey worth savoring because the final destination is worth it. I highly recommend it.

Soup IS good food!
The recipes make soup a "souper" meal, a gourmet delight as well as comfort food. The author's notes are particularly helpful for menu planning.

Fabulous!
I LOVE this cookbook. I'm a huge soup fan and I collect soup cookbooks. This is the best one I have ever seen. My favorite recipe is the marinated steak soup. An amazing combination of flavors you just have to experience to believe.

Souper Book!
Every soup I have made from this book has been wonderful. The combinations of flavors is incredible. I particular liked finding some of my favorite restaurant soups presented here. I attended a soup cooking class by Ray Overton and decided that I needed this book! It has been a great purchase.

Jimmie Foxx
Published in Hardcover by Scarecrow Press (02 July, 1998)
Author: Mark R. Millikin
Amazon base price: $39.50
Average review score:

The best book out there on Double X
A very informative book. It covers his childhood until his death. Mostly it covers his major league career of 20 years but covers his childhood in Maryland with lots of good details too. However, after his playing years (20+ years) is covered rarely quickly in about 20 pages. It was well written, but sometimes had too much game by game details and stats. Is this book worth the 40.00 price tag? No, and I'm a huge Foxx fan. Cut the price in half or wait for the softback edition to come out, and save yourself 25.00 bucks. A few pictures in the book that are average-nothing spectacular.

The best
This book has detail about Foxx that has never appeared anywhere before except possibly contemporary newspapers. Foxx's minor league career, largely ignored by previous biographers, is treated extensively. A compelling treatment of the life of a Hall of Famer who hasn't received as much publicity as many players of lesser talent.

The most definative book on Jimmie Foxx that I know of!!!
Mr. Millikin must of spent a great deal of time researching on Mr. Foxx. I know of no other book written on Mr. Foxx to be more accurate and true. If you are interested in Mr. Foxx, this is the only book that I would recommend. Great job, Mr. Millikin and I look forward to your next book.

The Last Trumpet

refreshing
really interesting read. rainey has a way of making something seem very fresh. his plots always seem original, even when they are not. great stories. great descriptions at times. what rainey is really master at, however, is the angle. he writes a story from a certain angle, making it very intersting. his stories are at their best the most refreshing stories i read in horror. very enjoyable

Non-derivative Mythos stories - masterful!
Rainey does what so many Cthulhu Mythos fans cannot - he takes the idea of unknowable horror, things that see us as nothing, and places that idea firmly in the modern day without doing a Lovecraft pastiche. His stories in this volume are all connected by locale, but range in horror from trapped heroes, doomed to a grisly fate, to a feisty futuristic heroine, fighting for survival after the stars have become right. Satisfying work, set in the Mythos, but without the standard trappings so many authors feel necessary to throw in (the million moldy volumes, rattling through the entire Old One pantheon, etc.). Highest recommendations. I've just ordered Balak, his novel, after finishing the collection, and can't wait for it to arrive!

Quality, not Buzzwords
If you love the Cthulhu Mythos for its sheer alienness & imcomprensability instead of for repetative buzzwords (you know them) then this is for you. With his own setting & minimal direct connection with the mythos, Rainey has expanded far beyond the traditional pastiches that make up the majority of material being offered. These stories show how truly brain-twisting impossible realities can affect people. Great reads!

Good and fun to read
As usual with Dummies books, this one is a good foundation for using the subject matter, and fun to read. However, too much time is spent on the differences between MAC OS whatever and OS X. Some of us didn't have a MAC before OS X and we don't care about the differences. We are coming from Windows and we want to know all we can about the MAC OS X and the UNIX underpinnings. That is what makes OS X exciting. I like this book, and found it very useful for specific questions that were not too complex, but there is too much about programs out there that cost too much that you can buy as add ons. I want to know how to use the OS and the features it came with more than what to spend even more money purchasing. Still, this book is very good and easier for many people than some of the other books out there.

Gotta have this one
This book is perfect for every Mac owner who wants guidance with the Mac's Jaguar OS. The authors keep things light, even entertaining and there's nothing missing. Check out the index pages and you'll see what I mean.

Make sure you try out the tips, they're the best part of the book!

Best Jaguar book I've read
I think this book will answer the questions and dole out the tips that anyone needs when they first run Jaguar. Read it from end to end like I did and the gurus might even learn a thing or 2. At last I am enjoying the iLife programs that I got with my system and things are running just like I like them in preferences. Invest the time to read it all and you'll appreciate this book like I do.

Southern Mystery at its Best
A great collection of short stories. Southern mysteries by some of the best mystery short story writers around. Each story is charming and entertaining. A wonderful American take on the English-type mystery. Enjoy!

Journey to the south for magnolias, mint julips...& murder
The southern mystery sub-genre is known for its "gentle" belles that solve crimes by being polite "steel magnolias" who "delicately" find the clues that identify the criminal. This collection pays homage to the regional mystery of the south as each tale provides that genteel background disguising a rock solid individual or two.

The fourteen tales are all well written as expected from some of the sub-genre's leading authors. Each story provides a full picture of the area to include powerful characterizations and many amusing scenarios. None of the stories are weak though some are incredibly excellent like those of Carolyn Hart and Elizabeth Daniel Squires. Fans of the Southern crime story will fully enjoy this anthology intended for leisure reading over several cold nights.

Harriet Klausner

A wonderful anthology of mysterious Southern "doings"
Jeffrey Marks' anthology "Magnolias and Mayhem" from Silver Dagger Press is another winner from that small publishing house. Some great short stories including authors such as Jeff Marks, Margaret Maron, Deborah Adams, Dean James and Elizabeth Daniels Squires. There are also separate stories by the self-styled "evil twins", [Barbara]Taylor McCafferty and Beverly Taylor Herald as well as Carolyn Hart, Jeff Abbot, Toni Kelner, etc. Fine stories for those who like their mysteries with a Southern touch, but with a healthy diversity in style and content.
