Let Scissorman into Your Life!
This was the first book by Mark Chadbourn I read - and it's fantastic. A truly dark, modern fable, rich with the author's own fantastic mythos (I've since read other Chadbourn novels). The plot never lets up and never lets you down and builds gradually to a really great ending. If you're into intelligent horror, you've got to get this book!

A must have book for all school libraries.
I'm writing this on behalf of my 6 year old son who is a New Jersey Devils fan and admirer of Scott Gomez. The book is informative and well written. We find out how old Scott was when he took up hockey(age 5)and how Scott worked his way up the league and eventually into the NHL. Scott Gomez is a genuine roll model for young people and especially young Hispanics who don't think other Hispanics played hockey(we are stereotypicaly boxers who don't know how to do anything else). I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the sport or is a new fan of hockey. What is really warm about this is how close Scott is to his dad, Carlos, and what a tight knit family they are.

Exploring the subjected male figure in films
For anyone who ever took a film course, we are taught via the writings of Laura Mulvey that it is the women who is subjected in film. Screening the Male provides the research conducted in examining the filp side of Mulvey's theory. This book is extremely valuable for anyone who is interested in how men are present in film.

Very Helpful and Simple to Follow
In over thirty years of memorizing Scripture, I have never come across such a simple and effective method of memorizing Scripture. One of the things I like best about the book's system for memorizing is that it allows a person to not only memorize the verses, but to also learn how to recall all of the verse references. This book is great for adults or teens. Children will need assistance, but the method's simplicity would make it appropriate for children.

Sea Marks
Today June 10th, 2000 I received a copy of the play Sea Marks and feel it is appropriate to review it this evening, being it is the eve of the author Gardner McKay's birthday. He has a very unique gift with the spoken and written word, a rare talent that must be expressed. I have never seen the play, but could picture every scene as the drama unfolded. The play is very deep, as deep as the sea, as it must be reread more than one time to capture the real meaning of the emotions he is expressing with pen in hand as a playwright. I feel that everyone can identify with the thoughts expressed by the main character Colm Primrose, especially people that like to write to get their ideas across...people that are too shy to speak but express their feeling better on paper...the feeling of panic he had when he finally was to make his mark on the world as a writer. Timothea Stiles, girlfriend of Colm, brings her influence to his writings of the sea and her admiration of him is clearly felt. I could feel her thoughts in the quote "I think I'm lonelier in the morning and feel lost again....I think the morning is the smartest time not to be alone." Anyone that has been single for after being married can identify with this...Timothea presented Colm, the Irish fisherman, a gift, that overwhelmed him, with a published book he had written of his sea sonnets..a way to make him immortal. This story will set its mark as a classic, like the book, "The Old Man and the Sea."

One boy's romance with space and space travel
Beautiful picture book, illustrations are mystical and romantic. Actually this is the most romantic and beautiful portrayal of space travel that I have ever seen. Rather than focusing on science and technology this is all about a boy's romance with space. The illustrator has done a wonderful job taking what is usually dark and cold looking (moon's surface, etc.) and making them look beautiful, haunting, and romantic. A man looks back on his boyhood fascination with all things space and recalls the night he watched the first moonwalk on television. We learn of the different ways he would daydream of space, making a scrapbook of space photos, etc. Then he watches the moonwalk on TV in the middle of the night and images of the moonwalk are shown. Later, while sleeping, he has a dream that he was with the astronauts on the moonwalk. It ends with more romantic musings from the now-adult man about what it is like on the moon and how the footprints those astronauts made will remain there for millions of years. A beautiful story. The point of the story is just about the boy's romantic notions of space flight and space in general. It is not heavier than that, there are no lessons to be learned, etc. but a nice story for any child who loves space and dreams of what space travel would be like.

One of the best dinosaur books of all time
SEARCHING FOR VELOCIRAPTOR, by Lowell Dingus and Mark Norell is a great dinosaur book for kids. I reviewed this book in the local paper (TRI-CITY HERALD) in July, 1997, and called it "a prime example of what a dinosaur book should be: good science and a good story, well told." Sharp photography and, in Velociraptor, a movie star (JURASSIC PARK) subject add to the overall appeal of the book. As a librarian, I appreciate SEARCHING FOR VELOCIRAPTOR.
