The book that started it all
The facts were obvious, the absurdity of the Warren Report were flaglanty flaunted, yet many people still never got the truth of JFK's murder. Mark Lane does not offer any final conclusions. He only offers more than enough evidence for two claims; 1.) that if Oswald killed JFK, he couldn't have done so alone, and 2.) the Warren Commission was a scam, dedicated to finding only Oswald's guilt, more concerned with "healing an ailing nation" than with presenting the facts.

As a lawyer, Lane is well-versed in the procedures of court. He presents Oswald's case and the Commission's case with more evidence than you can shake a stick at. It would be difficult to fault Lane for telling it like it is, and it would be even harder to refute his claims. Lane was the man who busted the conspiracy wide open, and while making no deffinite judgments on exactly who perpetrated the conspiracy, he does make a solid case that there was one.

LAne was personally involved with the case, and this works to his advantage in that he had access to a lot of facts. Unfortunately, he has also suffered the attacks of the media, and thus at times becomes a tad defensive. However, this bias is hardly noticeable and in no way detracts from the evidence.

Oswald was innocent, the Warren Commission lied or didn't look for the truth. I urge every American to read this book.

The original conspiracy theory and still one of the best.
Mark Lane is an attorney who took it upon himself, in the weeks following the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and his alleged killer Lee Harvey Oswald, to represent Oswald's mother and widow and to try to find any information he could to exonerate Oswald of the president's murder. What he found out is the basis of what I would consider the "original conspiracy theory" -- that Oswald, even if he did pull the trigger, did not act alone in killing JFK. You may have seen Oliver Stone's movie or read one of any number of theories about JFK's murder, ranging from the simple and plausible to the wildly complex. What sets Rush to Judgment apart is that Mark Lane doesn't set forth a theory of who he thinks did kill JFK. He doesn't even say that he is 100 percent sure Oswald didn't do it. What he does posit is that the Warren Commission appointed by President Johnson to investigate the assassination was too quick to finger Oswald as the lone assassin and that its investigations were badly handled, including ignoring evidence and witnesses that could have cast doubt on Oswald's guilt. Another thing that sets this book apart is that it was written only two years after JFK's death, and Mark Lane was thus able to attend many of the Warren Commission hearings personally and to interview many of the witnesses himself. Thus, his conclusions are not based on third-party testimony or hearsay, nor are they influenced by the perspectives of history and the "government conspiracy craze." I urge anyone who is interested in American history, government and/or politics to read this book. It's well-written, not difficult to read, and interesting. Lane presents his information in a scholarly and non-inflammatory manner, even though his conclusions are a powerful indictment of some of the most respected figures in our history. I guarantee that Rush to Judgment will raise many questions in your mind.

It's a Must for Anyone who wants to know about JFK's murder
Maybe this book will not tell who pulled the trigger. But Mark Lane shows two very important things. First, Oswald COULDN'T have been involved in the assassination of President JFK. Secondly, he shows that there were more people who participated in the assassination of Pres JFK.

This book has the historical consequence that the Warren Commission can't be trusted. As a reader of the Warren Commission Volumes, I testify to the fact that that investigation was a joke. Mark Lane shows conclusively, the failure of investigating who the real murderers were, and their failure in explaining why Oswald was the "murderer".

Concepts Explained Beautifully
This book provides the best introduction to the concepts behind Obj-Oriented Programming I've ever seen. It makes every other attempt to reach beginners that I've read (and there were several) seem ham-handed by comparison. After reading it, I didn't feel like I was a master, but I did feel that my basics were on totally solid ground, and I had ample confidence to go to advanced-level books.

I agree with some critics that a chapter on how to use MRJ would have been a good idea. Since I had CodeWarrior Pro already, I can't comment on the software that comes with the book.

Great for the beginner!
I have 3 "Java for beginners" books sitting in my shelf, but this is the one that really got me started. Easy to follow, yet not trivial or boring. Great intro on OO programming. For the beginner, I think this is the book to go with - not only on the Mac!

A terrific primer for beginning programmers
I've always been interested in Java and C programming, and had purchased several "beginners" books. This is one of the finest I've read. The book takes you by the hand and slowly introduces you to essential concepts as you go along, rather than throw the "vital" stuff and theory at you all at once (another beginner book called "Learn Java in 21 Days" does this, and was a very confusing book for a newbie like me - however, I am confident to return to "21 Days" now that I've read this book). The book is not all-encompassing, nor should it be. Rather, it is a perfect springboard to the rest of the Java "how-to" bookshelf. You do need your own compiler to create your own applets, but no book is going to give away fully functioning software. I recommend Metrowerks' "Discover Programming for the Macintosh" - it includes Java, C, C++ and Pascal compilers, all for around 80 bucks.

A slight improvement over book 1
Too darn much was happening in Earth Hive to allow it to develop to a really interesting extent. So this book was a relief to read in that it had one basic plotline, and therefore we got a lot more characterization of the main three characters -- old "doc holliday" Colonial Marine Wilks, the guy who isn't afraid to die and feels a need to wipe out the aliens. Then there's billie, who's lived her whole life in a mental institution since she was the sole civilian survivor of an alien attack on her world years ago. And the villian, General Thomas Spears, who thinks he's the messiah and is trying to tame aliens to go back to earth and kill the ones already there.

Unfortunately, spears is insane and paranoid, so anyone he doesn't like is bug food. This book was so much better written than the first it's incredible, but the author still has a problem with semi-colons. The biggest problem with this book, and the reason it doesn't rate very high, is because it really doesn't have anything to do with the aliens or the alien infestation, and nothing is accomplished to that end. It was an interesting sci-fi story to be sure, but it didn't give us anything essential.

This is an ok addition to the Aliens Saga, but don't expect much from it.

THIS IS GOOD, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS EARTH HIVE
The second book of the alien trilogy book series, Aliens:Nightmare Asylem, brings us once again with Wilks, Billie, and Bueller as they land on an unknown planet they read life forms from. This is the Nightmare Asylem. First off, i loved the emotion in this book. It definitely gave me more of that than book 1. Sure, action is great, but love and emotional characters are very touching. That's probably what i like best in this book. Book1:Action, Book2: Emotion. What I didn't like in this book had to be the villian, Thomas Spears, the leader of this "Nightmare Asylem", where he is breeding Aliens to use for his own personal conquest. He was evil, and you didn't like him for it. I found myself saying, "com'on! Die Spears!" And i was rooting for the good guys. That's great talent on the part of Steve Perry who wrote Spears' character so well. But still, in alien books and movies, aren't the main enemy's supposed to be, well, the Aliens? They werent in this book. When they did appear, I would sit more comfortably and get ready for some great action. When they were battling Spears, I found myself leaning down again cause his battle scenes weren't as fun to read as the Alien scenes. You should Buy this book though. It's a great follow up, even though it doesn't quite match up with it's book 1 counterpart. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Part II of the first 3 books by Perry
Another great book written by Perry. In this one, a military glutton has plans to make his own army of Xenomorphs to reclaim earth. On his military installment (the nightmare asylum) the two characters from the first book end up fighting for the lives again. They are not just fighting the aliens that the madman is "making", but also fighting his soilders as well. This was a great book as a sequel to Earth Hive, and should be read by fans of the books.

Not a particularly good choice for a course textbook.....
This was the assigned text for my first-year physics course. The book basically consists of equations to be memorized and examples of how to plug numbers into those equations. There is minimal explanation, and it leaves any student unprepared for any kind of higher year physics course, without any idea of how these equations actually came about. Also, it was embarassing to walk around campus with such a cheesy attempt at cover art that is trying to make physics look "hip".

An excellent text and reference
I originally found this book in a local library while I was looking for a text to help my daughter with her homework. I found it to be extremely well written with clear language and examples that were well matched to the concepts being explained. I would recommend it as a reference for all students and anyone who needs to refresh concepts in general Physics topics.

An excellent book for a particular audience
This is an excellent book for a high school level physics course or a less than rigorous Physics I course at the college level. It contains no math beyond algebra/trig. For a more rigorous treatment, the book to get is the Serway/Beichner text.

The only one in its class, but...
Interesting that this is the only book besides the Boutell book that discusses C/C++ programming specifically for CGI. But there are many errors in the book that leaves me wondering if it would do more harm than good to use it. It has an emphasis on writing routines that could be better written in a scripting language: no templates or run time typing is used making the C++ code approach pretty out of date. It was a good try and sorely needed in the industry, but alas, it needs competition.

Covers the fundamentals of CGI with C/C++ well...
...but, for one thing, for the price, this book should come with a CD with all the code...it's a huge pain to type all that is given. Also, the C++ classes (of most concern to me) seem to be overly complex, theres a whole load of member functions to replace the amersands in a query string with newlines, and a bunch of other stuff, where a couple of strtok(); functions would have done the job.

The main strength of this book is that it teaches you the mechanics of how a compiled C/C++ program for CGI works. The string parsing doesn't take much ingenuity either, you just have to know the format.

It's very good, considering the situation
Actually, this book is a 4 as it could be better written. However! Having considered the fact that there really isn't another book on CGI with C, I give it a 5, just to stress that there is more than one way in which a book may be valuable.

The book is helpful if you want to learn how C/C++ fits into writing CGI ends to http requests. It is significantly better than to hack through HOWTO or MAN-style papers, believe me. A word about some of the criticisms below. There are some errors--that is true. However, all C++-related criticism is hogwash. This book is not about C++, but about CGI proggies, that tend to be rather simple. Also, the idea that writing template- and rtti-less C++ code is somehow 'outdated' or 'inferior' is pretty silly and can only come from someone who isn't very sure about C++ himself. Again, the stress is on CGI, if you want a book about large-scale C++ design and development, look elswhere. CGI thingies aren't distributed portfolio management systems. One, in my opinion, real weakness of this book is its price. I'd say, 24.95 would be about right. I woudln't be surprised if it were from Wiley, but from PH it's a bit on the wild side.

Outdated, but good introduction
It helped me as a lay person to get some insight into genetics and genetic technology. I knew nothing about it before that book and was quite surprised how far they already are. It shows genetic principles and many methods to operate on genes to learn more or to make them do what we want. But remember: It's totally outdated. Missing are a presentation how far genetic engeneering did already change the world. It's not just a few plants in a test lab, but tens of thousands of changed plants and microbes. DNA research is no more isolated from it's application. Whatever they discover is soon built into nature.

A must for those wanting to grasp modern molecular biology.
This book is actually a readable text explaining many of the pioneering methods of molecular biology. It does get quite technical, but it does a fairly good job explaining difficult concepts with the help of illustrations. I originally used this book as a text, and keep it now as a reference when I need to recall details about a technique. For those without any science background, it may be a challenge, but if you have the interest, it would be a lot of fun. The only bad thing about the book is that it really needs to be updated, although I should note that most of the techniques described are in current use with only slight modifications.

It is exceptionally outstanding book .
The book describes the most advanced subject of recombinant DNA technology in a very simple and fascinating way.

A good book to begin with LDAP
A lot of information about Netscape SDK-LDAP and Michigan University. API documentation is clear, good examples in C and some examples in Shell or Perl (using Netscape LDAP tools, not Perl LDAP package) But you haven't got any info about Java and Perl Package !

Good introductory book, but could be much better
This book has the distinction of being written by the two guys who probably know more about LDAP than anyone else. Accordingly, you might expect a great deal of solid technical material about how LDAP works. What this book instead delivers is a 462-page description of the University of Michigan LDAP API routines.

Don't get me wrong-- the documentation is useful, but the examples are all extremely simplistic, and many of them won't even compile or run if you type them in verbatim.

If you need to write LDAP-enabled softare, this is about your only choice. For simple applications, this will probably teach you everything you need. If you want to write a server, or a real LDAP DUA or ADUA, this book will get you started, but no more.

Enough To Get Started
This book contains all of the necessary information to write an LDAP application using the C programming language. This book covers the basics of LDAP directories, available LDAP libraries, and steps you through the basic LDAP API calls.

Both the University of Michigan and Netscape libraries are covered, and the advantages/disadvantages of each. This book also breifly explains command line utilities, such as ldapsearch, that are useful for testing and debugging applications.

The book contains a useful reference of the core LDAP APIs that I keep handy when I am programming.

Another section I found useful pertains to LDAP and threading in applications. The threading section covers information that is very important when developing server applications using LDAP.

Pales in comparison to the other Antonelli books
This 4th book in the Antonelli series was quite a disappointment. The first 3 books were well written with tight, interesting plots and subplots. Half way through this one, I had to force myself to continue. The characters were not well fleshed out, one of the "twists" in the story was very obvious from the beginning and overall it was a confusing and muddled tale. Near the end of the book, I found myself looking longingly at the stack of other books that I have available to read and I wound up scanning the last third of The Legacy just to finish it off. I guess all authors have a clunker now and then. I hope this was Mr. Buffa's misfire and that future books in this series will be as entertaining as the first 3 were.

A bland story about the murder of a prominent politician.
Joseph Antonelli, criminal defense attorney extraordinaire, is back in D. W. Buffa's fourth legal thriller, "The Legacy." Unlike Buffa's previous efforts, this novel never comes to life. It is a slow-moving and cliché-ridden look at the corrupt practices of wealthy and amoral wheeler-dealers and politicians.

In this novel, Antonelli leaves Portland, Oregon, and travels to San Francisco to defend Jamaal Washington. Washington is a young black man accused of gunning down United States Senator Jeremy Fullerton during a robbery. Fullerton was a ruthless and ambitious politician who had many enemies. Antonelli is certain that Fullerton's death was no robbery; he is convinced that a political enemy assassinated the Senator. Antonelli is determined to free the likeable Jamaal, a soft-spoken pre-med student who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Buffa writes this book as if he were doing a painting-by-numbers. He uses plot devices that we have seen too many times before. Many authors have written more compellingly about political charlatans who pretend to be altruistic, but who are really self-serving and corrupt.

Antonelli's character is strangely lifeless, as is his love interest, Marissa. Neither the courtroom scenes nor the twist at the end can save "The Legacy" from being a run-of-the-mill legal thriller that is not up to Buffa's usually high standards.

exciting legal thriller
In San Francisco, someone assassinates US Senator Jeremy Fullerton. The police spot a young black fleeing the scene. They fire, wound, and arrest Jamaal Washington for killing Fullerton.

Surprisingly, without any obvious let alone remote connection to the accused, elderly local lawyer Albert Craven brings in Portland, Oregon attorney Joseph Antonelli to defend Jamaal. After hearing Jamaal's story on why he was there and how he ended up with the Senator's wallet, Joseph thinks the youngster is an easy fall guy taking the rap for a devious soul. Joseph quickly learns that Fullerton had presidential aspirations and built a cadre of cronies and supporters in the Bay area. A former KGB agent Andrei Bogdonovitch informs Joseph he has damaging information on the senator linking him to his former Soviet employer, but the informant is killed with an office bomb. The trial looks hopeless for the defense unless Joseph can pull off a last second Perry Mason-like miracle.

LEGACY starts off as an incredible legal thriller, but loses steam when it jumps the tracks into a conspiracy tale. The story line is at its best when Joseph investigates the senator and during the trial. The personal side of Joseph that frequents the plot slows down the story line while leaving the attorney not behaving as expected. Though the eyes of the world will pass JUDGMENT that Joseph is a strong egg, the exciting tale seems just off kilter.

A bit dated but still pretty good
There are only a handful of Symbian books available yet, and this one is the best of them. It is not a tutorial but a fairly good reference. It does a good job of explaining concepts as well, for instance I really like the discussion of descriptors in chapter 5.

Those who have no Symbian background will find this book difficult (not because the book is badly written, but because Symbian is a very different platform). I recommend that beginners read documentation and whitepapers available at Symbian's website, take an introductory class and then buy this book for reference. Dont try to learn Symbian programming from this book. You'll be disappointed.

I also think that the authors should revisit and work on a new edition of this useful book. There has been an addition of many new topics since R5, that require good reference material - authors could do the Symbian community a favor by providing that much needed reference material.

This book deserves 3.5 stars now - and if the authors release a new edition, it will get 5 stars from me.

Excellent overview of Symbian/EPOC platform
As an introduction to programming on the Symbian platform this book is excellent. If you require detailed information on C++ EPOC programming then it may appear a bit sparse. You can get the required information from Symbian/Psion directly. If you wish to start programming on this platform then this is a great introduction. After reading it you will be able to make the most of the detailed information from Symbian themselves.

A Fantastic Achievement by Martin
First, I should state that I know the author. I better say that in case anyone believes my guilty of bias. However, it must be realised that this book is an official Symbian publication, and as such is the definitive reference book on programming for EPOC devices. Personally I think Martin has done a remarkable job putting all this together. As an ex-Symbian employee I have not done any coding since the early development days of the Psion Series 5.

Recently I have needed to get up to date and get coding again. On a brand new PC, with no EPOC utilities on it, with the help of this book and its accompanying CD (which contains ALL of the official Symbian Software Development Kits), I had genuine freshly-compiled programs running on my Psion Series 5mx PDA within MINUTES. Martins writing style is very accessible, and explains the advanced concepts behind EPOC in a manner in which anyone can quickly understand them.

As an aside, the book is deliberately written so that it does NOT have to be read sitting in front of a computer. As a result, this book makes a fantastic tutorial, as it can be read on the train, in the bath, anywhere when you might have a few minutes spare.

A "must buy" for any individual or company considering programming in C++ any EPOC devices (which will in the near future include both PDA's and mobile phones). Well done Martin!

Reach Your Financial Goals Doing What You Love
I recommend "The Millionaire Course" to any one who has a dream of making money doing what they love. The keys Marc Allen suggest are truly guidelines to success. As a single parent and business owner, my favorite and most helpful affirmation, "in an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way", has helped me stay focused on what is important in my business and personal life while staying true to my vision. The book is a wondeful guide for anyone who has thought about creating their own socially responsible business or for seasoned business owners. With clear, simple and practical ways, Marc Allen shows you how to fulfill your hightest personal, business and finacial goals.

Modern Version of Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich"
Everyone should immediately buy this book. Marc Allen sets out in a very clear fashion exactly what you need to know and do to live the life of your dreams. He gives you very specific tools that you can use immediately to improve your life and achieve success.

One of the best parts of the books is the section on how to eliminate your doubts and fears. This is very important since the reason most people don't succeed is based on their fears and doubts that they can be successful.

This book is a modern version of Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich." Marc Allen's examples of how these steps have made him successful were very helpful.

A great book!!! I also strongly recommend Brian Tracy's book called "Goals."

Great Book To Live Your Dreams and Make Tons of Money
Everybody should immediately buy this book. Marc Allen sets out the specific steps that you need to take to live the life of your dreams. It's a modern day version of Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich." He describes very clearly how you need to specifically figure out your ideal life and he shows you what steps you need to take to live your ideal life.

One of the strongest parts of the book is that he specifically explains how anyone can overcome their fears and doubts about success. This is so critical because most people don't succeed as a result of their fears and doubts that they can't actually be successful.

It's a book that will solidly put you on the path to realizing your goals and dreams, including becoming a milliionaire.

I would also strongly recommend Brian Tracy's book, "Goals."
