Not for dummies.
I am new to the internet so I needed a book written for a dummy. This book was not as easy for me to understand as some of the other books I checked out from the library. I got lost and fell asleep.

Excellent Introduction to the Internet
This book can take you from ground zero to up and running your own web page through its clear consise graphics and explanations. There are also plenty of easy-to-follow exercises that put the subject matter to use. I learned more in less time than with any other book I have seen on the subject

Its nothing special
Although many of the quotes were quite funny, notably Neil Armstrong, and some ancient leaders wiith no last names, the rest of the book just did not match them in value and funny factor. The laugh-per-page factor was lower than the likes of Dave Barry and George Carlin. If you want to read hilarious books, pick up Barry's "Dave Barry Slept Here" and Carlin's "Brain Droppings".

This book is a screem. Breakthrough humor. Mel Brooks-ish!
If you like classic humor like Mel Brooks & Carl Reiner's 2000 Year Old Man, you'll love this. Political junkies will love it. Anyone who likes to laugh out loud should get this book. What the hell, only $8! -EIS

Not for 4-year olds even though it says so!
I was really disappointed in this book when I received it. Based on what I'd read, it seemed like the right book to teach my 4-year-old son about saying you're sorry, admitting when you did something wrong, etc. The details section even says this book is good for kids 4-8. However, the lessons taught in this book deal with a far more sophisticaeted, responsible world than that of a 4-year-old. For example, one page deals with a bat who is supposed to stay home and take care of his baby sister while his mother goes out. His friends ask the bat to come outside and play and the bat has to decide whether to keep his promise to his mom and be responsible or go play. A totally inappropriate story for a 4-year old who should never responsible for another child. In addition, in a story about respect for others' property, one of the possible answers is "'Cool' means you never have to say you're hairy." This answer is NOT something my 4-year-old would ever understand and is just one example of answers which are confusing (and meaningless) to 4-year olds. I intend to return this book.

fun for both kids and parents
My six year old loves this book and I like it because it shows common things kids might do (but done by cute animals--lying, being nice to others, cheating, etc.) with funny multiple choices and hidden letters in the pictures. Lots of good puns. (Pig plays at grandma's, before he leaves he should a. pick up toys, b. tweeze his snout hairs or c. tell grandma she lives in a pigsty.) Cute pictures too.

An Illustrated Colour Text: Ophthalmology
This book is being used in a PA program at a university. Students requested the book after reviewing different publications to be used as texts. It is concise, facutally illustrated, and easy to understand.

PROBABLY THE BEST EYE TEXT EVER WRITTEN
I have over twenty general ophthalmology texts in my personal library and this one caught my eye in the book shop due to it's kaleidoscopic trippy cover. The content, illustrations and general "feel" of the book are exceptional. Mr Bowling clearly commands encyclopedic knowledge of eye disease, and a vast amount of research was undertaken to make the book fully up to date and prevent it from "getting stale". I firmly urge anyone in the field of ophthalmology to purchase this tome, and even lay-people; after-all, there are almost twice as many eyes as there are human beings on earth.

International Order and Individual Liberty: Effects of War and Peace on the Development of Governments

interesting and well-written
The book offers a different and intriguing take on the democratic peace controversy, arguing that much of the correlation between democracy and peace in international politics can be explained by peace facilitating democracy. For example, the oldest and most stable democracies, such as America, Britain, and Switzerland, were able to carve out a zone of relative peace and safety for themselves denied to most states situated in vulnerable positions on the plains of Europe and Asia. Vulnerable states were much more apt to succumb to authoritarianism in order to cope with their situation. After World War Two, stable democracy spread to many other states only because an American-led structure of security and trade (the "Pax Americana") came to dominate the international system.

The book is well-written and provides an effective critique of some ambitious contemporary claims that the spread of democracy will in itself end all war. Still, one wonders how powerful the author's central claim - that peace is a major factor in facilitating democracy - holds across the universe of cases in international politics. The author admits that the modern state of Israel is a significant exception to the rule, and there is little in the way of detailed examination of developing states and how they effect the thesis.

Overall, the book is very interesting, though possibly too ambitious. There is a chapter posted on the book's official website, if you'd like a sample before you buy it.

New Perspective on the "Democratic Peace"
International Order and Individual Liberty offers a critical examination of one of the most popular ideas among contemporary political scientists: that "democracies do not go to war with one another." According to the school of the "democratic peace," the long peace between democratic states since 1945 has demonstrated that democratic norms and institutions help states in the international system transcend traditional concerns about power-seeking and security, allowing for the possibility of a "perpetual peace" between democratic states.
However, there is another explanation for the long peace between democracies: reverse causation. That is, the current peaceful international order (created by such factors as U.S. hegemony, the solidification of borders, economic growth, and the nuclear revolution) has made it possible for liberal democracy to flourish in many countries which have found it difficult or impossible to build and maintain free institutions in previous eras of international violence and instability. Only states which are relatively secure -- politically, militarily, economically -- can afford to have free, pluralistic societies; in the absence of this security, states are much more likely to adopt, maintain, or revert to centralized, coercive authority structures.
The book outlines in detail the alternative theoretical perspective of peace facilitating democracy, and applies this theoretical perspective to a number of historical case studies. The case studies include an examination of the American Revolution, French Revolution, the development of Germany in the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries, and modern Israel. The book concludes with an overall analysis of the nature and causes of the contemporary peace between democracies, and the implications for U.S. foreign policy.

Great interactive CD
The interactive CD includes websites, video clips, audio clips, and tests, that increase interest in the subject matter. It's fun.

Interpersonally...
...I read this book for an undergraduate class and thought it was very good. One problem-- the final chapter was too brief, they should have split it into three like the previous edition.

An intriguing look at an overlooked institution
Dr. Dalhouse has provided those interested in the history of Christian fundamentalism with an intriguing, outsider's look at Bob Jones University. He is correct when he states that the role of BJU in fundamentalist history has been largely overlooked and minimized by secular historians. This work helps to correct that oversight. Dr. Dalhouse's study is quite even-handed, especially when compared with typical comments and reviews of BJU. Dalhouse probes some of the paradoxes in the BJU worldview, but at times he overly magnifies these issues. Four stars for Dalhouse's book. Must reading for anyone interested in understanding Bob Jones University.

Even-handed and stimulating
Dalhouse has done a service to the history of Fundamentalist Christianity in this book. For whatever reasons, the Joneses and Bob Jones University have been routinely overlooked by the historians of fundamentalism, making Island a nearly unique study. For a second look at BJU, scholars and interested readers should take note of Daniel L. Turner's Standing Without Apology. This more recent history of BJU, when paired with Dalhouse's book, give a thorough look at a most unique Christian educational institution.

A Decent Book
Not a great book but well written. I think the author should speak to his audience in a clear and more concise fashion

The Best of its Kind
Dr. Washofsky outlines contemporary Reform Jewish practice within the context of Jewish tradition. His explanations are clear and informative, the topics covered nearly exhaustive. This work far exceeds any other attempts to define a Reform Jewish practice thus far. This is a "must have" for every Reform household.

Another Cute Kipper Book
Like the other Kipper books this one is easy to read and the illustrations are great. It's a bit "busier" than some of the authors earlier works and lacks the simplicity of the earliest stories. I've also found a companion sticker style activity book which is nice but the stickers are not movable from page to page.

Kipper gets mixed up!
I got this book for my son in preparation for his second birthday and he loves it! I't teaches children (and parents) about the importance of being organized, but it also teaches the importance of friends. I love the illustrations and most of the language. My one criticism of the book is that one part is particularly confusing for kids (when Kipper himself is confused about his birthday, so I guess that's appropriate).

Nothing new
Thic book is adequate for emergency medical information, but is not a good quick reference in the midst of a true emergency. In most things, it is quite lacking, and other emergency "handbooks" seem to be more user and cost-friendly. Although this book is part of my library, I found little use for it when I worked as an emergency small animal veterinarian.
