A ribald Huck Finn for the 'crikits'
Seelye's tongue-in-cheek rewriting of Twain's classic is a joy to read, in no small part because his Huck as engaging as Twain's. Seelye's project is largely critical discourse--as Huck's introduction to this edition makes clear--but of the best sort. In allowing "the real Huck" to write his own book, Seelye compels us to see the beauty of Twain's. Seelye's Huck cusses and fantasizes in ways that seem natural to readers today but that would have shocked readers in Twain's day. But if his characters are more realistic than Twain's, we see in Seelye's ending just why Twain was compelled to compose such a frustrating close for his novel. A book for all fans of Twain, or Huck. See Seelye's _The Kid_ for a different take on similar themes, Huck Finn and Jim in the Territory.

I recently read TLW and it was really good.It dealt with things I was going through for an example peer pressure. It helped for me to see why I needed to stay a virgin and how to stay.It also explained why;for God ,your future mate, and yourself. It is one of the best books I've read.God bless whoever reads and follows this book. For in the bible God tells us to save ourself for our mates.God bless you all.

The DEFINITIVE introduction to baseball card collecting!
Al Rosen is one of the most brash and self promoting dealers in the world. He certainly doesn't need to write a book to pay the rent, but fortunately he did. This book, although somewhat dated, is an essential read for anyone considering diving into the collecting of baseball cards. A quick and interesting read that you will find guiding you from beginning to advanced collecting. His insights on the trends of card grading and Tiffany sets are the only areas that where he has seemed to be proved wrong (for the time being, at least). His "Mr. Mint's Maxim's" are rules to live by before making any card purchases. Amongst all the books on baseball cards, this one truly is a "gem"!

Truman Era Never Been So Exhilerating
The Truman Years is an insightful, surprisingly readable analysis of a defining era in American political history. Byrnes has certainly expended considerable effort in bringing the Cold War to students of history in an entertaining yet scholarly fashion. Even those readers not receiving academic credit will enjoy this fascinating study.

An iconoclastic, and highly recommended study
The Truth Behind The Christ Myth: The Redemption Of The Peacock Angel by Mark Amaru Pinkham, offers the original, iconoclastic hypothesis that the origins of belief in Jesus Christ lie in a Son of God myth from India concerning Murrugan, the Peacock angel. Numerous similarities in the belief are historically traced, as well as other circumstantial evidence that Murrugan's legend influenced the story told and believed by the first Christians. Pinkham goes even further to provocatively propose that the Peacock angel is indeed a real entity, and is known under other names in different cultures -- perhaps even by the stigmatized name "Lucifer" in the West, though his ultimate role is surely far different from the unmitigated wickedness that Western tradition has been known to ascribe the chief of the fallen angels. A welcome and original contribution to metaphysical studies, The Truth Behind The Christ Myth is an iconoclastic, and highly recommended study blending historical evidence and new age thinking.

Turning Love into a Gift
The collection that the Masons have built out of a love of art, craftmanship and wood turns into a real gift to those who do not have the luxury to study these pieces first-hand. The photos of their home shows that their attraction with creation is not limited to wood but to light, paintings and melding life with art.
The photos display the pieces so well that some just seem to glow and brighten on the page. It makes it difficult to look at a tree or salad bowl without imagining the possiblities.

Valuable book for workers in the field of phase unwrapping
This book is a very specialized book and is of little interest to most readers, but for readers working in the field of phase unwrapping this book is a must. This book gives methods of solving phase unwrapping problems. Four path-following and four minimum-norm techniques are described. A detailed analysis is presented for each algorithm. The distinctive feature of each algorithm is given and the algorithms are ranked in terms of their execution times, memory requirements, and successes and failures on the phase unwrapping examples. Guidelines are given for deciding which algorithm applies to a given problem. A suite of C language programs and routines comprising over 6000 lines of source code that implement the ideas and algorithms discussed in the book, and data sets, can be downloaded from the Wiley FTP site.

Desert Backpacking
I thought this book was excellent. The style of the writing is easy to read and the subject matter was practical and comprehensive. The pictures, charts and graphics were superb, too. I had trouble putting the book down because it was so interesting. The book covers many areas that you may not think about until you get out in the desert. I have already bought an extra copy to give as a gift.
