Mail Order Millions
This was the very first book I ever read on mail order and direct marketing. Before this book I knew nothing about direct marketing- boy have I come a long way!

This book sparked an interest and will probably always remain one of my favorites. It is a great book for beginners- covering such areas as product selection with a list of wholesalers and exporters, copywriting, mail order primer, and some solid direct marketing principles.

If you're a beginner, you can't beat this book for learning. Although some of it is a little outdated, the principles Mark teaches are timeless, and would be a great stepping stone into the world of mail order.

History of the United States to 1877
This book is packed with knowledge. American Nation is great for the classroom environment. This book has great stories under "American Lives," which talk about great Americans. Some of which are George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams to name a few. There are many colorful and well-illustrated pictures. This book explains in depth the great events of the United States up until 1877. Pay attention though because this book jumps around with the dates on the different subject areas, but that is so the same subject is covered in one section. This is a fantastic book for a College course. John A Garraty and Mark C. Carnes have done their homework and have put forth one of the best Social Science books I have ever seen.

Amish Cooking Made Easy
What a great cookbook! The recipes are easy to understand. Recipes vary from dinner entrees, breads, soups, desserts and candies to canning, making juice from grapes and much more. It contains helpful hints throughout. This would make a great gift for all! There's a recipe for making taffy that would be lots of fun for children, too. Take a look and see for yourself.

A good read but not a complete account of ...
The book is nicely written and is informative. It starts with a brief history of Sikhs, the long drawn roots of the movement, how it turned into terrorism, to the army operation and its aftermath. As pointed out in the book political leadership of the time was more to blame - Government did "too much too late". Too much because they acted too late which closed all the moderate options. Too late because a movement of small issues was allowed to grow into terrorism. The struggle for power and its wrath, once again, is well established. The dastardly act of few in power after the assassination of Mrs. Gandhi is brought out without wavering. And how the government machinery stood observer to inhuman killing of innocent people. The book carefully brings out controversial accounts, but not consistently. The book fails to paint the right picture of extent of terrorism - loots, killing of individuals, sects and groups, and attacks on government machinery with bombs and arms supplied from outside the country. Things can be argued one way or the other about the army operation. Everything is fair in love and war! The fact remains that army operation was inevitable and the Congress party, SGPC and Akali Dal were all equally responsible. While the first one created the problem, the other two supported and all the three used the propagators apart from the outside worlds, which helped in kind and cash both.

I will have to say that it is not a complete account of the movement. It fails to account for all the forces that supported the movement, financial, political and moral. Origin of Sikhs is not mentioned at all.

A Small Book With Big Information
The book is small but is packed full of a lot of useful information. Kerr describes diverse aspects of the ancient Egyptian civilization featuring such topics as the division and farming of their land, the typical Egyptian family life, their houses and homes, the pharaoh's duties and his court, entertainment, religious beliefs including the afterlife, government and war, and the last Egyptian pyramid built. The inclusion of a concise description of the life of men, women, and children was a nice aspect of the book. Kerr explains that two of the main resons we know so much about life in ancient Egypt is because of the ancient Egyptian artifacts and writings of people who traveled through Egypt at that time. She also briefly explains techniques modern archaeologists use to try to preserve what remains of ancient Egypt. All of the colorful illustrations are clearly explained with small captions and complement the information presented in the easy to read text. The table of contents at the beginning and a glossary of fourteen useful words along with an index at the end are all included in the book. These useful tools help the reader to efficiently and effectively navigate the book. This is a great book with a wide variety of useful information and is written concisely using easy to read language. It would be an excellent resource to help students begin their studies about the ancient Egyptian civilization and possibly interest them into exploring more.

What a stunner!!!
This book is difficult but so marvelous that it is well worth the effort required. If you are wed to the idea of so-help-me-God facts, this book isn't for you. It is full of magic and mystery and sheer out-and-out glorius poetry.

It is full of moonlight, spiderwebs and golden raintrees. If this book were visual art it would be a William Morris wallpaper.

It is full of the sadness and glory of the Sirens chapter of Ulysses. It has the heartbreaking beauty of nostalgia . It has the life affirming strangeness of Moby-Dick. It is like a thousand other things and utterly itself.

Illustrated text book brings interesting period to life.
This title served well my research on the historical origins of the Arthurian myths. This title focused on the main enemies of Arthur in the fifth century, but it also covered later periods up to just before the Norman conquest.

What I like about the Osprey military books is how they provide a good ballace of text and illustration. This conveys information in a way which is both efficient and entertaining. This is far preferable to books which offer plenty of text but lack sufficient illustrations to show what the text is talking about; it is also far preferable to books which contain plenty of illustrations but lack sufficient text to explain them. My only complaint is that the photographs of manuscript illustations and archaeological artifacts are printed in black & white, so the reader misses much of the spectacular color and detail of this wonderful Anglo-Saxon art. Of course, printing everything in color will make a book more expensive, but it still may be worth doing. The great thing about all the Opsprey titles, though, is that each has a section in the middle made up of beautiful full color illustrations which portray the appearance and activities of the troops under study.
