It's not practical at all, more of a cartoon view of hair
I returned it. There is some visual humor in it, but you can pretty much forget about doing any of the braids enclosed. It is not a practical look at braiding for a young woman's lifestyle.

It may however, have a use in future Star Wars films.

For trivia lovers only
I bought this book to learn how NHL hockey is played. I read the Complete Idiot's Guide Football and found it to be a very well organized, comprehensive description of the game. This book about hockey is nothing at all like that. If you don't know how hockey is played, you won't be any smarter after reading this. There are 298 pages of history and only 18 or 19 pages on the rules. You will learn what icing and offside penalties are and which way players are not allowed to hit each other with the stick and that's about it. Nothing at all about strategy and tactics and no glossary of terms. I was disappointed. If you want to learn the basics of hockey, look elsewhere.

Confessions of a young exile

a 60's perspective from a 60's draft resister
Fior those born after 1975 who have no real grasp, in the gutt, of the wrenching choices young American males often made when they faced the draft, and sometimes went off to Canada, this is as good a book as one can find. It's contemporary relevance is quite limited, except as a window onto the past. Mark Satin is a prolific writer whose more recent books are extraordinary in their grasp of the underlying politics of the American scene and psyche. But this book, even with its special place as a valuable memoir, has limited value beyond historial reflection by the reader.

The best part about this book is its beautiful binding.
This book does a very poor job of teaching polymer chemistry. Coverage of most topics is too brief and includes too many mistakes. However, the book is organized in an interesting way, and topics that aren't included in most polymer chemistry books are mentioned briefly -- for example interesting polymer properties such as flame retardancy. In this sense, the book might get students excited about polymer science.

Creating Java Beans: Components for Distributed Applications
Published in Paperback by Morgan Kaufmann (September, 1997)
Author: Mark Watson
Amazon base price: $36.00

Missing concepts
The auther does provide some nice examples of Java Beans - just about half of the book consists of program listings.

Unfortunately, he has absolutely no concept whatsoever concerning just WHAT he wants to tell the reader, or HOW he wants to make himself clear.

After having read the first fifty pages (called "introduction" by the author), you may well ask yourself one question: "Excuse me? What was this all about?"

Do yourself a favor, and read J.Feghhi's grossly mistitled book "Web Developer's Guide to Java Beans" instead - an excellent introduction to beans programming, and a terrific comparison between Beans, DCOM, and CORBA.

McFarlane's foray into the world of The Crow
This book collects issues 7 - 10 and 4 of Todd McFarlane's short-lived Crow series. McFarlane bought the rights to the Crow, but the comic was cancelled after issue 10, because nobody really liked it. Jon J Muth does have a writing talent, unfortunately somebody made the mistake of trying to continue Eric Draven's story, rather than beginning anew.

If you decide to buy this book, do so only for the art, and not for the storyline. It's a shame, considering the vast talents McFarlane has at his disposal

The kids seemed like they were from a different time.
I am twelve years old and I liked the technical stuff. It was kind of cool but the kids seemed like they were from the Beaver Cleaver days. They did not seem modern or like my friends. I think my six year old brother would like this book but he can't read well enough to read it.

Dark Legacy
Published in Paperback by Winston-Derek Pub (April, 1996)
Author: Mark Anthony Kostrubala
Amazon base price: $7.95
Average review score:

Great premise lacks substance
Hitler makes a pact with the devil for world domination. Excellent premise. It's the execution that's lacking. The first few chapters are great. Hitler is the main character. The author did his historical research.

After Hitler commits suicide (which is not a spoiler because it's historical fact) the novel shifts to four treasure hunters. They are a likable bunch.

However, the reader is left with a question: What does this all have to do with Hitler? We are finally told that in the last chapter.

The last chapter is rushed and far-fetched. It is a shame because the story was very enjoyable. This book can be read in a day or two.

Yes, this story is entertaining but the ending has absolutely no bite.

Sadomasochistic novel that lacks compelling characters
This novel chronicles the capture, enslavement, and ultimate sexual submission of its heroine. Unfortunately, the author doesn't get inside her head enough for us to sense her gradual change from free woman to willing slave, so there's no psychological aspect to this book, just a series of sadistic scenes. As time goes on, we're told that she actually likes what's happening to her, but the author never makes this plausible by letting us know what makes her tick.

The dominant, male characters aren't portrayed so we can understand or like them, either. The scenes in the novel are well enough written, but no hotter than scenes in countless novels that don't have the flaws of this one. It isn't trying to be a deep psychological novel, and shouldn't be graded as one, but Lizbeth Dusseau and N.T. Morley have done better jobs with the s/m aspects, and if the capture & enslavement aspect is what floats your boat, there are countless romance novels on the market that handle that plot more believably. I give the book 2 stars instead of 1 mostly because the prose is better than some porn.

Good content - suffers from too many errors
I wish the proof readers of the book would have done a better job. The potential to be an excellent piece of work on the topic is lost by the numerous errors in several chapters.
