This book was okay. It was kind of unrealistic, though. First, Alyssa decides to change her name to Blister for no reason, then she decides to steal her dad's girlfriend's clothes. It was weird. I wouldn't spend my money on it.

The Blisters Review
I loved this book. It is very interesting. It was kind of boaring in the beginging but once you get in to the 3rd chapter you kind of know what happened and what is going to happen. The book was about a girl named Blister and she is going through a hard time in her life because her parents have been married for a long time and her parents are finally gettign divorced. Blister is very upset about this. So her and her mother stay to live in the same house and the father is told to move out of the house, so he moves out and he finds another lady. He starts to go on dates with her and then after a couple of years they finally get ingaged and then aventually get married. Blister does not like what her father is doing to her. Blister thinks that her mother and father could work things out and get back together again but that is not what happens. So her dad re- marries another women adn Blister does not approve of it. Know Blister wants to get revenge from her father since he will not lister to what Blister has to say. So she goes to her fathers new house and.....If you want to know what happens next you will have to read the book!! I liked the book alot and I think that you will too.

Blister
Blister is a great book. Blister was so brave, and she always looked on the bright side. She took control of her own life, and it made me want to be just like her. It was one of the best books I've ever read. It was wonderful, stupendous, and just plain great. I read it over and over again.

Many of the stories in this book are distasteful. I would not recomend this book to anyone.

What a Wonderful Book!
This is a wonderful book. Once I started it, I didn't want to put it down. I love a format of vignettes (short essays or stories). If you aren't a Christian, you may think these stories are too churchy or just can't be real. But if you ARE a Christian, you know exactly how the power of God carries us through everyday life. The theme of this book touches the soul of Christian women. Stories are either told by a woman of faith, or are about a woman of faith. Both men and women share real incidences from their life, covering nearly every scenario imaginable. The horrible: death, cancer, physical disfigurements, abuse, divorce. And the glorious: miraculous healings, new love, the wonder of children, God's protective hand. Though quite varied in content, each story testifies to God's grace, strength, and abundant love. The Chicken Soup people have outdone themselves with this uplifting collection to warm and heal the soul of the Christian woman. Blessings to them. And blessings to you from the MenopauseLady. Donna Rogers, author The Menopause Survival Guide.

Another fantastic addition to the Chicken Soup Series
We are blessed to have yet another collection of amazing stories to read and to share. Also of note is the tone of the book which is gentle and lovingly points the reader to draw their own conclusions - there is absolutely no offensive preachyness here! I would highly recommend this as a great gift or to read yourself! Thanks again to the Chicken Soup Team - you have done it again!

Save your pennies
Cricket the grand old English game, the gentlemens game. More research should have explained the games heritage and how it was introduced to the countries that were under English rule, thus giving a greater understanding of how the game came to dominate in the former English colonies. I think that this emphasis would have made for not only a deeper understanding of why Cricket has failed to establish itself as a serious sport in many countries that were not part of the English commowealth but also why the game is steaped in English tradition.

Informative and amusing at the same time
This book is best suited to somebody who has witnessed some cricket without having a clue what was going on. The book is filled with answers to questions typical of the ones a novice might ask (why do they all wear white? don't they all get bored? who's WINNING???). Fun cartoons throughout. I understand that the UK edition of this book is called 'what is a googly?'.

Mark Pyle
I found this book by doing a search for Mark Pyle as an author in a vain attempt at finding a tape called "Death of An American Dream," which I know he is quoted on, but I'm not positive he authored. But, this book looks interesting. Anything by the last Clipper Captain is a good read to me.

"Pan Am has place of it's own. You call it the world, we call it home." Gone but not forgotten....

I am the editor-in-chief for American article development
I originally was going to submit this review as the author...which in fairness I am as much as any of those listed but withdrew the verbage before the final mouse click for avoidance of legal ramifications.

In 1991, Chronicle of Aviation was originally published in France. It was piloted by a wonderful Air France Concorde pilot by the name of Edouard Chemel and published under Chronicle Publications...the owner a very colorful Belgian by the name of Jacques Legrand. The book was later translated into english by Derek Mercer and new articles and content to attract the attention of english speaking audiences. Ivan Rendall, "Reaching for the Skies," was the original editor-in-chief for England but withdrew at the last moment and Bill Gunston was his replacement. Gunston's name in England is well known, and was thought to increase sales after Rendall pulled out of the project.

I was brought in as editor-in-chief for American content in December of '91 and was a contributing author of well over 70 articles and many, many pictures as well.

The book never did well in the USA but was quite successful overseas. American's and history... well, we are a throw away society, are we not?

Since Chemel and I are notably absent from your author header, I respectfully submit that we both contributed more blood sweat and tears than any of those individuals you have listed.

With respect,

Mark S. Pyle Captain "The Last Clipper" December 4th, 1991

editor-in-chief "Chronicle of Aviation"

Comprehensive encyclopedia of all things aviation!
I'm a pilot and was looking for the biggest and most comprehensive history of aviation. I found it in this book!
This is the essential aviation book and reference/research tool! Place it on your coffee table -- it will never get put back down! Hardcover, high quality images and articles. Each page looks like a newspaper. It is a tad biased toward Europe, but US aircraft, ever the powerhouse of aviation in the world, is overwhelmingly the majority of articles. There is some editorial embellishing, but not to the point that the bulk of the historical fact is presented.
This book is HUGE! Over 950+ pages! Color and black and white photos, artwork. The book is broken down into chronological history of aircraft from 1500-1992. At the beginning of each year, a huge cover image from some significant happening (or other cool image) appears with the stats for highest altitude, engine HP, speed record, etc. for aviation at that point.
Just when you think its over, there is a 200+ page section on how all types of aircraft engines work, including famous engines, types of fuel, turbo and super charging, turbines, rotary, etc. Then, after that, there is major world airline information including artwork of each aircraft tail and its corporate logo, plus vital stats about each. Neat!
Buy this book, you won't be dissapointed.

You'll Get Through Crash Team Racing Faster With This Guide
This book includes the shortcuts of CTR,and tips on how to get the crystals in Skull Rock,Rampage Ruins,Rocky Road, and Nitro Court.I wouldn't want to say that the guide is bad,but it dosn't help in many levels.

Nice book!
This guide book is very nice and easy to understand and read. It is fantastic for hints, etc. It's like any other guide book, or should I say good guide book. It will definately help you out when you need it.

As with anything, shop around on prices. I think all of these guide books are a little over priced, but that's just my opinion.

this thing will be useful when you are looking for secrets
it'll help you with getting the crystals and coins but most of all this helps you with the shortcuts so you can beat nitros oxide

A very useful book and an excellent reference
I used this book for my Computer Science 2 course. The information was presented logically, although the explanations were a bit long and wordy. Otherwise, this book was excellent, and it is the best reference book on C++ I own. I have found myself referring back to this book more so than any other textbook for a course I've completed. Its appendices contain a great deal of useful information.

Good ref. textbook; recommended for intermediate programmer
This book is excellent for those who has basic C++ programming skill. It must be accompanied with a course in C++ because it is designed that way.

I found the textbook to be helpful and detailed with many examples. Although I have to admit that it took 2x (or even more) to understand each chapter, I find it is rewarding and rich in details.

Remember, it is not a "Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days" type of book. You must be enrolled in a course or already knew the C++ language in order to benefit from it.

This book is the bomb....
I used this book for a Data Structures class, loved it. The book is kinda tough to read because it is chock full of detail, but it is a good primer for a beginner in C++ and is full of examples and actual code. I used the code on the disk that comes with the book on several courses, the sort routines are excellent. I used the book for reference all the way through my Masters in Comp Sci.

A must-read for all pastors and church leaders.
Ignore the first review. That is the denial of death. While our message must remain pure, our methods must meet the culture.

A thorougly challenging book, it describes the rise and fall of the institutional church in America, the forces at work in that progession and the forces on the horizon that will force us to re-invent ourselves if we are to minister effectively in the next century.

excellent research and analysis of the church's future
I have been reading several books on postmodernism and its implications for the church, but this book goes even further with better research into generational characteristics that rang true in my own life and my family. It is the best book I have read on the need change in the church, and I have read at least five. It also explained why my church has been doing well in that we unwittingly have been ministering to the Switchers and the survivor generation.

Very good book which examines the state of mainline churches
I think the author does an excellent job of examining the state of mainline churches in America today. This book is about change and that scares a lot of people. I found it very informative.

Birding at its worst
I'm an avid birder, but this book was very disappointing. Filled with, at most, mildly amusing anecdotes about obsessive people "twitching" (as the Brits call it) to add to their country lists, I had trouble finishing it. This is birding at its most fatuous. The author concedes that chasing rare birds has no intrinsic value, bringing into question whether reading about the chasers has any value, either.

Kenn Kaufman's "Kingbird Highway" and George Levine's "Lifebirds" are much better books that capture the joy of birding and transcend the pointlessness of mere listing.

Doesn't capture the joy I get from birding
I love bird-watching and have spent many happy hours around the world behind a pair of binoculars but this book captures very little of the joy I get from watching birds. Yes it's occasionally funny and occasionally well written but most of the time it consists of little more than the birder equivalent of name dropping. I came away with a strong feeling that birding is a clique of people who feel that they are the only people who know what real birding is.

Tales of a Tribe
English author Cocker (Rivers of Blood, Rivers of Gold, 2000, etc.) offers a combined celebration of and apologia for the national passion for birding, which in Britain provides both the thrill of high competition and the bonding of a cult. After 30 years of dealing with his own obsession for bird-watching (as it is somewhat more commonly known on this Atlantic shore), the author brings both experience and perspective to bear on the subject. However, novice birders should not expect a systematic treatise on advancing their craft. Cocker is much more interested in why than how, and he often lets his preoccupation with good form emerge in negative examples. Those who cannot deal properly with a bird's external anatomy, such as distinguishing between primary, secondary, and tertiary wing feathers, he asserts, may or may not be "bird lovers," but they're not birders. Expounding on perhaps the major difference between the way Brits and Americans typically pursue this fast-growing activity, he spends an entire chapter on the virtues of taking notebooks into the field and filling them up as fast and furiously as possible with sketches as well as text. The author is simultaneously at his best and most ambivalent in parables of fellow "twitchers," the (mostly) young bloods who have often dropped everything, including careers and spouses, to dash off somewhere far away for a glimpse of a rumored rarity. One friend and his wife, for example, cut short a US vacation and scramble back to England at word that a single Common Nighthawk has been spotted there (a rare occurrence) just a day after seeing nearly 50 of the same birds pass directly overhead in Cape May, New Jersey. Quirky and impulsive often beyond belief, some twitchers have been ultimately driven, the author effectively argues, to become among the finest interpreters on Earth of what nature can mean to human beings. Persuasive, idiosyncratic, and often quite amusing.

oh god!
I always liked Martha Reeves - until I read this book. It's easily the most self-absorbed, preening, everyone's-at-fault-but-me autobiography I've ever seen. Every hit the Vandellas had is entirely credited to her (she even claims to have helped write every single through 1967) while every flop is attributed to Motown's bad promotion. Reeves catalogs her myriad hospitalizations for drug overdoses and frequent changes in personnel while blaming the collapse of her career on a Diana Ross/Berry Gordy plot. Martha, did it ever occur to you that while you were taking every pill that came near you, Diana was working on her career? Plus, Reeves seems not to have noticed that she lost her voice circa 1968. I won't even start ripping into the Hallmark-style poems that open each chapter. Whoever the hell Mark Bego is, he's no fact checker: among the numerous errors, James Jamerson is alleged to have died in 1974 rather than 1983, and Idi Amin is mentioned as being in charge of Egypt (which Reeves toured in the late 70's) rather than Uganda. It must be said that there is a decent amount of background info on obscure Motownies like Richard Morris, great pictures and a solid discography. Of the multiple Motown tell-alls I've read, though, this is the only one that left a sour taste in my mouth.

Martha is a classy lady!!
This was my first Motown book and I am glad to say that. I enjoyed Dancing in the Streets more than I did Mary Wilson's books. Now we all know that all of the spurned Motown artist feel burned and are out to get what's owed them, but in reading this book, I did not feel like that was the driving force behind its conception. Martha tells it like it is! I commend her for this effort! I hope she writes another one!!

I highly recommend this one!

Interesting start to finish
Martha Reeves is about as far from Diana Ross as can be. She's always been in love with the music while Ross so often has seemed consumed with being endlessly reassured she is the best, she is the greatest star who ever lived, she is a living legend but, on the other hand, has never been bright enough to see that if you have to tell people to call you "Miss Ross" so you'll get the respect you deserve all you're getting back is people going through the motions (which, in the end, is indeed the respect you deserve). All this has never been part of Reeves' life. She's enjoyed her success, she's enjoyed the fame but she's never needed to constantly gobble up adoration. This has freed her to be down to earth, realistic and truly soulful as both a performer and a person. If you've ever met Martha you know she is intelligent, articulate, wise and humorous and she long, long ago left behind all about Motown that might have made her an angry old woman. In fact, there is nothing old about her--Martha looks great, sounds great and is still full of enthusiasm for her work. In England and Europe she is big big star, greatly adored. Wherever she works she is a consummate professional--she always looks terrific and gives a great show. This book is interesting start to finish--you get the Motown story for real. And, true to her own life, Martha is dignified beginning to end. No cheap shots or dirty gossip here. Martha can be VERY proud of this very successful book.

Interesting perspective from a common footsoldier...
Obviously the reader below my comments have no idea of what was like being someone who have little education and being conscripted to a foreign army on an insane path of conquest of Russia by a human being many Europeans and Englishs considered as "The Little Monster", aka Napoleon. This footsoldier was just a man who just observed the long journey of the Grande Armee, taking only what he knew and understood without any intellectual pretentious babbles commonly founded in other books written by highly educated scholars and researchers. The book was the perspective of a simple soldier jutting notes based on his casual observations. So it's worth reading it. I think this reader below should take a lesson in history for himself.

A great read
Not a big enthusiast of the Napoleonic war, I was still compelled to read this book, being one who enjoys to read such first-person accounts. I have to say, it was very much worth it. Indeed, it is a short book, and therefore a quick read; but it is infused with a wealth of information about the life of a soldier of this era. The prose is clean and clear, and like the previous reviewer states, in no way marred by the agenda of the more scholarly memoirist. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent little book
This is an excellent little book which gives an insider's view into the horrors of Napoleon's ill-advised invasion of Russia in 1812...
