A must for any hardcore fan.
This is a great book. It's very well made. It let's Metallica speak for themselves. It's not a biography, it's a book filled with great quotes and photos from the start of their career.

Great book. Lets Metallica speak for themselves
This book is better than any biography that I have read of any group. Instead of paraphrasing thoughts for the group, it lets the group speak for itself through the bandmembers quotes they have made throughout the years (and it tells you what year the quote was from). The book contains an introduction by the editor (Metallica does the rest of the writing) and quotes from the band members made throughout the Metallica's career. The quotes are grouped on the certain topics they are talking about. I would say it is an essential for any Metallica fan

Please REPRINT this book!
I found this book at the library and I just fell in love with it. It is so cute and sweet and the pictures are just gorgeous! It perfectly demonstrates the wonderful relationship that people can have with cats if they will just treat them right. As the boy learned, if you are gentle and kind to cats, you will be rewarded with the affection of very loving creatures. My cat is just like that. Mark Graham's beautiful paintings illustrate the wonderful qualities of cats: they are mysterious, beautiful, serene, cozy, and very affectionate. This book is out of print, but I have been fortunate enough to find two old copies. I treasure them.

Perfect for young children getting their first pet
Michael comes to visit his aunt and uncle. In his zeal to love the cat is too rough, initially alienating them. But over time he watches the cats and learns what the cats want

Great study tool
This is a great study aid because it helps in retaining information for exams. It does this because it is easy to understand and written in an organized fashion. I also would recommend the following which is also sold on amazon.com:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
by Patrick Leonardi
(ISBN: 0971999635)
The second book was very thorough and showed me the kind of questions to be ready for on my exams in medical microbiology class in my med school. Both proved quite helpful. Both are must buys. In fact, I have a friend in a different med school and she used these same books and also got good grades in her medical microbiology class.

Very good reference
This is a quick important review for microbiology. It is well-organized and easy to read. This study aid also helps to retain information for microbiology class and USLME boards. However, if you really want a great study guide for medical microbiology class and for USLME, study the following book by Patrick Leonardi:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (ISBN: 0971999635), which is sold on amazon. Both books are very helpful. Half of my class used both of these books and everyone got at least an A or B.

Adorable!!
This book was given to my two-year old son, from his Grandma, for Halloween. It is a little advanced for him right now, but he LOVES the wonderful pictures in it. They are truly fantastic! I point out different things to him and explain what certain things are.

It's really excellent and I know this book will become a Halloween Tradition. After reading it, you feel you've just read something very special. You won't be disappointed!

Stupendous story about a very nice witch!
I cannot say enough about this story. The way the author writes his poems, combined with the glorious pictures is wonderful. My two daughters have been so excited about this book, they argue about who will get to read it in bed.

It is a wonderful tale about a nice witch, who is not beautiful outwardly, but on the inside. She makes wonderful pies for the Trick-or-Treaters on Halloween. Her house is the last stop at midnight for some excellent pie and cider.

We highly recommend this book to any "Halloween lovers"...

Missiles in Cuba: Kennedy, Khrushchev, Castro and the 1962 Crisis (American Ways Series)

Clear-headed approach to an interesting topic
In the wake of the Iraq invasion, it is wise to remember an international incident nearly 40 years ago that also involved a third world country with weapons on mass destruction. Professor White shows that both the Kennedy and the Khrushchev adminstrations, after fumbling at the start, were able to balance and sort out a very deadly game of nuclear chess. The recent film Thirteen Days shows the American side, but White expands to show the game being played in the Kremlin as well.

Professor White writes in a very lean manner and his conclusions are well grounded. There is no better introduction to the issues behind and the events unfurling during the missile crisis.

Best Prayer Guide
Mission 2000 is a day by day prayer guide that will guide you in prayer until the year 2010.

It has a page a day format that starts with a verse of scripture, followed by a short "real life " story. Also you'll find a few thought provoking questions and a quote for the day.

I know that sounds like a lot of information for a page-a-day book, but it packs a lot onto an easy to read page.

This is your best bet for an all around prayer guide.

Comforting
This book is easy to read and very spiritual. It allows you to use the scripture every day in a readable format. I recommend to everyone!

One of the greatest 20th century entertainers
In 2003, Fred "Mister" Rogers departed this world after a lifetime of public service to all children.

In a day when many people from all points on the political spectrum had eagerly reduced 'compassion', 'equality' and 'pro-child' to catchy, but ultimately divisive and meaningless words, he continued to bring out the best in everybody.

He is one of the few people in this world deserving of all his awards/honors and then much more.

As evidence of his timeless appeal, I never tired of watching his namesake PBS children's show. Even when I was much older (and out of the intended demographic service range), I loved the truly nurturing environment regularly brough into my living room. Well before I realized my parents were not getting along (eventually divorcing), Mr. Rogers "told" me via daily broadcast that good families come in all structures, and the family format is subsequently less important than how the individual members treat eachother and themselves. When my parents finally did divorce in high school, I had been so helped by Roger's work, I immediately flashed back to his reassuring songs.

That the sets were decidedly showing their age in places by the late 1980's, and the cast themselves featured in some segments had died mattered much less than their overall mission of helping ALL kids navigate an often unforgiving world in uplifting and supportive tones.

The mostly male ensemble cast of the neighborhood (although this changed in latter seasons) was not problematic in the long-run for this feminist, because it suggested an alternate male sexuality that was built on empathy and peace as opposed to macho swaggering. It was okay for men of all ages to cry, hug and freely embrace a side of themselves that Western culture remains fixated on suppresing.

At a different developmental stage in the human life-span, kids were smart, and did not deserve the condescending behavior so many other adults (including those on 'educational/children's' programming) spew at us in the pursuit of ratings and the almighty American dollar.

Unlike PBS's other "flagship" children's program, Sesame Street (now famous for abandoning the original-audience at-risk urban kids to focus on the offspring of suburban yuppies), Mr. Rogers always remembered his audience, and never sold out or let us down.

Even when growing partisan political battles and budget cuts provided powerful incentive to follow suit, he made sure principles were more than abstract words. All children had an inalienable right to be treated with respect and dignity.

From tackling such edgy subjects as the RFK Assassination to hostages and war, Mr. Rogers always both captured and nurtured his audience's imagination. Talking things out wasn't necessarily high-tech or flashy, but it was unbelievably better when compared to letting personal feelings bottle up inside.

Adding to the quality, Rogers was scrupulous about not parading his religious affiliations (licensed minister in the Presbyterian Church) as the reason his advice should be taken.

For my generation with the unfortunate timing to grow up with the beginnings of a markedly aggressive televangelist craze, his conduct provided a welcome alternative to the less-than-admirable actions of other adults in our world. It was not enough to simply apply religious freedoms to one's self, they belong to every citizen.---including those of differing perspectives and no religious affiliation.

Thus, the most constructive educational pedagogy was one that did not continually promote any religion (or the formal absence) but far more civil neutrality.

As with so many other people, I never got to personally thank him for the gift, but I know I am using it whenever I think both critically and compassionately about the larger world around me. I also know I am not the only one who remembers him through this type of a tribute, and our collective efforts will produce the best kind of off-screen "neighborhood" possible.

The not-so-subtle discounting of this very same instructional idea by self-appointed educational guardians suggests both how far ahead of his time he was and effective Rogers truly remains.

RIP Mr. Rogers.

fantastic
i found this book remaindered for a very low price, but it is totally worth the full list price. a respectful, intelligent look at the great man Fred Rogers and his TV show that isn't even a TV show, really... varying points of views. the essayists only occasionally become too weirdly academic or navel-gazing. i like the production values on this hardcover, too -- it's fully cloth-covered with a full cloth, smythe-sewn binding, acid free paper, and neat endpapers. the back cover photo rules, too. 2003 May 3rd is the Mr Rogers memorial ceremony in downtown pittsburgh -- go!

the mixed up pup
I think this book is realy cool. i like the dogs and cats. escpecially butch. he is really cool. i hope someone buys me the rest of the paw island books!

A lively, engaging, beautifully illustrated story.
Long ago, an orphan cat named Graham Paw escaped from an evil pet orphanage and left the Land of People to find a home for all his orphan friends. He searched all the land and all the seas until at long last he found the perfect home: a paw-shaped island in the middle of a distant sea. He named this special place Paw Island and claimed its shores for orphan pets everywhere. In The Mixed-up Pup, Butch is a newcomer to Paw Island and dislikes all the cats and any dogs that don't look like him. Will he cause others to think like him? Corey Maxwell's engaging story, is enhanced through truly beautiful rendered and colorful illustrations along with an accompanying CD of lively, original, engaging music. Two other Paw Island titles are also highly recommended: A Paw Island Christmas and The Big Little Lie.

More interesting in the context of increasing globalization
Mobius is certainly a guru for people like me who do analysis on emerging markets. People were questioning the viability of emerging markets investing as an asset class just a couple of years ago due to contrast between the boom of US equity market and the gloomy performance of MSCI. Doubts also come from the debate on the "high alpha or just high beta". Some even go further to say that "either the companies (in emerging markets) have been integrated into global markets or the companies are not worthy at taking a look at all". So what's the virtue of investment market as an asset class? Does it matter? What kind of investors are the fit for this asset class? How?

I am a firm believer in what Charles Ellis as well as David Swensen have said about the alternative investments philosphy. In "winning the loser's game", Ellis eloquently, humorously while ruthlessly concluded that "it is harder and harder to beat the market" for market is yourself or people like yourself. It is a pity that he didn't talk about emerging markets. Mobius went on to explore the markets to share the knowledge on this young while dynamite asset class. It is still too early to draw a conclusion on this-we'll wait and see. Nevertheless, It is great that somebody is there waving to you and say "hay, you might want to try this and it is fine".

An Interesting & Enlightening Insight to Emerging Markets
Mobius on Emerging Markets demonstrates that the author is more than just a fashion guru. The book is a well-written and compelling read; I read nearly all the 364 pages in one day. It is logically structured and gives the reader an enlightening introduction to emerging markets; this is supported with clear graphical and tabulated statistics.

The book is divided into three Parts:

1) Emerging Markets

Origins of Emerging Markets Macro Economic Trends in Emerging Markets

2) Country Reviews

Emerging Market Overview (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East, Southern Europe)

3) Investment

Investment Strategies and Investments Evaluating Stock Picks Stock Exchange Characteristics Risks My View on Emerging Markets

Although I was initially sceptical of Mark Mobius I must thoroughly recommend this book and congratulate Mark Mobius on his well-deserved success.

If you are considering investing in emerging markets 'Mobius on Emerging Markets' is his best advertisement yet.

Not all haircuts end up bad
This is a very good book. It has everything that it needs to keep a young reader interested. Elmo has a very great imagination. I think that kids that read this book will like that. Everything starts with a bad haircut, but it all turns out pretty good. There are some very unexpected things that happen. It is a very fun book to read. The pictures also are very good in helping you really imagine the story. I would defnitely recommend this story to all kids. That is why I gave this book 5 stars.

Every bad hair day has its silver lining
For Elmo, not much can brighten the prospect of starting school with a horrible hair cut, so he pulls on a stocking cap and hunkers down in front of the last-night-of-summer-space-monster-movie.

The rest of us luck out though, when some fellow green-headed aliens drop in for a drink and take Elmo off in search of the most famous barber in the galaxy.

This charming book has a witty text and beautiful illustrations. Such a pity it's out of print!
