a chilling account of being stuck in a cult
I read this book straight through. It's sort of creepy to see what this poor fellow got stuck in but he did get out of it. Oh seekers of truth, it warns us by just telling the story, don't give up your own truth for another's. I went to hear Rama in San Francisco in 87 with some friends from the SF Zen Center and it was a fun trip that we all got a big kick out of though we thought he was just a slick con man. This book tells about the con and the madness and suffering going on with Rama and his students. It should stay in print and be kept in the libraries of all religious institutions.

Brilliant Story
The Talemaker almost seems like an afterthought to Harris' career, comared to other novels like Speed and the four Henry Wiggen books. However in many ways The Talemaker may be his best work. Certainly it is his most deeply personal. The main charecters, Rimrose, Kakapick, and Polly Anne are among the most orginal and compelling figures I have ever seen in fiction. Subtly written underneath the story Harris challenges the reader with that eternal question of University English Department's...What is Literature? Kakapick thinks he knows, while Rimrose simply enjoys trying to find out. Of course the story can never give a definate answer but it makes for great reading and re-reading. I have read this book 5 times and always find something new hidden behind one of Harris' many clever phrases. Above everything else, Mark Harris is a master of the American Lexicon.

Great Story! Lots of fun!
I like this story a lot. It is spooky. Whenever I read it I can visualise what is happening. This story has some great events and is one of the best Are You Afraid Of The Dark series books out! You should read it sometime.

Dawn Marks is a Great Author
I thoroughly enjoyed Dawn Marks' Tales from the Otherworld. Her work is both engaging and informed. Her imagination is very deep, and her characters are always interesting. I also highly recommend her other novels and poems - I've read them all and enjoyed them very much. Dawn, write some more soon!!!!!!!!!

Tales Never Told Around The Campfire
My interest in 19th Century western history was sparked by "Triggernometry" by Eugene Cunningham. That book started me on the path to finding out more about the real characters who peopled the west, rather than film depictions. I had heard of "Tales Never Told Around the Campfire" and it seemed to be well worth reading. My daughter ordered it from Amazon in time for Christmas and it is one of the best presents I've had in a long time. It is very readable and obviously meticulously researched. Mark Dugan is not only an fine historian but able to write in such a way as to bring out the personalities and motivations of the people involved. For me, the chapter which proved the most interesting was that of "Duck Bill"/"Dutch Bill" Hickok and his role in the McCanles killing. As a boy I had heard of it as a major battle. I had certainly never heard of Sarah Shull, an enigmatic woman if ever there was one, before this year. Mark Dugan paints a far more realistic and believable scenario where the interplay of personalities (Hickok, McCanles, Shull and Wellman) and events led to McCanles, standing outside the building, being killed by a shot from within. Other stories include a black outlaw, the lynching of women and an outlaw who was clearly, in his own way, a genius with surprisingly many talents - each of the stories fascinating and well documented. Mark Dugan is to be commended for producing such a scholarly and work whilst makng it so readable. I can heartily recommend this book to anyone looking to find out more about the West as it really was. This book has furthered my interest and encouraged me to continue to find out about the real "Wild West".

An solid introduction to Batman's first 50 years in comics
"Tales of the Dark Night" covers Batman's first fifty years (1939-1980). Mark Cotta Vaz's book was, of course, inspired the revival of interest in the character following the critical success of Frank Miller's "Dark Knight" and the Tim Burton film version of "Batman." This book does a solid job of detailing the continuing evolution of Batman since the character was first introduced in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939. Vaz looks at the "Golden Age" of the Forties, when the orphaned Bruce Wayne first began his crime-fighting career, the development of the arch-villains such as the Joker and Penguin, what he characterizes as the "benign scoutmaster" days of the Fifties during the comic book censorship uproar, the strange science-fiction/space alien episodes of the early Sixties and the campy late Sixties television show, and the characters return to his root as the apocalyptic Dark Knight. "Tales of the Dark Knight" is fully illustrated by artists from Bob Kane to Curt Swan, Sheldon Moldoff to Murphy Andreson, Neal Adams to Ed Hannigan, all the way up to Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. In addition to panels from dozens of comics there are 48 classic covers presented in full color. This book does a more than adequate job of filling in the gaps in the career of Gotham's crime fighter. Whether you know a little or a lot about Batman, you should enjoy leafing through this book.

A must read even if your parent was not an alcoholic!
This book was amazing. It hit the target for me in many ways. Not only is this a book for people who were raised by an alcoholic parent, it is also beneficial for anyone who has had to deal with a domineering, violent, narcissistic person. Once I began it, I could not put it down. Truly well-written and authentic.

Spongebob. What else needs to be said.
This book is a delight to read. It has great pictures from the episode. It also has a very good novelization of the episode. The author didn't leave anything out. This makes a great companion to the DVD "Tales From The Deep" which has this episode on it.
