A fascinating, informative, and highly recommended account
The sailing ship La Belle was used in the 1600's in the beleaguered Fort St. Louis settlement's attempt to escape. But when the La Belle sank, the ship's occupants found themselves stranded, and then threatened by hostile Indians. Chapters detailing the history of the colony and the ship alternate with the modern account of the finding and recovering of the long-sunken ship and its artifacts. In 1995, the Texas Historical Commission discovered the sunken La Belle, and set to work extracting it and its cargo. The result of their labors and the amazing preserved relics of history fill the pages of this fascinating, informative, and highly recommended account, enhanced with black-and-white artwork.

Very complete photo archive...
I'm what you might call a Jeep fanatic or addict, so I can never get enough Jeep info. When I ordered this book, I expected to see a collection of photos that I had already viewed in other books. I was wrong. This book has an outstanding collection of photographs of rare Jeeps from the WWII era that I had not previously seen. If you enjoy seeing photos of rare and prototype Jeeps, then this book is a must have.

Excellent resource for many different ages
As a Secondary English teacher, I feel this book would be a wonderful teaching tool for homeschoolers or public school teachers. Explanations are clear and examples are ample. Although this is excellent for younger grades, it is also an great review or introduction to literature for older students as well. Literary terms, such as setting, mood, clarity, character development, ..., are well-explained and any student would be well-equipped to discuss and analyze literature with these tools. In fact, I think that high school students who wish to take the CLEP in Analyzing and Interpreting Literature would benefit from using this book before the test, especially studying the literary devices explained in the book.

Great book for students of the subject
This book is collection of seminal papers in computer architecture. Similar collections have been used for classes in my university; and I can easily say this is one of the best collections I've ever seen.

If you're a grad student, researcher, or practicing engineer on the area, this is a great book to keep nearby. It will save you from the hassle of going to the library and making copies of all the important papers.

On the other hand, this book is not of much use if you don't already possess advanced knowledge of computer architecture, i.e. it definitely is not a beginners' book. These people might want to take a look at Hennessy & Patterson's book for a very comprehensive, or at Tanenbaum's book for a simpler introduction to the field.

I strongly recommend this book.

Readings on the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (The Greenhaven Press Literary Companion to American Literature)

Huckleberry Finn Under a Contemporary Microscope
The Greenhaven Press book: "Readings on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Katie de Koster, editor, is a compilation of 18 essays by very competent writers/analysts evaluating most of the literary, moral, historical and social aspects of Mark Twain's signature masterpiece. Ernest Hemingway once said that Huckleberry Finn was the finest piece of American writing to that time and the foundation of American fiction to follow it, or words to that effect. "Readings" presents dissections of Huck Finn and exposes the book from the personal viewpoints of literary scholars, social activists, classroom educators and other authors. "Readings" is sine qua non for those who want to understand the seminal significance of Huck Finn, as a book, and for insight and intelligent discussion. How we interpret "Readings" may tell us readers more about ourselves than about the real motives of Samuel Clemens in writing the book. Some of us may be somewhat surprised at the "self" that might be revealed.

Wow!
I bought this book by accident. I was in a bookstore looking for another book, but ended up walking out with Wilberforce's enduring classic. I first encountered Wilberforce when reading a biography of the American abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison. Since that time I have had the opportunity to read the life story of the English Great Emancipator himself. Wilberforce may have been small and frail in physical stature but his moral stature is that of a giant. For decades, Wilberforce, an MP in the British Parliament, labored toward two great ends: 1. To abolish the slave trade and slavery itself within Great Britain. 2. To change the decadent and decaying moral culture of his homeland. Real Christianity was written toward goal #2. On reading Real Christianity it is easy to see why it remained an English bestseller for 50 years! Wilberforce's writing is like the man himself. Compassionate, logical, persuasive, determined, humorous, and fair-minded.

I used the Real Guide to Guatamala in '92 and it was by far the most interesting and informative I had. I highly recommend finding a copy if you are planning to go to Guatamala.

Realistic SF and great thriller
This is a fantastic book. The science-fiction elements are near future and very well conceived. It has a strong plot and the action and suspense are well paced. The characters are interesting and I found myself drawn into their world and very interested in what happens to them as the story unfolds. Highly recommended.
