Better than Ikea!
This, along with three other books I have, give you everything you need to really furnish your house. I love this stuff. Can't wait to make that buffet, china hutch, and a handful of other things. I've always wanted to do this kind of thing, after watching my Dad do it for many years, and now I can.

Testing Very Big Systems (Software Engineering Series)

Mining for gold
After you've peeled back the layers of testing techniques that are better documented and more refined in more recent books, and archaic language that characterized the mainframe lingo that was dying out when this book was first written a decade ago you'll find gold.

First, the way test case management is presented stands the test of time. The author is obviously well versed in managing complex system testing and it shows in his detailed approach to developing a test strategy and managing a large array of test cases. As good as this material is, it isn't a sufficient reason to track down a copy of this book because Rick Craig and Stefan Jaskiel have a more modern book, "Systematic Software Testing" that accomplishes the same goal.

The real gold is in the way that this book integrates testing, issue management and metrics. Although there is a large body of knowledge on these topics, this book manages to sort out the complexities in the clearest terms I've encountered. I also think that the approach change management is excellent, and especially the way this is linked to issue management. On the subject of issue management, the taxonomy of issue types has served me as a model during numerous consulting engagements for service delivery and software engineering process development, and have been proven in the field.

Additional gold is in the chapters on test documentation (especially the treatment of status reporting) and managing management. I also like the way that the author takes economic considerations into account, which was not much in vogue when this book was written in 1992.

If you're an SQA or applications delivery practitioner I strongly recommend tracking down a copy of this book. Look past the archaic parts and you will find one nugget after the other of useful information. I wish this book would be rewritten to reflect today's environment and the lessons that the author learned in the decade since this book was first published because there is much in this book that you will not find elsewhere.

Theory of Group Representations

Theory of Group Representations, THE BOOK
I doubt it is possible to write a better book on this subject. It is, of course, known that Academician Naimark was one of the great mathematicians of this century, and also that he was an inspired writer ( his "Normed Rings" is a gem). In this book he shows another talent: that of choosing the right level for practitioners. Very sound mathematics, kept, however, to the strict indispensable minimal. The examples are excellent, along the whole book. He starts from scratch (group definition) and proceeds up to Dynkin diagrams. In the way to this he gives sterling presentations of topology, topological groups and differentiable manifolds. All of them with perfect measure. A landmark.

comprehensive, modern, rigorous treatment of stat theory
This is the best book I've found that takes a modern approach to statistical theory at the advanced undergrad or graduate level. Schervish covers the necessary probability background, classical and Bayesian decision theory, and hypothesis testing comprehensively, while maintaining a level of rigor suitable for math majors (the appendix nicely summarizes requisite results from measure theory and mathematical probability). It covers most if not all of the classical results found in Lehmann's TSH and TPE, but from a more modern perspective. This permits a more coherent, well organized presentation. The only (minor) drawback I found were some typos here and there -- to be expected from a first edition of a 600 pager. It was a joy to study from this book.

Professor Mark Really Helped Me
When I was in college I simply could not get the hang of Thermo. Studying this book really enabled me to grasp the different types of thermodynamics problems and to understand each one. I would recommend this programmed text to any undergraduate struggling with Thermo 101.

A great text book for sophomores in high school.
I am interested in acquiring 200+ copies of this book for our sophomore religion classes. We were told that it is not being published anymore. If anyone has a source for this number of books please let me know. Thanks.

Thieves & Kings Volume 3 (The Blue Book)

And Now The Stage Is Set...
Mark continues the story of Rubel and Heath, maintaining the quality of artwork and writing with which he has unfolded his story over the last two volumes. More secrets and mysteries are revealed in this volume, and, as Mark says in a letter at the back of the book, this book finally sets the stage for the "second act" of a three-part epic (so, nine collections total, if all goes as planned?).

If you haven't read this series yet, you're doing yourself a great disservice. "Thieves and Kings" is an imaginative, complex and yet unintimidating story, featuring deep, sympathetic characters (which hide behind fairly simplistic faces) and detailed, fantastic artwork reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki. Mark remembers what it was like to be a kid, and it shows through his characters and their experiences. This series is a great read for fantasy fans of all ages.
