These authors explore a subject that for most orthodox Christians is not to be questioned. However, anyone who seriously studies the Scriptures cannot reconcile the Jesus revealed in the churches with the Jesus revealed in the Scriptures. This book reveals the truth about Jesus and where and when the error crept into the Christian faith.
It is a must read for any believer who truly wishes to know who the only begotten Son of God is.
The Bible instructs Christ's followers to "prove all things, hold fast to that which is good." Just as non-trinitarians should read the best trinitarian arguments, trinitarians should read this book. It is probably the best non-trinitarian argument in print.

Pause & Effect is aimed at designers who want to do more than shove information at a target audience, or get people to buy stuff online. Mark Meadows discusses interactive narrative and how it relates to actual experience in online situations, as well as real life. He does this by example, by logical argument, and by simply conversing. While there is some deep theory, the text is extremely approachable, and eye-opening to say the least. You won't find formulas to make you a better designer or artist, nor will you come away with a set of rules or guidelines. What you will find is a new approach to recognizing and developing media, perspectives most people are not likely to have thought about, let alone design from.
This book has the potential to drastically change the designer and developer mindset from implementation to creation, from problem solving to architecting new challenges and solutions.
Let me be clear; you will have to work. And it will be a joy. Meadows requires the reader to get involved, to seriously consider the ideas presented and run with them. Pause & Effect will be useless to those who are happy with flashing ad banners and multitudes of pop-up/under/over/behind windows or other annoying attempts at grabbing attention. However, if you want to understand and ponder the very basis of human interaction and involvement with your visitors, this is a wonderful place to start.

Housing: Finding a place to stay was not difficult, but in Guatemala the comfort can vary a lot even in the budget range. We were able to find clean, comfortable and affordable accomodations at all of our stops. I highly recommend the Hotel Santa Clara in Antigua which has a lovely courtyard and older colonial rooms (ours had a cute, decorative fireplace). All the pricings for accomodations were on target throughout our trip (with the Santa Clara coming in at about 17$ per person based on double occupancy). Depending on how much you want to "rough" it - a $5 difference can be a big one in Guatemala and we often reserved rooms at 2 places in each of our locations. If you are traveling in a smaller group or by yourself you probably don't even need to call ahead.
Food: We used this book for many of our eating recommendations and it never failed to give us an idea of the type of food and quality to expect.
History and Culture: The book was enjoyable to read and provided some good information on preparation, recent happenings as well as history. A little more info on Tikal would have been great - perhaps a walking tour guide - but there are other books available for that and the site is huge.
Overall: I plan to use Rough Guide again in the future. After my less than desirable experience in Peru with Lonely Planet, as their descriptions are often flat and pricing out of date depite the "new" edition.

The Mathabane family lives in a suburb of Johannesburg, in a one-square mile ghetto that is home to over 200,000 people (400,000 by the end of the book). Employment is hard to come by--for one to work, one must have a permit. But to get a permit, one must have a job.
Their home is a two room shack, where four of the children sleep on the kitchen floor. There is a communal tap outside. Raw sewage runs in the street outside their door. Black children are only allowed to be taught certain subjects in a certain manner, and Miriam and her classmates are routinely beaten for any infraction--mistakes in schoolwork, uncombed hair, nails that are dirty/too long, wearing dirty bloomers, or not wearing bloomers at all. (These people live in complete poverty, and it was not uncommon for children to not have underwear.) The young teenage girls are easy targets of sexual abuse. Many become pregnant, single mothers, unable to finish school.
While the story is unbelievably horrifying, their outlook is one of constant hope and faith. I am unable to get this family out of my mind, and I will be reading Mark Mathabane's autobiographical books as soon as I get my hands on them...This is an amazing story of how people in other parts of the world live. I strongly recommend this book.

There are three other books available from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk which might be a better buy. (Be aware that both Amazon sites ship across the Atlantic at very reasonable rates)
[1] Richard Rubenstein: When Jesus became God - a Jewish historian of conflict resolution examines how the early church controversies lead to the adoption of the Trinity. Not much related to the New Testament but fascinating reading all the same.
[2] Anthony Buzzard: The Doctrine of the Trinity - an appeal for a non-Trinitarian view of Christ, with good section on the history of early Trinitarianism.
[3] James Broughton, Peter Southgate: The Trinity True or False? Much more thorough and complete than Buzzard on the scripture sections, but very brief on the historical side.
