Popularist statement of a non-Trinitarian view
This book probably fills a need in being one of the few populist appeals for a non-Trinitarian view of God and Christ. ... The book is definitely enthusiastic but is a bit thin on substance.

There are three other books available from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk which might be a better buy. (Be aware that both Amazon sites ship across the Atlantic at very reasonable rates)
[1] Richard Rubenstein: When Jesus became God - a Jewish historian of conflict resolution examines how the early church controversies lead to the adoption of the Trinity. Not much related to the New Testament but fascinating reading all the same.
[2] Anthony Buzzard: The Doctrine of the Trinity - an appeal for a non-Trinitarian view of Christ, with good section on the history of early Trinitarianism.
[3] James Broughton, Peter Southgate: The Trinity True or False? Much more thorough and complete than Buzzard on the scripture sections, but very brief on the historical side.

After reading this book you will know who Jesus is.
Most non-trinitarians know who Jesus is not. Very few know who Jesus is. This book fully explains who Jesus is and why he is not "GOD the SON" or a "mere" mortal (as the trinitarians would like you to think all non-trinitarians believe). You will learn why believing he is the "highly exalted" Son of God is the truth.

These authors explore a subject that for most orthodox Christians is not to be questioned. However, anyone who seriously studies the Scriptures cannot reconcile the Jesus revealed in the churches with the Jesus revealed in the Scriptures. This book reveals the truth about Jesus and where and when the error crept into the Christian faith.

It is a must read for any believer who truly wishes to know who the only begotten Son of God is.

Compelling and challenging
Few people change their minds on their opinions about the nature of God, but those willing to put their faith to the test will be rewarded by a careful examination of this book's arguments. Non-trinitarians who hold Jesus as Lord will see this as validation. Trinitarians will see it as heresy.

The Bible instructs Christ's followers to "prove all things, hold fast to that which is good." Just as non-trinitarians should read the best trinitarian arguments, trinitarians should read this book. It is probably the best non-trinitarian argument in print.

Beautiful, but lacking in history and context
This is a beautiful book, worth buying simply for the gorgeous design and the case studies and interviews of interactive works and creators. It's lacking as a theoretical discussion of interactive narrative, though. The book proposes a theory of interactive narrative that shows hardly any awareness at all of other work in the field. The use of visual metaphors and theory is often inspiring, as in the discussion of perspective as a way of thinking about interactive works. I would have liked to see a lot more knowledge of narrative genres and theory in a work attempting to analyse interactive narrative. I would also have liked to see more awareness of the history of interactive narrative and the theories of these works. Where to start? Try The New Media Reader, Cybertext, Hamlet on the Holodeck and see where that takes you.

From a web developer perspective...
I can't really do justice to this book by merely reviewing it. However, since this is meant to be a review, I'll muddle through as best I can.

Pause & Effect is aimed at designers who want to do more than shove information at a target audience, or get people to buy stuff online. Mark Meadows discusses interactive narrative and how it relates to actual experience in online situations, as well as real life. He does this by example, by logical argument, and by simply conversing. While there is some deep theory, the text is extremely approachable, and eye-opening to say the least. You won't find formulas to make you a better designer or artist, nor will you come away with a set of rules or guidelines. What you will find is a new approach to recognizing and developing media, perspectives most people are not likely to have thought about, let alone design from.

This book has the potential to drastically change the designer and developer mindset from implementation to creation, from problem solving to architecting new challenges and solutions.

Let me be clear; you will have to work. And it will be a joy. Meadows requires the reader to get involved, to seriously consider the ideas presented and run with them. Pause & Effect will be useless to those who are happy with flashing ad banners and multitudes of pop-up/under/over/behind windows or other annoying attempts at grabbing attention. However, if you want to understand and ponder the very basis of human interaction and involvement with your visitors, this is a wonderful place to start.

A must buy for interacitve storytellers
As a documentary filmmaker who is starting to work in the the interactive arena, this book is a map through the maze. Mark Meadows provides a detailed and interesting explanation of the evolution of narrative and how that evolution is pushing us into interactive narrative. The book helped me understand interactive design but also expanded my horizons for the work I am presently doing and will do in the future. Interactive narrative is the future for us storytellers, and this book helps us ride the turbulent waves of its development.

it's okay but....
it would be nice to have more detailed information, such as prices for things and such. seems to be accurate so far, but isn't very detailed. i think i prefer lonely planet's guidebooks.

A recommended purchase for your trip to Guatemala
My wife and I went to Guatemala in May of 2002. This is the only guide book we used and we were quite happy with it. In addition to information about various things to do (content was good and accurate) this book contains a lot of great extra information in the back such as chronology of the Maya, recent political history, explanations of indigenous culture, and recommended reading lists. Wow! The listing of hotels and places to eat was on target. The book has a pretty good section on Tikal too.

The best guidebook I've used to date
I just returned yesterday from 10 days in Guatemala and Belize and found the Rough Guide invaluable. I went with 7 friends and between us we had Lonely Planet's "Central America", Lonely Planet's "Guatemala" and Fodor's "Guatemala and Belize". The 2 of us carrying Rough Guide were in the most demand and we relied on it for all our housing and most of our eating recommendations. In addition, the book begins with 33 things you must see/do in Guatemala and we hit most of them.

Housing: Finding a place to stay was not difficult, but in Guatemala the comfort can vary a lot even in the budget range. We were able to find clean, comfortable and affordable accomodations at all of our stops. I highly recommend the Hotel Santa Clara in Antigua which has a lovely courtyard and older colonial rooms (ours had a cute, decorative fireplace). All the pricings for accomodations were on target throughout our trip (with the Santa Clara coming in at about 17$ per person based on double occupancy). Depending on how much you want to "rough" it - a $5 difference can be a big one in Guatemala and we often reserved rooms at 2 places in each of our locations. If you are traveling in a smaller group or by yourself you probably don't even need to call ahead.

Food: We used this book for many of our eating recommendations and it never failed to give us an idea of the type of food and quality to expect.

History and Culture: The book was enjoyable to read and provided some good information on preparation, recent happenings as well as history. A little more info on Tikal would have been great - perhaps a walking tour guide - but there are other books available for that and the site is huge.

Overall: I plan to use Rough Guide again in the future. After my less than desirable experience in Peru with Lonely Planet, as their descriptions are often flat and pricing out of date depite the "new" edition.

Good Pratical Book
I used this book when I took OR class and I think that the book is quite good but it lack of theory calculation and also scientific calculation about each problem. In general I still believe that this is a good book.

Not as good as the first edition
I own both editions where I belive the 1st edition is better than their second. I don't particular like their new approach in teaching network modeling; it's non-intuitive. The first edition was a bit more 'logical' and easier to set up than the approach use in their 2nd edition. Secondly, their use of the Palisade @Risk is definitely a good choice, but the time lock (1 year if registered online) somewhat deflates the enthusiasm knowing that at some future date your software will cease to work. I bought the @129 upgrade but jumped through hoops with palisades (their authorization code did not undo the time lock and tech support argued that it was a publisher issue--in the long run they discovered a problem with the software where it was not taking the time lock off the application as designed.) I do like the 2nd edition's choice of larger fonts and the broader examples. I am still yet disappointed that unlike many other quality text books, the text does not include answers to 'odd' or even selected problems. I don't think the authors realize that their text is used by professionals looking to develop workplace skills and are not necessarily enrolled in a formal academic setting. Nevertheless, I bought the second edition because I think management science is a terribly valuable skill to have and that the authors have published the best book in the area of MS.

Very Pleased
I am a business unit manager who frequently purchases books and software to maintain my level of competence in operations management, and I recently purchased the second edition of this book, copyright 2001. I have found it to be a great value, and agree with the reviewers the earlier edition who found it to be a very fine text on Operations Research. It comes with the standard version of Palisade's Decision Tools software, which is just outstanding. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to anyone. Additionally, there's an option to upgrade to a fully licensed edition of this software at a greatly reduced price; the student version that comes with the book is fully functional, but is only licensed one year for students, 30 days for professionals. Microsoft doesn't give their software away for free either.

Haunting
This is a beautiful collection of stories. The writing is vivid, the character portrayal rich with detail and emotional depth. I remain haunted by what I read in this book: the unsettling images, the keen insight into a town on the other side of the globe, the energy of the characters. This ranks among the best-written books of short stories that I have read, and I heartily recommend it.

A wonderful and touching look at Guatemala & its people
Mark Brazaitis has done a wonderful job of capturing the human experience in this terrific collection. I found myself being drawn into each of the stories and falling in love with the characters. His use of magical realism captures the spirit of Latin American literature perfectly. I highly recommend this collection and look forward to reading future works by this extremely talented new writer.

Excellent, compassionate
This is an extraordinary look at what may seem like an ordinary town. The stories here vary from the horrific ("Jose Del Rio") to the mournful ("The Whale") to the humorous ("How They Healed") to the epic ("Bathwater"). Throughout the collection, the author shows immense compassion for his characters.

Traditional IRA vs. Roth IRA Conversion
I am over 65 and have found the "Roth IRA Book, An Investor's Guide" by Dr. Gobind Daryanani to be an excellent information source. There are a number of factors to be considered in evaluating the the conversion of a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. Dr.Daryanani's book is an excellent supplement to IRS Publication 590 (Individual Retirement Arrangements) since it explains and clarifies many potential problem areas. His book is well organized and written in clear understandable language. The book, together with reference to Pub. 590, provided the information I needed to feel comfortable in my IRA planning and execution.

Step-by-step, help you determine if a ROTH is right for you
This book takes some pretty complicated number crunching and makes sense our of it. It walks you step-by-step throught the calcualtions to determine what kind of benefit a ROTH IRA would provide to you. After reading you should easily be able to tell if the ROTH IRA is the best choice for you. Additionally, if you have other funds eligible for rollover into a ROTH IRA, the book helps you determine the optimum rollover amount. I thought is was very well written.

The best book on the topic.
I've been reading a lot about the Roth and this is the most complete treatment I've seen. This is easy to follow and complete. I'm happy to have read it and have already saved money.

A book of hope
I strongly encourage everyone to buy and read this book. This book tells the story of what it is like to be female in apartheid South Africa. Do not pass up this opportunity to learn more about the legendary Mathabane family!

No more complaining...
...about my life, my educational opportunities, my social status. Miriam's Song should be required reading for all spoiled brats who think their lives are difficult. Shame on me for ever taking education for granted! Shame on me for ever complaining that my opportunities in the US are limited because of my gender! This book left an indelible mark on my social consciousness. Not just a touching and eye-opening memoir, but also a story of fierce determination and strength, Miriam's Song ranks among my must-reads. Her story is inspiring and her candid writing makes the reader feel as if she is sitting right there in the room, like an new friend telling you about her life. The text does not attempt to justify or rationalize or otherwise explain the social structure, and is remarkably pure in its telling of Miriam's story. Because this book is free from philisophy and pontification about wrong and right, fair and unfair, here-and-there comparisons, the reader is left to come to these realizations on his/her own and thus the story becomes most poignant. I find myself wondering how Miriam is doing now, and would welcome another book including the rest of her story and her observations of the US. Whole-heartedly recommended. Finished it yesterday and loaned it to a friend today.

Eye opening book
How nice it is to sit in our American homes and vaguely read of the troubles of South Africa. I am ashamed to have never paid more attention to this subject. This is a riveting book that takes you past the superficial headlines and into the lives of the blacks who suffered under apartheid.

The Mathabane family lives in a suburb of Johannesburg, in a one-square mile ghetto that is home to over 200,000 people (400,000 by the end of the book). Employment is hard to come by--for one to work, one must have a permit. But to get a permit, one must have a job.

Their home is a two room shack, where four of the children sleep on the kitchen floor. There is a communal tap outside. Raw sewage runs in the street outside their door. Black children are only allowed to be taught certain subjects in a certain manner, and Miriam and her classmates are routinely beaten for any infraction--mistakes in schoolwork, uncombed hair, nails that are dirty/too long, wearing dirty bloomers, or not wearing bloomers at all. (These people live in complete poverty, and it was not uncommon for children to not have underwear.) The young teenage girls are easy targets of sexual abuse. Many become pregnant, single mothers, unable to finish school.

While the story is unbelievably horrifying, their outlook is one of constant hope and faith. I am unable to get this family out of my mind, and I will be reading Mark Mathabane's autobiographical books as soon as I get my hands on them...This is an amazing story of how people in other parts of the world live. I strongly recommend this book.

Truly appealing to all Flux fans, and maybe others as well.
This book is the perfect thing for all fans of the animated series. Not only does it have a truly entertaining plot, but is also more like a file than a book. I loved it, and the illlustrations are wonderful. The only negative side was when I finished the book and I wanted much much more! If you're a fan, you have to have it! The book gives you some backround info on other episodes that helps a lot to know. Very nice book! Hinks mynx, the old witch winks...

Precious
There is never enough Aeon. Ever. I have the pvc statue, the 3 vhs set and the DVD. I've dressed as her for halloween 2 times and probably will again some day with improvied outfits. This is a must for any Flux fan, lots of cool pictures, it's a case file on her and gives a little insight into the story, but not too much.

Good tie-in to the series, highly enjoyable
I have read the other customer reviews and none of them really say what I think about this book. It is a vision to the Flux world via book instead of Tv. It provides a great deal of useless facts which you would like to know about Aeon. I found it very fun to read actually. It is so unlike a comic book, except for the last few pages, and is just fun to flip through. For instance did you know Aeon has bullet fragments in her left leg and a nipple ring? Hopefully you'll enjoy it has much has I did

Clinical description of the V8 models
This book provides detailed descriptions of most V8 models (it leaves out the 355 and 360) and the year by year changes. It is useful for somebody who is trying to select a specific model to purchase or possibly as a reference for concours preparation. As a book to read cover to cover, it isn't terribly compelling because only objective facts are given and there is no hint about what it is like to drive the cars. There also aren't any performance figures. I'm certain the author never actually drove any of the models, just looked up the detailed facts. There also are frequent repetition of facts in the book -- the same point might be explained 3 times for a particular model. It's a good book for contrasting the models, but don't expect to get any insight about how the different models drive.

Not a book for beginers
If you're thinking in buying a Ferrari V8 this book will help you and ask your questions every time. It gives you the opportunity to overview all the original equipment and specifications of your dream car. It also will tell you which spares are the most likely to break down and what's the one needed exactly for your car. Plenty of information (in fact many useless information, true), nice pictures and some restauration technique will help your Ferrari come again to an "as new look and feeling". Only complain is the lack of information on some "rare" models.

Thorough review of original configurations but disappointing
This book provides a thorough overview of original equipment and specifications, but it is disappointing in its lack of perspective. It would be more useful if it compared and contrasted models and gave would-be purchasers and restorers an idea of what to look for in a potential purchase.

Undeniably original, but not encouraging
Zeeland and Simpson don't deny they blanketed this collaboration with dark humor, and the title is pretty indicative of what's inside. And the book cover ain't too bad! But the book, certainly original and not a gay manuscript that can be pigeon-holed into any single category like how to find the love of your life or how to put the fireworks back into sex with the same guy, its apparent purpose is to throw caution to the wind about any real hope for romance and a continuing relationship and how the insecure among us usually sabotage a promising lead. And Zeeland and Simpson certainly hit a chord of realism as they pretty much lay out where an inordinate number gay sexual encounters and relationships lead if they're caught up in the promiscuous subculture of the gay lifestyle, the neuroses and fears of guys looking for more than a night of groaning and sweating and an annoying preoccupation with how we perform in bed (or an SU van). The authors don't offer us much hope in the way of telling us how to step over the pitfalls on the road toward a gay happily-ever-after, but they do warn us of what we can expect. Dark humor, certainly, and it'll offer great reading for the gay guy not looking for how to find a lifelong lover or reignite a relationship gone stale. If you're looking for that, this book will probably depress you into heterosexualism.

The Over- Examined Life is a Pain in the Arse
If the unexamined life is meaningless, then the over-examined life is a pain in the "arse". This is not a frivolous, "let me tell you how I got laid last night" type of book. Rather, it is an often lyrical, but never sentimental look at the need to bond, and the just as equally strong impulse to be alone. In the end, one senses that the two writers recognize that all enduring relationships are "the union fo two solitudes" and the only choice is whether such unions are ultimately informed with kindness or bitterness. One wishes that an ocean and a continent did not keep these two soulmates apart.

Fascinating and Enlightening
... Simpson and Zeeland are perfectly matched, their style complements one another marvellously - Simpson witty and provocative, Zeeland preferring comedic understatement and wry observation, which is why the 'love story' of their letters is so affecting. Zeeland's account of his brush with Andrew Cunanan, a rival for the affections of a young Marine is particularly hilarious and fascinating - and enlightening.
