If you wish your child liked history!
What a way to teach a disinterested child history! The facts are all there even better researched than those so-called textbooks our children use in school.

This style of writing involves your child into the lessons and I bet they won't even realize they are learning history by reading this book!

Now I am off to by the other one and look forward to the next book soon to hit the shelves I hope!

Imagery + Surrealism = Pop Realism
After reading this book, I reckon that Andy Warhol was a man of unpredictable genius. Imbedded in his images is the poetic appeal and the simultaneous pop and avante-garde timelessness of his art. He made the serious and the comic blend well. He balanced the beau monde and the classless. His colour choices evoked and exposed the hidden images within his works, and they simply slither in mind once you stare at them. Unlike some new generation artists or wannabees who only splash their canvasses with colours, sometimes of uncompromising combinations, every artwork of Warhol is alive, moving and his concept comprehensive. Here is a pop artist who is wildly prolific! As a freelance writer and editor doing articles on design and who works within the pop culture, I'd say his works are more than simply decoratives. They speak with you and are nothing less than enthralling. I feel terrific owning a copy! This is a treasureable read.

Anesthesiology, 1999-2000 Edition

A great quick reference in Anesthesiology
This a great quick review, suitable for medical students interested in Anesthesiology, as well as Residents and House-officers. It offers clear, concise information and guidlines in an easy to use format. It will be most helpful for those in need of a quick reference of anesthesia protocols and procedures. It is not detailed enough to serve as a primary text, but is more than adequate for a quick review, or as a pocket refernce. I have found it to be the best pocket reference currently available and recommend it strongly. Its only weakness is that the section on pediatric Anesthesia could use an update, but it is valuable none the less.

Great stories with unpredicable endings!!!
First of all, Origin of the Species isn't Grant Morrison's first TPB dealing with Animal Man; it's his second, and includes issues 10-17. The first TPB included issues 1-9, and was a pretty good collection all by itself.

To me, however, Morrison didn't figure out what he wanted to do with Animal Man until he began writing Origin of the Species.

The series starts off with a unique twist on the "oh so typical" origin story. Anyone who's read comics for a while knows the cliches involved in a hero's origin, especially if that origin took place in the 60's or 70's. Morrison takes our knowledge of the cliche and runs with it, combining Animal Man's old origin with a new one to make him more modern. If you haven't laughed out loud by the time you finish reading the "origin", then you aren't a true comic fan.

This "muddling up the status-quo" starts a trend that Morrison plays with again and again. The idea that, even though Animal Man is a character in a comic book, he can (and does) have interactions with the real world may sound crazy, but Morrison pulls it off. You actually start to feel sorry for Animal Man by the end of the book, because you start to realize how truly helpless a comic book character is when compared to the all-powerful artist who is drawing him!

One final point to mention: There is a story in this collection that deals with animal rights, and dolphins are used to drive the point home. The story is incredibly powerful, will make you look at animals differently, and may even bring a tear to your eye. Many comic readers count this story as one of their all time favorites, right up there with Alan Moore's and Frank Miller's stuff.

In the big picture, this span of stories is only part 2 in the eventual 3 part Animal Man saga. But if you only buy 1 of the 3 parts, this is the one to buy!

Heartwarming, touching and brings tears of joy to your eyes
This book, the third book in the Anne of Green Gables series, tells the story of Anne Shirley coming to Redmond College. During the four years,Anne learns a lot of things about life, and her adventures are both funny and heartwarming. People who have read Anne's previous adventures in Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea will enjoy another wonderful Anne of Green Gables story, set in the beautiful, lush green Prince Edward Island,Cananda. This book is also better understood if you have read Anne's other adventures in the previous books. After they have read this book, they might want to go on and read Anne's life after college in Anne of Windy Poplars. You might want to read all the way up to the eighth book which tells about Anne's daughter, all grown up!

can't seize the land before it's been described
This is a story of dispossession and of cultural memory. Mark Warhus reveals an astonishing legacy of native American cartography. Most of the maps are snapshots of important moments in the collision of two cultures. Some of these maps are the absolute last artifacts of tribes who have disappeared, such as the maps of Shanawdithit (Nancy) the last surviving member of the Beothucks (or Red Indians of Newfoundland).

Other maps demonstrate the deep ties to tribal lands once lost but more recently regained.

Native American mapmaking is almost indistinguishable from oral history. Therefore, these maps are also historical treasures.

The pictures do the talking
This is a beautiful book which covers some of Kiefer's best work in painting as well as his photo-montage and book making activities. A small and eloquent tribute and forward leave adequate room for many full color reproductions (some double-paged) of paintings, large black and white photos taken by the artist, photos of installations and performances and reproductions of selections from his book makings. The reproductions are bright and clear and attempt to give you an adequate view of the texture and matter that Kiefer paints with. Kiefer is one of the most prodigious and poetic artists of our time. He stands out individually in our present, sometimes cynical art atmosphere in the age of post-modern theory. These are magical paintings that contain deep myth and meaning. A truly beautiful book on beautiful and revealing art that can change your view of the world.

Excellent book on C
This book is really more of a reference for developers already familiar with C than an introduction to C. Even experienced C programmers will learn more about the language and the runtime library. It is very well written, easy to read, and provides excellent examples.

The Best of World Poetry
This is the best anthology I've encountered of World Poetry, an area Americans are either forgetful of, chauvanistic toward, or have been talked out of by theorists arguing the impossibility of translation. This anthology contains great poetry from 18 traditions, including Chinese, Sanskrit, Italian, and Scandinavian, in great translations by such poets as Chaucer, Swinburne, Rossetti, and many more. It is not a Modern anthology, it is a Classic. Read the great poems of the great traditions in translations by great poets.

A fantastic book!
At long last, an authoritative book on garden ornament in America! Barbara Israel delivers a beautiful tome with scholarly punch in her Antique Garden Ornament: Two Centuries of American Taste. Many books exist on gardens and landscape history, but none addresses the issue of the statues, fountains, and furniture used within them with such depth and clarity as Ms. Israel. In addition to the chapters themselves, the catalogue of objects in the back of the book and the list of makers provide a greatly needed reference for this growing field. I highly recommend this book.
