Interesting, but NOT an identification guide
This book is primarily a guide to the distribution of Japanese birds, and the historical record of their locations. Brazil lists every species ever seen in Japan and tells where and when it is found (by prefecture, island, or even more specific location if the bird is rare). Then he describes its habitat, nesting habits and seasons, and usually its calls. Finally, he lists the authorities who have described it and summarizes the large regions in which it has been seen.

Nowhere does he discuss the birds' appearances at all. There are six nice color plates and some excellent line drawings, but in total these show only about 100 birds, and are not planned with identification in mind in any case.

Brazil includes an amazing bibliography, totaling over 1000 entries going back to the early 1800s. The bibliography alone is worth the price of the book. In his text, however, he does not limit his citations to the bibliography but also references a large number his own personal observations and communications from other observers.

Mark Brazil is a major authority on Japanese birds, and this book is valuable in many ways. But it is in no sense an identification guide.

Good, but not typical Aragones picture cartoons
If you're looking for the classic no-words Aragones comics, then don't get this book. It is more like the comics you read in the papers.

Book Review for The Book of the Bible..
The Book of the Bible All Your Questions Answered is a nice little reference book. It has many quotes and many answers that would suit a beginner in the search for the Eternal Truth. The book is laid out so the reader can look for quick answers to questions. The chapters have sub-sections that start out with a question and then presents the answer right below it. Many of the answers to the questions contradict the Roman Catholic Church' teachings, but it is a nice, simple book for Christians.

My opinions regarding the Book od the Kindred
If you already have the sourcebooks for Vampire: The Masquerade or The Guide to the Camarilla, you may not want this book. It provides some information about each of the clans in the Camarilla (Pre Gangrel departure, vampric vernacular, explanations of some terms, the Traditions of the Camarilla as well as the Book of Nod. You may like to buy the book for the stories it contains or for allowing a beginner to read it and get a feel for the World of Darkness rather than throwing the game books at them. I believe that would be the most useful part of this book, for loaning to someone who has not played Vampire: The Masquerade before to learn about what they may have to expect in the games as well as observing current gaming sessions. The stories may give an insight to the new player of the adult horror and themes of Vampire.

The British aristocracy
Published in Unknown Binding by Constable ()

A good introduction
The authors begin with the basics -- the difference between "nobility" and "aristocracy" and the essential prerequisite to both: "the right to be called a gentleman." They move on to a thoughtful historical analysis of the British sort of aristocracy, including its manifestations in Scotland and Ireland, and the development of the aristocratic character and end with its place (if any) in the modern world. Of particular interest are the chapters on two rogue subgroups -- the great landowning families who are nevertheless untitled commoners and those military or professional middle-class families who achieved titles without possessing much acreage. The unannotated bibliography is a useful starting point for further reading. All in all, a well-informed and well-written treatment by two blokes with hyphenated names.

Brownfields Redevelopment -- Programs & Strategies . . .
Brownfields Redevelopment -- Programs and Strategies for Fehabilitating Contaminated Real Estate takes a survey look at the varied programs available to developers, municipalities, non-profits and environmental professionals. The book is not geared towards professionals or others familiar with the basics of Brownfields Redevelopment. Futher, the book addresses numerous state programs (all which vary from one extreme to the other) and touches on several topics related to funding sources (public and private grants/loans).

The Brownfield Redevelopment market is rapidly changing, as is the government approach towards Brownfield properties. This book was written using gross generalities and relatively dated case studies. When I read about the book, I expected more detailed information on the varied case studies. Instead, upon purchasing the book, I got simple announcements that simply stated "my town, USA, received a US EPA Brownfield Grant for $200,000. The Regional contact representative is John Doe." Do not expect more detail.

They do have a relatively comprehensive section addressing contact names and numbers with most regulatory agencies. However, if one can surf the web, most of the information can be easily obtained via the internet.

The book may prove worthwhile reading for someone interested in gaining a survey knowledge of the Brownfield industry. Those with more advanced knowledge. . . yawn.

not as good as "how to lie with maps"
This is a decent book touching on Gerrymandering of congressional and other districts in order to select the population within each district to guarantee politicians of certain parties getting elected, however, the author's partisanship (leftist) shows through: he coins a word ("Bushmander") to pin Gerrymandering on Republicans, when in fact this behavior has been historically concentrated on the left, both because of Democractic Machine politics, and because of affirmative action racial preferences applied to electoral mechanics. The author thus blames Bush I even though the vast majority of the racial gerrmandering was invited by the Voting Rights Act, a Democratic initiative, and was done by social activists with in the Justice Department in an attempt to create more African American (i.e. "Democratic") districts...but the unintended consequence of this was to simultaneously create more monolithic Republican districts at the same time. In fact, as even the author is forced to admit, the Republicans argued against racial gerrymandering...but this does not stop the Republican administrations under which much of the gerrymandering took place from getting blame, both in the book and in the book's title, for the very policies they fought.

C/C++ Software Quality Tools

useful look at "everything else" that developers use
Mark Murphy's C/C++ Software Quality Tools looks at what your current programming environment ought to provide, but probably doesn't. Along with three introductory chapters, two chapters on testing in general, and a brief concluding chapter, Murphy gives us one chapter on each of six different quality-assurance tools. Its major weakness is its use of a home-grown scripting language.

Like Other Storyteller Guides, this one is a mixed bag.
This book is your standard issue Storyteller guide. Complete with Q&A, essays on changeling, alternate histories and locations, etc. While I am a big fan of Changeling, I must say that this book is a very average addition to the series. Nothing really revoltingly bad (Like the editing in "Inanime; the Secret Way), nothing really extradordinarily good (Like the... well Changeling doesn't really have a great book). Just a very average book with some nice ideas. Get it if you must, skip it if you must. No difference.
