A must have book for anyone concerned for auto safety
This is a very well written book with prooving statistics - a very unbiased and credible book on the reasons behind America's irresponsibility and negligence for auto safety - and why we have failed in lowering death rates due to high-speed related accidents. This book explains in great detail the German philosophy of road safety and accident prevention that has gone to provide the world's safest automobiles and high speed auto networks. I'd recommend this book for a teenager beginning to drive so that he/she breaks the typical American-attitude towards auto safety.

American Autobahn
This book tracks the history of our interstate and the autobahn highways and presents compelling statistics that prove that our system of draconian speed enforcement plus artificially low speed limits is not working. There are numerous charts and graphs that show that Germany's fatality rate on the Autobahn has been consistently below ours for a number of years, while speeds have been rising on both systems. The author points out how and why we should be trying to generate support for upgrades to our highway system while conducting an experiment to increase and/or remove speed limits on our less crowded interstates.

If you drive on the interstate, you must read this book!
This book should be required reading for all current and future interstate drivers. Rask provides a compelling argument as to why our interstate system is failing us, and what we can do to change it. If I could afford it, I would send a copy to each of my Congressmen.

The Art of Programming With Visual Basic

The Art of Programming With Visual Basic
This and Code Complete are my favorite programming books, and I have read a bunch. This book is hilarious, his stories are out there. Covers a good number of real world difficulties that other books don't cover. I wish this guy would write more, he is a genius.

Dated for VB but timeless advice in general
Mark Warhol has given us a book full of very sound advice for writing real, maintainable applications. The programming tips are applicable to any language; I work mostly in Tcl/TK and Perl where Mark's advice holds just as well as in VB. It's a darn shame this one is now out of print. A note to Wiley & Sons: bring it back!

The best programming book I have ever read
While dated in specific VB examples (it was written for VB3), this book is far more important in what it teaches you about the programming industry in general. It teaches how to write clean, structured code, and what to expect as a professional programmer. Anyone who writes code for a living should buy this book immediately, regardless of whether you're just out of school, or have been in the industry for years.

Great book with easy to read style.
Ever feel like your next meeting is sure to be one big headache??? This is just what the doctor ordered for those of us who struggle to generate the next great idea! The authors go to great lengths to offer meaningful examples of what works and what doesn't work in creatively solving problems and reaching for that next level of excellence. A must read for anyone serious about getting the most out of every meeting! I highly recommend this book.

A Book with Substance
I have read many of the self help books that seem to be flooding the market and I approached this title with an air of skepticism. This feeling soon turned to pleasure as I found the authors concerned not only with providing a theoretical foundation for their concepts, but also with the inclusion of concrete examples of how to apply the lessons. For example, I have been in many sessions where new ideas are sought to address a problem and while an air of creativity is encouraged, truly off-the-wall, innovative ideas are dismissed off hand without any assessment of how their implementation might solve the issue at hand. As a graduate school instructor, I plan to use the concepts presented in this book in my classes where I try to instill an innovative technique to creativity, problem solving and critical thinking. I strongly recommend this book and look forward to future collaborations of Sebell and Yocum.

Create a winning company
Now more than ever, with all the uncertainty and turbulence we're going through, all CEOs, managers and team leaders need to read Ban the Humorous Bazooka. As we all know, the world has changed; nothing will ever be the same; and that means businesses must question all assumptions, develop new plans for profitability and success, and discover and implement new ideas for products/services as well as new ways of running the business itself. It's time for true innovation!

This book helps the reader understand what innovation really is, how to "get out of the box" in generating and developing new ideas AND in using tried and true methods for turning those ideas into viable, profitable results. The authors offer great insights into the roadblocks and barriers in all individuals and all organizations that prevent the kind of innovation that is needed... and then they present techniques that are practical, avoid the typical, predictable problems, and produce amazing results. There are lots of examples and tips that make these techniques easy to understand and easy to follow.

Read this book. Give it to all the managers and team leaders in the company. And then get busy getting all the teams in your company on the track to create the kind of innovation that will make your company a winner.

An interesting book
The author writes in a clear manner and fits a lot of interesting information into a fairly small book (about 50,000 words in 215 5X7 inch pages). He gets slightly technical -- about the right amount for a tyro like me.
I found his defense of evolution in chapter 3 to be particularly thought provoking. The author makes the point that there is no single cause, no essence, and no blue print for some complex processes -- "There are only the parts and their interactions". The mathematically inclined may wish to see a half-million word expansion of this theme in S. Wolfram's "A New Kind of Science".
I noticed a couple of errors:

- Latitude and longitude get swapped from page 65 to page 67.

- Page 30 states that dogs breathe at 30-40 breaths/minute or pant at 300-400 breaths/minute, and they do not breathe at any in between rate. I timed my dog panting at about 180 breaths per minute.

Fascinating and fun
Get ready to embark on a truly exciting and entertaining round-the-world voyage of discovery. And it won't take 80 days, either. In just 215 pages and in beautiful prose, Mark Blumberg explains the vitally important connection between temperature and life on Earth.

Body Heat not only answers questions that I've always wondered about but also answers questions that I've never even thought to ask. For example, before I read this book, I didn't know how Antarctic fish survive (answer: antifreeze in their blood) or how male penguins manage to incubate eggs while enduring temperatures of -76 degrees F (answer: I won't spoil it for you). On the opposite end of the thermometer-at 185 degrees F-is the bacterium that thrives within hydrothermal vents more than one mile below the surface of the ocean. As the author so rightly puts it, "These are the true athletes of the extreme." And then there are the enlightening discussions about those aspects of our lives that are much closer to home - thermostats, peppers, sleep, fevers, dogs, obesity, anorexia, language, behavior, and babies, just to name a few. It's amazing how much information can be shared when the language is clear and purposeful.

As told in this treasure of a book - with humor ("Pluto is cold; Chicago in January is merely inconvenient"), a passion for his subject, and a marvelous ability to draw on diverse subjects as well as personal experiences to tell this story - the tale of temperature and life on Earth is fascinating indeed.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
This is a thoroughly enjoyable book. The publisher's weekly reviewer's criticism is misdirected. I guarantee that you will enjoy this book, and annoy the hell out of your friends/family quoting them little tidbits. I particularly enjoyed the author's discussion of the design of experiments, in his lab and in the lab's of other scientists, for various purposes. Highly recommended.

Jeff Watts Review
I thought the book expressed rasism and reality about the world as it was during their time. These issues were a concern to Jim and Huck but in actualality Huck never realized that Jim was being treated unfairly. This lets us learn that racism cannot go on and that it needs to change during our time. That is why the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was an outstanding novel for kids to read.

Superb!
I never thought I'd be around long enough to experience a performance of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as successful as this by Patrick Fraley. I've lived with this text for over 40 years and thought I knew it well. But listening to Fraley has made me discover new dimensions, increasing greatly my already enormous appreciation of Clemens' masterful work. Listening to Fraley read "Mark Twain" is almost as much a pleasure as listening to Miriam Margolyes read Charles Dickens. "It don't get no better than that."

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
As you might have already known, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" is one of Mark Twain's classics. It was written based on Mark Twain's best friend when he was a child. I have written a review on it because I think this book should not be forgotten.

Huckleberry Finn is only fourteen when he runs away from his brutal father........
Yet another one of Mark Twain's classics, Huckleberry Finn amazed me with its plot. On the previous book about Tom Sawyer, comes Huckleberry Finn; Tom's best friend.
Young Huckleberry Finn was adopted by a widow and all was going quite well until the footsteps Huck saw on the snow...... The footsteps on the snow were in the way that his father always leaves behind. So, this means that Huck's cruel father has come back! The six thousand dollars Tom and Huck found in the previous book was safe in the bank but not anymore. Now that Huck's father is back, he wouldn't leave until he got the money.
Huck's father has tried many ways to get Huck's money but fails every time. Soon, Huck's father captures Huck and locks him inside a wooden cabin in the woods. Huck's father now wanted both his son and his money.....
Luckily, before long Huck plans an outstanding escape to Jackson Island and meets up with an old runaway slave; Jim. There, the two starts an amazing trip down the great Mississippi river. They're destination is freedom, Cairo; where Jim could be free. Unfortunately, while traveling on the river both of them meets many strangers and must outwit them to stay uncaught and alive.

This book is highly recommended for those who thirst for excitement, action and adventures. The plot in this story is indescribable; it's full of breath-taking adventures and the way that Mark Twain could describe the feelings of a child is unbelievable.
This book would be a perfect book back in the days Mark Twain wrote it; however, the slang in this book might be hard to follow for people nowadays. Even though that the slang he used might confuse us, the writing in this book is still excellent and would be recommended.
Even though that I judge this a good book, I do feel that once in a while the book would suddenly skip from one adventure to the other. Overall, I do think that this book is worth reading and I would give this book; five "Stars". (See the rating chart below for more details)
If you compare Mark Twain's previous book; Tom Sawyer with Huckleberry Finn, I would say that Huckleberry Finn contains much more action, adventure and excitement. However, if you like more of psychology and more of a calmer plot, Tom Sawyer would be a better book for you. However, my final recommendation would be for you to read Huckleberry Finn as it is fit for the whole family to read and enjoy.
If you have already read this book and liked it, I would also recommend you reading

The author of this book, Mark Twain was a famous writer and had many other jobs as well. Mark Twain was a very superstitious person since that he was born on the day that Halley's Comet was passing the earth and died when it returned. Mark Twain's actual name was Samuel Lang-Horne Clemens, he was born and raised in the state of Missouri. His father died when he was only twelve and so he left school to earn a living. He traveled around America as a journeyman printer. Later, Samuel went back to the Mississippi river to be a steamboat pilot. During the Civil War, steam boating was put to an end forcing Samuel to join the Confederate army. However, he soon extracted himself from it and became an extremely successful journalist.
He was sent to the Mediterranean to do a series of articles after the war. This inspired him to be a writer and so he started to write books about his childhood which made him a fortune.

Sex is Super!
WOMEN BE WARNED: reading this book could cause you to laugh out loud as you flash back on those "Superficial Men" you have known!

If you like HBO's "Sex in the City", you'll love this collection of devastatingly accurate snapshots, caricatures and x-rays of the naked male libido.

STILL LAUGHING
Yes,Im still laughing at superficial man.Fianally a book that tells the truth about dating....Wish I had read it twenty years ago. Im giving it to my daughter as a gift...I can't wait to read AJ.S SEQUEL.I loved the illustrations they reminded me of a superficial man i knew.

Naked Truth
The content of this book certainly rings true to each and every one of us at one time or another in our lives. It reminds us that human beings do indeed have a common thread. A.J. Pascale certainly captures that in a fabulously humorous way, with creative and entertaining illustrations to match. It's obvious he has a good sense of humor about the path of his own life, and we can all appreciate the fact that he so openly shares his perspective with us. We've certainly all been there, and it sure would be a far better world if we could all laugh at ourselves like this!

Very effective method.
I have thorougly enjoyed this audio series. I am not quite done, but the results have been very impressive. The method of learning used on the CDs is fast, easy and enjoyable. It's not perfect, however. There are several discrepencies and errors in the book. Dispite that, I would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn the basics of the Spanish language quickly.

Escuedo
The cd's were great and the fast delivery was exellent!
I've been learning spanish in a night school and it really didn't do as much for me as the cd's and book has!
It is so easy to just sit in the car and think about speaking spanish because no one can hear you and you can say it as loud as you want which really helps.

Excellent Content and Instruction
If you really want to speak Spanish fast and without a hassle, 'Behind the Wheel Spanish' has everyone beat. The
course is a serious 'no frills' down to earth practical and easy approach to learning Spanish.
I am not kidding when I tell you I was speaking the language with the first CD about 10 minutes into the course.
The audio content and book are the best I have used. The instruction is excellent !! And all my CDs were recorded and housed in a new vinyl album along with the book which was also very effective.

A new author's perspective
This book has been very helpful to me in preparing a proposal for potential agents. The ten points to help write a manuscript were also useful, however I already knew most of them. It's REAL strength was in outlining and detailing the process for writing, fine tuning and submitting a proposal, and tips on HOW to present it to agents. It isn't enough to write the next great American novel - if you can't get an agent to look at it on the strength of your outline and synopsis it's just going to gather dust on a shelf. That is the true worth of this book, it was more helpful to me in preparing and sending my proposal than any other publication or person before or since.

Daunted No More
Book Report is a very useful guide that I turned to again and again while crafting my book proposal. I was impressed by the author's ability to not only cover the nuts and bolts of writing a proposal, but also to succinctly convey what makes a quality proposal. Particularly useful were the parenthetical tips the author inserted throughout samples in the appendix. With Mark Shaw's style and ability to anticipate writers' questions and omissions, I felt like I had a mentor by my side leading me through what had been a daunting process.

A Spirited Read
A rich and varied compendium of interesting, entertaining, and thoughtful quotes on drinking, Bottled Wisdom is the perfect tonic for the ill-view that a minority in our society take toward the culture of alcohol. Best shared with a friend over a tasty beverage, this book offers humorous and thoughtful quotes. In fact, some of the best quotes are surprising in content and authorship. Just as a visit to a quality bar should be, this anthology will make you smile, laugh, and reflect on life. You will make new friends and be happy to see some old cronies in these pages. Pollman has done his homework and offers a varied and rich anthology. Reigle's illustrations are good and complement the text without overpowering the words. For the imbiber that has everything, this book is the perfect holiday gift.

A brilliant collection of witty anecdotes
Mark Pollman's book, "Bottled Wisdom", is my defense against the British opinion that nothing American can possibly be as good as the "English way". Pub owners, employees and patrons here in London have been fascinated by Mark's book (ps, Mark, you may have some more new customers!) -- a thoroughly enjoyable read. One word of warning: don't read while drinking, unless your fellow imbibers don't mind being sprayed when you laugh uncontrollably!

Every bar should have a copy
Wit, wisdom, and little known facts of the world of spirits fill these pages. I have a worn out copy on my bar in my house. Guests always pick it up to glance throught it and end up putting it down hours later... A definte must for every person who enjoys spirits. Every bar should have one as well.

A Great Addition to any "Work Abuse " Toolkit
This book helped to "fill in the holes" for me. I am a manager who has witnessed innumerable incidents aptly described in this book. There are no "official" guidelines or information available from my employer for addressing this phenomenon...if it doesn't fall within the classical "legal" definition of harassment...many of my peers either ignore the behavior, engage in the behavior or collude with the "system" to perpetuate it. This book and another great book, "Work Abuse: How To Recognize and Survive It" by Judith Wyatt and Chauncey Hare have been invaluable aids in helping me to identify and implement actions that have strengthened my management skills, by encouraging change and authentic healing.

bullies (liars) are everywhere
Bullies get what they need personally because one of their major needs is to look good at the expense of others, especially in a
workplace that allows such behavior to multiply. Government organizations where executives prefer to isolate themselves from frontline workers are particularly vulnerable since the lies that bullies pass on to executives are accepted as de facto truth. Managing by walking around is unheard of in these places.

excellent theoretical foundation
This book provided the one thing I found missing in all the similar books I have read: a valid theoretical explanation of why bullying occurs -- the characteristics and dynamics of both the targets and the bullies. Essentially, bullies and targets (victims of bullies) come in all varieties, except that targets have one quality in common: they foster collaboration. Bullies, in turn, also have one trait in common: they are hierarchial. This leads to the inevitable crash when the bully percieves that the target is "giving away" the very things that the bully wishes to "sell". The driving force behind bulling is the need to control other people. The vulnerability of targets lies in their incomprehension of why anyone would want to control others when they could instead cooperate with them. These mental models are fundamentally incompatible. In addition, bullies are comfortable using aggression to gain control while cooperators are not. Bullies want to crush targets, targets want to "get along" with bullies. This really excellent book explains the basis for the mental models, the dynamics of the interaction between bullies and targets, and offers targets strategies for survival.
