A life lesson for all of us
I read the book after hearing about it on tv, and have sent it to my great nieces. You see I am like Willy I am also in a wheelchair. I have never gotten to see my great-nieces in person and hope that when they reed the book and their mom explains to them that I am (like Willy) in a wheelchair that they cn understand why I haven't been able to come see them (they are in Oregon and I am in Missouri). Willy is a courageous pup and we can all learn from him how to face life's adversities.

Not sappy, just truly inspirational - in the best way!
I find that the best inspirational tales come from real life - and this book is no exception. I saw the owner of Willy (yes, there actually is a real Willy) on Animal Planet and knew I just had to buy the book. It is as charming as expected and not just because of spunky little Willy, whose back legs are paralyzed and who has to learn to "walk" again, with the help of a special wheel-cart. It is just as inspiring to read of his owner's attempts to find a way to get him walking - using everything from acupuncture to helium balloons to hold up the back legs. A great read for the entire family!

A story of love & courage for all ages
Willy the Chihuahua lives at an animal hospital, because his back legs don't work. He dreams of having a home and a family and playing with other animals and chasing sticks. Then one day, a pretty lady comes and takes him home with her! Willy meets his new brother, another Chihuahua named Sweet Pea, and his new sister, a fluffy silver cat named Marshmallow.

Willy still can't walk or run, and has to use his front legs to drag himself from place to place, until his new mother tries some different ideas to help him get around--with often humorous results.

Filled with bright, gorgeous watercolor illustrations that even pre-readers can appreciate, HOW WILLY GOT HIS WHEELS is the story of a loveable and courageous little dog. Written for age levels 5-10, it's a book that everyone from toddlers to adults can enjoy on many levels. Authors Turner and Mohler have done a tremendous job of showing life from a physically disabled viewpoint without preaching or patronizing. Here's hoping we will get to hear more of Willy's adventures in the near future!

Charming & Amazing
I am so happy I found a book with plentiful Glamour photos. I especially love the Norma Shearer pics and the Rosalind Russell pics (especially the rather gothic cloak pic.) This book is not only insightful about how the pics were done but who Hurrell was. Truly beautiful and a must for any coffee table and/or collector.

I'm very happy to have this book in my library
Once upon a time, I was reading Empire magazine and suddenly I saw a promotion of The book Hurrell's Hollywood Portraits. The cover picture was very impressive. I didn't know George Hurrell before. As soon as I saw the picture, I decided to buy this book. So, after buying it and see the pictures inside, I just said: Wow! What a photographer he was. He's a genius. His works are magnificent. Great use of light and remarkable composition are the typical of his works. Definitly he's a master in the art of photography. You can find many fabulouse black & white photoes of your beloved actors and actresses in 30s and 40s as well as an interesting and useful biography of Hurrell. If you love cinema you won't regret after buying it. Your library misses this book.

GORGEOUS
This book is just filled with gorgeous photographs, in a beautifully dramatic and romantic style that is often missing in the photographs taken in more recent times. A wonderful book for photographers looking for a little inspiration, or those who have had a surfeit of the modern, photojournalistic approach to portraiture. Look at the light, the composition, and the drama! As photographers, we've shown these images to prospective bridal clients, who thought they only wanted "candids" taken at their wedding - "very few posed images" - who summarily changed their minds about "stuffy posed photography." Many of our portrait clients, who came to sessions loathing the idea of having to pose for the camera have found themselves having so much fun they don't want to stop when we've introduced some of the more dramatic poses similar to those used by Hurrell in a session. This book is also a bonanza for movie buffs - to see images of a young Joan Crawford, BEFORE retouching, freckles and all, and then to see the results of Hurrell's handiwork, is fun for fans -and his techniques impress those of us who do this for a living.

Indispensable Resource
I've studied Japanese for 5 or so years now, and bought "The Kanji Dictionary" after I began to outgrow my first, smaller kanji dictionary. Even though I consider myself an advanced learner of Japanese, I have not felt the need to buy a "Japanese" Kanji dictionary yet: this one by Spahn and Hadamitzky has more than met my needs. Here are some of this dictionary's plusses:

-Just about every kanji or kanji compound you can think of is included (they claim 47,000+ compounds which sounds about right).

-The look-up system is easy to use, and the index is similarly helpful

-The appendices are surprisingly interesting and informative, including information ranging from the reigns of the emperors to geography to even a list of the most frequent Japanese surnames.

My only possible complaints are:

-not enough radicals: they chose to categorize the kanji using 79 radicals instead of the 214 historical radicals. This resulted in almost 300 kanji that are "without" a radical, all lumped together at the beginning of the dictionary by the number of strokes. Many of these are very common kanji, which can cause frustrations if you're trying to figure out which radical to look up only to find that it's in the "no radical" section.

-it would have been great if they'd had accent markings to show how the characters are pronounced. In Japanese, context and an accent shift are the only difference between saying "Let's have success!" and "Let's have sex!" (sex and success are both romanized "seikoo"). Native Japanese presumably know the difference in pronunciation, but learners of a second language are not as likely. This can result in awkward situations. Knowing the correct accent in general makes you much more understandable, and it is a shame that most dictionaries don't include this information.

Overall though, this is a great dictionary. I highly recommend it for beginners, experts, and everyone in between!

An excellent choice especially for a beginner
This is my only Kamji dictionary, so I don't really have a comparison for it, but I find it extremely useful. The option to look up compounds by any of the kanji is of immense utility to me. I have a more divided opinion on the simplified radical system they use. I don't know how much more difficult it would be to search through all 214 radicals rather than the 79 that Hadamitzky and Spahn use, but i do have occasional problems deciding which radical to use when none seem to match exactly. They do include a feature to help in this regard. Similar looking kanji are listed in the chart under the wrong radical with a pointer to the correct entry. All in all a worthy tome and one which sees great usage in my hands.

The best kanji dictionay
I'm studying japanese for about 9 years and this dictionary has the kanji compounds that we need. The others dictionary has few compounds and know only the means of two kanjis alone isn't enough to understand the real mean of a compound, for example, the kanji Ô (akai) means red and the kanji ½ (makoto) means truth, the compound Ô½ (makoto) means sincerity. If there was a CD version I'd rate it with 6 stars.

Foundational!
I have borrowed this book from a member of my single's group (he is now married) and I stored the book for awhile. When I started to get interested in someone, I figured I needed to open this book up and see what Mrs. Elliot had to say. I was very challenged by her very balanced and Biblical view of the roles of men and women. Roles that has been attacked tremendous by the femininist movement and the dogma of 'uni-sex' roles. Mrs Elliot's chapters are very short yet packs a powerful essay on the formula on how to stand up to be a real man for the Lord Jesus Christ in a fallen world. Definitely a book worth investing your time in (male or female).

Timeless standards, how refreshing!
"The mark of a man" is a superb book. God's standards for manhood are presented for men and women to read. The book reveals that true manhood is attainable and realistic. Nowadays, the mark between men and women is blurred. This book reafirms the divine difference of men from women. A refreshment in the midst of the confusion.

Superb! God's plan is forever the best.
"The Mark of a Man" is for those who have been wondering like me where are M-E-N. The book is a relief; God's intended role for MEN exists and is not unrrealistic. I recommend the book to men, to see what God invested in them. The book is a confirmation of what I had at the back of my mind. Nowadays, the mark of a man and a woman is blurred, but no longuer so, once you read this book which reaffirms the divine difference between the two sexes. It is a pure refreshment.

Comprehensive Histoy of Coca-Cola and The Coca-Cola Company
This book include many information to understand the history and business operation of The Coca-Cola Company.Especially, an infomation of secret formula of Coca-Cola, so called 7X, was very interesting. Through the book, we can learn when and where Coca-Cola was invented, why Coca-Cola went to foreign markets, how New Coke was introduced, why Classic Coke was came back and so on.The detail footnote and bibliograhy of Mark Pendergrast also support us to study the business history of The Company.I look forward to reading the revised version of the book.

Just fabulous
I have long been fascinated by Coca Cola as a product - its world wide marketing and dominance is just mesmerising. This book takes a good look at this phenomenon and is marvellously entertaining to boot. The stories of Coke's determination to get their product to the boys at the front during the war are brilliant, and others of the war with Pepsi are highly entertaining. This is well worth your time. My husband was most sceptical, saying that it is just a giant advertisement for a soft drink. I told him not to be so difficult, and to get me a Coke.

An outstanding historical business doccumentary
Explore the personalities, events, deals, and ordeals, that Coke has endured over the years. From the morphene adicted doctor who created the tonic to the modern day financial and brand building wizards, this book covers Coke in a way no other book does. The author, Mark Pendergrast, has many ties to Atlanta, and some of the historic figures in the book. This history combined with his research in to the company provies for a fantastic, presumably 100% factual doccumentary, chronicaling the history of one of the worlds most well nown companies.

In The Lives And Legacies Of Everyday Heroes, Mark Britzman introduces and celebrates ordinary individuals who posses great character and who have established important legacies for future generations to consider and emulate. These "everyday heroes" are the kind of men and women we all want as family members, friends, neighbors, teachers, colleagues, and mentors. These are common people who's uncommon examples inspire us all to be everyday heroes our selves. Very highly recommended, positive, and inspiring reading.

Dr. Mark J. Britzman...........Outstanding Author!
I've known Dr. Mark J. Britzman for over 20 years and his character and integrity have always been solid and unquestioned!

A true paragon in the acme of his writing career! A strong positive "role model" himself as he champions the achievement of everyday people doing extraordinary things! His passion for people, especially young people, is legendary! He's also got a great sense of humor and a wonderful common-sense perspective.

Strongly recommend this author to everyone! Recommend he doubles the price of his book! So much value for such a low price! I wish him continued success and look forward to owning everything he produces!

The Lives and Legacies of Everyday Heroes
An exceptional book that lauds the everyday hero. Readers will be challenged to think of those who have made a difference in their own lives by actions of character.

very pleased
Bought this book and was very pleased. I felt I learned alot, but still wanted to know more.

a guide for living
Written beautifully, and so simply, this book makes the most profound subjects easy to read. There's a charm to Gehlek Rimposhe's writing style, which has a slight flavor of someone who's mother toungue was not English.
It's about a lot more than reincarnation. It gives us life-changing lessons on how to replace anger with patience (ch. 3), attachment with pure love (ch.4), and ego with compassion (ch.5).
It's about living well, so as to die in peace and perhaps go on to a better and wiser future life.

There is much about how "our negative emotional habits create our suffering and blocks to freedom"...for instance, anger: "Peace of mind is like a clean, clear, tempting glass of water. A minute of anger is like putting a little dirt in it. Anger makes you miserable and makes everyone who deals with you miserable-your family, your friends, your colleagues, and your society all are made miserable by your anger"... and the concept that patience is the key to defeating anger is one I had not heard before, but I'm finding that it works.

Chapter two, "The Mind Continues", is fascinating, and details the process of physical death, and says: "This talk of death and impermanence is not meant to make you afraid. The whole purpose of it is for you to have compassion on yourself, and travel well".
Chapter Six, "Training the Mind", is powerful. It gives guidelines for meditating, and the difference between "absolute truth" and "relative truth".
This slim volume has had a big impact in my life...as a guide to a life without strife or negativity, and as preparation for the inevitable that lies ahead..."so that you can be like a bird sitting on a rock ready to fly, with nothing holding you back".

Wise, Useful and All Too Relevant Book
Although the book is about Reincarnation, it is just as much about how to live a good life in the first place - so that you have a fortunate rebirth or go on to that better place. I have a feeling that I'm going to be referring back to it as much as I do The Way of the Bodhisattva by Shantideva or the Book of Proverbs in the Bible.

Hunters of the Shadows

Good vampire story
For as long as there have been men, there have been creatures who prey on them, vampires, werewolves and others of that ilk.

Darius Creed is a Hunter, a special breed of human charged with the protection of all humans from the darkness lurking everywhere. He is long-lived and comes from a long line of Gypsy Royalty.

In modern times, most humans have forgotten the old lore, how to protect themselves against the darkness, all those except the Gypsy people who follow the old ways. Hunters in modern times are hard to come by, but they are needed, for a great battle is about to commence and only the Hunters can stop the powers of Darkness from attempting the Dolmage - Armageddon...

This book had a bit of everything, romance, adventure, mystery, horror, action, it was a difficult book to put down. As I was about half way through, I was thinking to myself, "I wish Selena (Creed's lover) was more involved in the story," and shortly thereafter, my wish was granted, although not in the way I expected! Selena is pivotal to the plot, even though she is not involved so much in the action.

My one niggle, and it is a niggle, although the story more than makes up for it, is that the layout of the book was a little odd. There were no spaces or indents between paragraphs. I'm not sure if that's the way the author meant it to be, or if it was a mistake at the printers.

Even with that, it's a good book and an interesting read if you like vampire stories with a bit of magic and romance thrown in.

An Awesome Vampire story!!
I am a huge vampire fan, the biggest. I am also a Bram Stoker fan and loved the way he was in the story. Mark brings out a vision in this book, a vision to be seen up on the big screen, I think it would make a wonderful horror flick. The story kept me on the edge of my seat all night, I read it in two nights. i just could not put it down! i could visualize all the characters, especially Darius himself. a wonderful book for any vampire and horror fan. Very much recommended!!

Hunters of the Shadows by Mark Haeuser
I remember when I was a 10 year old and would go with friends to the local theater to see Count Dracula, played by Bela Lagosi, suck the blood out of his victims. When the movie was over, I had to walk three blocks alone (after I got off the bus) to my home on an unlit street. My run quickly turned into a fast jaunt because I just knew the Vampire was going to get me. When I read Hunters of the Shadows, even though I know longer have a fear of Vampires, the old childhood memories surfaced.

The descriptive by the author is so real that at every little sound in your home may cause you to look over your shoulder. Darius Creed is the Vampire hunter, who with his Love Selena hunts down and kills vampires. I really do not want to say more, because words alone cannot give you the impact that reading this book will.

For those that love fantasy with a mixture of horror, then this is your kind of book. The Gypsies, witches and vampires are intermingled with each other so well that you can hardly wait to turn to the next page. The use of the cat was unique. I loved it.

This book proves once again that good overcomes evil - or does it? I am not a fantasy or horror fan, but this book by Mr. Haeuser grabbed me and held me to the exciting climax. If you want a book that will leave you in a cold sweat, then be sure to get your copy of 'Hunters of the Shadows.'

What a movie this would make. Bravo!

Bobby Ruble is the author of the psychological thriller 'Have No Mercy.'

clear and interesting, but some things are left out
This book is interesting for people who want to learn about what goes on under the hood of Windows 2000. The authors' style is clear and easy to understand and there is a good wealth of precious, in depth information.
It would have been even better if more details were included: some system mechanisms are mentioned, but the details are left out (particularly on LPCs). Also, the book is not oriented toward experimenting with the system by means of writing kernel mode code: nearly all of the experiments are based on the usage of tools. I think the book could have had room for something more if a number of pages of data structures listing (returned by Kd commands) were left out, particularly since these listings have very few comments and therefore add very little to what everyone can get from the debugger.

Must have for any Windows Develepor
This book explains windows 2000 internal workings in reasonable breadth and sufficient depth. This book is MUCH better than the 2nd Edition of Inside Windows NT, perhaps because of Mark's contributions.
The only problem with this book is that, inspite of being huge, it is only one volume. I think Windows 2000 is too extensive to fit in one book, and though the book is great for getting at many of the principles, you need to look at the DDK/SDK documentation to get more details, and actually use them in your work. At this level the book provides a great starting point to delve into OS internals, but perhaps someone needs to write a book for each chapter to do justice.

2000 Systems Programming at its best!!!
As a former systems programmer on Burroughs (Unisys) systems, I was always used to knowing how the OS did things. It is a real treat after working on PCs for so long, to finally get a book that makes it interesting to learn the internals again. This book is full of things that will give you an appreciation of any OS, but the way it cracks into the guts of 2000 is great. The experiments in this book make it really easy to learn how 2000 is organized and apply it to existing programming projects. Learning 2000 from the inside via the debugger is just a great way to do it. No offense to David, but Mark's influence is obvious. If you are a fan of his Internals column, you will like this book even better. The fact that he does it without source code is even more amazing. Wait a minute...why hasn't Microsoft paid these guys whatever they want to build the next version of 2000?
If you appreciate a good OS and an even better manual on it...Buy This Book...

Historical brutality spawns modern murder
The author of this timely work of crime fiction is a trained and experience lawyer and of
Slovenian descent. At times his training works to the disadvantage of this powerful story
of old mass murder and modern retribution.

Since humankind first walked upright on this earth, the Balkans have been a troubled
passageway connecting East and West. Anyone who reads the history of that part of the
world can only be struck with amazement at the almost constant conflicts that sundered
the land and the peoples who tried to set down roots. From Vlad the Impaler to Tito to
Hitler and on to Milosevich in our own time, the part of the world we know as
Yugoslavia has been a place of upheaval and torment. Political and religious hatreds are
deep-seated and enduring. They have been part of the landscape for centuries. Sarejevo
was the site of the assassination that finally set off World War I.

Yugoslavia was created by the winners of WWI out of Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia,
Croatia and part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was 1918, and unrest continued to
beset the region until after World War II when Josip Broz Tito became a strong man
president and brought relative calm to the area, calm that lasted until tito's death in 1980.

During WWII Yugoslavia was occupied by German troops. It was again a time of
brutality and unrest. At the beginning of the conflict, Tito was just another partisan,
making war against Germans, his fellow slavs, clawing his way to a position of power.
Unresolved conflicts between Christians, Muslims, Royalists and Communists rose to the
top of the bubbling witch's' brew. Over time, during the 1940's, Tito and the Partisan
movement, aided by the British, gained the ascendancy. His route to power was littered
by multiple legacies of old slights that resulted in numerous atrocities. During that time,
some Yugoslavs took advantage of the turmoil to visit vengeance on their neighbors.

Author Mark Munger has taken one such atrocity as the basis for this story of historical
murder in a far off land and modern murder in the forests of Northern Minnesota. In
1942 the mass murder of civilians, mostly women, children and few old men occurred in
a village beside the Sava River. The killers were members of the German SS and the
Ustaschi, a small group of Yugoslavians allied with the Germans against Tito and other
factions. From that event, witnessed by a German woman, devolves great anguish, love,
greed, thievery, and fifty years later, and thousands of miles away on another continent,
retribution of a sort. This novel is a good illustration of why anyone, including the
United Nations, who attempts to create a permanent solution to the troubles in the
Balkans, does so at their extreme peril.

Author Mark Munger too often allows his training as a lawyer to interfere with a more
direct, emotionally engaging style. The story has great power, and some of the characters,
are well worth reading about, but the novel is overlong and would have greatly benefited
from better word choices and major editing.

High praise for The Legacy
This is an excellent book. Mark Munger has captured the essence of historically based fiction in that he has created characters that not only are believable, but that you truly care about. My grandparents emmigrated to America from Croatia, so I have grown up hearing bits and pieces of the tragedy, pride and passion that Mark writes about. He gives us an insight into how and why the wounds of the past are still unhealed today for so many people. He takes you back, and after his fascinating tale of love and suspense is artfully woven and is concluded, you will find your heart a bit more full from the journey...a journey you will not want to end. For anyone who enjoys a great read, and especially for anyone with any familial ties to the Serbo-Croatian strife, this book is a must.

Gripping Murder Mystery Makes an Impressive Debut Novel
If you like John Grisham, you will love how Mark Munger draws you into the vivid scenes he describes in this page-turner. You need not be interested in history or NE Minnesota to become engrossed with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's two books in one, logically intertwined, with never a dull paragraph. Highly recommended.
