A beautiful inspiring book!
This book ties all the pieces together of the energy dynamics of the heart.
I found "Living from the Heart" both informative and inspiring.
I made a decision to follow a path into the healing arts in massage & Reiki after reading this book.

A Wonderful New Look At the Energy of the Heart Center!
This book explores how to understand and increase one's knowledge and application of the subtle energies of the Heart Center. Lots of information, including experiences of those working in the field of healing and energy work. Tells how our relationship to our own heart energy affects our physical/emotional health and relationships. Those involved in energy work, massage, Reiki or alternative therapies will find it fascinating. I found it very informative. Lots of information provided in a very clear, easy to read style. Highly recommended!

WILD RIDE
MARK TAKES YOU ON AN AWESOME JOURNEY, FULL OF HUMOR, GREAT CHARACTERS, BOTH JOYFUL AND NOT., A REAL TASTE OF LIFE ON THE ROAD VIA A MOTORCYCLE. SEE AMERICA AND ITS CHARACTERS THROUGH MARK EDMONDS SPECIAL SIGHT.

A Homerian million mile odyssey on a BMW
Every once in a while, a writer comes along that provides a wholly unique insight into what makes their world tick. Their adventures hit home with a tapestry of humor, pathos and down-home wisdom. They also just plain entertain. Mark Twain, Johnny Cash, Garrison Kielor, Woody Guthrie come to mind. But now, you can add the name of Mark Edmonds to that exclusive list. When not teaching Writing at St. Leo University in central Florida, Dr. Edmonds, or "Tiger" as he's known to friends, climbs aboard his weathered BMW, and continues to tour the United States from border to border, and coast to coast. His newest book, Long Rider, details a million mile odyssey over a 35 year stretch that also includes journeys into Canada, Mexico, Belize and others. Not only are the stories riveting, they are written in the genuine style of an American Gulliver. This book is not to be missed! For bikers, and non-bikers alkie, this is definitely one for your library, and the cab of your Peterbilt. Mark has written and recorded a companion audiocassette tape of Epic Motorcycle Poetry called, "Gather 'Round Me Riders." His gravelly, coffee-edged, seductively smokey voice tells captivating tales of the road, highlighted with the compelling production of the night he met the devil in a rain storm.

Why don't we see more of Mark Spencer?
Mark Spencer is one of the best literary writers alive! Why don't we see more of him? His writing is a thousand percent better than most of the works being published today. Take a hint, publishers!!! LOVE AND RERUNS IN ADAMS COUNTRY is an excellent book - so well written. The story and the characters remain with you forever.

Why is all the GOOD STUFF out of print?!?
Booklist does an excellent review of this work by Mr. Spencer, so that there is little I can add other than to simply say-- TRACK THIS BOOK DOWN AND *READ IT*!!

But, don't be surprised it it stays with you, if the characters haunt you after you close it up and shelve it away; they may all be sad, dysfunctional, maudlin hayseeds, but there's a bit of Bobby, Pamela, Lon and Becky Anne in each of us... It's the humanity of the characters-- as unexamined lives as they may be leading-- that is most appealing about this book. Whatever else they are or are are not, whatever else they may or may have not done with their lives, they're REAL and they're ALIVE. *That's* what makes this book worth finding and reading!!

The kind of book you'll like if you like that kind of book
Back in the olden days, this was *the* book on learning to write Mac software. These days, with the fancy OSX, and the built-in development environment, and the other stuff and nonsense that makes it so much easier to write for the Mac, this sort of book is unnecessary.

I mean, "Think C"? System 7? What do those mean, eh? I'm talking to you, sonny.

This book is now only a curiosity in the modern world. A side-show in the circus of programming. If you're interested in how we wrote Mac software back in the middle ages of computing, go ahead and read this book. It's the best book on the subject it covers, for what that's worth.

Love this book (even though dated)
This is the book that taught me GUI programming. It does not make you feel you are reading one of those "dummies" books, but shows you how the Mac thinks and how to make it do what you want. Each chapter pretty much builds on what was presented before.

Once I read this book (not even entirely), I was able to read O"Reilly & Associates "XLib Programming Manual" (I always wanted to write program in X-windows) and understand it completely. If people say Petzold's book is *The* Microsoft Windows book, this, in my opinion is *The* Mac GUI book. HOWEVER, it is rather outdated: it covers System 7 and Think C 5. but then again, I have Petzold's books on Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. ;)

Maestros of the Pen: A History of Classical Music Criticism in America
Published in Hardcover by Northeastern University Press (December, 1998)
Authors: Mark N. Grant and Eric Friedheim
Amazon base price: $37.50

Fascinating survey of history of music criticism
If, like myself, your opinion of music critics has ranged somewhere between tolerance and contempt, prepare for a delightful awakening. In this survey, Mark Grant proves that critics are not only sensitive, dedicated intellectuals -- they are actually human. Grant makes his point via anecdotes, sketches and quotes that bring his cast of personalities to life. And what personalities! From the super-curmudgeon, H.L. Mencken, to the super-artist, Virgil Thompson, you'll meet an array of scholars and scoundrels who, whether you like it or not, helped to shape your tastes. You'll discover that their ranks included not only professionals, like Deems Taylor and Olin Downes, but such unlikely "amateurs" as Emerson, Whitman and Howells. You'll also discover Mark Grant, himself a composer and musicologist, through whose readable, unpatronizing style we share a love for his art and for those sometimes-noble, sometimes-naughty music critics.

virtuosic study of music criticism in America
I highly recommend Mark Grant's Maestros Of The Pen to all lovers of classical music as well as to performers, composers and followers of the American cultural scene, past and present. When I picked up the book, I was expecting to wade through a dry but informative academic tome; instead, I found myself being swept along by Grant's witty verbal virtuosity applied to a surprisingly fascinating subject . In addition to his concise historic synthesis of the critics and their aesthetic, Grant's endeavor also features a consistently stimulating subtext, juxtaposing the "then" and the "now". By reaching backward and forward in time, Grant personalizes his research and gives his work a tremendous contemporary resonance.
