A nice addition to Space:1889 literature.

The third installment of TRMGS is a welcome addition to the canon of literature for the role-playing game Space:1889. Although some of the material is re-printed from the old GDW magazine Challenge, the bulk of this title is new, fresh information. The quality of this volume stands up well with the previous two volumes, and it is clear that the publisher (Heliograph, Inc.) is starting to better understand DTP layout and the limitations and/or strengths of their printer, Lightning Print, Inc.

The only quibble that keeps me from rating this volume with 5 stars, is the interior artwork. Bob Brown's drawings are a welcome addition but do not (in this reviewer's opinion) stand up well against the vintage victorian artwork (clipart) in this volume or against the art originally produced for Space: 1889 and associated articles in GDW's Challenge magazine.

That quibble coupled with an over-abundance of advertising for other Heliograph projects, serve as annoying distractions to an otherwise excellent volume. That all said, I am looking forward to volume #4.

Excellent book for identifying your strengths and weaknesses
This was used as a textbook for a class in school and was the best text I have ever used. The authors help you identify those energies you typically use to help survive. Learn why you are stronger in some situations than in others, and be more confident in your decisions and actions. If you have every doubted or wondered why you react the way you do, Tager and Willard will help you understand.

Traveling Light: Mark's Complete Gospel Told in 70 Scenes and Monologues
Published in Paperback by Lillenas Publishing Company (January, 1992)
Author: Lawrence G. Enscoe
Amazon base price: $9.99

Excellent Play
Traveling light is an excellent adaption of the entire book of Mark. The author uses characters from the Bible and inserts them into today's frame of reference. For instance, the leper who was healed has contracted AIDS. Judas is a drug dealer and Matthew, who was a tax collector is an auditor for the IRS. Every person will find this play reletive to someone they know or even themselves. I recommend this as an Easter production or just as a chance to get the Gospel to your community. My church is performing Traveling Light for the second time and there is much excitement in the congregation

A solid backgrounder
If you are interested in learning what's behind the headlines concerning genetically modified crops and foods, this is a good choice. The author is a professor of biological sciences at British Columbia's Simon Fraser University, and clearly knows what he is writing about. He traces the history of GM crops and presents the controversies concerning them in a balanced way. That balance is both the book's strength and weakness. Winston gives the pro- and anti-GM arguments equal time, and describes them in an even-handed way. However, the absence of a strongly stated point of view made the book less interesting, at least to me. Actually, Winston does have a point of view, which he reveals towards the end of the book. He thinks that the issues swirling around GM agriculture and foods can and should be resovled with a lot less rhetoric and more reason. Given the depth of feelings on the side of people and groups opposed to GM agriculture and foods, and the amount of money at stake for companies developing and pushing them, the author's hope for reasonable solutions seems admirable, but perhaps naive. Still, if you want a factual, balanced account of the GM issue to date, this book would certainly be useful.

Lavish photos of fabulous wildlife with good detail
I wanted a book that would stimulate my children's interest in marine life. They are into elephants and lions in a big way but there's more to life! I think this book will do nicely. Smaller than I was expecting - that just makes it easier to handle for the kids. Each page has a stunning photograph of an even more stunning creature/plant. Below the picture, there is a block of text with just enough detail. I guess a bright 12 year-old could understand it.

Great Comdey
The only thing that prevents this script from receiving five stars is the length. It comically presents the sarcastic tone and politics of Mark Twain, and leaves your audience asking for more. The show runs at about an hour, and there are extra scenes that can be utilized. Great for community theatre! (Perfect for competition)
