The "touch and feel" aspect of this so-called "Interactive book" leave a lot to be desired. Most of the touchies are embossings on the page or holes cut in the board. There are only a couple of the fuzzy things you usually expect from a touch-and-feel toddler board book.

I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to read about the South as it actually is -- unique, history-addled, and genuinely "salty".

I recommended this book for school children or adults who like these machines.
I was introduced to one of Blum's books by a friend and liked it so much that I sought out and bought all of his 3D books. I find the price so reasonable that I've since bought more to give as gifts.
I enjoy looking at the 3-D photos as much as my seven year old son so I already know several adults as well as children who will be getting this book as a gift.
The technical quality of the photos and printing of the books is very good. A magnifying, stereo viewer is built into a unique bi-fold cover of the book A little research showed that this idea is well over a hundred years old (like stereo photography) but I still find it very innovative because it is so rare and unusual.
The photographer has an inspired eye and top technical skill. You really get a feel for the size and power of these big trucks and diggers when you see them photographed in 3D!
The writing accompanying each image adds to the photos and will teach youngsters a little about how humans build their world.
I like this book and I hope you find this review helpful. I recommend looking for the other 3-D books by Blum. They are all great!
These are not red/blue lenses! The images are presented in true color stereo pairs and when viewed, merge into a single, dynamic 3D image - WOW! I can't say enough about the overall quality of viewing for ADULTS as well as children.
The price is another thing that confuses me. I don't know why these are so inexpensive? I urge anyone who loves photography to buy all of the books in this series!

The only quibble with the book is the method of organising the birds. The book is divided into Passerines and Non Passerines which doesn't mean much and doesn't help either, since both of those groups include a wide variety of bird types. Picture this: a bird catches your eye, "Hey that's an owl, I wonder what kind?" You can spend a bit of time going through the 3 step identification key before you find the owls. To be fair though, that really only means that this is not a field guide. It can't be, it's 'Birds of The World' afterall. Enjoy it for what it is - A beautifully illustrated, educational, introduction to the wonderful world of birds.

The book it's laid out in Chapters as much as it is laid out according to sports groupings. For instance in the First group you have Soccer, Australian rules for "football", American style Football, Rugby League and Rugby Union, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, Men's Lacrosse and Women's Lacrosse. Here are just a few of the topics covered.
BAT AND BALL GAMES: Cricket, Baseball, Softball and Rounders
RACKET GAMES: Tennis, Badmiton, Squash, Table tennis
HAND BALL GAMES: Basketball, Team handball, Netball, Volleyball, Korfball, Lawn bowling, Petanque which is alot like Lawn bowling but is French.
MISC SPORTS: Track and Field, Golf, Boxing, Karate, Judo, Fencing, Croquet
Each sport is covered in great detail from how many players there are, what the playing field is and what the regulations are. Equipment used and what it is made of, as well as clothing worn. They discuss what country originated the sport and the graphics, drawings and photographs are stunning.
It is a book that measures something like 15 inches by 8 inches so it isn't a whimpy book. And it is a book that will appeal to both sexes and readers from 8-80. It is a book that once you pick it up you will have a hard time putting it down.
Personally I love learning new things and this book is a gem.

Borderland is about a world like ours in which the Elves and their magic have returned to earth. Magic and technology both work sporadically in Bordertown (which lies at the heart of the Borderlands) where teenagers runaway to hang out in rock and roll clubs where fairie dust is a drug and music is magic.
The book is the first in an anthology series featuring such talents as Emma Bull and Charles de Lint.
After losing some of my interest in works of fantasy, this book reignited a spark in me like gasoline on a bbq pit. I haven't felt this way about a work of fantasy since Conan or Fahfrd and Greymouser. These books are nearly impossible to get ahold of but Essential Bordertwon is a new one coming out soon.
I cannot recommend this book and this series highly enough.
