great
This book covers resp pharm and other parts of pharmacology well .Its simple as that.

A wonderfully illustrated text and comprehensive review!!
This text is well constructed to be user friendly and simplistic in terms. The foundations in respiratory care are drugs and the effects of their use, primarily the use of bronchodilators. This text was well rounded for the beginner, but also went into the realms of cellular biology, general physiology, along with biochemistry. The understanding of basic chemistry is essential for productive readers. The overall structure and concepts of this book are defined and analyzed in appropriate order and in great detail. The overall concepts are conveyed and specific in description, this text is an excellent addition to the the multi-skilled RRT or the beginner CRTT. -MJW

The World Of Jewish Desserts : More Than 400 Delectable Recipes from Jewish Communities

An appealing, involving cookbook
The World of Jewish Desserts provides recipes with a fine background by gourmet cook Rabbi Marks, who gathers Jewish recipes from Jewish communities around the world. The international focus of the Jewish dessert recipes makes for an appealing, involving cookbook which provides a very surprising variety of Jewish dessert choices. No photos, but the amount of research and depth to this title makes them less necessary.

if u think Jewish desserts stopped at honey cake, read this
Gil Marks, a rabbi, historian, linguistic detective and the author of three other books on kosher cooking and entertaining, provides a taste of not only the dishes, but the history of the Jewish communities that developed and transformed the dishes. And I don't mean an insert here and there, I am talking a page for each essay. For example, the story of German Jewish cooking, or Salonika Greek Jewry. I guarantee that you'll never look at a latka the same way after reading his latest book. The book opens with a treatise on cooking and baking. Did you ever wonder why fat is added to Jewish desserts (butters, oils, etc)? Is it any wonder that the person who introduced dry yeast (the kind that can be activated in your home by adding water) was a Hungarian Jew named Fleischmann? It's in the book. The chapters headings follow this format: Yeast Cakes and Pastries; Cakes; Cookies; Filled Cookies; Strudels and Phyllo; Fried Pastries; Pan Cakes; Baked Puddings and Kugels; Stovetop Puddings; Fruit based Desserts; Confections; and a whole chapter for Passover Pesach desserts/ For each recipe, Marks adds a tidbit of history or Semitic semantics. For example, for the Kuchen Buchen recipe, Marks discusses Yiddish rhyming, or for the recipe for Makosh Poppy Seed Rolls, he writes about how the German Mohn (poppy) filled cakes evolved into the Polish Makowiec rolls and German Makosh. Add some Hungarian cocoa, and you turn Makosh into Kakosh. Recipes are included for Debla; Lokmas; Loukoumades (in time for Hanukkah); Bombay Malpuah Banana Fritters; stuffed dates; blintzes; latkas of all sorts; marzipan, the Indian Jewish rice pudding called Kheer; Seffa; Brot Kugel; an Indian Carrot Halvah Pudding; an Alsatian Apple Charlotte (ApfelSchalet); a grandmother load that Seinfeld would know as a Babka; Schnecken; Haman-taschen; prune lekvar; Sephardic style Parmak, Moroccan Jewish Fakasch; Persian Klaitcha; Apfelkaka (don't you just love that name?); Iraqi Jewish Rayka Tamir; Lakach honey cake; Lepeny; strudels; Rugelach with a variety of fillings; Kadayif; Kindli; Kranszli; Farfel bars (not just for soup, you know); Biscotti (did you know that means twice baked?); Basboosah (a dessert, not a type of bus); Dobostorte 7 layer cake; and even a Gebleterter Kugel (a type of fluden).

More than 50 actual broadcasts, and an audio CD
Collaboratively compiled and written by Mark Bernstein and Alex Lubertozzi, World War II On The Air: Edward R. Murrow And The Broadcasts That Riveted A Nation presents the stories behind the implacable and courageous radio correspondents who brought the reality of war itself into living rooms across the nation for the first time in history. More than 50 actual broadcasts, and an audio CD narrated by Dan Rather, enhance this unique and very highly recommended look at World War II events and personalities as the home front experienced it through the medium of radio broadcasting.

"Murrow's Boys" Report WWII
This is a unique and intriguing book which creatively captures the history of Edward R. Murrow and "Murrow's Boys." The book includes a CD containing 51 broadcasts just as they were heard live during World War II, with narration by Dan Rather. The text has symbols throughout, keying the reader to the CD track which compliments the written words with the voices of these brave men as they broadcasted from all over the world. The text includes concise profiles of the various members of Murrow's team: William Shirer (author of RISE AND FALL OF THE THIRD REICH), Eric Sevareid, Howard K. Smith, Larry LaSueur, Charles Collingwood, Winston Burdett and Richard Hottelet, among others. To those who remember WWII these names will be very familiar, and for those who do not, they tell the war's story with passion, intensity and professionalism. The authors have painstakingly researched the intricate details of how William Paley took the embryonic Columbia Broadcast System from a largely soft entertainment network to the premier news gathering and reporting organization which eclipsed all others during the war. The role Murrow plays in this evolution reveals a man of tremendous commitment to his craft, despite almost no previous experience in radio, with a great capacity for judging and selecting the others who became the critical reporters on his team. The travails of Murrow and the others as they faced death in flights over enemy territory, beach assaults and other combat assignments and suffered the tyranny of technological challenges with equipment strained to the breaking point make for great reading. The authors weave the complexities of personalities, politics, warfare and technology into a comprehensive and coherent book. The CD is haunting and chilling as these now dead voices bring back to the present momentous events which told America about the fighting of the war and the slow and painful process of winning peace just as they were happening. This book will be a superb addition to the library of any student of WWII and is also recommended for any reader who enjoys fast paced history in the making.

A beautiful book
"Writing" combines elements of fictional narrative, literary theory, and conversational Q&A all in Duras's recognizable voice. It is a wonderful book allowing readers to experience both Duras's writing process and the finished outcome.

literary testament/memoir explaining Duras's theory of writ
this is the last book by Duras, as she passed away on March 4, 1996. Recommended for anyone who appreciates the spledid bareness of her late style. Her theory of writing, why she wrote, and what compells writers...fascinating, and reads like a meditation.

A Must for Ministers & Counselors
Most books covering the topic of suffering and God's involvement in His world and with His people can be placed in one of two categories. They are either (1) personal, experiential studies of the author's faith walk in a crisis or (2) reasoned, theological studies of the questions surrounding the existence of evil and pain. Experiential accounts or personal stories, although inspirational and effective witnessing tools, come up lacking in their limited scope and applicability to all readers. Theodicies and studies of pain and suffering, although sound teaching, come up lacking often as cold and impersonal in their aloof, clinical approach to the problem. John Mark Hicks' book Yet Will I Trust Him: Understanding God in a Suffering World is a rare work that does not fit into either of these categories. This book is neither a personal testimony appealing only to the heart and emotions nor a philosophical theodicy appealing only to the mind and reason. The work is a hybrid containing Hicks' personal experiences, emotional and faith struggles, and his search for understanding as a young theologian seeking to make sense out of tragedy and crisis in his own life and the lives of God's people. This book speaks to the heart and mind of the sufferer and those ministering to the sufferer. According to the author, this book is the product of twenty years of study and research in which Hicks taught graduate students, but behind each statement of rational, theological truth are the painful life experiences of the author. In April 1980 Hicks' wife of three years died at home of a blood clot following surgery. Hicks says at that time that his simple faith in God and scripture was tested as his and his wife's plans for missionary work and their lives together in service to God and God's people were destroyed. Hicks question was that of every suffering, lamenting Christian -- "Where is God?" (meaning the "good" God that he knew in his young faith). Hicks lists two other crises that have acted as faith-shaping experiences in his life: the death of his father in 1994 and the terminal illness suffered by his adolescent son. Fourteen-year-old Joshua is afflicted with a genetic disorder that has left him unable to speak and dependent upon his family for every need. It is obvious to the reader that his son's illness and the accompanying anticipatory grief over the loss of his only son have had the most profound impact on the author in his struggle to understand pain and suffering in the world. As he did at the loss of his wife Sheila, Hicks struggles again with destroyed plans. This time the destroyed plans are those he had for his son as a leader in the church. The author's thesis is that each person can only come to an understanding of the pain and tragedies of their individual life story by looking through the lens of what God is about: what God has done, what God is doing and what God will do. Hicks had originally named the book "What on Earth is God Doing?" By refocusing on God and His story, the sufferer can see how his or her story intersects with and is impacted by God's story. The result of this refocusing on God is peace, hope and a meaning in life that is not found in a fallen world reeling under the weight of unspeakable pain and suffering. Hicks goes through God's story using a series of eleven questions....

One of the greatest books on human suffering
John Mark Hicks is a professor at the Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis, Tennessee. His first wife died after 3 years; his son has a genetic illness that will bring his death at an early age. Mix these two elements together and you see a scholar with a heart that knows pain and all the questions to ask God. Most books that I have read on human suffering are wrapped in emotion, but contain all-too-little real answers from Scripture. Not so with "Yet Will I Trust Him." This book brings help and healing for the mind and the heart. It digs deep into the heart and mind of God in the search for answers. But it also opens up the hurt of the wounded, broken heart so that others can experience the pain. John Mark Hicks has written a book that can help the hurting. But don't expect easy reading. The Scriptural thoughts are deep and require full concentration and continued study. But careful reading will bring abundant blessing.

Beautiful calendar
This is a wonderful calendar. The pictures are all very well done and give a sense of peace and joy upon viewing them. I love having this calendar - it has given me the motivation to take my practice to the next level.

Stunning Photograhs. . .
It's really amazing how just studying an image of an asana can help inspire your practice! This new 2002 calendar has photographs and poses that are more vibrant (and inspirational I think) than the current one I have up in my office -- they were taken in my beautiful home state of CA too and remind me of how great it is to enjoy the outdoors. I'm a big Yoga Journal fan and I think they've done a great job with this calendar. I hope it will continue to motivate me in the year to come!

All you need to be your child's best health advocate!
With my ever-growing addiction to natural parenting tomes, I already have quite a collection of child care reference books. But something about this book beckoned me to take another look, and I'm so very glad I did.

Your Vital Child is written in easy-to-understand terms, careful to explain the basics of alternative therapies such as herbals, homeopathics, accupressure and even hydrotherapy. What I really love is that the authors have obviously worked so hard to create a comprehensive, one-stop reference guide with all the vital information any parent could possibly need - in short paragraphs with simple instructions on how to implement various treatments and what to expect after treatment.

There is more vital information here than in all my other natural health care books combined! Really. Facts that I had to learn from friends or the Internet (such as not to give astragalus when your child has a fever, or that some aromatherapies counteract the effect of herbal remedies) were all in this book, and I'm still discovering new information as I dig deeper into the book. You'll also appreciate the vast range of A to Z ailments that you can quickly look up, including common childhood diseases such as measles, mumps, chickenpox and many others (over 150 ailments to look-up). Other chapters include incredibly helpful information about what you can do to keep your child from getting sick not only now but for the rest of his life. Truly a one-stop holistic pediatrician shop!

Thick with an abundance of resources, remedies, treatment options and descriptions, this is absolutely the very best whole-child health care material I have ever had the pleasure to place on my bookshelves. It is my new standard baby shower gift and one that every parent and caretaker should not be without. The next time your child gets sick, you'll have all your options at your fingertips, then *you* choose what you feel comfortable with. A very worthwhile book and one that you won't be disappointed with!

Best Child healthcare book -- remedies really work!
The advice in this book is comprehensive and really excellent! I was able to reverse my 4 year old daughters ear infections to the amazement of her ENT. After a prognosis of "andenoid removal and tube insertion " required, after just 4 weeks the diagnosis is " no surgery necessary" ! A phone consultation with the doctor helped me to better decide which remedies, and the dosages, that were required.
The book lists all the major, and even many minor, maladies you will face with your child, and what you can do naturally, with herbs, vitamins, diet, accupressure, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy and homeopathy. Each ailment has a good explanation, then lists each remedy you can do, with a basic plan and an advanced plan. It is so easy to use.... you can go straight to the chapter you need and then refer to the others as you required. The advice is also great for adults too. Great antecdotes of actual case histories too.

My daughter's complete recovery, after 1 1/2 years of being constantly sick, speaks for itself. Dr. Stengler really cares about healing children naturally, and maintaining their natural vitality. Personally I'm hooked and will use natural health cures as a first choice... and conventional medicine last!
