Come and See!!
Walking on the Waves is a rich, compelling presentation of many key scenes in Jesus' ministry. From the opening chapter, the book draws the reader into many of the familiar stories of Jesus' life and allows us to see these happenings for ourselves 'up close and personal.' I particularly enjoyed the author's insertion of his own fictional actors into the scene. Each character then interprets what's taking place through their own experience or philosophical outlook. Through this mechanism, the author is able to compare and contrast many of today's modern schools of thought against what Jesus represents in his life and teachings. This book is a joy to read while at the same time it will make you think. Take my advice, read this one slowly and savor it. There's enough here that you'll want to re-read it once you finish. It's impossible to read this book and not come out with a fresh new appreciation for the incredible richness of who Jesus is and what he represents for today's post-modern world.

Warbringer: Ninja Warrior of Warlord?
I have all six Way of the Tiger books and I enjoy this one as it pits strategy on the field of battle, while involving the player in battles. I feel it involves a great deal of all the tricks of a Ninja, which I enjoy doing, but at the same time, the field battles are difficult to follow.

These Places Are Great
Having worked in the heavy industrial electrical/mechanical field for the past 26 years, I have worked at many facilities similiar to those illustrated in this book. I love them! You can say what you'd like regarding their environmental impact, but I can tell you, these are great places to work. The process is usually very interesting, and the customer most always demands a quality job. So...there's some polution, but not one of you reading this review can say that your purchasing habits, and style of life has not contributed to the very images that you would now turn your nose up at. Sure, the EPA would love to have you believe that they are cleaning up the world, when the fact is, they are only driving real industry out of the USA, only to produce the same if not more 'polution' over the borders. And with our governments blessing. 'Still buying the same products, are you not? Look and see where they were made next time! It makes me sad to see these big industrial sites closed down. I love the book, because I can show my kids, and my grandkids the types of places that used to exist in this country_The type of places that has enabled us to go around as the police department of the world, and enforce what WE deem as right on every continent of the earth. It would have made a nice closing statement though, if you would have included an arial shot of the Pulp & Paper Mill that produced the pages of this book. I am assuming that is, that they were made in the USA.

Indispensible.
How unfortunate that Samuel and Sada Applebaum's "The Way They Play" is no longer in print.

"The Way They Play" is a compendium of interviews with world's greastest string artists concerning technique, practising, repertoire...and just about anything that applies to someone trying to become a professional string player.

In volume one, the Applebaums talk with some people you may have heard of. Oh, like Jascha Heifetz, Ivan Galamian, Pablo Casals, Joseph Fuchs, Paul Doktor, William Primrose, Zino Francescatti....the list goes on and on! The candid (an understatement) discussions prove invaluable, especially in the areas concerning practising and repertoire, etudes and scales. You'll know so much more after reading this book (and maybe the other thirteen that follow). The volumes prove easy to read, and the Applebaums' charming (and delightfully antiquated) sense of humour flows through every question asked.

Violinists are by no means the focus, and players of cello, viola, and double bass (volume two) are also interviewed. Many of these artists were friends of the Applebaums, played chamber music with them, etc. I cannot stress enough what an invaluable resource these books are.

If you are struggling to make it as a string player (as a professional or an amateur), or a seasoned veteran, these books will provide indispensible encouragement and advice. Of course, reading a book cannot rectify what countless hours in the practise room can...

If you love Gretzky, you'll love this book/ fantastic photos
An easy to read and interesting account of Gretzky's career. He is truly a hero and this book really tries to capture his spirit. This book is appropriate for hockey lovers of all ages - I bought it for my 11 year old son and found myself enjoying it immensely. The photos are fantastic and there are many of them. This book is great for any hockey player or coach and ours is kept on our coffee table.
