An invaluable resource for the Christian's library
I'm a Christian writer constantly in search of great quotes of the classic preachers and writers of the past. I have purchased a dozen or so little books that have served me well, but after a while, the same quotes get recirculated from book to book.

The Encyclopedia of Christian Quotations is wonderful because it has dug up some very original quotes from some of histories dearest saints. It also has some lengthy portions that are wonderful reading as well. Just about every topic and subject is available and the indexing is great.

What I like about this book is that it comes from an objective viewpoint. There are even a few secular quotes that can be used to drive home a good point. He doesn't endorse these, as he says in the forward, but he includes them for reference.

The Encyclopedia of Christian Quotations is a great desk reference. I am so glad I purchased it. It has become a regular fixture alongside my computer.

last night a book changed my life
This is a very important book, that much I cannot stress enough. I found a copy in the Complutense library in Madrid in 1998, and spent my days consumed by kristeva, cixous and iriguray, turning page after page in mark's and de courtivron's incredibly well-organised and informative work. if you've read toril moi's sexual/textual politics and got to grips with the generalities of the scene, then this is the next step. if you haven't this is as good a starter as any for 'feminist' food for thought.

New Jersey Coastal Heritage: A Guide
This is a wonderful, thoughtfully written book that uncovers many fabulous stories of New Jersey's small and large coastal towns and resorts. Every time I read it, I learn something new. The stories of the Morro Castle burning off Spring Lake and the local people who came to help the survivors; the death of President Grant in Long Branch and the people of that town who built a railroad over night to get the ailing president to his favorite spot; the rich histories of Atlantic City, Ocean City, Ocean Grove, and Cape May, there all here. Well researched and written in an easy conversational style that makes each page a pleasure. The author has something to share about lots of little towns along our special seashore -- makes you want to head immediately to the beach! Great photos taken by the author and his brother. Each section points out places of interest and includes hours of operation, phone numbers, costs, etc. Highly recommended!

New¿Land¿Marks
New•Land•Marks: Public Art, Community, and the Meaning of Place, edited by Penny Balkin Bach, is the book version of an exhibition of models and proposals for an ambitions public art project in Philadelphia, undertaken by the Fairmount Park Art Association. In a way, the show and book are virtual public art: the photographs, texts, and models are a vision of what could happen, not only in this project but in the larger area of community-based public art. Sixteen artists provide visions of the city, communities within it, and the interaction of art, the public, and public space. The book itself is beautifully designed: with innovative site photographs and innovative presentation of the texts and models proposed for each site. This book breaks new ground in the field of public art.

New Media in the Muslim World: The Emerging Public Sphere (Middle East Studies)

Enjoyable and informative
I most enjoyed reading New Media in the Muslim World. This bookexamines the recent introduction of mass education and theavailability of new media (including: fax machines, private and satellite Television channels, internet, desktop publishing as well as video tapes and telephone) in the Muslim World. These new media challenge existing modes of governmental and religious authority and creates new discursive spaces for the articulation of ethnic and religious identities.

This work starts with three theoretically oriented chapters and continues with ethnographies. All case study presented in the collection are immensely relevant to new media researchers, although only one of them deals specifically with the Internet.

Other themes consist of: the continuity between old and new in popular culture (Armbrust), interactions between technology and culture in the new "communication ecology" (White), how new communication networks have de-centered debates on the construction of ethnic identity to Europe (Yavuz), the narrowing gap between broadcast production and audiences and the intellectualization of Islamic discourse (both by Eickelman), the discovery of the civil society as a topic for debate in the Muslim world (Norton), etc.

One of the book's strengths is that no simplistic causal link is assumed between new communication technologies and their social impact. The essays are informed by a rich ethnographical context and an understanding of larger social and political.

This book comes to fill this gap with case studies of regions as diverse as diverse as Indonesia, Bangladesh, Turkey, Iran, the Arab world, and the United States...

The New Politics of the Old South

Great overview of Southern politics!
This books is a seminial survey text of Southern politics. All of the Southern states are analyzed individually by various authors. Also, Oklahoma is included as a border state where Professors Keith Gaddie and Scott Buchanan have an interesting argument as to why the Sooner State should be considered nominally Southern. Overall, a great book that focuses on the the Republican growth of the region. We also see how religion is beginning to play an important role along with race in the realignment of white voters at varying stages in all of the South.

GET THIS IF YOU'RE IN NEED OF PASSING!
I thought I was going to fail the Sequential Math III Regents terribly in March. I found this book, read it thoroughly, and got passed the regents knowing things I never thought I'd be able to learn in the short time I had. This book gives you a cut and dry explanation of every major topic covered in the course, with great example problems. If you have trouble with your teacher, the subject, or math in general, this book is a life-saver!
