The Odin Brotherhood: A Non-Fiction Account of Contact With an Ancient Brotherhood

ODIN ROCKS
Very interesting read; not enough pages to the book! I wanted to continue reading!! Being drawn into the "unusual" by being a student of Dr. Mirabello... I was not disappointed in the least.

A must read for everyone
DR. Mirabello knows his stuff. I know this for a fact because, interestingly enough, Dr. Mirabello has met and conversed with one of the top notches in the poll of the Odin Brotherhood. If you have ever had a class under this professor of History, you will come to find out that he never pulls your leg when it comes to his favorite subject. This book covers anything that you would remotely want to know about this diverse belief.

Insightful
This a wonderfully insightful book. A must read for the beginning student of Odinism. This book allows the reader to gain an understanding of the brotherhood that is not possible without joining or paying a costly price.

A Great Find
In graduate school, I wasn't taught how to write formal poetry. In fact, a buddy of mine and I "secretly" wrote formal poetry in fear that we might be persecuted by our peers, all post-modern free-verse spawn. Even as an undergraduate, I was taught that free-verse is the way to go--forget that stuffy formal nonsense--be original! Do your own thing!

Ever try to write a sestina? Ever write a villanelle? Does anyone write sonnets any more?

_Rebel Angels_ proves that formal verse is not dead at all. In fact, this anthology is one of the best books of poetry I've ever read. The verse is tight here, and when these poets are on, they can produce some well-written masterpieces. Dana Goia's poetry is very well done. His work in ballad stanza should not be missed. Tom Disch has a pair of villanelles that prove that Dylan Thomas isn't the only poet who can perfect the form. This volume doesn't include only metered verse in a recognizable form. Many poets write in irregular rhyming patterns. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the poetry was the inclusion of several modern narrative pieces--the narrative poem, now there's a poem not assigned in my graduate workshop.

Check this one out certainly. Don't forget to read Jarman's introduction. It's quite interesting. Imagine someone calling formal poets "unAmerican." It happens.

great collection
I am both a fan of formal poetry and free verse, but it always seemed like contemporary poets only wrote in free verse. i couldn't find any modern formal poetry. that's why this collection was such a wonderful little gem to find. some of the better poets born after 1950 are included here.

Excellent
New Formalism was long overdue, and this volume surveys it admirably. Recommended.

nuts and bolts greek islands
Primarily geared towards the independent low-budgeter, the book is packed with accurate, practical detail and covers more remote island villages than other similar books. Reads like an encyclopedia and thus compliments other books (eg. the Facaros/Cadogan book and this are a great combination) Better than Let's Go or Lonely Planet for solely islands travel. Doesn't have a very good Athens portion. I'd suggest getting the Facaros book first and then if a return trip or looking for more minute and/or remote detail get this to compliment.

One of three competitors
Two other books Lonely Planet and Greek Island Hopping are aimed at the budget traveller visiting the smaller islands. This one and Lonely Planet also cover the whole of Crete. Greek Island Hopping has more detail about actual travelling and about the boats themselves and more maps, but only touches on the northern ports of Crete. I like all three. Greek Island Hopping wuuld be most useful if you want to find out how to get to a small island, or how to get off one.

brilliant
This book does an amazingly good job of covering so many Greek islands so well. If it covers the island you're interested in (and it probably does), you'll be provided with plenty of accurate, interesting, helpful detail on any just about any specific area or village of the island which interests you. While agree the Athens part could be a bit beefed up (as we all invariably end up in Athens at some point or another for varying bits of time) the island sections far make up for it.

Fun historical for all the TARDIS crew
In England in 1648, the four members of the TARDIS crew split up to explore whatever takes their fancy. Inevitably they find themselves drawn into events around a plan to rescue King Charles from prison.

In this book, Mark Gatiss takes the opportunity to explore the characters, especially Ben and Polly. Ben was established as a sailor in his first appearance, but this book is his first real opportunity to demonstrate his nautical skills after he is pressganged into serving on a ship. Polly gets romantically entangled with a Royalist conspirator, although she doesn't learn this at first. And the Doctor and Jamie are imprisoned in the Tower of London (being Scottish, Jamie's supposed allegiances make him an enemy of the Lord Protector).

Mark Gatiss is a good writer. He paces things well, and understands foreshadowing. He is also fairly humorous (as one would hope, based on 'The League of Gentlemen' TV series which he is one of the writer/actors in) but not overbearingly so.

Even if you are not a fan of the Doctor's historical adventures, you may still enjoy this one.

Doctor Who rules, Mark Gatiss rules...period!
Doctor Who always appealed to me the most as a sci-fi/ horror hybrid, I never cared that much for the so-called 'history' adventures, of which there were a lot, especially in the early years.
Gatiss' ROUNDHEADS is a welcome exception. Here in Europe this writer is known foremost for his British tv comedyseries, I read somewhere he is also a big Doctor Who fan. This novel, for me, proves that.
There's a big passion evident in Gatiss' writing. He makes the world of Doctor Who (and history!) come to live, and he just draws you in it.

ROUNDHEADS is very conservative in it's set-up (and it's execution) but come and think of it, that's why I like it so much. It's about the Doctor (in his second incarnation) and his companions who wind up in England at the time of Cromwell and the roundheads. They get mixed up in a plot to help the captured king escape and also, when a history book from the future is misplaced and falls into the wrong hands, they'll have to set history back on it's proper course.
I won't spoil anymore for you, but rest assured, there's plenty of adventures en even some bloody, gruesome stuff, which I, as a horror buff just love! THIS IS GREAT STUFF! ...
GO GET IT!

I since have bought all of Mark Gatiss other Who books. Can't wait to read those also!

Timeline
December, 1648. Although victorious over the Cavaliersin the Civil Wars, the Roundheads are struggling to retain power. Plans are afoot to spirit King Charles from his prison, and 2nd the Doctor and his companions become embroiled in the intrigue... Ben finds himself press-ganged and on board a mysterious ship to Amsterdam. Polly is an unwitting accomplice in the plot to rescue the King, and the 2st Doctor and Jamie find themselves arrested and imprisoned in the Tower of London under suspicion of conspiracy. Can the Doctor and Jamie escape, manage to find Ben and Polly and still ensure that history remains on its proper course?

You Feel Like Part of the Crew!
The book conveys the daily activities and routines of life aboard several Great Lakes freighters. The author portrays an honest and factual look at his crewmates and what it all takes to keep one of these big ships on the go. By the time I finished the book, I was sorry to put it down and found myself longing to go on another voyage!

Didn't want this book to end!
Mark Thompson shares an enjoyable and interesting picture of life aboard today's Great Lakes freighters. You get to know the crew members as you become a part of their work day routine. As the reader, you become anxious to see what each new day has in store. I'm anxious for the sequel.

A Season on a Great Lakes Ore Boat
This is one of the best books that I have ever read! I could not put it down! If you have any interest in Great Lakes Shipping or life on a Great Lakes Ore Boat read this book! Mark L Thompson does not "Sugar Coat" what life is like on an Ore Boat. He is very open and honest about life in the Great Lakes Shipping Industry. Read this book you won't be sorry!

Yummy
This collection of stories was an amazing celebration of womanhood, including stories of love, life, and tragedy. This compilation covers all the bases of a woman's life from poverty and love in the heart-wrenching story "Christmas in the Silver Egg" to the humorous "I'll Never Understand my Wife," which deals with marriage. A Second Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul is satisfying, refreshing, and warmhearted.

It was a very inspirational book.
It was a very good book and it helped me alot with my problems. I have read the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul and I actually cried when I read some of the stories in it.

Excellent
I know you'll like this. It has helped and inspired me.

Surprised, to say the least!
Actually, I have not read this book yet. I thought it was a joke when I was browsing the KSCS website and saw that Hawkeye was plugging a book of his own doing. Knowing what I do about Hawkeye, I feel that I must see what THIS is going to be like!

This should be required reading for all women!
Having grown up with two brothers I thought I understood boys, and being a modern woman I have tried to understand men, and then I read this book. Paschal and Louis have woven together extremely witty tales that, wink-wink-nudge-nudge, try to explain boys, men and schmos (their term, ladies). Every woman should read this book to gain a better understanding of what men think, when they think it, and why they think it. If these two guys are still single, then females must be as dire as they portray us, because their intelligence and wit should have won them a heart a long time ago. This book is perspicuous, a quick read, and well worth passing along to all your girlfriends. I'm not sure why there wasn't a larger distribution of this book, because it definitely deserves a wide audience.

Women, read this book!
I heard Dorsey and Hawkeye talk about this book one morning and decided to read a few pages on line. An hour later I was hooked. My brother and I had an argument over who this book was written for. He says that it's a guy's book but I say that Hawkeye intended it to be for women.

Face your life!
The message is clear -- face the issues that are stressful for you. I enjoyed this book because it is realistic. If you have problems with stress, this book will help you.

Very interesting concept
James Loehr convincingly puts forth the argument that, instead of avoiding stress, you need to learn to embrace it and improve yourself by learning to adapt and effectively recover from stress.

An admittedly interesting concept. After reading this book I tried to make myself immune from headaches by banging my head against the wall for progressively longer periods of time. After two weeks I was admitted to the Emergency Room here at El Camino Hospital and diagnosed with a minor concussion. The attending ER doc, Dr. Lee, tried to pursuade me not to continue with this project. I told him about this book, but he was not familiar with it. I was afraid his ignorance would be detrimental to my project, so once I get my doctor's approval to go back to work, I'm going to try this again.

A great book for those wanting high achievement
An outstanding book for leaders and rookies alike searching for a guide to success in an organization. Let your stress work for you. This book will show you how. I recommend it to all who aspire to succeed in their careers.

Nice for nostalgia's sake, but stories a little bland
Having grown up in the 70s, this book features Superman stories which were new to me. These are the stories prior to Clark Kent's move to television and the creation of Morgan Edge. As the preface to the book says, many of the stories were told time and time again. It's interesting to see a time when comic books weren't always trying to be some dark statement. After all, Metropolis isn't Gotham City. This book helps you get a grasp of the changes the Superman franchise went through in the 60s, with dozens of new survivors of Krytpon, endless robots, an incredibly naive Jimmy Olsen, and a not-yet-liberated Lois Lane. Each story is "safe." Nice to look at, but if you're expecting anything of substance that you could, perhaps, ponder, hopefully a "Superman in the Seventies" volume will be coming out soon. Here you will see Clark, Lois, Jimmy, Morgan, Steve Lombard, and a less-important Perry White take on more human characteristics. Until then, this book will give you lots of super-simplistic stories that may or may not help you relive your youth.

Great Stories
Being a comic book fan who has lost interest in the "new" post-Crisis Superman, I found these older stories to be lots of fun. A more honest and innocent hero, and a great flashback to my impression of the character when I was younger. A great peice of pop-history.

Rick Phillips
This was a great book with only a sample of how great the 60's were to the Man of Steel. It showed how comics should be adventuresome, fun and innocent.
