The Natural History of Costa Rican Mammals
Published in Paperback by Distribuidores Zona Tropical, S.A. (15 January, 2003)
Author: Mark Wainwright
Amazon base price: $25.95
Average review score:

From the publisher
Most field guides provide very little information other than the features of the animal relevant to identifying it. Wainwright's book, however, contains loads of fascinating natural history information, written in an engaging, sometimes clever but never cute style.

Goes beyond 5 stars!
This book is handy for those who want to identify Costa Rican mammals, but it is especially appropriate for anyone who wishes to go beyond the simple question of "What's that?" It contains a wealth of natural history information on mammals' feeding, defecating, and sexual behavior. The author also describes ecological interactions and conservation issues. Hundreds of superb illustrations depict portraits of the animals as well as behaviors, food plants, and interesting details such as scats and penis bones. While the book focuses on species within Costa Rica, much of the information applies to mammals in Central America in general. The Natural History of Costa Rican Mammals serves as a fine reference book and a fun-to-read book at the same time.

I found a goldmine with this little book
Having an interest in the subject of medicinal plants, I have been looking for book that explained more about what compounds are in plants and how they affect not only people but nature as a whole. I was intrigued by the concept that plants produce these compounds as defense mechanisms for their own survival, and it is these same compounds that act as medicines (or poisons) when used by people. It also inadvertently explains plant companions for successful gardening. For instance, when Purple Sage leaves are crushed, they release a compound to nearby tomato plants to release their own insect inhibiting compounds. What a great book!

A fascinating & informative history of plant-based medicine
Before discoveries were made in the labs, plant medicines accounted for most of the substances used to cure disease. Natural History of Medicinal Plants provides a fascinating and informative science history of plant-base medicine, how people have learned the applications of such medicine, and why plants developed curative properties. Chapters will prove of use to both those involved in health professions and botanists alike.

The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies
I am totally impressed with the amount of information in this book. I went right out and bought a copy for my medical doctor. Thank you.

EASY TO USE
Dr. Stengler's book is an easy to use, fact-filled book. I have used alternative medicine extensively for the past 7 years, yet I found so much new information in this book. It is comprehensive, all the topics are explained well and easy to understand and implement, so that even a "beginner" would benefit greatly from it.
This book deserves at least a 5 Star review.

Navy SEAL Breakthrough to Master Level Fitness

Mark De Lisle Fitness Program
After having quadruple bypass, open heart surgery, I thought, "What could this program do for me?" How about a new life! I originally purchased Mark De Lisle's first book, "Navy SEAL Workout." The results I experienced were nothing less than phenomenal. As soon as I found out that Mark had completed "Breakthrough To Master Level Fitness," I had to have a copy. Breakthrough blows away anything else I have encountered in the fitness market. I have purchased other Navy SEAL workout books and videos but they were either too incomplete or did not sufficiently layout an effective program. Breakthrough however, contains exercises for upper body, legs, cardio workouts, sprints, long distance running, abs and plateau breakers such as Burn Outs, Intervals, and Circuit Training. And with 12 Weeks To Better Than Ever, which lays out routines on a day by day basis, you can't wander off the path to improvement.

With the 12 Weeks, I simply took the evaluation test and checked off each day. The routines were laid out right before me. It even told me when to do my burn outs, intervals and circuits. With the new book combo, I have been able to take myself up another notch. For a middle-aged business executive with heart disease, I need every edge I can get. I highly recommend this book combo over any other SEAL/fitness exercise book or video. Thank you Mark De Lisle, your program is saving my life and dramatically improving my lifestyle.

Athlete's Perspective
I have played College Basketball and have tried to stay as active as I can. Being the President of a nutritional company, I would like to stay as fit as I can. But through the years and injuries, it's gotten harder and harder to lift with free weights. So I went looking to an alternative that could give me results. My brother told me about a Navy Seal who has designed a revolutionary system that required no weights! I bought the book at a local book store and was amazed at the results. In my first month I lost 12 pounds, 3% body fat and 2 inches in my waist! For me, the best parts of the program are how easy it is on my joints, and the time it saved me working out at home! I would strongly recommend this program to anyone who; wants to lose weight, tone up, or find an inexpensive and effective way to work out from your home.

For Basketball Fans
Any real fan of the NBA and its history should own this book. Wonderful pictures on each page with interesting quotes and stories throughout. Does a good job of showing the evolution of the league. The forward by Halberstam gives a unique and thought provoking view of basketball and its impact on our world.

An Excellent Book For The Die-Hard NBA Fan
This book celebrates a league where greed now dominates, but where players once played for the fun of it. This book gives a nice summary of each of the NBA's fifty greatest players, and vividly describes the league throughout its first fifty years of exsistance.

Communism Bad, Gerson Good
Communism is bad. Any movement that begins there is headed in the right direction. Since it began with that simple proposition a few decades back, the neoconservative movement has had more influence on the political landscape than most of us realize. Many conservatives of differing sorts may think of the neoconservatives as a small cadre of northeastern Jewish intellectuals irrelevant to other forms conservatism, or may not think of them at all, but will learn when reading Mark Gerson's book just how much other brands of conservatism should credit the neocons for shaping their theories and paving the way for the resurgence of genuine conservatism in America. Mark Gerson set out to write a book about great thinkers like Irving Kristol and Norman Podhoretz, and in doing so has put his name on a level with theirs.

The Neoconservative Vision is now my vision.
Mark Gerson has illuminated an intellectual movement that carries the promise of freedom from the worn out structures of both traditional liberalism and conservatism. By capturing the essence of neoconservatism in a clearly written volume, he has done a great service to American political thought.

Microsoft's Internet Toolkit Put Simply
This book is a fantastic resource for those who are just entering into Wireless Application Protocol. It contains advice for users on how to get an IP address for their mobile phone through to developing complex algorithms for use on such devices. The terminology is clear and an example of this is the description of Blue Tooth Technology in Figure 3.7.

It is a dynamic book and has been created so that the reader can gain comprehension through the passages and the graphic screen shots.

Overall it is a very important tool book for those interested in the developing trends occuring in IT and the associated products.

An excellent reference
A great introductory reference for the novice WAP developer - easy to read, cumulative skill development, comprehensive examples. Also a good introduction to .net programming.

good material
the material in this book is absolutely great. the concepts that are presented are something one wont get in college. the graphical user interface chapter, i think should have covered additional aspects like cohesion and coupling and good GUI practices in the software industry. the book is definitely a good buy even now ( though it is 2 years old)

Very good material
This book covers a wide area of subjects related to Client/Server architecture, networks, architecture design, implementation guidelines, strategy, security... There is a good balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. Due to the extend of the subjects, it can not go in depth in all points, but it is definitely a very practical and usefull reference book, probably aimed at managers and consultors who want to update their knowledge or learn on specific network development. Price a bit step, but again there is a lot of information, and with Amazon discount, it makes it a good buy.

Neuro-Oncology: The Essentials
Published in Hardcover by Thieme Medical Pub (15 January, 2000)
Authors: Mark Bernstein and Mitchel S. Berger
Amazon base price: $169.00
Used price: $125.00
Average review score:

Outstanding book on the basics
This book truly does provide all the essentials in neuro-oncology. While written for the clinician, it is understandable by a determined, somewhat informed non-clinician.

Its only fault is that of many printed books. There are so many advances in medicine and technology that the reader needs to supplement the book with medical journals to be truly up to date.

I recommend brain tumor patients who would like a technical view of neuro-oncology get it through inter-library loan from their nearest library.

I'm a patient with a glioblastoma grade IV. I was lucky enough to be operated on by Dr. Berger, one of the best neurosurgeons in the United States.

Unique book in the quickly changing field of Neuro-Oncology
Recommended audience: Neurosurgeons, medical oncologists, neurologists, and radiation oncologists.

This is a new book written in eight sections covering most of the important aspects in Neuro-oncology including tumor biology, patient evaluation, surgical strategies, radiation therapy and the novel chemotherapeutic and biological modalities. With its special features, namely pearls, pitfalls, controversies, and special consideration, the salient points and issues in each chapter are highlighted for the reader. The last two sections in the book deal with specific problems and some related issues in Neuro-oncology. The book is printed in two-tone format and contains abundant illustrations. This is a unique book in the quickly changing field of Neuro-Oncology.

Good introduction
It is a good brief introduction to Neurology, applicable more toward students and non neurology residents. It has five chapters: Basic, H & P, Investigation, Problemes, then Syndromes and Diseases, organized in topics, each conatins high quality tables, graphs, images, and a simple text rich in helpfull, to the point information. Being only 130 pages will allow reader to finish in short time making it a good prepartion before neuoroly rotation.

An excellent basic neurology text
I was looking for a simple yet professional presentation of neurology for students in a electroneurodiagnostic training program that I organizing. Drs Fuller and Manford have well balanced text and illustrations that quickly convey difficult information. I am impressed with the logical layout and high quality drawings and pictures.
