A truly amazing book about a truly amazing artist
The beautiful reproductions of Mark Stock's paintings enticed me to keep reading this interesting book about a gifted man and his work. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in art and the artist of the 21st century. Mark Stock is the modern Renaissance man.

Highly recommended addition to art studies collections.
Mark Stock has designed several critically acclaimed sets for the Los Angeles Chamber Ballet and other Los Angeles-based dance troupes. He has authored the screenplay for the 1993 film Fleshtone (based loosely on his life and painting motifs). He spends most of his evenings drumming for a professional jazz trio at the Cypress Club in San Francisco. With the publication of Mark Stock: Paintings, he will now be recognized as a superbly talented and imaginative painter whose artwork is as memorable as it is engaging. The majority of the 112 oil paintings featured focus on the tribulations of romantic passion and ranging from sympathetic to ironic. Barnaby Conrad's lucid text, sprinkled throughout with black and white photography, uniquely showcases and introduces Mark's artwork. An informative essay by Mark Huge Miller deftly examines the connection between much of Mark's work and the seductions and betrayals that were so characteristic of the film noire genre. Mark Stock: Paintings is a highly recommended addition to any personal or public library 20th century artbook collection.

Great adventures-of-youth story.
This book claims to be about a modern-day Tom Sawyer, and I was delighted to find out that that was absolutely true! Just as Twain wrote Tom Sawyer to remind adults how to be kids again, this book reminds our children of today's video games, etc. that they can still have real adventures. It is a quick read and includes a lot of cool information about Mark Twain. The models of different types of writing are an added bonus. This is an excellent book for "children" of all ages!

A great book of adventure stories. It has a lot of writing
This book is about Mikey Thompson of Hannibal, Missouri. It has a lot of things about Mark Twain, who I really like. What I really liked too about this book is all the writings such as book report, editorial, letter writing, and essays, too. I use it in my classroom. my teacher really liked it, too

Mark Twain Does Hawaii
I picked up this book at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and read it while touring around Oahu and Molokai in late 2001. Having been to all the islands of Hawaii I can say this work really catches the flavor of the place. Twain narrates his own adventures as well as providing his unique commentary on the customs, culture and history of the islands.
A very entertaining piece, particularly for those who have been to Hawaii or are planning a trip.

Very Interesting and Informative
This is a book taken from the letters of Mark Twain during his visit to the Sandwich Islands, which are now Hawaii. It is a very interesting and informative look at Hawaii in the 1800's. Mark Twain uses his usual humorous and lively writing to tell of his experiences and adventures while there. Experiences from the humorous writing about his horse "Oahu" to his adventures touring the islands and volcanos by horseback and entering an active volcano crater at night! He also tells of the great beauty of the islands and rain forests. Very good book and easy to read and understand.

Excellent university/library whodunit
This auspicious debut mystery will please readers who enjoy an academic or library milieu and abundant literary allusions. The ingenious plot involves a group of eccentric English-department faculty members, a handsome FBI agent, plagiarism, thefts of valuable books from the library, and, of course, Mark Twain. It's a well-written, literate novel, and the two sleuths, amateur and professional, are likable, intelligent characters. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the sequels.

A great mystery thriller
Skom's first in her three-book series. I read this awhile ago, long before I anticipated the publishing of another Skom mystery, and I was immediately wrapped up in a teriffic whodunnit. I reread this book, and I reccomend the avid mystery-lover jump on it right away!

A good supplementary introduction
This is a good introduction to Mark appropriate for all mainstream, non-conservative Protestant laypeople (I'm Lutheran ELCA myself), to be read in addition to - but not instead of - Rhoads et. al's "Mark as Story" and even more accessible than that essential general study.

It's basically a study of Mark focusing on it as the Gospel that's hardest on the disciples, submitting to us that the disciples failed and it's our responsibility to complete their mission and challenging us to finish the story. It also explores the fascinating 1st century background in which the Gospel was written - including the effect that the Jewish War and the destruction of the temple must have had on Mark's community. There are several references to the inadequacy of the RSV of the bible that will start to become dated as more people start using the NRSV, but that's a relatively minor criticism all in all.

An enjoyable read designed for general readers rather than scholars.

Really Understanding Mark
The bible is more complex than most people realize or care to admit. This book really goes deep into full meaning from the history of first century Jewish faith. This book is a must. You will never go back and read Mark the same way. This book increased my knowledge and therefore ended up increasing my appreciation of Jesus (And Mark).

Quietly Profound
Mark Collins has a knack for drawing out of everyday life moments and experiences that are often overlooked, but once studied turn out to be deeply profound and emotional. His stories don't deal with celebrities and shipwrecks, and for that we can be thankful. Rather, they take on life's greatest challenges and dramas--losing sleep to nurse a sick child back to health, making it to work day in and day out when one would rather be irresponsible, dedication to the ones we love. Anyone with a heart will greatly appreciate this writing.

An engaging, relevant work for 30/40 somethings
I enjoyed this book immensely. Assuming I am close in age to the author, I found many of the short stories true to life , sometimes too close for comfort! I recommend this to anyone looking for a good weekend or vacation read, you won't put it down.

Best AutoCAD book ever written, period!
I've had several AutoCAD books but none of them compare to Maximizing AutoCAD R13 by Rusty Gesner, Mark Middlebrook and Tony Tanzillo. The text is very easy to read and understand and includes clear and concise examples and screen shots. I am an experienced AutoCAD user and this is now my AutoCAD bible. The only problem now is I can't wait to get my hands on Maximizing AutoLISP which has been delayed to include Release 14. Excellent job guys

Excellent Book for R13c4 customization and productivity
I had very little experience with AutoLisp or AutoCAD programming, but now I am progframming the new accellerator keys and assigning our old R12 AEC lisp routines to the new toolbar feature. This book comes with a CD that creates a developer's environment and guides you through the maze of methods for ACAD customization that now exist and brings you up to speed on the prevoius versions .lsp, .mnu and .pgp file usages which are still supported. This is an excellent book

Great School, Great Book
I attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine longer ago than I care to recall, but I am personally familiar with many of the doctors and incidents depicted in this well-researched and interestingly written book. It contains more facts per page than anything I have ever read (with the possible exception of the Yellow Pages), but that's the way it should be in a history that documents the key years of an institution that changed from a small medical outpost on the prairie to--as the authors brand Oklahoma taxpayers' expectations--a "Harvard on the plains" medical complex. While the school perhaps never achieved that level of academic excellence, it certainly rose far higher than the Oklahoma state legislature and it's turf-protecting politicians had any right to expect, given their meager level of support both financial and political. Politics aside, the 50's and 60's were great times to be living in Oklahoma City, and this book brings back many of my fondest memories--and reminds me of the many brilliant and industrious men and women I met and worked with at the Medical Center. The book captures it all beautifully, and I highly recommend it for anybody interested in the subject.

A "Must Read" for Med Students, Educators, History Buffs
I found the book to be extremely interesting, and even humorous at times. The book offers a play by play event listing of the establishment of the medical school and tells a candid story of the founders and individuals that were ultimately responsible for what kind of medical facilities, Oklahoma has today. A "must-read" for Medical Students, Educators and generally any History Buff that would enjoy the "inside" story behind the Oklahoma Medical Center. The photographs are a plus.
