Want to change your world??? Change your thoughts...
This is the most awesome cassette. I had read the book. But this audio cassette is wonderful to listen to in the car during your commute, or in the house while cleaning etc. I listened to it every day for over a month and my life was transformed. I continue to listen to it from time time to keep me on the right track. Mr Allens voice is also soothing and powerful. The writing is poignant and beautiful. Enjoy. Your life can only get better and better.

"Mind over Muscle, Mind over Matter, Mind over Everything"
That quote is from Denis Waitley's "The New Dynamics of Winning" but it well captures the theme of this book. This book is about the power of one's own thoughts, the thoughts that we truly hold about what is possible, who we are, at the deepest level of our beings, to make themselves come true.
The book is divided into seven chapters, "Thought and Character", "The Effect of Thought on Circumstances", "The Effect of Thought on Healthy and the Body", "Thought and Purpose", "Thought as a Factor in Achievement", "Visions and Ideals" and "Serenity". In chapter 1, Allen writes, "(you) contain within yourself that transforming and regenerative agency by which you may make yourself what you will" (pg 25). One shapes one's own character by the controlled application of thought, will and action. In chapter 2, "...the outer conditions of your life will always be found to be harmoniously related to your inner state" (pg 32). People who love themselves, attract love from others; people who believe they can be sucessful end up causing their belief to come true and being sucessful. Skipping ahead to chapter 7, he writes that serenity is the effect of "see(ing) more and more clearly the internal relations of things by the action of cause and effect, we cease to fuss and fume and worry and grieve, and remain poised, steadfast, serene" (pg 85). When we come to realize that everything we want or fear has certain causes and that to a great extent we have control over those causes, we ceased to be frazzled by external circumstances because we sense a tremendous locus of power within our ownselves to shape our lives, to be the cause of those effects we desire and to stop being the cause of those effects that cause us suffering.
A great book that probably requires some unpacking by the reader given that it is so concise. Highly recommended.

Hits the nail on the head of the cosmos!
This tiny, surprisingly easy-to-read book by James Allen sets you on the edge of your state of being as if by surprise! Stirring, spirit to spirit talk that leaves your life story flashing before your eyes for your re-examination as you ponder its profound basic truths. Upon completing its reading, it left me speechless and in a state of awe (especially due to the fact it was written almost a hundred years ago) that it touched me very deeply at the fiber of my being.

Awakening with the Enemy : The Origin and End of Male/Female Conflict

Emotionally liberating self-knowledge
Awakening With The Enemy: The Origin And End Of Male/Female Conflict is very highly recommended reading to anyone who has ever sought insight and understand regarding the dissatisfactions that seem endemic in today's marriages and relationships. Mark Dillof, founder of The Philosophy Clinic, Binghamton, New York, rejects the currently popular myths of males and females being inherently so different that mutual understanding and shared, co-equal marital unity is biologically, psychologically unattainable. Awakening With The Enemy is an effective, "reader friendly" guide to using male/female conflict as a route to new levels of unity, a uniquely Western route to Eastern wisdom, a blueprint for transforming life's negatives (conflicts, anxieties, troubling desires, frustrations, heartbreak, despair) into emotionally liberating self-knowledge and a total cessation of gender-based hostilities.

Packed with applicable, practical, effective advice.
Awakening with the Enemy addresses issues of romantic love and mental health, telling the reader how to transform communications with the opposite sex. From the secret of awakening into a mutual new path in life to overcoming common obstacles in the male-female union, this is packed with advice applicable to overall encounters between the sexes.

"Awakening...." is amazing!
Dillof has written a highly original book that brings to light the root of the conflicts that underlie modern romance. Awakening With the Enemy successfully walks a fine line; it is erudite while being highly accessible; indeed, engaging. You won't need a PhD from Yale, or even experience reading other books on philosophy, psychology, or eastern religions to benefit greatly from this book. Nor is it simplistic, offering vague generalities that are supposed to cover the entire gamut of human experience in its infinite variety. As Dillof shows, not all men are from Mars, nor are all women from Venus. But no matter what planet they're coming from, men and women are attempting, through their love life as well as through the other activities of life, to attain "completion". "Well, of course, everbody knows that!" you say. The difference in Dillof's book is that he sets out to define exactly WHAT "completion" is, and having done that, shows why it is so elusive, so exasperating to attain, leading us through a maze of different attempted "solutions". Then he maps out the most common of these "solutions" in the arena of relationships.

It is very possible that, while reading this book, you will see yourself and your significant other, being described (as was the case with me). Are you a "Sisyphus" an "action hero" or a "pitbull"? If you're a woman, perhaps you're playing the role of "matriarch" or "princess" or "spitfire". Whatever the case, this book will point you in the direction of moving beyond the tiresome dance that you and your partner are engaged in day in, day out. Highly recommended.

A real home run!
The interpretations and graphics on these cards make them a real delight to use. I am actually playing tarot. I have used many different decks but this is by far the clearest for me. This is a great way to introduce sports minded men to this wonderful practice.

What a great gift
I just purchased this set as a his/her wedding shower gift and everybody just loved them. They were passed around from person to person, the ladies and the gents each finding something of value from them. The art work is beautiful, the book very complete, and the card discriptions are really very insightful. They explain things in an easy to understand, applicable to today way. They were a hit. I have about 4 more people I'm going to buy decks for including myself. I doubt anyone would be dissapointed in this set. Certainly unique for a collector of either Tarot cards, or baseball paraphernalia. Thanks :-)

Great fun
The Baseball Tarot made the tarot understandable and enjoyable for my boyfriend. It is written in terms that are meaningful to him. We really enjoy our Tarot readings with these cards.

Anime Rpgs for all
I liked the book it makes it easy to create a rpg based of any kinda anime. The ruels are easy and simple. I've even started applying the weapon flaw rules to my D20 games

Role play with the best system
For those of you looking for that one "generic" system, look no further. Big Eyes Small Mouth is the game for you. Based on Guardians of the Order Tri-Stat system, BESM has all the rules necessary to create any kind of character you can think of and play in any world your imagination can create. The rules are simple yet complete, and you can concentrate on the details of the game without being bogged down by tedious rules. All dice rolls are based on 6 sided die. (The normal kind) so you don't need any polyhedral (funny looking) dice. Even though the game is suppose to be an "anime" based game, you can use it for any type of genre. The book is also very colorful and filled with great art. The pages are glossy and feels like those expensive manga books. Pick this book up and you won't regret it!

Not just for gamers!
I've never RPG'd in my life, but this book was a must-have for the groovalicious art. As a bonus, there are clear and simple descriptions of various manga and anime subgenres, and an excellent beginner's list of videos available in the US.

A Hidden Revolution
I have had the honour of reading numerous papers by Vernadsky and find as always with genius, a hidden underlaying dimension of truth. The Biosphere is without hesitation a work of scientific spirituality as well as pure scientific genius! In a time when environmental destruction is ramp, and politically controled scientific stupidity proliferates, logical hope and science is at hand. With Vernadsky science personifies a bridge between life and its meaning. Science is indeed the search for truth, and Vernadsky biosphere is a must for youth!!!!!

A work of rare genius rediscovered
It's hard to read this book without coming away with the impression of a powerful, original mind at work. Many of Vernadsky's ideas remain unappreciated to this day. In particular, the idea of life as a cosmological phenomenon, as a means by which energy is stored and transformed on a planetary scale, should become increasingly important as the science of astrobiology develops a rigorous intellectual basis.

Deepest Naturalist
I'm very happy that Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky becomes little by little known for the English speaking public. Although his "Biosphere" has been written over 70 years ago, even now its ideas remain fresh and actual. Indeed, the "Biosphere" provides a new level of thinking which permits us to consider Vladimir Vernadsky as a deepest naturalist of our century. And now I'm looking forward to the time when they will be translated and published his subsequent books - first of all the book on the noosphere: "Scientific thought as a planet phenomenon".

A gorgeous birder's guide for all ages and skill levels.
Collaborative written by Mark Elbroch and Elanor Marks, Bird Tracks & Sign: A Guide To North American Species is a gorgeous birder's guide filled cover to cover with full-color photography on thick, glossy, sturdy paper. From bird trails and feathers to pellets and nest, bird signs of every shap, size and format are presented, described, and lavishly illustrated. Portable, authoritative, and "user friendly", Bird Tracks & Sings is very highly recommended for North American birdwatchers and aspiring ornithologists of all ages and skill levels.

For beginners too!
I'm a beginner birder and tracker - When I first saw this book, I thought, fat chance, I probably can't even identify the birds' feathers or tracks because I'm still so new to the birding and tracking worlds. Still, I kept it around just in case - and when I found a feather or a track, I'd look up it in the book. It would take me less than a few minutes to discover the owner of the feather and tracks! That's thanks to the handy quick reference chart on the inside cover of the book! I now know I can go out and have fun with this book!

Tremendously Useful, Beautiful, and Creative Field Guide
Mark Elbroch's and Elanor Marks "Bird Tracks and Sign" is a gem.

No self-accliamed naturalist, tracker, birder, or nature educator should be without a well-worn copy in years to come.

This book fills a niche long absent from teh worlds of animal tracking and birding. What a wondrous blend of dazzlig photographs, informative text, and practical information.

My favorite travel book....
This book is fantastic for planning your trip between countries and used in conjunction with other travel books detailing the countries you're going to. I found myself relying more and more on it alone as a reference guide as I became more comfortable traveling, as it highlights the things to see / how to get there, and leaves the details to the traveler. I also found people fascinated by its hand-drawn maps (beware trying to get the book back from a crowd- including other travelers!). Now that I'm back, it's the only book that completed my journey with me, and resides in a place of honor on my bookshelf, tattered, dog-eared and stained.

I know a good travel book when I see one
I have read and perused many a travel book in my time and I have to say this one is a model for which others should be judged by. I have used travel books extensively through the 100 or so countries I have been to and I wish more travel tomes could match the authors love, maps and general details in their work as these two young fellas have....

Traveling with Asia Overland was a pleasure
I used Asia Overland for the first 8 months of a 13 month trip and found it to be excellent. It is written by two guys who are just travellers themselves and have an excellent idea of what is essential when arriving to a strange new place where you do not speak the language.

At the core of the book are simple schematic maps of each country/area with notes written on them which rate and describe destinations, give travel times and costs, and even give recommendations of guesthouses or restaurants. More detailed maps are provided for large cities or areas particularily dense with things of interest. The format is very easy to understand and allows planning at a glance rather than by reading through pages of cross-referenced text. Again their grasp of what information is essential was nothing short of incredible. The book also contains a dirth of border-crossing info and tells you which visas you will need and where you can acquire them. From their own accounts they understood the border rules better than the border guards did on a few occasions.

More than the information it provides Asia Overland is a well written quidebook. Mark and Wil are extremely upbeat writers. Their senses of humor and personal accounts really made me want to go to all the places they wrote about. In summary the book is informative, accurate, entertaining and inspirational. If you are planning a trip to Asia, one country in Asia, or just trying to think of some destinations to visit, I highly recommend reading this book.

Love that Dr. Inferno Jr.
Fun book, lots of great pix, and a spread on my favorite robot: Dr. Inferno, Jr. What's not to love?

Behind the scenes look
I've really been enjoying this book, ten minutes at a time. It explains the rules (I'm not sure I had realized there were any)behind the action, and includes capsule looks at number of bots I've seen locked in the box. The author talks about the costs of some bots, the time involved in designing them, and the number of upgrades they've gone through. I suggest this book for any fan of the TV show or the sport.

Bot Lover
This glossy coffee table book is packed with photos, robot CAD drawings and a thorough history of the BattleBots competition. The abundant photos, in depth builder and robot profiles and stylized design caputres the real spirit of BattleBots. I love the chapter on "How to Build a Bot"- the step by step tutorial and comparison of materials provides solid advice to newbie builders like me. It is the best book on robotic combat I have ever seen. A must for all robot enthusiasts.

Ann Stinger 's remarkable story finally told
This is the first book I am aware of to set down the extraordinary life and career of Ann Stringer in the detail it deserves. It's all the more compelling because it is autobiography---Stringer tells her story in a clear distinctive voice. Stringer's life is fascinating for its accomplishments and contradictions. She was tough enough to make it as a "newspaper man" under the most difficult conditions---as a war reporter during World War II. In the chauvinist world of war reporting --her reputation as a skilled reporter remarkably transcended her distracting physical beauty, including what one colleague called her "butter-melting eyes." Stringer's life and career seemed to begin and end with the loss of her fellow war-correspondent husband (Bill Stringer) to a badly timed burst of German gunfire somewhere in France. Bill's death prompted Stringer to take up where he left off and become a war reporter in the first place--a brilliant one at that---who stayed on even after the war to cover the Nuremberg Trials. But, her post-war life took incomprehensible and disastrous turns. This reader winced (as one suspects Ann did, herself) when she recounts how she ended up in the 1950s and 60s in Europe "baking meringue pies" for use in her German photographer-husband's pictures. Yet, as Ann Stringer tells her story, you somehow understand why she married a man whose countrymen killed her beloved Bill, stayed with him for several decades, and came gracefully to terms (better than many of us could) with her tragic life-wasting mistakes. There is something quintessentially female about the trajectory of Stringer's life in a really modern sense that makes you want to understand it better. This book provides a chance to begin to do so.

A compelling collection of personal stories
Featuring an introduction by Walter Cronkite, "Bravo, Amerikanski!" And Other Stories From World War II by Ann Stringer (as told to Mark Scott) is an impressive and compelling collection of personal stories (sometime uplifting, sometimes heartbreaking) narrated by Ann Stringer, who lost her journalist husband in Normandy during World War II, and subsequently found the courage to take his place as a reporter. Beautiful, determined, and one hundred percent focused on her duty, Ann Stringer encountered both the horrors of war and the celebrations of freedom, including the liberation of Nazi concentration camps and the linkup of American and Soviet armies at the Elbe River. A highly recommended look at a unique woman's experience as a war correspondent, and the experiences and observations that would change her life forever, "Bravo, Amerikanski!" And Other Stories From World War II is a welcome and valued contribution to the growing library of World War II autobiographies and memoirs.

A poignant recollection of what is known as "the good war."
I found Ann Stringer's story and recollections, as recorded by Mark Scott, to be exciting, sad, and poignant. She is a reminder to women of today that there were outstanding women like Ann Stringer who were making their own destinies by taking bold steps into unknown territory many decades before the "feminist movement" took hold in this country. Ann was one of a few courageous women who chose to be war correspondents and really put their lives on the line on the front lines of the war. The sad aspect was that she had hoped to do it all with her husband, who was also a war correspondent, but he was killed just outside Paris before she could join him. Even in the midst of her grief, she was determined to carry on, for herself and for his memory.

I personally experienced in 1985 the phenomenal 40th anniversary reunion of World War II American and Russian soldiers who had linked up at the Elbe River in Germany during the last days of the war so her recollection about being the second war correspondent to reach troops from both armies was particularly exciting. She got there while they were still joyously celebrating the reality that, now that the two great armies had met up, the German soldiers would be surrendering and the war would soon be over. Her true gutziness was revealed with her story about the lengths she went to in order to get back to Paris and be the first to file the story about the historic link-up! Yet her recollections did not end with the conclusion of the war. The book goes on to share her experiences following the war--going into the ravaged cities of Europe, seeing the despair, hopelessness, and hunger of the people throughout. She also covered the Nuremberg Trials for 11 months, witnessing first-hand the Nazi leadership on trial in the Palace of Justice. Finally, I was especially touched by the poignant way in which she reflected towards the end of the book about lessons to be learned: "Wars are cruel to all sides, no matter whether you win or lose. One of the major issues of the Trials was the condemnation of aggressive wars. Another was recognizing how vicious a doctrine of hatred can be. Yet another was that orders are not always enough. Just to obey an order does not absolve you of all guilt. We can still prevent wars by getting to know each other, to realize that "they" have some of the same problems "we" have...." For this and for historical reasons, everyone should read this book.
