Busy mom great read
As a mother of three active children, I am often dismayed at the amount of time I have to read. It is easy for me to start a book, but difficult for me to finish. I enjoyed Mark Jude Poirier's The Naked Pueblo and was able to complete a story in a short amount of time. Mr. Poirier developed the characters so authentically that the book grabbed me like a novel. His descriptions made vivid pictures in my mind. Many times I laughed aloud at the quirky images he created. Thank you Mr. Poirier for getting my mind off of homework, basketball practice and changing diapers if only for a moment.

Multi-dimensional characters and poignant stories
The reader from Seattle: did you even read the book? When reviewing a book, at least get the facts straight. The young hooker was NOT in a trailer park, she was in a recreational vehicle parked next to a lake with water "like Pepsi." The stories here are raw, sometimes hilarious, and always meaningful. Poirier is adept at finding the beautiful in the ugly or mundane.

An unforgettable collection
Mark Jude Poirier has one of the freshest and most distinctive voices I've ever come across. The stories in Naked Pueblo are wickedly funny, exceptionally well-observed and well-written, intelligent, and, without fail, entertaining. As uncompromising as they are, there's a real warmth to them as well, and this warmth emerges in surprising, subtle, and powerful ways. "Cul-de-sacs" and "Tilt-a-Whirl" were my favorites, but every story in this collection is a winner, enjoyable and memorable. It's a rare achievement. I can't wait to see what Mr. Poirier gives us next.

(I came back to order more copies to give to friends, and found that it's no longer available. What gives? It'd be a real shame--and a grave injustice--if this book is allowed to disappear.)

A Celebration of truth and Love
This book is written with the absolute truth and Love that Mario Lanza deserves. As a up and coming tenor the book gives insight and guidance on Mario to guide my career. Not only is it written well but the pictures speak more than a thousand words. Mario Lanza was a true, Loving, kind, warm, compassionate, as well as a singer to lead new talent into the new Millieum. Once you begin to read the great work of Damon Lanza, Bob Dolfi, and Mark Muller you will not stop until your finished.

New Book on Mario Lanza Sets Record Straight
"Be My Love -A Celebration of Mario Lanza" By Damon Lanza, Bob Dolfi, and Mark Muller is an entertaining and factual publication on one of the greatest singers and entertainers of the 20th century.

It features information culled from Lanza's personal archives as well as reminices from people who were collegues and friends of the great tenor. There are even sections by singers who were influenced by Lanza. Throughout the work there are many fine photographs a good deal of which are being seen for the first time.

This book shows Mario Lanza as he was and would like to be remembered and finally dipells the rumor as to the cause of his pre-mature death.

It is highly recomended not just to Lanza fans but to anyone who is interested in reading about a man that came from simple roots and went on to become a major force and influence in the music and entertainment world as it is today.

The Best Truthful Book On Mario Lanza
I have read every book published on Mario Lanza, and the past books I have read, were nothing more than pages filled up of dishonest untruthful facts.

I have re-read Be My Love A Celebration Of Mario Lanza twice. Each time I read this great novel. I could not put it down.

It is indeed a great pleasure to be able to read a book on Mario Lanza, that is not filled with filth! The Authors Damon Lanza and Mr. Bob Dolfi should be commended for publishing such a great book, that tells the true facts that Mr. Lanza was not murdered by the mafia as stated in other books. In the Be My Love Book, the authors Damon Lanza & Bob Dolfi have proven to the world that Mario did die of a heart attack. Mr. Mario Lanza had suffered from 3 heart attacks, in which the third one was the one that took this great talent away from us all.

I have recently bought 3 more books to give as gifts to family and friends. This book, "Be My Love A Celebration Of Mario Lanza" is a book that all families will not have to fear in seeing pages filled with garbage, filth, and lies.

It was about time such a book was published. This book in my opinion not only deserves a 5 star rating...But how about a 10 star rating?

We thank the authors for publishing a truthful book on our idol Mario Lanza.

Terry...A dedicated Mario Lanza Fan

The Grooming of ALice
I'm a huge fan of the entire ALice series and have read almost every book. The Grooming of ALice is definitley one of the best but I found parts of it a little unrealistic. I'm the same age as ALice in this novel and that whole mirror thing was weird. I mean do what you want but, well why would you go tell your father about it. I thought the stuff with Pamela and the ending were the strongest points. My other complaint though is ALice and Patrick's relationship. I'm sorry but most 14 year olds, especially if they're in a serious relationship have gone farther than Patrick and ALice. I definitly recommend this book but those of you ALice's age, will find parts of it annoying.

Very realistic and as good as always
Going through the period of time Alice and her friends are in The Grooming of Alice myself--the summer between 8th and 9th grade--I was startled by how well the book, in main theme at least, mirrored what for me is reality. As my friends and I have become increasingly self- and weight-concious, I have wrestled with a desire to be thin(ner) and a fear of anorexia or the like. The Grooming of Alice not only addressed this, it offered a sensible but not official solution as well as girls'

general fears about the normalcy of their bodies. In the same breath, it was funny as always and incorporated so many components of life, almost everyone should be able to find something to identify with. A few show-don't-tell lessons were a little too obvious, but, hey, this isn't meant to be Shakespeare. It's a good, easy, entertaining read about growing up a girl.

The Grooming of Alice
I am a big fan of the Alice series and have read each book a number of times each. Before this book the books seemed kinda unrealistic. Like some of the stuff they did I never would do. But in this one it talks about the disese anorexia. I think it is good to educate kids about that cause I know someone that has that and it has TOTALLY ruined their life. So I really recomend this book to everybody.

Magical
I just read Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm to my little brother who is 6 years old. He got it at the library and had it sitting on the table when it caught my eye. The illustrations are excellent! I am a future art teacher, finishing up my last year of college. We have been looking at different books that could be incorporated into lessons. This book is a must for my class! I love the possibilities that this book gives for stretching a child's imagination and creativity. It's very appealing because of it's colorful images and magical story.

great story with interesting storyline.
Favorite characters: Harvey Potter, Wheezle Mayfield and a young black girl

Harvey Potter is a quiet farmer. He grows balloons on corn stalks. He grows all different shapes of balloons. He has round, long, animal, clown, and scary-looking balloons. He people in his city have always wondered how he grew his balloons. So Weezle Mayfield calls the government to check Harvey's balloons. When the government arrives, they check out his balloons. Harvey is nervous when they check his balloons. The government finds nothing suspicious, so they leave. Later, a little girl who is a friend to Harvey, hides up in a tree and is amazed of Harvey's secret to growing balloons.
This is a great story with interesting storyline. The pictures of the balloons growing on a corn stalk are really cool. The pictures really enrich the story, opening your imagination, which makes this story a great read. Most young children will have no trouble understanding the words in this book. The pictures are amazing, they are almost as good as the book. This is a great story to read and share to young children. I give this story a 5 out of 5.

Endless Fun
I have lost track of the hours that I have looked through this book with my daughter. Not only to re-read the text, but to enjoy the amazing illustrations with the hidden characters on each of the detailed pages. Mr. Buehner, as usual, has done an excellent job of bringing the characters to life, and Kudos to Jerdine Nolen for giving us such a wonderfully creative story.

Great Advice On Fundraising
When I began to raise money for my medical internet start-up I needed quick advice on the arcane world of angel financing. Angel Investing gave me all the answers from how to find investors to negotiating the deal as well as an understanding of complicated issues such as "convertible debt." The appendix on Angel matching services is the most complete and best I have seen and the appendix on preparing a business plan is invaluable.

We successfully raised $800,000 and we are preparing for our first VC round. My only criticism is that the book should have been called Angel and VC Investing because it contains a wealth of information on VC fundraising as well.

In-Depth, Practical Information on VCs and Business Angels
"Angel Investing" is a terrific reference for anyone preparing to seek early-round financing for a business. As the co-founder of a start-up, I have been searching for practical, real-world information on the capital market and the differences between the various options.

This book has been useful throughout my research. It contains an eye-opening comparison of Venture Capital groups and Business Angels. It also gives practical advice on what capital investors look for, what to include in your business plan, what to look for in an investor, as well as how to value your company and negotiate with the capital firms. I have found it invaluable and it has saved me countless hours in my search for seed money.

The Bible of Angel Investing
After reading a book review sent to me from The Fort Worth Star-Telegram ("Angels with Golden Wings", September 4) which labeled this book as the "bible of angel investing" I was skeptical, but decided to buy the book anyway. Since receiving it three weeks ago, I have read through most of it and overall have been very impressed. The authors' insights on the US angel market and on angels' investment behavior are very complete and all together impressive - their findings and advice are certainly aligned with my ten years of experience as an investor in three entrepreneurial firms. To top it all off, the resource section in the back is a jewel - for both entrepreneurs and angels alike. I have not been able to find a better book on the angel market.

Great Book
Recently I purchased Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul. I have just turned 11 years old. So far, I have enjoyed my newest Chicken Soup book. I have already received Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul as a gift, but now I believe I am growing out of it. I am almost a teenager who is going through her preteen years. This book has helped me find myself inside myself. I really love the authors who write Chicken Soup and the contributors who send in their funny, sad, and meaningful stories. This book talks about changes in life, getting older, the tough stuff we go through as preteens. My favorite stories are the ones of the people who are actually in their preteen years and how they deal with this tough time in their lives. Overall, I enjoy the book very much.

A very Soulful and deep book.
I love this book ! It helped me and many preteens through the hard times together. This book is like a Best Friend. You feel like you have "Shared experiences" with it so when something occours in your life, this book has stories about it to comfort you and help you through your troubles. This book was origanally supposed to be Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul 2, but they got so many letters saying they need a preteen book that they changed the name and added a few different stories. I found out that, when I read the Kids soul, It was too babyish for me and the Teen soul was a bit too mature for me( I am 11 years old). So thats how they created teh preteen sould for ages 9-13.I highly recommend this to you and every strugguling preteen out there. You can even read this book just for comfort if you wish. Please make some time to read this book.Thank you.

What An Awesome BOOK!
Loaded with fun-filled to tragic stories, Chicken Soup for the Soul is a great book to offer.
As some may say, "Life is filled with happiness"... When you are in your teen to pre-teen years... life doesn't seem as happy. Chicken Soup provides stories that relate to your problems and may be able to help you. But it's not just filled with stories that are sad and gloomy. This book has funny, interesting stories, too. It even provides poems!
I feel this book should be read by students in the pre-teen, to teen years. It's interesting and gives you some facts of life.

Although not a book dealing strictly with Buddhism, the manner in which important Buddhist principles are interwoven with Western psychotherapy makes for an especially palatable, accessible overview and introduction to the subject for Western readers. I'm not crazy about the "case histories" either, another review mentioned them I think, but it's a minor qualm and they do serve their purpose. Overall the writing is clear and characterized by a modesty that gives the book a cozy and inviting feel; but it does this without becoming inappropriately simplistic or trite, taking care that the reader does not fall victim to many of the common misunderstandings of Buddhism, and Zen thought. A reader who is already very familiar with Buddhism would likely find this book refreshing and pleasant, while a reader who isn't as familiar might find it a very profound and, due to the tie-in with psychotherapy, relatively practical introduction to the subject indeed. I knew only a little about Buddhism when I picked up this book, and the book served to stimulate and propel that interest greatly. All in all, an intelligent, interesting, and accessible book. Recommended.

Succinct, Lucid, Beautifully Written.
Mark Espstein explains the heart of Buddha and the mind of Freud simultaneously, and with greater clarity than ever I had read about either before. By describing, comparing, and contrasting buddhist and psychological practices, he clearly presents the goals and practices of both. Suffering comes from clinging to a false sense of self, from clinging to a sense of self at all and it is the aim of psychotherapy, buddhism, and this book to free you from your own shackles.

<P> Very Insightful - On Buddhism and Western Psychology

I've read much on psychology and Epstein's book is one of the best from several angles. It cleared up many misperceptions about Buddhism, and revealed its potential value.

It also did a wonderful job of presenting the case for introducing a spiritual component into Western Psychology, which has been sadly lacking, and possibly accounts for the pervasive ineffectiveness and limitations of psychology as it is practiced.

E.g., the references to work by many psychologists (Freud, Winnicott, etc.) were illuminating:
... Suspending the Critical Faculty in treatment.
... Absence of psychoneurotic illness maybe health, but it is not life.
... Even the best therapy can only return us to a state of "common unhappiness."

I recommend this book highly to lay people, and even more to professionals. As healers, they owe it to their clients. It's time to turn back the tide of analytical processes that have swamped the psychological practices, and usher in fresher methods that promise more enlightened treatments. Epstein's book provides a great direction if one will follow the behest, "Don't look at my hand, look where I am pointing!"

Comprehensive from the basics to more advanced techniques.
From it's basic introductory chapters to the indispensible appendixes at the end, this book is a great resource for all levels of HTML users. Examples are plentiful and explained in terms that are easy to understand. Topics are well laid out and easy to reference and the appendixes make searching for element tags, color numbers, definitions and much more a real breeze. The author also makes good use of cautionary sidenotes when dealing with code that may be incompatible with certain browsers. Overall, this book is a good value.

Great for beginners!
Covered a lot of essential fundamental skills. It gives you a better understanding behind HTML coding. You will need another resource book if you're planning to create a more technical site, however, it gives you a brief idea of what JavaScript & CGI look like. Great coverage on HTML frames, forms, grahics, links, dynamic styles, etc.

If you are not a good reader, prepare to spend extra time on this book. It tends to bore you out after a while.

Great book all the way around!
Thank you so much to Lois Patterson, you made a change in my entire life! About 9 months ago I was introduced to the idea of designing web sites. I figured I would give it a shot to see what would happen. I rummaged through some books at my bookstore and decided to buy this one. It is great! The author made every part of HTML easy to understand. Then when you are done with the HTML part, they give you an intro to other languages such as jscript, vbscript, dhtml, and cgi. I will only buy QUE published books for the rest of my web site education!

It's All Here - Active Directory, VPN, Security and MORE
I am senior UNIX and Linux system administrator that was recently tasked with the responsibility to deploying Windows 2000 servers. I began this effort by taking standard Microsoft courses and was very offended by the pro-Microsoft messages that were being delivered. What I needed was a comprehensive understanding of the operating system and not hype. After purchasing several disappointing books, I read the recommendations on Amazon about this book. They were right. This is the BEST book available on Windows 2000. It provides a neutral and easy to understand view of the structure and theory behind the operating system. These discussions are always followed by practical examples on using the technologies. New concepts such as Active Directory were handled so clearly that even a UNIX veteran like me could easily understand it. The book also provides superior coverage of security and networking issues ... the areas that are really important to integration with our existing platforms. The last chapter even provides review of character based commands. I recommend this book most highly !!!

A Real Life Saver
I am a member of a team responsible for rolling out Windows 2000 for a bank with several hundred branch offices. We have all searched for a single reference that can provide the information we need. Needless to say, we now have many books on the topic, but this is the best.

This book provides the answer we need. It gives great background on each topic and then gives us solutions. It is well organized with an excellent command line reference guide. The security sections have already been a life saver and suggested solutions that would have resulted in real damage otherwise. The Active Directory stuff is also super.

I guess that I must measure the value of a book by the number of times someone comes to my cube to borrow it. I can report that this book is always used by someone in the group. That is way my group manager is purchasing copies for the entire group. I want to personally thank the authors. Great job guys!!!

WOW ... BEST ACTIVE DIRECTORY AND SECURITY BOOK AVAILABLE
OK, I have never found a technical book that answers all my questions but this one comes as close as any I have seen. My concern is Windows 2000 security and managing that beast know as Active Directory. Both of these issues have dominated the press as the downside of Windows 2000. Fortunately, this work positively addresses the issues heads-on. The book reviews the major issues in an easy to understand format and then provides proactive actions for effective implementation. While I have several specialized books that address Active Directory and security issues, this book frankly does a better job than these specialized texts. This also is the only book that integrates the concepts. I only wish I had bought this heavy duty book earlier. Hopefully the authors have a Windows .NET book in the works.

Craft Scores Another Winner with "Body Language"
The third in the Mark Manning series brings our hero "home" as he juggles with career changes, an inheritance, and his relationship with devoted lover, Neil. As is the case of the two previous books, Manning gets involved in a murder mystery that hits closer to home, however: the death of a relative. He becomes one of the prime suspects and must seek to prove his innocence as well as nab the real killer. Neil, as well as Roxanne, are only for the ride. An interesting blend of new characters are introduced who add humor, pathos, and sexual tension in a truly fascinating work. Another added bonus is the change in narrative sytle; this one is written in the first-person style with Mark "telling" the adventure. Although the killer's identity is moderately easy to detect after the book's first third, it is still a fascinating read. For one thing, the reader will never look at khaki in the same manner. I know that I won't

Couldn't Put It Down
Craft's third installment of the Mark Manning series is without question his best work yet. When I opened the book and read Craft's thank you to Dame Agatha Cristie I was a bit dubious. Having read every Agatha Cristie novel, I wondered if Craft could pull it off. Well........ he does with aplomb! As any dedicated Christie reader can tell you, the reader always figures out who the killer is before the Perot or Marple does. The talent Christie and Craft share is they both have the ability to keep the reader interested even though the reader knows who the killer is.

Craft development of the characters and plot makes the reader "feel" he is there, whether it's jogging with Mark and Neal, eating cavier on New Year's Eve or witnessing the "outing" of the killer.

Mr. Craft, Dame Christie would be proud of your work!

Well done, as usual.

Body rock
Utterly riveting! I read the entire book in one day because I couldn't put it down. With inspiration from Dame Agatha Christie, Craft has outdone himself in this third mystery in the Mark Manning series. I was slightly disappointed with the previous book, "Eye contact", so I was hesitant to read the third. Am I glad I did! I cannot rave enough about this book. I think it even surpasses "Flight dreams".
