Helpful In a New Relationship
I have to say there are not many books out there that tells it like it is. This book is by far the best of them all. I hope Ken Kroll and his wife Erica Levy Klien write another one soon as possible with other stories. There were other issues I wanted them to hit on. Great Read.
WONDERFUL book!!!!!! - with one exception
My ONLY problem with this book is that it does not discuss GLBT issues. Nonetheless, this is the BEST book on sex/sexuality I have ever read, and the ONLY one I have read for people with disabilities. The drawings are AMAZING - VERY erotic but done tastefully. I could get turned on on just the pictures alone. Add the stories, and, in the words of my husband (we read this book together), "VA VA VOOM!"

Exceptional even applies to newer versions
I can't emphasize how true the previous reviewer's statement that "It is almost impossible to learn the full power of the Timberline Precision Estimating programs by studing the Timberline manuals. It's like trying to learn a foreign language with only a pocket dictionary. This book walks you through the concepts and structure of the program, so that the various pieces form a logical whole."
I would add that it has more indepth coverage than the training and users manuals.
Although this book only applies to the older DOS versions, I have found it invavluable to newer Windows 6.1 and 6.5 versions. In particular, how to organize and structure databases and assemblies. How grouping and sorting functions work for report. How to create smart assemblies. I just wish the authors would update this book for the newer Windows versions.
Excellent guide
It is almost impossible to learn the full power of the Timberline Precision Estimating programs by studing the Timberline manuals. It's like trying to learn a foreign language with only a pocket dictionary. This book walks you through the concepts and structure of the program, so that the various pieces form a logical whole. You learn to exploit the power of the program, rather than curse the complexity. The chapters on work packages, and especially the "intelligent work packages" are worth ten times the purchase price.
I highly recommend this book for any student of Timberline Estimating. I hope Mark Reich and Jud Youell are working on an updated version for the latest Timberline Estimating "windows" products.

Extremely worthwhile
As someone who did research, fact-checking, and preliminary runthoughs for Mark during the early stages of this book's making, I know firsthand how much work went into it. He went well out of his way to make this book simultaneously entertaining and enlightening. The book is obviously geared toward those who aren't math-oriented, but it would be a welcome addition to a math-lover's collection as well. Someone who has enjoyed John Allen Paulos's books "Immumeracy" and "A Mathematician Reads the Newspaper," would definately appreciate this too.
A must for anyone whose math skills have begun to rust
This book is great. I was shopping around for a basic math book for my wife, who recently got a management position, and stumbled across Everyday Math for Everyday Life. Most of the other book choices were just pages and pages of numbers, but Mr. Ryan does a wonderful job of putting the numbers into readable and understandable words. It is also well organized and clearly indexed. Now, the book is not only on my wife's desk, but I bought another copy for our reference shelf at home. I found the practical examples and explanations so well put that I expect to use Everyday Math as a resource to help my two school age children with their homework.

Truly a joy to read!
Man, this guy can write. Like Barthes, Gaddis, Pynchon, Moody, Mark Jacobson is a writer in love with words. Long known as one of the best and most poignant stylists in the magazine business--Esquire, Rolling Stone, New York Magazine, NY Times Magazine--Jacobson is an impassionned and supremely talented novelist. Plus, this book is thought provoking and funny. I am waiting for the movie to this one. Read it and laugh out loud about once per page.
Great book -- and a must read for other writers.
I am not a sci-fi fan, but this is an extremely compelling book -- and the first chapter is a perfect example of where literature could go in the years ahead if enough authors had that kind of talent and uniqueness of voice. Every writer and aspiring writer should read that first chapter. Every word counts and every word is perfectly chosen. The sparse, original speed-of-light tone can't be sustained as the book unfolds -- the supernatural aspects of the plot make avoiding cliches a challenge -- but the central character is so compelling that it is very difficult to put the book down or get it out of your head. I just read it straight through. The author's choices in what unfolds next in the plot are often beautiful and unexpected. These touches more than make up for the inevitably comic bookish excesses of all plots that involve the potential end of the earth. As an author myself, I am a tough critic and slam a lot of books. Not this one: it is well worth reading for style, dialogue, voice and more. It deserves far more attention than it has gotten. Must have made some Hollywood people nervous.... I congratulate the author on a difficult job well done.

the best book
this book is the great book. Each of the story have it own lesson for the reader. I like this book because end of each story there is an inner thought from the author of what is the lesson to learm from the story. this make it easy for young children to understand the valuable lessons behind the story easily. this book also bring an ultimate entertainment to the family. Even i am 23 years old, i still enjoy reading this book. I really think parents should buy this book and read to their children.
Just Silly Enough!
I bought this book for my 7 yr old, thinking it would introduce her to the standard bedtime stories of my childhood, before Arthur & Nicklodeon became such a part of our kids everyday life. Don't get me wrong - I love Arthur, but this book puts just enough spin on the stories to make my daughter laugh out loud when she reads. The author has suggestions at the beginning on how to make reading these stories more fun for all! Just when you think The Three Little Pigs couldn't be improved, Mark Binder throws a curve!! Nice & short, perfect for those sometimes rushed bedtimes. I definitely recommend this book for all kids!

If you buy only one book on Windows 95, let this be it...
If you can buy only one book on Windows 95, let this be it. The only reason I gave this book a 9 instead of a 10 is because it's on the verge of going out of date, and I would prefer a newer version (1998). HOWEVER, it's still the book to buy. The information is concise and easy to read, yet technical enough to those with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows 95. I bought it as a precursor to studying for the MCSD Windows architecture exams, and I think I made an excellent choice. Buy it!
Hold on to your keyboard & mouse. Possibly one of the best!
Have actually rated this book a "9.5", (actually a "10") in the spirit of the Olympics, leave room for the book that has that added edge is a true "10". Mark Minasi, Christa Anderson, and Patrick Cambell have truly done their home work on this one. There is a silent personal touch as you read through the pages, kind of like they understood what some people might be going through and looking for in a book of this type. Don't get me wrong as this is also a very powerful publication and is very useful at my level. It will more than meet the needs of the mid-range user to the power user, wouldn't recommend it to the novice. I just happen to have enjoyed the style compared to some of the other reference books I have used. The layout of both the sections and chapters give it a sense of organization making you feel comfortable reading. It allows a person to move around without getting lost, and if you do, the table of contents isn't very far away. Which is also very well layed out. If you are on, or work within, a network or an administrator in some capacity the network chapter is most excellent and very extensive! Networks are also mentioned throughout the other sections. Even contains a chapter and references throughout for the "registry hacks" that will show you the way, but be careful. The troubleshooting section is heaven. The entrie book fills those voids Microsoft has left out in it's documentation. The CD that is included makes this even a better buy. The multimedia portion is very informative and, again, well put together. The tools section is even better. If you are looking for a book(s) and CD package, I purchased the set which included "Mastering Windows 95" (The Windows 95 Bible) by Robert Cowart, this is the one to buy!! It will help guide you throgugh life with Windows 95. Thank you for the nice work everyone!!!

I really, really loved it
Dear Mr. Calhoun, I read your two books. One of theme is " Fair Play ". I really loved it because I like dinosours and I want to be a dinosour searcher like Fenton.I read your book in Turkish. This summer I want to read your other books in English. The " Fair Play " was my term homework. Next week I'll talk abaut it in my class.By the way I couldn't find any information abaut you ( as the outher of the book ). If you give me information abaut yourself it will help my homework and my friends will learn more abaut you and this will make me happy.Sincerelly, Mehmet
I loved it!
Dear Mr. Calhoun, I am a sixth grade student who has read every one of your Dinosaur Dectective books and am waiting every day for number eight and nine. I think you should keep the books going until you solve ALL the mysteries - since I want to be a dinosaur detective myself when I grow-up I know this will take a long, long time. This summer I am going on a week long dinosaur digging camping trip. I can't wait to live what I read about in your books. If you have time, could you please write back to me? I would really like to show a letter from you to my friends at school. I'm a slow reader, slowest in my class, but my teacher and parents are very nice and they know I will always read anything about dinosaurs. Thasnk you sOOO much for writing about a boy who is just like me. Sincerely, Stephen Hoffner-McCall 311 Summit Rd. Media, PA 19063 610-565-7196

Mystery/ Crime Thriller
Although this book is a (very good) mystery/crime whodunit, the story reminded me of Camus's "the Stranger". The central character, in 1st-person narration, gets caught up in bizarre circumstances which take him to their existentioal "No Exit" (to borrow from Mr. Sartre). Anyway, the male/female joustings ring true, even if cynical on the surfce. And the character of Blanche Nyquist has stayed with me since I read the book.
The Bad and the Beautiful in So Cal
A gripping and chilling encounter with the bad and the beautiful in Southern California. The style is quick and lean, and covers a lot of ground partially explored by James M. Cain and Ross MacDonald. Particularly memorable is the Palm Springs- Joshua Tree sequence that leads to the inevitable ultimate crime, which strangely enough seems in its own way justifiable.

Through a child's eyes
This book gives beautiful presentations about Christian life that can apply to young ears, and also to those who are more matured in the faith. This book can be an asset not only in children's ministry, but also as a tool for growth in the home. Churches everywhere should considder adopting this piece of literature for their benefit.
Concrete message for all
I found the book to offer insightful and concrete ideas for sharing biblical principles with children. The author takes extra efforts to keep the ideas fresh and easily understood by children. (Adults can find some truths here too!) An excellent book of ideas.

The Very Best!
If you were to only buy one book on reptiles and amphibians, this would be the one. No other author can come close to Rober C. Stebbins in this area. Not only is his writing, informative, easily understood, highly intersting and always engaging, but he also does his own drawings, from live specimens, and his artwork is quite incredible! I suggest that any parent of school age children consider buying this book as a present for his or her own kids. Young boys in particular are quickly attracted to this kind of work and a book like this will serve as a real foundation for years of study and enjoyment. Teachers too will often find that boys who dislike school and "reading" in general, will just love this book. Anything spent on this book is money well spent.
One Of The Crown Jewels Of The Peterson Field Guide Series
Written by the leading expert in his field, this is the best book on the subject. I remember when I was in college that Professor Stebbins' class was always impossible to get into because he was so popular and respected. This book is his legacy... a highly detailed book with hundreds of beautifully rendered drawings. Each drawing is meticulous and a great learning tool. This volume is one of the best of the Peterson Field Guide Series and is highly recommended for all readers, even if they never venture outside.
