A definitive, whimsical, and informed look into California.
Unlike average travel guides that list tourist traps in a droning disinterested voice, the author imbues California with life using a charming, very witty writing style. Simply put, he brings California to life for the reader. The guide he provides is unique and thoroughly enjoyable. The photographs selected are great in capturing the beauty of the state. I would recommend this book for anyone looking to explore California or just intersted in travelling through the written word.

Very Informative! Very Precise Information about New York
This book is a must for anyone planning to visit or move to New York City. The author, a native of NYC, presents information about the City, that is to the point and straight from the shoulder. The book is a commentary on the basics of surviving in New York, a summary of information about the different neighborhoods and boroughs of NYC, what makes New York City - New York and the general point of view of a native of the City. New York at Your Door gives you an inside look at what makes New York City tick and still intices you to come and try it for yourself. I would recommend this book as a welcome addition to the readers' libraries, who are natives or soon to be citizens. It is well worth the reading! Enjoy!

Keep this book by your breakfast table!!
A reference for people who love food and love words. I keep my copy beside the breakfast table and pull it out regularly to learn a little about what I am eating and how it came to be called by that name. I liked it so much I got copies to give away as gifts.

Total necessity for the serious modeler
This book is really great and fully explained. It's for the serious modeler wanting to find specific ways to customize. Or the modeler wanting to take that new step further. Anyway it is worth way more than what it costs.

continues to amaze
cy twombly at age 74 (?) continues to produce some of the most essential painting of modern times. his roots in early american absraction and his life since 1957 in classical rural italy have combined to create a most unique art. i only wish that the controversial 'commodus' series of 1963 was revisited and published in an affordable volume. any book on twombly that you can find in print, is worth the price. don't hesitate to visit the museum in houston, texas (can you belive it?) that is dedicated to his work.

Dad's Nuke

A wonderfully twisted tail of power and corruption...
...right in your own neighborhood. This is a strange book, but one of my favorites. It gets very strange, and could easily offend at many points. If you can find a copy, give it a try. This one is definitely a step above most of Laidlaw's books.

Wonderful! I could'nt get enough.
This is a wonderful book. I read it a while ago since I get my books directly from Bantam Books. It was sooooooooooooooo good. I have never seen a man quite as wonderful as Wyatt. And Annie was wonderful, especially in the beginning when she first met Wyatt and she was pretending to be her character from the Ren fair she was working at. I love mystery books and I loved this one cause I kept thinking it was the Mafia after her. I should have known. And the end was sooooo sweet. After I finished reading it I couldn't stop saying how sweet it was. Anyone who hasn't read this book yet should. Especially if you love magic. Mrs. Preston, keep on writting, you're great. I'm reading "The Damaron Mark: The Lovers" and so far so good. I can't wait to read the other books!

Understated, and beautiful, with good character development.
The renewal of Ash's life and world, from disasters she had a hand in creating, is told in deceptively low-key language, which grows to be compelling. After revolution with mixed resilts, plague and famine, the lands along the Madeena River are, like Ash herself, in a world class funk. The story opens in spring, with the first muddy thaw in the ground and in Ash's heart. The "Dancing Jack" of the title is a toy, whose effect on events.like so much else, is not obvious, yet may be considerable. The world is not a standard stereotype. Steamboats combine with potato farmers and clock-makers to divert attention from wonders building out of the corner of the eye. Conclusion: the book is much better than my review of it. It you have any tolerance for understated beauty, and have a chance to get it, try it.
