Vivid, engrossing short stories
Dancing Nightly in the Tavern, Mark Jarman's first collection of short stories, is dense and lively. The author has a truly unique sense of detail and expression, and depicts lives and places that many of us pass by on our way somewhere else. Jarman took the time to look, and to portray junkies, drunks, and lonely hearts without judgement. This book is entertaining and real -- highly recommended.

I couldn't put this book down
This is a fabulous book for mystery lovers and southern fiction readers alike. The intrigue of the "whodunit" storyline keeps the pages moving quickly, but there is substance behind the intricate plot. The mystery of why people keep dying in the small mountain town of Gainsboro, NC had me hooked immediately, especially when the detective is a cop turned undertaker. Yet some of the best moments in this book have little to do with the mystery itself...such as de Castrique's sensitive portrait of a family dealing with Alzheimer's. I hope de Castrique will return to these likeable characters and the perfectly captured mountain setting in a sequel!

I am certain that it will inspire many
Here is a story of one man's battle with Parkinson's Disease, and his victory over that pain. In this goal, Mark Sharp has been an inspiration as an author. He relays the immense struggles and life changes that took place for him and his family, and in the end we feel joy at his prognosis.

Here too, is a story of a Christian sharing his view of the gospel. If you are looking for guidance in this area, this is the book for you. I am certain that it will inspire many. However, if you are not interested in Mark's view of the power of God and the Christian viewpoint, I suggest that this is not a book for you. It could be argued that the book is pure propaganda, but since it portrays the events of this man's life, it is also a miraculous story.

The book is short but concise and to the point. The story is well written and the points of argument are well documented and introduced. While I do not agree with most of the content, the purpose of the author is fulfilled and I applaud him.

The basic idea of the book is comparing life with a game. There are rules to follow if you want to win and Mark spells out many of them and leads the reader to discover the rest on their own journey, and find their own coach waiting for them on the field. While my own coaches told me that winning is not important - it is how you play the game that counts, Mark's coach told him that winning is the most important, and that is the fun of the game. Different philosophies and different outlooks on life, lead to different appreciations for this title. Take it as you will. Either way, the joyous result of victory over a disease is a reason worth reading this one.

Forget the "Let's watch a video" date idea.
Dating 911 is a (fictional) radio program with John, Mark, and Big Wave Dave speaking with youth about how to make their dates more fun, while still keeping them inexpensive, and in tune with the Lord's standards. The best parts are when Big Wave Dave goes to the scene of bad dates, and fixes them so they become fun and exciting.

A MUST for Birding in Southeast Arizona!
As novice birdwatchers, this book was indispensable for planning our birdwatching trip to SE Arizona. It gave specific locations to visit for birds that you could expect to see there. Directions were clear and concise. With help from this book, we saw nearly every bird species we had hoped to see. This book is a must for this region!

A good tutorial
I have found this book to be an excellent reference. The coverage of the install process is especially useful - it is clearer than the installation manual! I also like the chapter on high availability, which has a good explanation of Sun Cluster technology and how the DB2 HA agent works. The book has step-by-step instructions for most basic DBA functions, and has never been far from my hand since I found it.

A Glimpse into Life in the Yakima Valley
Fr. Reynolds, S.J. has done a wonderful job of presenting life in the Yakima Valley of Washington State. This mystery takes place in and around this valley known for its orchards and hop fields. I found the book engaging and interesting up until the very end. The style is always very factual and as if you were in the valley travelling to Moxee or driving on Yakima Avenue. I rarely read mysteries, but Fr. Reynolds has made me a "convert" to this genre. Each book is easily accessible, but each one is also very packed with information. If you want a good summer read, you could start by bringing this book along for your summer vacation.
