Useless book......
This book is quite useless!!! It cover about 15 scale forms but it tell me nothing about when to use the scale forms! Save your money and buy other scale form related books! Moreover, it cover these scales with all notes... I think it is a BIG WASTE OF PAPER!!!!! Do you think it is needed? If you're a bassist, the answer is so clear.

The Gig Bag Book of Bass Scales
This book is exactly what it says it is...it is a very handy gig bag book to have if you play the bass. The scales are easy to read if you use tab or read music. It has all the different varieties of way the scales are played. It is just great...I highly recommend.

NOT useless, but VERY useful
Disregard the bad review - This book does not claim to be any more than a clear and concise book of bass scales. For that it is excellent. It's small size (thus the name Gig Bag) makes it easy to carry around. The scales are neatly presented in note form as well as tab (for those of use learning to read this is helpful). A good foundation book that any bassist can use.

Students found this to be informative but not presented well
Valuable, current information presented in a rather dull, uninteresting format according to MBA students. Very comprehensive.

good service
the service is very good and efficient

clear, understandable jargon
Marketing concepts are explained within global marketing frame in an understandable manner using the jargon everybody can understand. The principles that each company must take into account both at home and abroad are revealed. Especially, I liked "18 Guiding Principles of the Marketing Company". Articles from the scholars at prestigious business schools are related to global marketing concepts in most understandable way. This makes the book richer. Another thing making the book richer is Global Income and Population estimates, that is both put inside the text and at the end of the book as appendix. These estimates give clear grasp to the reader about world demographics and economic structure, and helps reader understand the subject at hand and, in general, world dynamics better. Interesting and information & expertise-loaded cases differentiates the book from other boring textbooks. The future of global marketing section of the book gives the reader an invaluable horizon. I suggest that you read it carefully, you will get too many things from it.

A good wide range, but spread too thin.
Well, there's my opinion in the title. This book covers a lot of different things from dialog boxes to sprites to 3d rendering. However, beware, if you are a beginner, you WILL need more than this. It covers dialog boxes in less than one page. It gives maybe one example program per major concept and just describes the rest. This book gives you a good basic understanding of the Windows programming environment. However, if you think you can just sit down on a Saturday, start typing up the source, and get it to run, think again. It may just be my horrible typing or my compiler, but I had some major problems with the examples used here and eventually had to borrow a larger one with more examples from a friend. Again, its a great overview, but it won't help if you have little idea what you are doing.

Very Informative but not for the novice
This is a very well written book on designing your own graphics applications for Windows, no matter what type of application you are wanting to do. Mark Walmsley goes into good detail about designing many different types of applications from simple display program to advanced subjects such as 3D modeling. Mr. Walmsley address many common errors and pitfalls with the included examples. The only downside to this book is that you must have a good working knowledge of C++ and Windows to be able to fully understand all of the concepts he describes. Being a relativly new person to C++ I found on many occasions having to look through many other resources to understand some items that the book takes for granted that you should already know.

I would reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in writing a graphics application, but I would say that if you are a beginning programmer you either will want to keep other books handy or try one of the other titles that is available first.

A good starting point for the beginner
The great strength of Walmsley's book is that it covers writing a graphical application under Windows, from start to finish. The reader is taken on a whistle stop tour of Windows GDI programming, vector and sprite based graphics, the mathematics of 3D translations, and even some assembly language tricks for speeding things up. It's a good place for a beginner to get into computer graphics, as the writing is clear and accessible throughout.

The trouble is that the breadth of material covered is at the expense of the depth of information. Programming with DirectX is conspicuous by its absence, and the theory doesn't go any further than 3D transformations. More advanced readers would be advised to purchase Foley and van Dam's "Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice" instead, though, to be fair, the books are aimed at different markets.

Novices beware!
Upon beginning my first project from this book, I was taken aback at the number of mislabelings, wrong dimensions, incorrect drawings and unclear (or downright confusing) instructions. Since this book is meant to appeal to woodworkers with little or no previous experience, it surprises me that so much misinformation found its way into print. A second, corrected, edition could make this flawed first effort into a truly useful resource.

Great book for a beginner
I took my first furniture/carpentry class at the local community college and built the garden sofa pictured on the front cover. I'm a woman and had never tried such a project. The instructions and pictures were terrific and my completed project now has a place of honor in my garden. I highly recommend this book if you're a beginner.

Great Beginner Book
I bought this book for my husband who had no experience with building furniture and little experience with power tools. He has made every project in this book, and several from other "2x4" books with terrific results. The instructions are simple and clear and everything has turned out as pictured. I have recommended this book to everyone who admires our patio furniture and is surprised to hear it's home-made. We have even added decorative painting to some pieces and given them as gifts. Anyone who has taken junior high shop class could handle these projects.

Missing extremely important information
I am a clinical professor in a school of pharmacy and am admittedly biased toward traditional "western" medicine. However, any objective person would have to agree that there are major "gaps" in the information this book provides. In the section on St. John's wort, this book states that there are no known contraindications or drug interactions with St. John's wort. There are in fact serious drug interactions with this product, including anti-rejection drugs (resulting in at least one case of organ rejection in a renal transplant patient) and potentially fatal interactions with other anti-depressants (most importantly MAOIs). This book has extensive information on historical use of herbs, pharmacology and uses... but lacks important safety information. No clinician should use this book as his/her sole source of information on herbal products.

A reference book no professional herbalist can be without
As an avid reader (and writer) of books on herbal medicine, I have to say that Blumenthal, Goldberg, and Brinckmann's Herbal Medicine is simply the most authoritative reference for the use of Western herbs on the market today. Herbal Medicine--Expanded Commission E Monographs augments the "gold standard" of scientifically oriented herbal therapy, the Commission E Monographs, with histories, in-depth and comprehensive discussions of scientific research, color photos, and practical recommendations for the use of herbs in therapy, some of which are to be found in no other book. While the tone of the book is academic and the scientific complexity of the subject matter may scare away some potential readers, anyone who uses any of the herbs most commonly available in the USA today can profit by referring to this book.

A core reference for traditional and alternative medicine.
Herbal Medicine: Expanded Commission E Monographs is an alphabetically presented dictionary of herbal plants and their known medicinal properties. Illustrated in color throughout, each herb is provided with its basic descriptive information including both popular and botanical name, and it's own bibliography for those seeking further and even more detailed information on medical applications. Herbal Medicine is a core volume for any serious personal or professional, mainstream or alternative, medical resource collection.

Review of "The Junk" by Melvin Burgess
In my opinion, Junk isn't as good as other books. It is a book, written for young people and about the life of young people. But you always know, what will happen next. We read this book in school, and it was very interesting, but the suspense is only in the first ten chapters. If you have nothing to do, you can read it, but there are more better books to read.

Jan-Oliver Ohloff

The best HY book.
I can't say enough about this book. The book is suprisingly easy to read, and uncovers insights from some of the most prominent names in HY research. A must for HY analysts, MBAs, and CFOs.

The Best Guide Book to High Yield Bonds Ever
I have had the privilege of reading the galley proofs of this book and find it to be THE definitive word on High Yield Investing. This book develops the blueprint for how to navigate, understand, and analyze High Yield Bonds. A must for MBA students, a requirement for anyone in the field already, and a vital tool for investors.

The book's three authors (The George Washington University Business School, Georgetown Business School, and 20+ years High Yield Experience) have used their knowledge and connections to get the best information available

Record Broken
This is an okay book. It's mostly the story about how Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa break Babe Ruth's and Roger Maris' record. They hit more than 62 homeruns, nobody has been able to do that, but Mark and Sammy have. Mark McGwire hit 70 homers! Sammy Sosa hit 66 homers! I would reccommend this book for 5th graders and up.

Best Heroes
Dear reader,
This book is about Mark Macgwire and Sammy Sosa.
I like this book because it gives you lots of information you want to know about these heroes. If you're a fan of the Chicago Cubs(Sammy) and the Cardinals(Mark)then you will like this book a lot.

This is one in Million!!!!!!!!
This book is great it not only tells you about their homerun records but their lifes too! This book has ineresting facts. If you are still interested about the homerun race you should read this book.

It's worth well over a buck.
But that, amazingly enough, is all it costs. I don't know how Dover does it, but I'm glad they do.

This probably should really get 3 1/2 stars; it's better than a "three", but I can't quite bring myself to give it four.

There are eight short pieces by Twain; there's "The Notorious Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County", doubtless the most famous story here, and "Journalism in Tennessee", a marvellous exaggeration of cutthroat frontier journalism that is, as so much of Twain's work is, reminiscent of Dickens. Then there's "About Barbers", which starts as a commentary on what we now call Murphy's Law, and then moves on to complain of barbers who are intent on cutting the customer's hair the way THEY want it, and to blazes with what the customer wants -- a complaint that seems still relevant even today. Then follows another story with a point unaffected by the passage of time: "A Literary Nightmare", a complaint about advertising jingles that cannot be driven out of the brain with an icepick. Then we have "The Stolen White Elephant", in which Twain directs his satire at the deductive powers of would-be Sherlock Holmeses, and a self-deprecatory tale of his own foolishness during the Civil War ("The Private History of a Campaign That Failed"). Next up is my personal favorite, "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offences", in which he gives elaborate reasons, in great detail, why he disagrees with the common wisdom that James Fenimore Cooper is a great writer (or, for that matter, can write at all.) (Perhaps I should find "Pathfinder" and "Deerslayer" on the book list here, and transcribe his comments.) And he closes with "How To Tell A Story", in which he gives advice that seems to me to be good advice for would-be stand-up comics.

The humor in some of these stories is a bit unsubtle, but certainly if you are fond of Twain, and haven't all of these stories in some other collection, it's worth the price of admission for even the least of them.

It's worth a buck...
This is a good short book for an hour or two plane, bus or train ride. It's not too difficult to read and pretty amusing. You'll read it with a smile on your face and the time will go back quickly.

I mean, hey, it's a dollar. God bless Dover Thrifts.

Made me laugh out loud!
"Humorous Stories and Sketches," be Mark Twain, brings together 8 comic gems by this giant of American literature. At around 80 pages this Dover edition may be small in size, but it's big in laughs and wit.

The 8 pieces are "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," "Journalism in Tennessee," "About Barbers," "A Literary Nightmare," "The Stolen White Elephant," "The Private History of a Campaign that Failed," "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses," and "How to Tell a Story." Twain satirizes gamblers, journalists, police detectives, international diplomacy, the military, and other things.

Particularly effective is the Civil War narrative "The Private History"; it's funny and bitingly satirical, but also surprisingly poignant as Twain reflects on the brutality of war. For laugh-out-loud funny, however, the elephant story is my favorite. A perfect book both for literature courses or just for individual pleasure reading.

Useful Workbook/Tutorial
We used this book as a tutorial for my graduate FEA class. It worked well as a tutorial describing the basic functions of Ideas (6.0 is what my version was) and how to construct models, deal with parts, and construct results. That is all it is, however, and it is not a reference book. As a guide, its very good at getting you started, but after that, you will need to go somewhere else for information.

Start on the right foot!
This book got me started with i-deas and it did its job well. The book covers the essential topics for all the tasks you may want to perform with i-deas. If focuses on the right way to work, which ensures succesfull analysis and actually saves modelling time. The exercises are quite simple so any in-depth study of a particular command is out of the reach of this book. What this book does best is getting you started with i-deas, by showing you the software's potential and teaching you to do things right from the get go.

BEST CAD TUTORIAL EVER!
In my 20 years of experience using instructional materials for computer-aided design, I've never seen anything as good as this! This wonderful book takes an excellent approach to showing the most important and fundamental operations in a really premier software tool. Starting out with solid modeling basics, and progressing upward to advanced downstream applications, the author takes a thorough and finely-detailed look at not only the functionality, but also the strategic foundations of what the student is doing. This book makes all the other CAD tutorials I've used with AutoCAD and Pro-E seem underdeveloped. Bravo, and I'm looking forward to the Version 8 guide with great pleasure!
