More Content than Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul!
William Gordon did a fabulous job compiling this gem of a collection. This is a "must" for any writer for both inspiration and information. I reach for it often in my struggle to write my second book. I appreciate the varied resources from all kinds of backgrounds (and different ages), but most of all, they are writers who have gone down the same path as I.

Bet you can¿t read just one
Writers love words and Bill Gordon loves writers. Hehascompiledover 170 pages of categorized quotations from more than 600authors. This book is recommended to all writers, not just for yourown enjoyment but as a resource. When it is not on your nightstand, it will be within easy reach of your desk, next to your dictionary.

The Random Walk and Beyond: An Inside Guide to the Stock Market

Great book! Publisher should reprint.
I first found this book at my local library and found it to be one of the best books on investments that I'd read. Since then I've tried to find it for sale here and elsewhere, but have not been able to locate a copy. I hope the publisher will reprint this book someday (even better if they'd update and print a 2nd edition) before I steal the one from the library (I'm joking; but I would like to have a copy of the book).

Best book I've read on investing
The SEC should make this required reading for anyone who wants to invest in the stock market. Johnson clarifies what is important and what is not in investing. Even after he shows you how you CAN beat the market, he makes you think about whether you really NEED to beat the market. Much more meaningful than Lynch's pablum.

Sweet Action!...
Holy Crap![.] This book is totally sweet![.] I may not be an expert in Mayan junk but I was keenly interested in this subject and this book delivered. In addition I had to write this paper about Classic Mayan Grammar in this class I was taking and this book saved my bacon. Thanks Michael D. Coe, I love you man...

The Best Book for Novice Epigraphers
I recently took a Maya Glyph class and was getting destroyed trying to follow the teacher. I had absolutely no idea what was going on. When I got this book things started to make sense. (Unfortunately, I bought it too late in the semester to help my grade any.) Coe presents glyphs and the accompanying grammar in a concise clear manner that even those with no prior experience in any related subject can understand. The Maya Lexicon is also a helpful tool for tyros like me who are just beginning to study this fascinating writing system. While it is true that these examples are stylized and not from actually monuments, for the beginner this is much easier to follow. In addition, the accompanying text is well written and an enjoyable read.

great find!
Came across this book in a used bookstore and it's terrific. Funny, witty, homespun. And that MacIntyre guy on the cover is one hot babe. Right up there with Maxim magazine as a professional single woman's guilty pleasure. Marky-Mark, you can cook my meal anytime.

wonderfully witty
MacIntyre's work is a gem, not only for its wit and bon vivance, but for some truly good eats. All guys should own this book and all women should buy their guy this book.

Regulation of Securities: SEC Compliance and Practice
Published in Hardcover by Aspen Publishers, Inc. (December, 2001)
Author: Steven Mark Levy
Amazon base price: $175.00
Used price: $138.74

Useful addition for the corporate governance library
Regulation of Securities: SEC Compliance and Practice is a useful handbook on securities compliance for public companies. The Second Edition adds a new chapter on going private transactions, and seems to expand and update the previous material fairly extensively.

The book is not an academic treatise. There are no lengthy footnotes, and no theoretical discussions about what the securities laws might be or should be. Rather, the book answers real-world questions in a straightforward manner, gives contextual background, provides illustrative examples, and points you to the most relevant primary sources if further information is required.

There are 12 chapters:

1. Introduction to securities regulation (including a section on EDGAR)

2. Periodic reporting under Sections 13(a) and 15(d)

3. Reporting of beneficial ownership under Sections 13(d) and 13(g)

4. Insider reporting under Section 16(a)

5. Short-swing trading and exemptions under Section 16(b)

6. Tender offer disclosure requirements

7. Proxy solicitations under Section 14(a)

8. Securities fraud under Rule 10b-5

9. Use of electronic media

10. Selling restricted and control securities under Rule 144

11. Private resales to institutional investors under Rule 144A

12. Going private transactions under Rule 13e-3.

This is a good book to consider for any corporate governance library.

Authoritative, Well-Written Guide
I would give this book high marks as a thorough but very readable guide to complying with SEC rules and regulations on a day-to-day basis for public corporations, corporate insiders and their counsel.
I actually like the question and answer format, which makes it fairly easy to find the exact information you are looking for. The index and tables are also well done. The other nice feature is that the book not only gives the rules and how to comply with them (for example, periodic reporting, Rule 144, short-swing profits, insider trading, etc.) but also the rationale behind the rules and historical background.
Overall, a good investment and a five-star rating.

Poet's Heart
At the heart of this great book is the heart of a pure poet. Marks writes with respect for his work and subject, bravely stepping out of the way of his words so they can stand on their own. Unlike most young poets, Marks writes with humility, yet without apology: in a time when our poetry follows at the heels of our confused culture, Marks steps away to name and clarify his place in it. Renunciation is good poetry from a writer with a good heart.

don't renounce RENUNCIATION
Wow! my creative writing instructor suggested I buy this book and she knew what she was talking about. Philip Levine selected it for the National Poetry Series and, unlike so many contest winners, this one deserved the prize. Marks' book is a real accomplishment for a first book; most third books aren't this good! At the book's center is the kind of poem all poets wish they could write, the moving homage "For Keats, After Keats." And there's the long title poem, a kind of spiritual meditation which contains subtle echoes of George Herbert. These poems are resonant, dense, formally adept, and full of exploding passions. Get this book!

Reopening the Word: Reading Mark As Theology in the Context of Early Judaism
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (December, 2002)
Author: Marie Noonan Sabin
Amazon base price: $49.95

Professor of Jesus and Culture, Emory University
I found both new to me and completely convincing:
1. The establishment of the gospel's genre as midrash
2. The establishment of the true ending of the gospel and the right translation for the witnesses' awe. (I'm also glad to have the snakehandler's text exercised).
3. The immersion of the evangelist in the tradition of Wisdom.
4. The role of the women as the wise.
5. The interrelation of the sower parables and also their interrelation to the mustard seed parable. (One example of many such effective expositions).
.

Professor of Biblical Studies, Cornell University
The doyen of New Testament scholars of the past five decades, the late W.D. Davies of Duke University, said of Sabin's book that, "in a complicated field, the author writes in an admirably lucid, uncluttered style and draws upon the vast pertinent sources. The Gospel of Mark is one of the most scrutinized of all the Gospels. Dr. Sabin recognizes that it has been treated theologically, literarily, liturgically, and cathechetically; but she is innovative in suggesting a fresh approach to that Gospel.... After a very illuminating chapter in which she sets forth the meaning of the term Midrash, she examines Mark as a midrashic document. To show how such a midrashic approach leads to new insights, she juxtaposes her midrashic exegesis of Mark with one of the early Church Fathers and that of a contemporary exegete.... The result is a presentation of Mark which is often provocative and enriching: it may prove to be seminal."
I align myself with Davies' judgment and would add that her aim when countering longstanding standard approaches to the interpretation of Mark proves most successful. Time and again she produces novel insights and her criticism of major scholars in the field is both sophisticated and persuasive.

Reptiles and Amphibians

a useful book
I've the same book but a french one, it is the most useful book a reptiles' lover must have. It is simple to read, to understand. There's a good introduction to reptiles classifications (which is not obvious for begginers), the "identity card" for each animal is well conceived.
A good book to bring for travelling.

One great book.
Like all the books in this series "Reptiles and Amphibians" gives a species by species look at a huge variety of creatures. From Chameleons to Cobras this book has a great selection. There are not many field guides out there with such fantastic and detailed photos so I suggest it for anyone who loves the to some "unlovable" slimy or scaly creatures of our world.

very very good. Very good for class. Thorough information. Useful.

Reader-friendly book with incredible on-line support.
A book that helps students make sense of research methods. The book uses clear examples, summary tables, end-of-chapter glossaries that define key terms and explain the relationships between terms, and a very simple writing style. In addition, students and professors can access free computerized tutorials as well as web pages for each chapter by going to the book's home page at http://spsp.clarion.edu/RDE3/Start/RDE3start.html

Beautiful pictures.
Drawings and pictures in this book are awesome. This book covers the history of robotics from ancient time till 1980's. Some of the future stories in this book have come to real already. Very enjoyable for all robotics fans.

Very fun to read.
This book was very fun to read. Plenty of nice pictures and figures. This book will give you an overview of the history of anthrobotics until the mid 90s. After this book was published anthrobotics progressed dramatically, and some of the dream stories in the last chapter became real.
