The Charm of the Mississippi
Classic Twain satirical humor, it idealizes a time lost without crossing over into the cliche. What it lacks in a cohesive plot, it makes up for in the light and quick reading nature of its fairly independent and anecdotal chapters. Its not Huck Finn, but Life on the Mississsippi is a most gratifying read that inspires readers both to travel some great water and to laugh out loud in manner that all-to-aware-of-itself modern humorous prose cannot achieve.

Mark Twain's Family
This book is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. Mary Lawton did an excellent job of interviewing a marvelous woman who was nearing the end of her life. It is a great tribute not only to the Clemen's family, but to great characters, good morals, and a family-centered life.

A good read
Once I got into this one, it was hard to put it down. An exciting space adventure with well-developed characters and plot. If you enjoy science fiction or Christian fiction, I highly recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

The story of Lisa Leslie up to the start of her pro career
Lisa Leslie always reminds me of Bill Walton, since she thrived at USC in the shadow of Cheryl Miller the way Walton succeeded at UCLA following in the footsteps of Lew Alcindor (whatever happened to him?). This juvenile biography of the other star center in Los Angeles to play professional basketball in a yellow and purple uniform focuses on Leslie's life as well as her basketball career and is illustrated with color photographs. One of the most interesting stories in this book is that of Leslie's last high school game. It was a tradition at her school to let the top senior try and break the school scoring record at the end of the year. Leslie scored 49 points in the first quarter, 52 in the second and was only five points away from breaking Cheryl Miller's national high school record. What happened next is rather controversial and will certainly give young readers food for thought. Chapters are also devoted to her college years, the summer she sent playing for the U.S. Olympic team, and the beginning of her professional career. Unfortunately "Lisa Leslie: Queen of the Court" was published during that first season, so it can only hint at what we know: that Lisa Leslie is one of the five best women's basketball players in the world. Other Sports Stars biographies look at athletes from Troy Aikman to Mo Vaughn, with Steffi Graff and Reggie Miller thrown into the mix.

A Little History of Australia
Published in Hardcover by Melbourne University Press (November, 1997)
Authors: Mark Peel and Andrew Weldon

Brilliant
This book is literally a little history of Australia. To write the history of Australia in such short length necessarily means compromises in many areas. But the author has done the job well, albeit in the process he has to gloss over certain issues and events. But the way it is written draws the reader into wanting to find out more about Australia's history.

This, I find, is the real success of the book, in that it is able to make the reader that much interested in searching for other more comprehensive histories of Australia to further understand the complex and tumultous history of that vast continent. It leaves readers with a hunger for more. The content is brief but concise, and very well put across.

What more can one ask of of such a little book that is so big on content and style?

From my friend's mouth!
I have not read this yet but my friends have and they don't have a computer so I am filling it in ofr them. MY friends loved it. They thought it was a great book that really touched the hearts of their friendships. It was said in a conversation that it really made them realize what great friends actually they all had in eachother. It is now my turn to read it next and from what they have said I cannot wait. I know it will be as good as they have said.

Require for liturgical ministers and RCIA leaders
Each chapter in this book is divided into sections: ecclesial documents, theology, praxis and conclusions. Chapters cover: church building, altar, ambo, presidential chair, baptistry, tabernacle, candles, vestments, oils, and confessional.

While this may sound like dull reading, Boyer's use of the dedication rites to establish the symbolism surrounding the liturgical environment "things", make this an interesting and useful read.

I especially recommend it for liturgical ministers, religious education leaders and RCIA leaders i.e. for those called upon to interpret the symbols by their actions or explain the symbols to others

A very good guide
I was traveling in Corsica summer 2001. I had bought this guide and the Insight guide about Corsica. Together they was a very good match.

LP's book have a good diving and walking section. The walking section covers the famous GR20 route in particular. The diving section contains a lot about the diving possibilities and where the best dives are.

There are a lot of small villages in Corsica. Many of them is not mentioned in LP. So don't forget to explore.

Great Information, a Little Incomplete
we bought this book at pictured rocks national lakeshore halfway through a 17 day adventure visiting all of the great lakes and i wished we had found it sooner. it was helpful with its details and little bits of trivia and information. for example we were not surprised to see the horrible cooling towers adjacent to indiana dunes nat'l lakeshore and it helped us understand the different mindset of the "yoopers" in michigan. i was disappointed that it did not contain more info on the canadian side of the great lakes and it made no mention of lake ontario and new york (our starting point), which seemed to short change the title of great lakes. (afterall, how could it miss one?) if you're aware of this and want some great info on a great region...i defnietly recommend it!

Another winner
The third edition of this guide to Australia's smallest mainland state shows a definite shift towards, if not the high-end traveller, at least the mid-end traveller with expanded listing of lodging and eating establishments to include more expensive options, especially in the section covering Melbourne. The coverage of the rest of the state is as exhaustive as in previous editions. While Lonely Planet refuses (or does not have the staff) to update the printed versions of their guides more than once every two or three years.

The only real criticism I have of this guide is that the author(s) clearly have animus against the current Victorian government. While everyone is entitled to political opinions, they are out of place in a guidebook, particularly in a series which includes guides to such places as Burma.
