Falsehood in Wartime: Propaganda Lies of the First World War
Published in Paperback by Inst for Historical Review (December, 1991)

Amazon base price: $6.95

The book is good, but beware the publisher.
This is an interesting little book, originally written in the 1920's by an English Member of Parliament about the propoganda lies that were rampant during World War I. Unfortunately, there is also a rather frightening introduction from the current publisher, which is one of those holocaust denial organizations, who seem to follow the twisted logic that if one atrocity story is a lie, they all are. Ignore it. The atrocity stories from World War I were investigated and found to be lies. The atrocity stories from World War II were investigated and found to be true, as evidenced by millions of witnesses, survivors, etc.

The fiftieth gate : a journey through memory

The Fiftieth Gate
The Fiftieth Gate is a 'journey into memory' integrating the author's parent's stories of the Holocaust and their survival with historical fact. He exchanges their stories for historical facts of the Holocaust, discovering that his mother is the lone survivor from her village.

Baker searches to find out the events of his own background in order to find his own identity and family background. A totally honest and thought provoking book which allows its reader to wake up and realise the disasters of human hatred in Hitler's persecution of Jews. Very upfront and in your face.

Well made and very inspirational
I stumbled upon this audiobook when I was going through a bin of [money] tapes at a local discount store, most of which were that cheap for good reason. Being a "motivational" tape I was immediately skeptical, as I usually am with self-help tapes. But having already picked through everything and deciding that death was preferable to listening to OJ Simpson talk about the "real killer" or other celebrities turned activists turned egomaniacs patting themselves on the back for "caring", I took the chance and bought it. I was expecting a lot of mindless sloganeering designed to hype up your emotions and turn off your brain, but I was pleasantly surprised that this tape is in fact very constructive as well as inspiring. Jenner comes off extremely articulate and likable, describing his aimless beginnings as a student content with mediocrity, to suddenly grasping hold of a lofty goal and pursuing it to the point of obsession. Then to achieve it only to once again slowing descend back in to obscurity, mediocrity and aimlessness, until he finally (with a little help from true love) grabbed hold of his life again and now pursues it with as much success and passion as he pursued the Olympic gold. He talks a lot of sense and his experiences are easy to relate to, helping you focus on what really holds one back from taking chances and pursuing success. I've got a lot of audiobooks, probably close to two dozen, but this is one of maybe three tapes that I'll throw in my car stereo as I go about my business and still enjoy listening to it. Good work Bruce!

Fire in the Wind is a Good Book
This book is about Meg and her backwards cousin Orin. Meg always gets in fights when she tries to stick up for Orin and her brother Paul. When a fire burns most of Prescott Falls, Maine (Meg's home town) Orin saves Meg and her brother. Meg and her brother are the only ones who know that Orin set a backfire. When Meg finds out the backfire was probably the thing that saved their barn she realizes that she was wrong when she blamed Orin for setting the fire.

I read this book for a book response project and I think you should read it too.

A Must Have For Beginning Psychotherapists
As a novice psychotherapist/psychiatry resident, I found this title to be an invaluable part of my training. Dr. Console provides us with transcripts of his "first encounters" with patients and then discusses what is happening (on a psychodynamic level) in each session. In a way, the book is a transcript within a transcript -- a dialogue between Dr. Console and his residents discussing videotapes of the sessions themselves (also transcribed for the reader). The importance of the initial interview becomes evident while reading this text. It is amazing to see how much information can be learned by observing both the explicit and implicit content of a relatively brief meeting between doctor and patient. I highly recommend this book to all psychiatrists and psychotherapists especially to those who are just starting out and are in the process of fine-tuning their interview style.

Five Roads to Walleye : Tips and Techniques for Walleye Angl
Five Roads is a good basic walleye fishing book. If you read Romanarck's online articles, you will find most of the same information in the book. It is easy to read, yet informative, and includes gear selection for each technique. The book is easy enough for my eight year old to read.

Fixed Income and Interest Rate Derivative Analysis
Published in Hardcover by Butterworth-Heinemann (October, 1998)
Author: Mark Britten-Jones
Amazon base price: $69.99
Average review score:

Good book for intermediate level
The book, though terse and short, is brilliant for a quick tour through the fixed income aspects of bonds, swaps and derivative instruments.

I would have liked more detail on FRNs and Swaps with some practical examples of real FRNs with Interest swaps. An area which many books fail to address. Also the book should have put more emphasis on the mark-to-market of these instruments.

Overall, a good supplemental book.

Not Just For Twain Fans
Mark Twain took a trip around the world in a Steamship and came back with a collection of his observations. FOLLOWING THE EQUATOR is a must for Romantics, idealists, adventurers, and especialy Parrotheads. Twain paid attention to details and allows us to experiance that time period around the globe. Through Twain's eyes and mind you will see the various cultures, governments and exotic adventures that he comes accross. For those lovers of Mark Twain's works, you will not be dissapointed. He is hilarious, oppinionated and very entertaining. Just like a long journey, the book has a few slow spots. Over all, you won't won't to put it down. FOLLOWING THE EQUATOR will leave you entertained with a wealth of thoughts on history, philosophy, sociology and just good old adventure.
