Nice progs on cd, but the book needs improvement
This book is allright if you have a basic understanding of the C++ language. If not, better take your hands off. Explanations are sometimes a little confusing. Instead of teaching us application of the techniques, he basically puts extracts of programs in there and discusses them shortly. Visual J++ and the two books in HTML on the CD are nice addons though

This Book Is Okay
This book is Okay... A lot I've tried to write with it didn't work and it didn't seem to help very much. If you're looking for a good BEGINNING java book, this isn't for you. Try getting another book like Que's Using Java. I think that would be good. I would rate this book a 5 for average, it's the fourth Java book I have.

Confusing sequence and typos characterize this book :-(
Granted; XSLT and XPATH in particular aren't easy to cope with, but I did never find the "key" to the sequence of material in this book. Especially XPATH must be covered better, since XPATH are so central in XSLT.

When you also find typos, such as not well-formed XML in the examples, you waste time to figure out if the XML itself is correct or not.

In short, I didn't like this book.

An informative and accessible overview
Michael Floyd's Special Edition Using XSLT starts with an informative and accessible overview clearly explaining how XSLT fits into the bigger picture of the Extensible Stylesheet Language, and the differences between XSLT and XSL-FO. Special Edition Using XSLT then demonstrates practical examples of XSL transformations from XML to a variety of other useful formats including HTML, PDF, SVG and others. Later chapters discuss developer techniques for implementing XSLT within dynamic web environments including ASP and JSP. Flyod also covers debugging techniques and how XSLT relates to .NET. Highly recommended for beginning to intermediate level users, Special Edition Using XSLT then concludes with a useful reference section including detailed coverage of XSLT, XPath and XSL-FO. 480 pages.

Try "Starting Over" And Buy A Different Book
This book was a total waste of money. It was written by a lawyer who admits to not being an expert on careers. "Let me say right up front: I'm not a career counselor" (page 2). If you are miserable in your current career, as am I, then do not expect any help or guidance with this book. It was vague and useless.

I was very taken by this review.
I enjoyed scanning the review. I would be interested in seeing more similar publications to the one that I just reviewed.

Steal My Heart
Published in Paperback by Van Neste Books (December, 1900)
Author: Mark Brazaitis
Amazon base price: $18.00
Used price: $4.99
Average review score:

Not up to my expectations.
Hmm, well, I wouldn't say that I hated this book, but this book contained nothing to keep my enthusiasm up to finish it. In fact, I couldn't finish the book. It was just so boring, and the words didn't flow and neither did the plot. The characters were totally dispicable. Well, maybe not totally, but they just didn't have heart and fire. I wouldn't recommend this book at all.

Van Neste Books pub. shares description of novel and reviews
What's a New York thief doing in Guatemala?

Practicing his craft.

The Manhattan pickpocket Carlton James has come to Guatemala to reform. Alas, he can't help himself: He soon begins to steal the wallets, purses, cameras and other valuables of the international tourists who visit Panajachel, a beautiful lakeside town under volcanoes. One night, he is caught in the act -- by his maid, Rosario, whose history is as murky and tragic as her country's. Initially wary of Rosario, Carlton soon finds himself inexplicably drawn to her.

Meanwhile, to catch the thief who threatens local tourism, the police department calls in Ramiro Caal, a detective who proved entirely too successful in solving his last case (evidence in a murder pointed to a high-ranking American official). Retired to his farm, Ramiro has no choice but to accept his latest assignment, and is assisted by his American friend, Ed Shell, a Peace Corps volunteer.

In a country where justice is a relative term -- where stealing also applies to indigenous culture and language -- neither Ramiro nor Ed feels comfortable with the task at hand.

STEAL MY HEART is written with the same insight into Guatemalan culture as Brazaitis' highly acclaimed short story collection, THE RIVER OF LOST VOICES. STEAL MY HEART is both a literary mystery and a quirky, endearing love story.

And Carlton James is unlike any American expatriate you've ever seen.

KIRKUS REVIEWS (9/1/00): "Delightful debut novel about American innocents abroad . . . and the Guatemalans whose lives they inevitably change. . . . A gently assured, low-key pastoral of lost souls who find, in banal evil and thwarted altruism, the inspiration for human kindness."

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY (9/18/00): ". . . a vividly drawn tragicomedy. . . . The intense finale showcases Brazaitis' keen prose style and ends this Guatemalan love adventure on a luminous, dramatic note."

AMERICAN BOOK REVIEW (Nov./Dec. 2000): "Mark Brazaitis' STEAL MY HEART, a first novel set in Guatemala, is a good example of the [expatriate] genre.

MARIE CLAIRE (Nov. 2000): "A jaded Manhattan pickpocket moves to Guatemala in search of fresher pastures in Mark Brazaitis' romantic debut novel, STEAL MY HEART." (MARIE CLAIRE recommends/Read It)

Complaint
I placed this order on January 2, 2003, and as of this date, March 26, 2003, have not received the book. I have contacted the seller numerous times by e-mail and after saying that he had shipped it but would not give me the date or method of shipment, he said he would ship it again. I ordered 3 items for Destinos and received one, one was out of stock (for which I received credit), and have not received this one. Am sorely disappointed since Destinos is a magnificent program for learning Spanish.

Essential for Courses using Destinos
Destinos is the best thing to happen to foreign language learning since the invention of the language laboratory.

The handbook will greatly improve a student's ability to retain and utilize the Spanish he/she learns in the video series. There are many exercises relating to each episode and the Mas Alla del episodio readings add extra information to the story which is not in the videos themselves.

I teach Spanish at community college and have used the manual and videos for a number of years with excellent results.

Too Convoluted and Boring.
One thing you can say about the Superman books over the last several years is that the stories are either too difficult to follow or they are medicore at best. Which desribes this collection of stories for his poor dialoge, lack of character development, and "a sense of rushing the story along", and in the end, it is a waste of both your time and the money you paied buying the book in the first place.

Very Enjoyable
Full spectrum of stories are presented here. Some fun, some touching, some exciting. I highly recommend it.

Poorly written
I think if this author maybe had a proofreader to go over the work before it was published, it wouldn't be so aggravating to read it. Misspellings and bad grammar abound...the most unprofessional book I have ever read for that reason. On a good note, the episode synopses were nice to have, but you can get a lot of this info on the web nowadays anyway.

SORRY BRIAN - IF YOU HAD A MIND ABLE TO FUNCTION...
... You would see that however poorly writen, this book is a GEM in a difficult area of collection. Anyone who has this books needs to be thrilled at its rarity, and taken by its clarity. This IS the capstone of my Twin Peaks collection. A great, rare find. Just because one pseudo-fan cannot find it does not mean it is not worth its weight in gold. You remind me today of a small mexican chihuahua.

How to pick up women
I don't think this book provides adequate advice, and may actually be dangerous to the average fella trying to pick up women. Here's some advice. remember, conditioning is important, go heavy on the squats and leg lifts to strengthen your lower back and thighs. I try hit the gym three times a week. Remember, always vary your workout routine with the size of the woman you are going to be picking up. And always stretch before and after you pick up a woman, they're heavier than they look sometimes. And fer christ sakes, lift with your legs not your back!

For anyone seeking female companionship
In The Ugly Man's Guide To Picking Up Women (And Keeping Them), author Mark Patton has written an insightful, effective, "how to" book on creating a relationship with a woman by improving a fellow's mating potential through improving one's personality, physical appearance, hold an engaging conversation, effective places to take a date, "making a move", sex tips, dealing with the "morning after", what to do about her kids and pets, gift giving, moving in together, the etiquette of breaking up, getting married, and much, much more! Written with wit, humor, experience, and expertise (Patton is (5'5 and himself "attractively challenged" but managed to woo, win and wed an attractive wive who adores him) The Ugly Man's Guide To Picking Up Women is "must" reading for anyone seeking female companionship whether its for an evening, a weekend, or a lifetime.

Correction to author bio
I'm not writing to review this book, I'm writing to correct an error in the author's bio (The "corrections" section of your website did not have a space for this, so I'm doing it here). Joe Passov is the former editor of LINKS Magazine, not the current editor. Please do not post this message, just make sure the correction is made. Thank you.

Finally!
Finally a travel guidebook that offers something other than meaningless fluff! Passov is a great storyteller who relates what's its really like to play some of the best golf courses in the eastern U.S. You'll want to clean the grass off your shoes after browsing the chapters. In addition to honest and informed opinions on the golf courses, Passov also provides an encyclopedic amount of information on resorts, restaurants, and other activities in the vicinity of the golf courses. If all guidebooks were this breezily written, entertaining, and full of hardore travel info, you'd never have a bad vacation or a disappointing round of golf. My only hope is that Passov will cover the rest of the country-- and the world-- soon so I know where to go next for a great golf vacation.

Suspect info
This book may not be what it seems, judging by the cover. The artwork attributed to M Chappell does not look like it was done by him. It looks bad.
There is another related book by the same two authors in this series where the front cover again purports to show artwork by M Chappell but the artwork is clearly by another well-known artist R Volstad.

Great Improvement on Earlier Works in this Series
This book is part of a set covering the US Army of WW II. Compared to the earlier volumes published by Osprey, it is an A compared to a D. The other volumes were superficial and suffered either from trying to cover too much or too long a period or written by authors who simply were not familiar enough with the period covered.
This one is written by a knowledgable author and is superbly illustrated by the magnificent Mike Chappell. Drawing on multitudinous sources, these three volumes will satisfy those who want to know what grandaddy looked like in the war and give a useful overview for those not needing more detailed knowledge.
As a long time specialist in the period, I learned things and recommend this highly.
