A Homeschooler's dream
Too many recipies to ever list...non-newtonian fluids?? They're in there! Honestly, there is a recipe for every craft need I could think of...and many more. The best thing is that there are some many versions of each recipes. If you don't have ingredients for one, there several versions. Don't stay home without it!

wonderful
I checked this book out of the library last month and could not believe all of the various recipes it had for so many different art activities. Page upon page of dough recipes, salt mapping, food recipes, and all the goos that a child would love. I am a preschool teacher for 4 and 5 year olds and I found this book a wonderful way to add to my daily curriculum. Child-care providers should really check this book out.

Go West, Young Toad: Selected Writings
Published in Paperback by Water Row Press (01 December, 1998)
Authors: Gerald Locklin and Mark Weber
Amazon base price: $14.95

Collection of A Master
Gerald Locklin's written words never fail to provide humor and insight in the reader's life. His versatility is unique and covers years of careful observation tempered with a tongue-in-cheek attitude. His short stories cover a wide range of humorous occurrences, incidents which could be imaginary colorings, or real life stories, but each will bring a tiny gleam to the reader's imagination and eye, as they remember similar happenings in their own lives. Locklin has just the right touch, has his finger on the pulse of reality. Mark Weber did an excellent editorial job on the compiling of this long list of selected writings by Gerald Locklin. As a poetry editor and the publisher of JVC BOOKS, I personally know both of these very talented men and I am continually astonished by the still over-flowing out-pouring efforts of both. If you have never read Gerald Locklin's work, this is a prime book for you for it encapsulates both his poetry and his short story writing abilities.

Go West, Young Toad: Selected Writings
Gerry Locklin is one of the most sensitively brilliant writers I've ever read and this book gives a comprehensive review of his life's work up to publication. He's funny and sad and taps into the true poetic essenc,. A writer that writes the truth of life and all it's quirky out takes. I've read that his poems were written for people that don't read poetry, this exemplifies his universality but with that even his work is not trite or badly commonplace, but rather insightful and pretty rock and roll in his own way. Bukowski endorsed him before he died to me that's a pretty heavy reason to read Gerry. Locklin is amazing as is this book. And if you hate Bukowski (as some out there do), don't pass Locklin or this his only worthwhile compilation other than the Firebird poems.

Goal Set Your Way to Achieving Your Dreams: A Practical Guide to Goal Setting

What a great book!
I had read similar books about topics like goal setting, etc. in the past without much success in actually using the techniques described by the authors. What makes this book different, and what has made such a change in my life, is that the author gives practical, everyday, workable advice on how to set goals and achieve them. The day I finished reading this book I sat down to start writing my own goals, like the author suggests. I have seen noticable improvement in my life because of this book and I can't stress enough how much of a positive change this book and the strategies in it have taught me. Goal Set Your Way to Achieving Your Dreams gave me the road map that I needed to follow to start making changes. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make a better life for themselves.

Great book on goal setting
I really enjoyed this book because I had always set goals for myself and tried New Year's Resolutions but I never stuck with them. This book takes the reader step by step through the goal setting process. As the author points out, most other books mention that setting goals is very important, but never tell you how to do it. This book was short and to the point. There was no fluff or fillers. The authors writes about common excuses for why people don't set or stick with goals and ten reasons why goal setting fails for most people. I saw myself in several of those reasons. The author developed a system on goal setting, so if you just follow the book, you can't help but set a goal. The book also has several sample goals, so you can see how the finished product would look. I highly recommend this book if you are serious about setting goals. When I finished the book, I gave it right to my wife and we sat down that Saturday night to start setting and achieving goals for our life.

Can there be a dialogue between Science and Theology?
The inter-disciplinary dialogue of Sciences and Theology constitutes Worhting's thesis. There is a world of stuff out there that most of us (Christians) don't even bother in questioning or reading about. Today, Science and Theology are definitely undergoing a major shift. They are starting to learn from each other concepts, ideas, beliefs, understandings, etc. This is a good book for the lay person that does not see any good in sciences, or for the scientist that does not see the point in theology, or even for the person that (like me) is seeking to study both (sciences and theology) at the same time!

My eyes where bigger than my stomach
Worthing brings together so much information, so many world views, and so many fields of inquiry that I felt I must have this book. I know it will be a reference work I will go back to time and time again. I have an evangelical Christian background, and I found my belief in the Bible as sacred writing honored. However, I found my assumptions about God and His Word constantly challenged by the many perspectives Worthing brought to mind. God, Creation, and Contemporary Physics is not an easy read (at least not for me!), but every page was worthy reading.

a wonderful commentary
This is a fantastic commentary. I'm not usually the motivated type who takes the time to review a book but, I've so enjoyed Mr. Edwards work that I wanted to share my sentiments. Anyone wanting to swim into the deeper waters of Mark's Gospel will enjoy the journey. "Here's to an ever increasing faith!"

One of the best
I was surprised to see this commentary hasn't been reviewed, since it is of such high quality. I suspect it is because Edwards, unlike Carson or Blomberg or Bock, isn't a well-known scholarly name. Nevertheless, I rate this commentary "up there" with my favorite NT commentaries: Carson on John, Fee on I Corinthians, O'Brien on Ephesians. If you read and appreciated any of those, you will not be disappointed by this commentary.

Changed My Life
This audio book changed my life. I have always wanted to read and study Scripture, but, like a lot of people, I could never find the time. Listening to the Gospels on CD was the answer. The sound quality is great. Michael Smith does a terrific job with the narration and the background music adds to the overall message instead of detracting from it. I would highly recommend The Gospels Come to Life to anyone interested in learning more about Jesus Christ and his teachings.

Little, Green, Different
This book is definately different - each author seems to have their own voice, and from section to section there is something to gain from each. McLaughlin is very humorous in his approach, Graves is very dark and disturbing yet graceful, where Wilson seems to mellow them both with a laid back, depth like fine wine, almost romantic. I've never read this kind of poetry before and I have to say I was skeptical looking at the package -I noticed some typos the editors didn't catch and there was no table of contents, but the words speak for themselves. I hope there will be a sequel, or something further from these authors.

An excellent collection!
The Gossamer Eye is one of those books that deserves more than one reading. There is simply so much between the covers that, on any given day or mood, you can randonly turn to a page and start and be enthralled by what you find. I don't normally read poetry, but some of the lines/verses were so witty and so imaginative that I found myself smiling as I read. I can see myself turning again and again, for entertainment and inspiration, to this book.

Well Researched and Entertaining
Although many books have been written about Great Lakes shipwrecks, Thompson's book offers a new perspective by analyzing the causes of wrecks on a large scale. One can see the various factors that made the Lakes particularly dangerous to navigators throughout their history. Thompson's research is equally impressive. Unlike many other books of the genre, Thompson has actually consulted, in most cases, primary archival sources, in developing his wreck accounts, rather than simply rehashing the work of other authors. Thompson's presentation avoids dry regurgitation of statistics and details through an accessible and entertaining writing style that makes the book a better read than similar books on the subject. Although the book is not comprehensive and contains a few forgiveable historical errors, it remains one of the best books on Great Lakes shipwrecks to come out in recent years.

Must have
If you are a maritime enthusiast, Great Lakes visitor, or a history buff then this book is a must own. The pictorials are excellent and each are followed by outstanding descriptions. This book outlines the Great Lakes shipwrecks and how unforgiving these lakes can be.

Great God Pan : Salt Desert Tales

Salt Desert Tales of Genius
"Great God Pan - Salt Desert Tales" sandblasts off layers of smog and grime that have been clotting up the West for the past hundred years. This is a history that has been abandoned or neglected, and when one delves into these tales a clear appreciation of this idiosyncratic region takes hold. These stories are not mere anecdotal tales, but stories with unlikely heroes, impossible eccentrics, and visionary madmen. The best part is that all of this is true. The writers of this book have gone to considerable lengths to find histories of the West that step outside of the traditional homage to the individualist, Western Expansionist prototype.

Salty as a Desert in Deseret!
Salt Desert Tales is a bang-up collection of white hot adventure tales, history and culture. This time the Pan-Men have chosen the dusty burgs of Mormon Country to do their research, and friend the result is truiumphant! I read it cover to cover in one sitting. They capture the feel of the Western USA from the perspective of Western Americans. Reading the story about Nevada made me think of growing up in Yakima, Washington where high schools gyms are just as likely to have a quincinera happening, as they are a basketball game.

Now that Bob Ludlum's passed on you'll never have to look further than the Bluhm/Sundeen braintrust for highest quality, page-turnin' wild times.

Other recommendations include: Car Camping, all the back issues of Great God Pan, Cometbus, the WPA State books.. and any music by Oxes and Lightning Bolt you can find.

Insightful Book
This book is full of suspense because you care about the characters and can't figure out what's going to happen to them next.
Cleo, the main character, is an artist. But creative as she is, she is quite an unaware person. She doesn't know whether she is at fault because one daughter takes drugs and the other feels totally unloved. She senses her marriage is on the rocks but hasn't a clue as to why.
As Cleo discovers the dark side of herself, we begin to ask ourselves a few questions about our own motivations.
In contrast, her husband Adam, is an intuitive man who is a hero to the world as well as to his children. But is he truly a hero? Or is that selfishness we glimpse under his motives?
And the third person of the triangle is Gus, a Prince Charming of a man who uses his money and power to grant all Cleo's wishes, be it buying all her paintings, having her roof fixed, or bailing her daughter out of jail. He satisfies her every need, but you come to wonder if she is selling her soul to the devil.
And these real people have today's issues to deal with. The destruction of our forests and medicinal herbs for one. But the main issue is vengeance, which makes the author almost clairvoyant, for this book was written before September llth.
The book has a satisfying ending. For though it is about the dark side in all of us, it shows transcendance of hate, anger and vengeance and the reaching of unconditional love.
