This book cannot help much to develop fluent German.
After hearing this course you are able to compose very primitive German phrases only. Don't expect any fluency because the vocabulary is too basic, don't expect you can understand German speech after hearing this course. This course just gives you very rough idea what German language is. Very funny - their first mistake is located right on the 1st page - "drie" instead of "drei". So if you want to learn German - buy another course.

Conversational in Just One Week
Thanks to the fast and easy method found in Audio Fluency German,
I was speaking understandable basic German sentences within an hour of beginning the course. Please note that this is the only German course of the many I have purchased that allows the learner to form a great number of original sentences from a very small fund of words. Very intelligently organized and very easy to use.

Wie sagt Mann 'Excellent' auf Deutsch?
How do you say 'excellent' in German? You say 'Audio Fluency German'. What makes it so good? It's easy and it's fast. I especially recommend this course for timid beginners like myself who may otherwise never have learned to speak German.

BORRING & SLOW READING
I understand that we all have to earn a living, but why bore probably thousands of readers with this sappy, overly and uninspired attempt at sentimental writing? It seems obvious after reading this book that the author was just playing at readers' emotions in the pursuit of delving into our pocketbooks. The author scribbles a never ending ramble of events which have little or no relation to one another. While I respect the real life(???) tradgedies the author relates to the reader, I must say this book was for the most part, slow, daunting, uninspired/ing, and tiresome reading.

a reflection on contempory life with wit and compassion
This book, a compilation of 12 years of Marlene Marks' columns for The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles, is a warm, knowing companion. With careful attention to detail, honesty and openness, Marks shares her journey from her husband's death to the present. From her experiences dating again to how a single mom does Shabbat (a microwaved baked potato for her, four frozen fish sticks for her daughter), to coping with the holidays as a member of the sandwich generation, Marks reflects on contemporary life with wit and compassion. A pleasure to read and a lovely gift for any woman trying to cope with the pressures of work and family.

Columns I could identify with
Thi is a book of Marks's columns mostly about her everyday life. I found them columns I could identify with, and enjoyed reading her book.

Two treatise of government
I think this book is good but it lacks being able to keep my attention and I have read huge books. If it kept my attention for a little bit longer than the first page I would keep reading it.

A Classic in Every Sense
As a mystery author with my first book in initial release, I have found that reading a wide variety of works helps my writing. Locke's TWO TREASTISES is one of my favorite books of all time. Here is the book that subverted absolutism following a glorious revolution. I read it first as an undergraduate at Claremont McKenna College, and I teach it annually. Great book.

Going to the (Somewhat inconsistent) Source
Those of us living in liberal democracies owe tremendous intellectual debt to John Locke. His "Second Treatise" in particular helped lay the foundation for a political system that emphasized "life, liberty, and property." The First Treatise is interesting to skim through, though it is in the second where the Locke is most substantive. His Theory of Private Property, which could also be construed as a theory of value, is an unmistakable revolution in political thought. It is, as Locke contends, when man applies his labor to nature that he is entitled to it. Questions about environmental ethics or indegenous rights aside, this observation, made in a still heavily ecclesiastical society, is a brilliant one. Furthermore, Locke's understanding of the formation of government is based on a hypothetical "state of nature" account. Locke's arguments are intellectually pleasing, and his social-scientific models make intuitive sense. Given that, perhaps the only weakness of the work is its failure to adequately analyze such concepts as the social contract or his theory of labor-property relations. For example, Locke fails to seriously consider what we should do with states that are clearly formed by mere force. Indeed, he doesn't adequately address the possibility that such a state could justify its existence on the grounds that "better tyranny than nothing." While Locke believes that a state that doesn't respect private property cannot last for very long, history says otherwise. Of course, in retrospect it is easier to criticize Locke in these regards, but with Machiavelli before him it was not as though these ideas were not known. There are admittedly other inconsistencies, such as his view on taxation later in the book and on who "owns" the grass his serf cuts. Interestingly enough, Locke is unwilling to expound on the distinction between property garnered for the sake of personal enjoyment (possessions) and property garnered for the sake of profit. Nevertheless, the work is a passionate defense of a liberal government, and the points are persuasively argued. As long as the reader, as Locke himself urges, keeps a skeptical attitude, this work has much to offer.

Sequels aren't supposed to be this good!
Sequels are supposed to be worse than the original copy, but this book must be the exception that makes the rule. Awesome book! Please-more stories with surprise endings. This book had some very predictable stories.

A great book
I think that this book was terrific, even though there were other Chicken Soup books that I thought were better. Almost all of the stories had a moral in them and the ones in the end especially made me cry. I think that the Chicken Soup books will be great just like they are now in the years to come.

Chicken Soup for the soul is an excellent book.
A 5th Portion of Chicken Soup for the soul is an extremely excellent book because it teaches unique lessons.

An updated anthology is needed.
Though this edition is revised, a newer collection would be more practical since the advent of post-modern thinking with the likes of Pynchon, Barth, Barthelme, Gaddis, Hawkes, and Heller heading the movement.

This collection is bogged down by Breton's psychoanalytic readings in the author introductions and his grasping for authors and passages to lengthen the page count in order to have a sizable book.

Yet there are names which have long since been forgotten which, due to this collection, are sustained and might later be an aide in their reevaluation.

Highlights include: Grabbe, Allais, Baudelaire, L'Isle-Adam, Cros, Huysmans, Jarry, Rigaut.

This book is only for those who are studying the field and will be a bitter disappointment for anyone else, esp. people looking for a humor collection per se.

incredible
breton's eulogy of surrealist revolt is basically incarnated in this book, which is a collection of insane and eccentric (particularly lacenaire, murderer and poet) figures who, through absurd humor and surrealistic flights of the fantastic, cast serious (sometimes dangerous) doubts on the validity of the Reality Principle. The best in this collection is perhaps Benjamin Peret, the most uncompromising surrealist of them all. His work is completely recalcitrant to mundane reality, forcing it to become magical and, of course, surreal. Admittedly, some of these writers are difficult to penetrate, but the effort is certainly worth it. Jarry especially.

Yes
I want to vomit right now. Good.

Gorgeously dressed corpse
Strand is undoubtedly the most overrated poet in the United States. Every five years or so he puts out a slim volume that reads like a fairly good imitation of Strand, and this one is no exception, filled with the usual icy facsimiles of emotion--and featuring the embarrassing "Delirium Waltz" in which he drops, with langorous obsequiousness, the names of a number of his wellknown friends. If you're interested in Strand, read his earlier books, particularly the magnificent "Story of Our Lives."This one is a waste of fifteen dollars. An elegantly dressed corpse is still a corpse.

Quite, quite fine
Is Strand John Donne? Hardly. Is he Yeats? Alas, no. But he may be among the very best of living poets, and this has several poems worth re-reading.

I look for more from him of the caliber of "Keeping Things Whole." Until then, this volume is a good consolation.

Dally the doom
While Mark Strand is not my favorite poet, I can still see and appreciate his brilliance. The only thing about his poetry of which I can truly complain is that it does not make good reading while you are depressed. That said, if one reads and re-reads "Blizzard of One" in a more intellectual Stevens-esque mood, one must admit themself to be in the presence of a master. Strand's lines are inventive and extremely well-honed, and his work suggests the depth and complexity of a poet of the highest, or almost-highest, caliber.

Not too many people notice Strand's sense of humor, though. He read at my college in the fall of 1999 on the same night as (are you ready for this?) Donald Justice and Derek Walcott. Reading last, after Walcott read a selection from the manuscript of "Tiepolo's Hound," Strand got up and started making everyone laugh with what he read. Most of what he read was from "Blizzard of One," too. "Some Last Words" is probably the poem in this collection which best embodies that side of Strand.

I reccomend this book for anyone who loves poetry. Just be in the right mood when you read it.

Take it in moderation
The book is clear and describes a lot of interesting exercises but doesn't translate into a realistic program.

For instance, in the chapter on "Backpacking, Hiking and Snowshoeing" you are supposed to work up to a routine of 23 exercises. Since most of these are for 2-3 sets of 12+ reps, if you take six seconds per rep, this works out to 55 minutes of actual exercise time--not including any rest intervals or time to switch weights, etc. Seems like a lot of time to train for, well, walking.

A good book for choosing rehab & injury prevention exercises, but I wouldn't base a whole fitness routine on it.

John

Great book but rather technical
Love the book and it's advice but yes, it IS technical and there is alot to go through. Great for general guidelines and specific advice on particular sports and exercises. Plenty of stuff you can do at home if you don't have access to a gym. I'd recommend it to anyone in training!

Excellent Overall Guidance & Specific Training Tips
The word "comprehensive" seems very fitting for "Conditioning for Outdoor Fitness" because the volume packs in a lot of background information on physiology as well as specific training regimens for particular outdoor sports. I particularly value the icons for different sports used to identify exercises that are particularly valuable for the sport you are preparing for. The final chapters provide focused training regimens for specific sports, which are cross-referenced to the exercise descriptions found in other parts of the book. The book also provides valuable tips on functional exercises that focus on combinations of muscle groups to achieve more practical training than the muscle isolation process used in many weight training machines. All in all, this is one of the very best I've seen for sport-focused training.

Usual , General, Superficial
Having finished the book, I asked about what I learned .. nothing new. Superficial, usual and step-by-step path. I advice an excellent and strong book that is Creating Public Value : Strategic Management in Government by Moore...

Too the Point with Steps That Make Sense
As a manager of a medium size agency in a fairly large city, I've looked at a lot of these kinds of books. Too often they are fed-land oriented or full of impractical or incomplete ideas. This one wasn't and it has been very useful as we pursue a strategic reform of our management systems.

Helpful, Concise, Coherent
I've been working on rego in my federal agency for seven years. While this book had no great surprises for me, it was a useful resource to think through what we've done so far and what remains to be done.

DB2 for Windows NT - fast

Simplistic
This is a completely useless book which does nothing more than walk one through DB2's installation process and Administrative GUIs. Buy the Version 6.1 Certification Guide instead and use it with the free product documentation. You'll learn about Database Administration beyond running setup.exe and trivial use of the administrative GUI.

Install failure renders book useless
On the first install I had a network card improperly installed in the machine. A registration number came back from IBM. I uninstalled and retried the install. It worked fine until it started creating the sample files. It generated the following error: SQL8008N The product "DB2 Personal Edition" does not have a valid license key installed and the evaluation period has expired. Functions specific to this product are not enabled. The expiration may be due to Y2k. The second install was in 2000.

I like the concept, but do not have a lot of time to debug the install. It should work on Windows/95, but it didn't for me. Therefore, I can't utilize the book.

A great book!
If you are looking for a very good introduction to DB2 UDB for Windows NT, then this is the book that you are looking for!. I have bought 2 books about DB2 before this. Those books were good for details, but I must spent some time before I knew the overview of the DB2 UDB.

This book is very good in teaching you the basic elements of DB2 UDB.

not very good
This book has very little information in it. It has taken about 25 pages of useful information and combined it with some basic NT admin knowledge, some fairly useless tests and test cases and repeated itself a lot (I think I've found 5 explanations of the page file which are the same) and stretched it all out into a book. Also, it doesn't explain some things very well.

Performance Monitor or Performance Monitoring?
The book was well focused on Microsoft Performance Monitor (ie, how to configure PerfMon) and provided some good insight on how to read and determine problems with specific counters. Some trouble-shooting techniques were provided, however very weak in substance. The majority of this book was really focused on PerfMon and reading and understanding the counters, bottom line. The spelling was unusually high in errors, and a spelling checker would have done this book good. I am surprised it actually got published like this! At any rate, I still feel I got my money's worth and I feel more confident using PerfMon and understanding counter values and what sort of error you may be experiencing if you exceed the threshold of some of these values.

lots of useful tips
Very readable, lots of practical advice, and a truly fantastic number of typos. What ever happened to proofreading?
