"There are few books that adequately cover this subject. Much of what passes for 'the literature' is overblown, conspiracy-addled and fragmented. But Mark Riebling, a historian, has made a valiant effort to piece it all together in WEDGE.... The fact that he has taken great pains to avoid using anonymous sources is just one of a number of reasons why serious students of this nation's haywire-rigged counterintelligence effort should read WEDGE.... Refreshingly unlike most spy literature.... the cumulative effect of his tales is staggering." -- John Fialka, The Wall Street Journal.
"Any illusions that the two organizations simply mirror each other are thoroughly shattered. Riebling meticulously traces the continuing conflict and its consequences, which sometimes took the form of Keystone Cop episodes but more often were deadly serious." -- Houston Chronicle.
"A surprisingly fresh, coherent, well-written and persuasive analysis. Striking conclusions, a succession of colorful adventurers, and highly provocative speculations which have the unsettling ring of plausibility." -- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
"A lively and engaging narrative of interagency bungling, infighting, malfeasance and nonfeasance, providing fresh and well-rounded portraits of well-known (and ought-to-be-well-known) agents -- drawing on scores of original and rewarding interviews." -- Richard Gid Powers, front page, Washington Post Book World.
"Riebling successfully re-creates the life-or-death atmosphere of the half-century of American confrontation with the Soviet Union. Mr. Riebling succeeds as well in persuading the reader that the FBI-CIA conflict was a more important piece of the cold war mosaic than heretofore noted by historians." -- Michael R. Beschloss, New York Times Book Review.
"Incisive.... Riebling shows how personalities shaped the struggle between the agencies, and how the struggle hampered intelligence. There's much here to stimulate discussion." -- Tampa Tribune.
"Riebling brings forth many new angles, thanks to his entree to a web of retired agents. A well organized, engaging account." -- Booklist.
"Serves up some juicy insights. The book is full of colorful and strong characters as well as entertaining description and lucid writing." -- Toledo Blade.
"Meticulously researched yet entertaining... Persuasively identifies Woodward and Bernstein's mysterious informant Deep Throat." -- San Francisco Chronicle.
"An exceptionally readable and coherent account, exhaustively sourced. Riebling meticulously but engagingly takes his readers through CIA's operations [and] presents a most intriguing hypothesis as to the identity of the long-silent Deep Throat. True Watergate buffs will be titillated. I'd put my money on the one the author suspects most." -- John Robbins, former CIA officer, The Palm Beach Post.
"Riebling's impressive documentation is chilling, sobering, and thought provoking." -- Virginia Quarterly Review.
"Riebling's writing is articulate and reflective. He explains the Angleton view so competently that it finally makes sense on its own terms." -- BookBase Online.
"In WEDGE, Mark Riebling's compelling and exhaustively researched history of the two intelligence giants, the depth of [the] inter-agency animus -- and its pernicious effects -- becomes distressingly clear. ... Riebling has avoided tarring the late FBI boss [J. Edgar Hoover] with the kind of sensationalist touches common to recent biographies. ... He is respectful of those he believes played the both wisely and well. If a heroic figure emerges from WEDGE it is the late James Jesus Angleton, the CIA's controversial director of counterintelligence for more than 20 years. Riebling partially rehabilitates Angleton from the drubbing he's taken in recent books such as David Wise's "Molehunt," in which he is depicted as disrupting his own agency in a futile, paranoid search for a nonexistent mole.... Riebling has crafted a thorough history of the fatally flawed CIA-FBI marriage through interviews with many of the key players and reams of internal documents, many of them recently declassified. WEDGE also is the beneficiary of extraordinary timing. Its releases coincides with a renewed furor in Washington over the CIA and its mandate.... WEDGE accords the current crisis an appropriate historical context." -- Scott Ladd, Newsday.
"Well researched, wittily written, full of good judgments. In a large and growing field, WEDGE will join the shelf of those few books which meet both standards of scholarship and expectations for insight and entertainment at a high level." -- Robin Winks, Professor of History, Yale University.

History fans will find not only detailed stories of engineering innovation and human courage, but also tales of desperate outlaws and heroic lawmen, star-crossed lovers and what has become known as the pioneer spirit.
As a fan of mysteries and police procedurals, I particularly enjoyed the train robbery stories, relating the efforts of frontier law enforcement to track down and capture the perpetrators. The love story of Robert Louis Stevenson and Fanny Osbourne was also excellent, giving real flavor to the human experience of riding the rails so long ago. McLaughlin's stories are particularly vivid when describing the difficulties posed by winter weather and treacherous mountain conditions to the safe passage of the trains, and the people who braved these dangerous trips, both passsengers and railroad crews.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Western history, as well as anyone who enjoys reading about the strength of the human spirit.
I highly recommend this exceptionally fun book. It is one of those that after you've digested the enjoyable stories, you will be pleasantly surprised by how much you have learned about a significant segment of our country's history.

A well rounded resource like this has been needed for parents for a long time, and Dr. Batshaw has done an remarkable job at fulfilling this need. Crucial topics are covered which are rarely addressed adequately, but are vital to children with special needs - for example, feeding, visual impairment, teeth and dental care.
As moderator of mailing lists on Adoption (from Vietnam) and Prematurity, it is rare that I can recommend a book for both groups, but this is one that meets the needs of many parents.
When Your Child Has a Disability covers four major areas - Getting the Diagnosis, Growing Up with a Disability, Developmental Disabilities, and a brief section called What the Future Holds. Each chapter in these sections is authored by an experienced practitioner in the field. They provide an concise overview for each subject, an explanation of the terminology, and a number of practical suggestions for your child.
The section on Growing Up with a Disability covers topics vital to parents of children with special needs, such as nutrition and feeding, dental care, and encouraging appropriate behavior. Specific disabilities are covered in the Developmental Disability section, including many disabilities linked to prematurity. Twelve developmental disabilities are addressed - cerebral palsy, hearing loss, autism, mental retardation, visual impairment, communication disorders, learning disorders, down syndrome, genetic syndromes, spina bifida, and epilepsy.
For parents of children who have special needs (or are "at risk" for developmental disabilities), When Your Child Has a Disability is invaluable. . No other book comes close for educated, practical coverage of developmental disabilities, and accompanying special needs, in children.
The book provides sound expert advice to all parents of a child with a disability - from choosing and visiting doctors to communicating with and feeding your child to dealing with common and not-so-common medical problems to understanding legal and educational rights and benefits. That advice will help parents to appropriately act on behalf of the child. While providing critical information on caring for your child, the authors let parents know that the parents are in charge because nobody knows our children better. The knowlegde from this book will empower parents to do what they believe is in the best interest of the child.
This book is a signifcant resource and a "must read" for any parent of a child with a disability. I suggest not only reading the book, but also keeping it close as a valuable reference tool.

Mr. McIntosh's work not only provides concise, principle centered ideas, but he writes the book in a readable and entertaining style.

No extensive whitewater library is complete without WhiteWater!
But I digress, the point of this meandering is that this book is great and fun to read. Interspersed within the more technical information are brief descriptions of whitewater rivers around the world. This is a format I really enjoy as it allows my A.D.D. afflicted brain a cunning diversion. I have done a bit of whitewater rafting and kayaking and find after reading this book a renewed feeling of desire for not only the boat but the feeling that a river rewards you with. The complete inundation of senses coupled with waves of adrenalin(and sometimes nausea) that a whitewater trip provides.
I am a practical person and a parent I may not be able to hit the river right away but atleast I can tuck myself away in my bathroom and escape to the rivers of my mind thanks to Mr. Blaine.

it covers over 20 of the major assassinations theories, not in great detail, but just an overview, like Cliff's Noes.
good book that covers the Warren Commission, Ford, the FBi and CIA, Cuba, Oswald and his life, just an overall good book.
if you want all the details and names, then get the actual JFK book like Crossfire by Jim Marrs.
if you a summary of the theories like Cliff's Notes, then get this book.
i'd like to say that the authors are very sympathics and they answered my questions as clearly as possible
I work in the computer support industry and have found the book great.
I can see the movie now --- Executive Producer, Joel Silver; lead stars, ETHAN ZOHN (YES, the newest winner of the latest "Survivor" show in Africa...I'm not kidding!)as ex-fighter pilot Dylan Brann/The Raven, JENNIFER GARNER (the hot chick from the "Alias" TV show) as Michelle Jensen, secret government agent and Dylan's ex-squeeze; HUGH JACKMAN, as Bo Hawkins, the ex-fighter jock & Dylan's best friend, etc. Hey, these are the key characters in the book and they're all good guys. Here's a major suggestion to Mr. Silver or any other Hollywood producers looking for a hot property, which I have a feeling this book will become in the future, don't cast any names bigger to play the bad guys, OK?!?!
It's great to see the movie industry start to take the wonderful legends of comic book history and start to make films about their fantastic tales the right way. God knows after the horror of Sept. 11, 2001, we all need some entertaining distractions. While I'm looking forward to the next X-Men pic, Blade 2, The Incredible Hulk and the upcoming Spider-Man movie, please make this story, in what looks to be a great new book series, a blockbuster movie that will remind all of us what a real superhero truly is. "Wings" is a timely story that's thrilling, filled with high-tech fun, and will even tug at your heart a little.
Most people don't realize that the great comic book heroes are a throwback to epic tales of ancient mythology. And the comics are true American literature that salutes those fantastic tales of good versus evil. Enjoy this book and SPREAD the WORD!!!
The characters are well developed, even the minor ones, and it's nice to see several subplots that intertwine nicely with the main part of the story. The main characters emotional and physical rollercoaster seems real as he goes through some incredible pain, loss, and suffering while trying to keep his sanity.
The story's pacing is good and the main backstory involving ancient Peru is interesting and informative. I just have one complaint ~ it's so well composed, I just wonder where the actually historical part ends and the fiction begins.
The action, while sometimes over the top, is top-notch, easy to follow, and fun to read. The last part of the story is in almost a different mood that the rest of the book and the ending, while not completely a surprise, ties up everything neatly and definetly leads to a sequel which I look forward to seeing. What else can I say but it's a thoroughly enjoyable book and deserves two thumbs up!

A good book to understand the evolution of wireless domain in terms of infrastructure, technology, devices and applications.
Very informative for any person wishing to understand the wireless world. Especially the first part, which deals with the evolution, providing technical details in an understandable format.
Sections on "How cell phones work?", "i-mode story" etc are very useful and informative.
The book is an ideal companion for sales and solution delivery personnel from the point of view of understanding concepts clearly.
Highly recommended for those who wish to dwell in the wireless domain or those who are already providing solutions in wireless space.
When recommending books I always ask myself if I would give the text away in my TrainingCity.com classes. "Wireless Internet Applications and Architecture" by Mark Beaulieu passes that test with flying colors.
Although the book is targeted at product developers it would be an excellent addition to any telecom or IT profession faced with the task of understanding the current wireless infrastructure and state of emerging XML based wireless applications.
Wireless Internet overviews the various technologies and architectures of what is becoming a necessity for corporate technical staffs. It tells how to devise and implement wireless Internet applications and reveals the latest wireless hardware and software trends. It describes business products, standards, and applications, and explains issues involved in integrating wireless capabilities. It covers phone-based systems, PDAs, the wireless office and evaluates the current state of wireless communications.
To a layperson, this book serves as a good guide to learn the language of the wireless Internet and offers an initiation of the amazing applications that are enabled when wireless telecommunications and the Internet work together.
To an experienced engineer, this book gives an overview of the technology enablers and new standards such as WAP, BLUETOOTH and the road map for Global wireless data.
To an industry person, this book acts as a resource center for existing applications on the Wireless Internet. It provides an exhaustive list of existing applications created on the Wireless Internet.
Overall a very well researched book, it covers a lot of ground. Clearly written by an expert, I strongly recommend this book as a developer's guide and reference.
